Time to vent some frustration here.
About a month ago I bought a Bell GT-I9000M off kijiji (after falling in love with it on a recent trip to Japan). I went through the flashing routines and settled on the doc roms. Somehow after some use/flashing I ended up killing it with what seems to be a corrupted internal sd card. I have no idea how that happened but it did. I can access download mode and flash with odin but I cant get the phone to boot. The phone boots past the samsung logo to a black screen and if I touch any of the buttons on the front they stay lit.
So last weekend I got the bright idea to buy another used phone, again from kijiji. This one was brand new, never used and seemed like a good option. I flashed the BUJP8_v9_Bell_Idan73_Special ROM and everything was fine up until yesterday. For some reason I could no longer send text messages. I called Rogers (my provider, phone was unlocked and working fine) for help and he had me do a few things including a battery pull and some sort of reset text message.
After the following reboot (after getting off the phone) my phone would no longer boot. I've since had the EXACT same issue as with the previous phone - phone sits at a black screen after the samsung logo and the buttons stay lit if I press one of them.
I can still flash this phone with odin and I can access the download/recovery screen but I cant do anything else.
Did I get 2 duds or did I do something to mess this phone up in someway? Is there anything I can do or do I have to send these things back to samsung some how?
Even now, I just reflashed with odin 1.7 to the I9000UGJK3 pda file and on the reboot after flash I get the 3e recovery screen with this error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (I/O error) E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD: your storage not prepared yet...
When I click format internal sd card it just repeats the same error...
What is going on with these phones?
Someone could confirm this, but I think bell could still services thoses with the serial number or IMEI (or such) You might want to contact them.
You will need Proof of Purchase to get repairs done via Bell / Dealer Stores.
Downgrade back to the BELL 2.1, boot into recovery and wipe all / internal SD. If that works, then upgrade back to 2.2. I had that problem when I upgraded to a corrupt 2.2 I downloaded online.

It makes absolutely no sense that you need proof of purchase for these phones.
I know you do, but its absolutely ridiculous. I could understand if the phone has been made and sold as an I9000M for more than a year, but they weren't and they haven't. Each have been manufactured this year. Either July or August, and sold.
So someone without a receipt should be given 1 year warranty based on the manufacturers date on the phone, no exceptions. Or if bell really wants to be a stickler about it, they can just say that phones without a receipt will only be warrantied up until July or August 2011, the one year anniversary of these phones being sold.
I know other corporations, including my BBQ manufacturer, did not need proof of purchase for a warranty claim. They simply asked me for my serial number, and could only give me warranty based on the manufacturers date. I purchased my BBQ much after the manufacturers date, but due to no proof of that, they still provided me the warranty because my actual BBQ didn't even exist prior to the Serial number. So they couldn't dispute it was still under warranty.
I'm sure if you yelled loud enough, they'll warranty it. They will have no leg to stand on. The phone is not stolen, wasn't reported stolen, has a valid IMEI and all of that.
How do they know its not stolen. They don't.

Absolutely they do. They have a list of blacklisted IMEI/ESN's. If that IMEI is on the list, not only will they not activate it, they will not warranty it, and they will not even return the phone back to you.
What they do exactly is tell you to wait while they go to the 'back' to complete the transaction, then call the police as you wait.
Activating a stolen phone is like trying to use a fraudulant/stolen credit card. Same thing. And same process.
If you're brave enough to explain your story to the police. Then go ahead and wait.
If the phone is an I9000M, then the phone was not brought from overseas. Its specific to Canada. The IMEI number will reflect that regardless of what ROM you may have installed on it.

I think it was done by some users who bought the device to work on another network, I'd advise to try it first, get into a bell store and be real polite/nice with the clerk, he/she will most likely help you!
I'm going to bell tonight either way. I'm fed up. One phone maybe, but two phones dieing doesn't make any sense to me at all.
This is getting repaired and then going up for sale. I'm not going to take my chances on a third/repaired phone.
I don't know why everyone blames Bell for warranty work. Samsung should be the one people go to if their phone needs repair and was NOT purchased from Bell.
I'm assuming the OP purchased his phones from kijiji because he's using the phone for another provider but Bell. So tell me why Bell should service the phone or give them a replacement?
You know if you don't have a receipt and genuinely bought the phone from Bell, they will honor it because you have a contract with Bell and that's the proof you need. They have all the info regarding your phone when you bought it.

