i flashed to the auxura rom last night from clean factory stock, havent had any issues thus far. started messing with gps settings (sensor aid, jm9 flash, etc) when i turned off the sensor aid option and hit the back button, the menu fc and then the phone went to the boot screen and stayed there. did a battery pull and then rebooted the phone and everything seemed normal until i realized that auto-rotate wont work for anything. tried switching it on/off, rebooting, etc and cannot get it to work for ANYTHING.
having searched and seeing that there is a similar thread in the galazy s19000 q/a it says that auto rotate sometimes simply stops working for no reason, issue is not reproducable, and the only way to fix it is to reset the phone. would that be the case for the captivate since they are similar and the auxura is based off of the 19000 rom?
anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot?
Try disabling and enabling the button for Auto Rotate in the tray.

yup, did that (sorry should of been specific that i did it in setting menu as well as the tray), made no difference. i suspect this situation is similar to the 19000 situation and have no choice but to re-flash again and see what happens.
couldnt figure out what caused the problem through the forums so i'm just gonna mark it up to it being a random 19000 thing and reflash. lets hope it doesnt happen again.

I have a Samsung S Captivate from At&T. I'm experiencing that same issue of not being able to auto rotate the user interface.
Settings are correct. But I think I have issues with my gyroscope and I'm not able to calibrate the compass either. Any ideas?
I found this interesting post to calibrate a messed up gyroscope, and it worked for my captivate.
You have to be rooted. Place the phone on a flat surface, then type the following in terminal:
Code:
adb shell
su
/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha
heY STOP DONT CALIBRATE ANYTHING!!!
the new axura rom LAUNCHER doesnt have auto rotate , only in the messenger and web browser. If you use launcher pro, you will have your auto rotate back just make sure the box is checked and you will be golden.
I too encounterd this issue so thats how I know
I had rooted my phone and fash rom Cezar's Basic include root by voodoo. But when i tick auto rotate in Setting>Dislay> Auto rotate then monitor auto rotate horizontal on message, browse and memo and I rotate phone to vertical -> Monitor not rotate to vertical-> Any one help me!
Running Cog 2.3b8 I magically lost auto-rotate. Checked the setting in the notification tray, Settings > Display and the settings for LauncherPro. Nothing worked, rebooting did nothing.
Running /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha in ADB SHELL as su worked. Problem solved and saved me from having to reflash the ROM.

Auto Rotate Stopped Working
Me too, my auto rotate has stopped working as of this morning.
I havn't installed anything for a few days, and it was working fine yesterday.
I havn't dropped it either.
Running Stock Optus Rom with Voodoo Lag Fix Beta 4.
Any one got any ideas, I am going to try a hard reset, followed by warranty.
Have you tried to turn it off then turn it on?
Maby a restart between it.

Hard Reset did the trick
Tried turning it on and off and re-starting between but nothing seemed to fix it.
Also un-installed any widgets that controlled it.
I ended up hard reseting, that fixed it. In the process of re-installing everything again.
Hopefully not going to experience this again. Thanks for your input DamianGto
I had that problem too, well wasn't really a problem once I got to know my JPK rom.
Scroll down the notification tab and turn on auto rotation. Dunno if 2.1 has AR in notification tab tho, maybe its just a 2.2 thing.

So you only had this feature disabled. The problem is that sometimes auto rotate feature stops working and all you can do is to do a factory reset.
before you do the factory reset you should really try the On/Off switch widgets
here is a good set of On/Off switches

