Has anyone else had problems with auto screen rotation, mine has twice now in 4 days started either getting stuck in landscape mode or would start rotating back and forth by itself,I fixed it for now by clearing cache, but curious if anyone else has had this issue.
I have the same problem on 910c variant, even factory reset does nothing, I hope it is not a faulty hardware
Ditto on my 910T3 TMo. Stock rooted. Auto screen rotate stopped working 2 days ago.
I have wiped cache and dalvik.
I have tested sensors with other apps (they work).
I have run self tests (dial *#0*#)
I disabled all Xposed modules
I tried 3rd party screen rotation app
None of these have resolved the problem.
Also tried wiping Dalvik and cache and reflashing the kernel.
That didn't fix the issue either.
the problem seems to happen when the phone is hot, because when I wake up In the morning I turn it on and doesn't have the problem
I have the same exact issue. I've replaced my phone 3 times because of it. BTW I'm on 910T.
Hopefully this new software update that just rolled out fixes this issue.
I also noticed when in the camera app, if i rotate the phone between portrait and landscape, the controls on the screen rotate appropriately.
So again, that verifies the sensors are working and it isn't a hardware issue for me.
Also tried using stock launcher, but no change.
Am about ready for a factory reset.
I've experienced this also but I thought/think it was a Nova launcher bug that seems to have corrected itself.
Since the recent update everything has been running fine. So far I haven't gotten the screen rotation issue!
It used to happen at least 2 times a day. I think it might just be a software based issue.
SM-N910T still on 5.0.1 stock having the same issues. It gets stuck in landscape, stays stuck in over landscape position.
I ended up doing a factory wipe and updating to the stock rooted DOK2 rom that just came out.
So far no issues and screen rotation is working (along with several other nuisance issues that went away).
Just as an update I lost screen rotation on DOK2 stock rooted ROM. However, I believe it may have been related to some debloat cleanup I was doing.
Under Ti Backup I searched for "facebook" and manually forced uninstall of the 4 "system" apps that came up.
I don't know what any of those would have to do with screen rotation, but one of them does.
I was not able to successfully restore those files via Ti Backup either, so ended up dirty flashing the same DOK2 zip file to restore them.
That fixed it. So rather than forcing uninstall of those files I just removed updates and disabled them via the android app manager.
So far so good.

Hi, the other day I noticed my auto rotate was not working so I went and checked my settings and auto rotate was switched on, so I loaded up asphalt and still won't rotate, does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong
The firmware is jm8 with a custom rom and the epic GPS fix
Thanks in advance

Auto Rotate Stopped Working
Me too, my auto rotate has stopped working as of this morning.
I havn't installed anything for a few days, and it was working fine yesterday.
I havn't dropped it either.
Running Stock Optus Rom with Voodoo Lag Fix Beta 4.
Any one got any ideas, I am going to try a hard reset, followed by warranty.
Have you tried to turn it off then turn it on?
Maby a restart between it.

Hard Reset did the trick
Tried turning it on and off and re-starting between but nothing seemed to fix it.
Also un-installed any widgets that controlled it.
I ended up hard reseting, that fixed it. In the process of re-installing everything again.
Hopefully not going to experience this again. Thanks for your input DamianGto
I had that problem too, well wasn't really a problem once I got to know my JPK rom.
Scroll down the notification tab and turn on auto rotation. Dunno if 2.1 has AR in notification tab tho, maybe its just a 2.2 thing.

So you only had this feature disabled. The problem is that sometimes auto rotate feature stops working and all you can do is to do a factory reset.
before you do the factory reset you should really try the On/Off switch widgets
here is a good set of On/Off switches

Do you really think I reseted the phone without checking whether auto rotate is on or off?
I tried settings/sound & display/Orientation, I tried the auto rotate widgets, and I uninstalled the widgets. None of this helped, which is why I had to hard reset.
I use the auto rotate widgets every night, I turn auto rotate off while I am in bed so I can still see the screen in a portrait fashion. I actually use locale to turn on and off certain settings like screen brightness, sound volumes and auto rotate based on conditions like - between 10pm & 6am, on any day of the week, when the charger is plugged in activate night profile.
I have reinstalled most of the apps I was using previously, and the auto rotate is still functioning correctly.
It seems that the function stops working for no good reason; and what's worse, the problem is not reproducible i.e. exactly the same configuration works after resetting the phone.
Auto Rotation not working/solved
I've currently updated my galaxy s to xxjpy ,darkys rom 2.2.1 (Highly reccomended) , I had exactly the same issue with the rotation not working and put it down to the custom Rom , after a few days of trying to sort it out i finally gave up and did a hard reset using sgs tools, now sorted , i can only assume it was something i downloaded from the market that caused this , only downside is everything is deleted from the phone so MAKE A BACKUP, hope this helps
Hey,
I have an HTC One black - stock os - UK unlocked version - after 4.2.2 update.
I've got a strange problem regarding the top of the touchscreen. when the phone is horizontal, the top bit (between the top bar to the first widget) is not working. the rest of the screen working fine. when I pick the device up, the screen is working fine 70% of the time. as a result, I cant open the notification bar and it thinks that I'm clicking or re-arranging my widgets.
It's weird because IT DOES work 60% of the time.
1. did any of you experienced any of this before?
2. What do you think it is? software or I have to replace the digitizer?
3. Is it just calibration problem? I tried to calibrate the device using the keyboard screen calibration and it didn't do anything.
Thanks!
Eran.