We "People" make no sense? Well let me boil it down for you...
Bell is not on the hook for any warranty repair. Samsung is. However Bell, at least in Ontario is the ONLY authorized cell provider licensed by Samsung to purchase the phone at or for. So if you buy it at Best Buy, Future Shop, or any other cellular place without contract, they are NOT authorized to activate that non-contract phone with any other cell provider.
So with that being said. Those phones that Best Buy and Future Shop and those other companies get are obtained through the same source Bell gets their stock from. Why? Because that is the person that tells bell the phone is theirs.
So no matter where they get the phone from, there is one person, or a group of people at Samsung telling Bell another phone has been sold.
So why is Bell a good place to go to? Try phoning Samsung to get warranty work done without the assistance of Bell or the place you bought it at. They won't do it. Why? Because its a branded phone and they don't have the same system Bell does when it comes to tracking stolen goods.
Think about it. Why would anyone have to go to Bell at all? Why wouldn't Samsung just do all the warranty work themselves absolving Bell of any post-relations with their clients? Simple. Because you bring it in, they check the serial numbers against a flagged database only they, and their point-of-sale partners have. The same list that is shared with other providers to track stolen equipment.
So Samsung won't do the repair straight out, unless you buy the phone directly from them. And to that, I don't even think they sell the phone in Canada without the assistance of a provider. They do however in other countries from what I understand.
So making this extremely long story short. Samsung is on the hook for the cost of repair. Not bell. So tell me why bell can't be the intermediary for a person that didn't buy it there? It costs them nothing and improves relations with the general public.
Make sense now? Clear as mud? Didn't think so.
EDIT: And no one said anything about Bell giving them a replacement. They only do that as a courtesy to THEIR customers if need be or if Samsung says there's no other choice.. Again, samsung is on the hook for the replacement of any I9000M phone. Whether Bells or Not. If Bell gives their customer a replacement and Samsung said no, that is the only way Bell would have to pocket anything.
But for this purpose, I only spoke of warranty repair, not replacement. But again, thats up to Samsungs discretion based on what FutureTel, the only repair centre for them, tells them.
LAST EDIT: It is in the best interest of any person out there looking for warranty work to ensure you go to a Bell CORPORATE store and not a franchised store. I confirmed yesterday (EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A CONTRACT WITH BELL) that franchised stores can make up their own rules and do not have to accept the repair (Like they didn't mine) because I didn't buy it from that franchise. The owner of that store says the Corporate stores will take anything regardless of where it was purchased.
Oh and I had my contract, and my receipt for the purchase with me too.. still wouldn't take it. HMMMM.
You took a chance purchasing your phone off Kijjii, you knew that chance since you already had one dead SG. All the money spent on Kijjii on 2 phones and you could of most likly bought the phone new and would of had a receipt and a waranty ;p.

That's great news for everyone that bought used phones. Hopefully it's not one of those made up rules from that Franchise owner you speak of.
I never said you can return your phone to any Franchise store. That's common knowledge (to me and my friends at least) that you have to return to the store you bought it from or a corporate store. That's nothing new.
You're not going to find a lot of businesses that will honor warranty on a product that was not purchased from them. I'm talking products bought from kijiji or craigslist etc (like the OP)... NOT Best Buy or Future Shop. I'd be surprised to see if Bell Corp would accept a phone bought from kijiji especially if they are not Bell customers.

Condescending comments always hit a nerve. Thats nothing new, so you can LOL all you want. There are better ways to try and get your point across than speaking down to us "people".
At any rate...
My whole point is, it shouldn't matter where you bought it from, its impossible for any of these phones to be beyond the 1 year manufactured date. And since all I9000M's come with Bell's bloated firmware, they should warranty them regardless of where you bought them from, as it doesn't cost them a penny. Any company that I have dealt with in the past where a receipt was missing honoured the warranty based on a manufacturers date.
This is not a Samsung Galaxy S we are speaking of here. Its a BELL Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. And no I9000M out there has a different distinction. Or at least none with Bell listed IMEI's.
Buying this from Kijiji is still a risk though.. Samsung could always deny your warranty claim depending on what caused the error in the first place. But the denial of warranty claim should happen at the repair service level, not at a Bell store.

Hi guys
A month ago I had the OTA update problem (the 7mb or so update which broke the phone) and the phone wouldn't turn on properly. The samsung logo was glowing and that's it. I didn't have time back then and just was using another phone. Yesterday, I tried to fix it since I saw that some people fixed it on forums. But unfortunately it did not show any signs of life even though I charged it and tried pressing every button configuration.
1) I wonder if I can still fix this by myself,
if not 2) Do you think services in the states would help me with this given that I haven't bought this device from any US retailer like T-Mobile or AT&T.

Actually I was going to use it but I can't get to the recovery or download menus since the phone does not respond at all. It looks like it's hard-bricked. There is no sign of life at all.
Do you guys think that when there's no sign of life at all it's related to a problem in the motherboard?