Do you really think I reseted the phone without checking whether auto rotate is on or off?
I tried settings/sound & display/Orientation, I tried the auto rotate widgets, and I uninstalled the widgets. None of this helped, which is why I had to hard reset.
I use the auto rotate widgets every night, I turn auto rotate off while I am in bed so I can still see the screen in a portrait fashion. I actually use locale to turn on and off certain settings like screen brightness, sound volumes and auto rotate based on conditions like - between 10pm & 6am, on any day of the week, when the charger is plugged in activate night profile.
I have reinstalled most of the apps I was using previously, and the auto rotate is still functioning correctly.
It seems that the function stops working for no good reason; and what's worse, the problem is not reproducible i.e. exactly the same configuration works after resetting the phone.
Auto Rotation not working/solved
I've currently updated my galaxy s to xxjpy ,darkys rom 2.2.1 (Highly reccomended) , I had exactly the same issue with the rotation not working and put it down to the custom Rom , after a few days of trying to sort it out i finally gave up and did a hard reset using sgs tools, now sorted , i can only assume it was something i downloaded from the market that caused this , only downside is everything is deleted from the phone so MAKE A BACKUP, hope this helps
My screen rotation has stopped. It remains on portrait.
I'm guessing I need to exchange the phone.
Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Oh, I'm on the Froyo Beta 2.8.1 of Design Gears'. Been on it for a few days, so I doubt that has anything to do with it.
i hope you have tried pulling down the notifications, and enable auto rotation, or checked it out in the settings....! ! !

Thanks for the suggestiong, but yes, of course Including power off, pull battery reboot; look in several other programs that may fiddle wiht it.
Later, I did one-click back to orig ROM, and it still did it. Went to a 4 hour meeting and after that it works
What I'm afraid will happen now is it will work until my 30 days are up and quit again.
youre lucky that you were able to flash back! my phone did the same thing only when it was stuck in portrait mode I lost all ability to interface via usb... so I was stuck until android magicaly fixed itself today. My phone was stuck like that for 4 days.
Well, I'm back to no rotation, and Screeble is showing as Phone Idle.
I am beginning to think that the sensors on the phone are going out.

I went through the same thing with Assonance. Fixed by installing launcher pro, then recalibrate in display settings, then uninstall launcher pro. I used launcher pro because it has its own screen rotate setting that reset the phones. Give it a try.
Pretty much immediately after posting, I decided to reload my ROM. That fixed it. This happened immediately after doing some software upgrades from the market. Apparently software can screw it up. Or a botched upgrade.
Well, my rotation is broken once again. This is becoming a bit frustrating.
There were 6 apps that updated last night. I'm not sure why/how an app could break rotation. I can toggle it on and off, but the sensor is not working.
I guess I will once again restore to stock, rflash, etc, and see if it comes back. If its the hardware, I wish it would just quite once and for all, and I'd hvae the phone replaced.
This is gonna help so much but that sux

Hi guys!
Everytime i want to make a phone call or when I'm in a phone call I cant use the touch screen on the phone, it only stays completely black. I recently updated my phone from leaked V20a to CM 10.1 and thought that maybe the leaked version was causing the problem. But the problem continued on CM and it's getting really frustrating. I noticed that my radio haven changed after update and says "LGP880AT-00-V20A-EUR-XXX-MAR-04-2013, is this causing the issue?
Cheers!
Proximity sensor...Calibrate it and it should be ok!:good:

Got to hiden menu (3845#*880#). Go to: Device test, All auto test menu - Full, ALC / Proximity test. After presing calibrate try to set it to Default. This helped me (DEFAULT option).
Now it seems like i'm not even able to access the hidden menu. When I type in the code nothing happens and when I press the dialer I get "USSD code running" + Connection problem or invalid MMI code.

you can't access the hidden menu if you're not on LG firmware. :silly:
I managed to get into the hidden menu by restoring leaked V20A. The advice above did not work however. When I try to press calibrate I get "Proximity Cal fail: 1023". Anybody know what to do? :crying:
Same here. I guess I'll have to send it back... :'(

I am having similar issues, however, my device was not dropped nor was it flashed. The last thing I remember doing was turning the phone to landscape to watch a youtube video, then when exiting the video to select a new one it would not rotate back. I didnt think anything of it at first, but then when I couldnt rotate videos to full screen I became suspicious that there was something wrong. Checked other apps to see if they would rotate, no dice. I have checked the sensors with "Check My Android" and they are all working fine, however, the calibration is way out. I have also rest to factory settings, and the issue persists.

Is the auto-rotate icon enabled, or greyed out on the quick settings pulldown ?