I
I just started experiencing this same problem today as well. I was on a Google Edition 4.3 Rom for about 2 days, Viper 3.2 I believe and everything was initially working as it should. Suddenly I began experiencing the non responsive status bar. I cleared data & cache, fixed permissions, and even tried a factory reset with no luck. I then reinstalled the Rom and the problem persisted. I then downloaded and installed black jelly Rom along with a complete wipe of the entire storage after transferring important data to my PC, but the status bar was still unresponsive and it appeared the top 1/4 inch of display had a digitizer issue. I tried to restore an older backup of Venom Rom running Sense and I still had no luck, until I went into the browser so that I could rotate into landscape to see if I could access it from this orientation (don't know why that didn't cross my mind sooner?) After I pulled the notification shade in landscape I left it down and rotated back into portrait mode and drew the shade back up slowly, following through with the gesture all the way to the top of the display. Then the functionality from portrait was restored! I believe this is a software bug of some sort, but I'm contemplating returning it to stock and relocking the bootloader to return it. I'm actually using the Tmobile variant and it's only about 30 days old. My insurance will cover a replacement for a faulty unit, but who knows if will happen with another? After a Google search I discovered this was an issue that surfaced with quite a few One X's as well, so I'm thinking it may be a bug that's consistent with some HTC hardware of a different variants? Any updates or insight would be appreciated.

I am having similar issues, however, my device was not dropped nor was it flashed. The last thing I remember doing was turning the phone to landscape to watch a youtube video, then when exiting the video to select a new one it would not rotate back. I didnt think anything of it at first, but then when I couldnt rotate videos to full screen I became suspicious that there was something wrong. Checked other apps to see if they would rotate, no dice. I have checked the sensors with "Check My Android" and they are all working fine, however, the calibration is way out. I have also rest to factory settings, and the issue persists.

Yep, it is there, I can toggle between on and off, I can also select it in the accessibility menu too.

now that you mention it, i also remember this happening after watching a youtube video... strange thing is, ive done everything - factory reset and its still an issue. im going to try and do another factory image instiall and start from scratch. ill post back
---also yes, i toggle between rotate and non-rotate and the issue is still present.
sadly after a factory image install, auto rotate is still not working
EDIT: TRIED AGAIN AND AUTO ROTATE IS WORKING... but now my cell service is not working. I'm chalking it up to a bad factory image download and trying yet again....
EDIT #2: did another factory image install and radio is working. and auto-rotate works... PHEW

I had a conversation, with Motorola support and they seem to think the only option is repair/replace. I will be speaking to a memeber of the aftercare sales team tomorrow, ill update tomorrow.
Hey I'm having a similar issue, I bought my nexus 6 in mexico no more than a month.. Today it slipped from my pants and felt screen down.. Had a few scratches but nothing to bad.. Well I haven't noticed that after the fall my auto rotate is not working.. Camera, videos, photos etc. Nothing auto rotates, the only thing I can see in landscape is YouTube because of the option to see it on landscape.. I don't know what to do, I have re booted the phone 3 times and nothing.. I'm thinking in installing the firmware or something like that but I need some help with it.. I don't know if someone can help me this???
Having both issues.. No auto-rotate and I've lost all cellular connectivity. Wifi works fine though. The heck is going on?
Has anyone else found a resolution to this?
All of a sudden mine decided to stop rotating earlier today and even though I can toggle it in the quick settings, nothing changes. I've since rebooted a couple of times but no luck so far. I'm on 5.0.1 by the way, non rooted, straight out of the box.
Edit: I've downloaded "Accelerometer Monitor" and confirmed that the accelerometer is responsive in Y,Z axis but the X axis was flat lining. I gave it a gentle slap onto the palm of my hand and all of a sudden the X axis jumped to life. It's as if the axis was stuck or something. It's responding now, though I have still had a few strange issues, like apps going to landscape when the phone was being held in portrait.
Hi,
I have small problem with my phone. After I replaced a battery, my phone started crashing when I opened some certain apps. After some time I figured that my phone crashes when app checks screen orientation. I went to service menu and tested some sensors. On compass and gyroscopes my phone crashed and restarted, while on accelerometer showed no data . I've tried resetting my phone on factory settings and reflashing stock ROM. Nothing of that helped.
Does anyone have any idea how can I fix this? Thanks.
I've got exactly same problem with you.
Did you got these issues before using the new battery?
Did using the old battery solves the problem?
this users also got the same problem:

*SOLVED*
Hi all,
Have my Galaxy S10 SM-G9730 Dual Sim (unrooted) for about 18months now and has never skipped a beat.... until the new One UI 3.0 update that I got a few days ago.
After a restart everything works fine then after 15min-2hrs I will lose auto rotate, screen brightness is also less responsive (proximity sensor seems to be ok). Toggling auto rotate/adaptive brightness on/off does nothing.
Same issue across all apps (Youtube, Camera, Messaging etc.)
Going to the *#0*# - SENSOR menu shows me that:
Accelerometer Sensor is responsive (x, y, z axis all change to reflect movement) but the "IMAGE TEST" doesn't rotate the image of the dog. Should it?
Gyroscope Sensor doesn't move at all, is it supposed to? "GYRO SELFTEST" shows a PASS.
I downloaded the app "Sensor Test" and most of the sensors give me the error:
"This sensor doesn't report any readings, seems you have error with sensor service in device firmware"
I have tried the following:
- Toggle auto rotate on/off.
- Restart phone (using power button - restart & using power & Vol down combo)
- Cleared cache from Bootloader menu.
- Settings - Apps - Reset app preferences.
- Factory reset (using both settings - Factory reset & using bootloader factory reset)
I have a feeling it is an app that isn't updated to run on One UI 3.0 but I have no way of finding the guilty app.
Called Samsung who were no help (try restart, try factory reset, send it to us but we will charge you as Samsung don't have international warranty , even though yes we agree that it was our update that probably caused it)
Seemed to be good for about 10 hours after the factory reset but came came again,
Anyone come across this and found a way out?
*edit* just checked after restart and Gyroscope Sensor shows values after restart (while auto rotate is working), This leads me to believe it is 100% the gyroscope at first which in time leads to the accelerometer also not working.
*edit x2* well I've just restarted my phone then went through every single app 1 by 1 (downloaded and bloatware) and checking for rotation after each app launch, that is: launch app, test rotation, close app, test rotation and do that 172 times!! I task killed maybe 5 times during the process..
after opening every app I still have auto rotation which leads me to believe its some system background process and not a 3rd party app issue. Damn..
Is there any way for me to monitor these? or monitor sensors stopping functioning?
*SOLVED* See post #6 below
I have same problem. After updating to one ui 3, the rotate sensor stops working after a while and only a reboot helps. Galaxy Note 10+ N9750 (snapdragon). Can't find fix yet
Same problem, autorotate feature is not working after software update (Samsung Galaxy S10 SM-G9730, One UI 3.0, Android 11)
Same thing here! If you read this please send a bug report to samsung we we can get their attention.
Didn't see anything on Reddit about it may be fixed on 3.1
Let's find out

Ok then, finally seem to have this sorted.
What I ended up doing was:
Downloading the latest firmware (the firmware that caused the problem) using frija.
I took a complete backup onto my laptop using Smart Switch.
I then flashed the firmware using Odin but again after a few hours sensors started to drop off again.
I then flashed the firmware again using Odin but this time I performed a nand erase while flashing.
Pushed my backup back onto my phone from my laptop using Smart Switch.
And hey presto!
This seems to have sorted it, I'm now well into day 2 and still working 100% which is the best it has been since the OTA firmware update.
Hopefully that will help others
My phone is doing this as well, I've got a US unlocked phone overseas as well. I followed your instructions and did the nand erase but after 2 days the sensors started messing up again.

It's the firmware..samsung is releasing buggy firmware..received 3.1 update yesterday... seems to have solved proximity and autorotate issue..smartview and NFC still not working for me.
So they force us into an update that breaks the phone and don't let us go back to the previous version of the software? That doesn't sound right.
Another marketing scam to get us on to the S21.
Same problem with S21 Ultra after Android 13. Rotate sensor flips 90degrees after some day or two of use. Now it was messenger that was active when the flip came.....
Any solutions apart from reflashing via 3rd party? That's quite a job to reset the phone.
Thanks!