Yep, it is there, I can toggle between on and off, I can also select it in the accessibility menu too.

now that you mention it, i also remember this happening after watching a youtube video... strange thing is, ive done everything - factory reset and its still an issue. im going to try and do another factory image instiall and start from scratch. ill post back
---also yes, i toggle between rotate and non-rotate and the issue is still present.
sadly after a factory image install, auto rotate is still not working
EDIT: TRIED AGAIN AND AUTO ROTATE IS WORKING... but now my cell service is not working. I'm chalking it up to a bad factory image download and trying yet again....
EDIT #2: did another factory image install and radio is working. and auto-rotate works... PHEW

I had a conversation, with Motorola support and they seem to think the only option is repair/replace. I will be speaking to a memeber of the aftercare sales team tomorrow, ill update tomorrow.
Hey I'm having a similar issue, I bought my nexus 6 in mexico no more than a month.. Today it slipped from my pants and felt screen down.. Had a few scratches but nothing to bad.. Well I haven't noticed that after the fall my auto rotate is not working.. Camera, videos, photos etc. Nothing auto rotates, the only thing I can see in landscape is YouTube because of the option to see it on landscape.. I don't know what to do, I have re booted the phone 3 times and nothing.. I'm thinking in installing the firmware or something like that but I need some help with it.. I don't know if someone can help me this???
Having both issues.. No auto-rotate and I've lost all cellular connectivity. Wifi works fine though. The heck is going on?
Has anyone else found a resolution to this?
All of a sudden mine decided to stop rotating earlier today and even though I can toggle it in the quick settings, nothing changes. I've since rebooted a couple of times but no luck so far. I'm on 5.0.1 by the way, non rooted, straight out of the box.
Edit: I've downloaded "Accelerometer Monitor" and confirmed that the accelerometer is responsive in Y,Z axis but the X axis was flat lining. I gave it a gentle slap onto the palm of my hand and all of a sudden the X axis jumped to life. It's as if the axis was stuck or something. It's responding now, though I have still had a few strange issues, like apps going to landscape when the phone was being held in portrait.
Has anyone else had problems with auto screen rotation, mine has twice now in 4 days started either getting stuck in landscape mode or would start rotating back and forth by itself,I fixed it for now by clearing cache, but curious if anyone else has had this issue.
I have the same problem on 910c variant, even factory reset does nothing, I hope it is not a faulty hardware
Ditto on my 910T3 TMo. Stock rooted. Auto screen rotate stopped working 2 days ago.
I have wiped cache and dalvik.
I have tested sensors with other apps (they work).
I have run self tests (dial *#0*#)
I disabled all Xposed modules
I tried 3rd party screen rotation app
None of these have resolved the problem.
Also tried wiping Dalvik and cache and reflashing the kernel.
That didn't fix the issue either.
the problem seems to happen when the phone is hot, because when I wake up In the morning I turn it on and doesn't have the problem
I have the same exact issue. I've replaced my phone 3 times because of it. BTW I'm on 910T.
Hopefully this new software update that just rolled out fixes this issue.
I also noticed when in the camera app, if i rotate the phone between portrait and landscape, the controls on the screen rotate appropriately.
So again, that verifies the sensors are working and it isn't a hardware issue for me.
Also tried using stock launcher, but no change.
Am about ready for a factory reset.
I've experienced this also but I thought/think it was a Nova launcher bug that seems to have corrected itself.
Since the recent update everything has been running fine. So far I haven't gotten the screen rotation issue!
It used to happen at least 2 times a day. I think it might just be a software based issue.
SM-N910T still on 5.0.1 stock having the same issues. It gets stuck in landscape, stays stuck in over landscape position.
I ended up doing a factory wipe and updating to the stock rooted DOK2 rom that just came out.
So far no issues and screen rotation is working (along with several other nuisance issues that went away).
Just as an update I lost screen rotation on DOK2 stock rooted ROM. However, I believe it may have been related to some debloat cleanup I was doing.
Under Ti Backup I searched for "facebook" and manually forced uninstall of the 4 "system" apps that came up.
I don't know what any of those would have to do with screen rotation, but one of them does.
I was not able to successfully restore those files via Ti Backup either, so ended up dirty flashing the same DOK2 zip file to restore them.
That fixed it. So rather than forcing uninstall of those files I just removed updates and disabled them via the android app manager.
So far so good.