1.) Don't aggravate the problem and give yourself some slack...
2.) Of course why would they not? you have an unlock version right? you can send that phone for a repair but bear in mind shipping and handling would be taken care of by the shipper itself, and read the repair policies thoroughly. There are a lot of after sale services in many counties and states here in the U.S. But I am not in the best position to give you where and what company I would recommend to you, since that would be tantamount to promoting the service of that company already. Just look for it or google it. I'm sure you'll find a decent one.

Why are you giving this misinformation? Call Samsung USA and they will tell you just like they told me that this phone was not intented to be sold in US and thus Samsung USA will not repair it!!! If you want to, you have to send the phone to the Samsung repair center in the country where the phone was purchased or better intended to be sold.Samsung USA will not help you at all after you give them IMEI number of the phone. This is true story, happened to me with Galaxy S2, bought via Expansys USA intended to be sold in England.

I bought the phone from http://www.technotradinghouse.com earlier this year ( so the manufacturer warranty has not run out)
and I also have the CPS warranty...
What avenues do I have for service ?
I understand the phones have a "limited international warranty" and one can always say that they bought the phone when living in another country...

UPDATE:
Called the USA number listed on the Samsung Global website for international warranty.
They told me to send the device to the service center in Hong Kong, as "the device is manufactured in china"
Seriously Samsung still believes US costumers who buy "superior" devices like the N7000 against the "inferior" SGS717 don't
have any knowledge of say the "world map" or where the devices are manufactured these days...
I am all for Samsung, because they have a unlocked bootloder, and good devices in general (in the international marker) otherwise I would have easily switched
to Motorola... but thanks to the US cell-phone-provider dictatorship we will still have the same problems... The downsides of being in a
capitalist country...
The work around for this is to buy the international device from a registered dealer in Mexico, and then avail of the warranty from Samsung Mexico, which
wont be as expensive as sending the device over to "China", I wish some ingenious Mexico entrepreneur setups a ONLINE shop for selling phones to the US
there ain't any... The N7000 is available in Mexico... They don't sell it with a free-AK47, otherwise I would have dared crossing the border here...

Hi folks!
I recently posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46213830 that shows how I unexpectedly bricked my phone. The phone has never been rooted/unlocked and was running a stock ROM when it happened. I was trying to flash an official ROM but flashed the wrong one apparently. So the question is, what's next?
I have two options as I see it:
1) Take the phone to AT&T and claim warranty; as it's an AT&T phone. I see two complications with this approach. I bought the phone used from some guy off of craigslist for $200 (a great price I think). In any case, when I bought the phone I activated the phone on the account of my mom to make sure AT&T knew the phone as mine and to make sure it was an honestly obtained phone (not stolen; or the person defaulted payments or something). The phone was on AT&T for a day and then I switched the plan back to my mom's old phone from the 80s.
First complication: So AT&T has seen this IMEI/Serial # before associated with my mom's account. I am not sure if that's enough to get a warranty swap.
Second complication: I forgot. Haha. Oh no I didn't. Well because the phone wasn't listed as active as of the time that the warranty service is being requested.
Third: I didn't originally buy the phone at AT&T, not sure if the warranty is thru device or the person.
2) Send phone to HTC warranty service.
First complication: I'm not sure since I was trying to flash the ROM whether they will deny warranty coverage. I might have wiped the bootloader I have no idea; In any case never rooted/completely stock.
What would you do?

I've tried unlocking all but after too many hours of reading,searches,downloads,installs than virus removals and rooting and money. Used my credit card 3 times for sim unlock at online companies. All three screwed me but got money back from one. I think cause they are Canadian phones.
They gave me these reasons and a few more. Than kept my money.
The phone is blacklisted by the provider or reported lost or stolen
It is now illegal within the USA to unlock Phones purchased after January 26th 2013, if your phone was purchased after this date it cannot be unlocked.Although this model is generally un-lockable, there are instances where codes cannot be generated.
The IMEI number submitted was incorrect.
I check on these and none pertain to these phones n the imei # was correct.
In Canada its Not illegal here to unlock if you own the phone out-rite.
I'm looking for an honest place online that sells the imei or just the sim unlock codes for a good price. The average price from the networks like rogers
here is $50 and that's half of the phones worth. I'm retired can't afford that.
Right now I'm trying to unlock my Samsung galaxy S3 mini.
Anyone know a $5 to $10 site?

Hey Joeroni I understand why you don't want to pay $50 to unlock a $100 phone.
But we can't really help with any recommendations cause we might offend someone
here that sells codes or software.Even though you have been ripped off from
some online companies.There are many ways here to unlock your phone but we
understand that one click root n unlock is much harder than stated and many
have bricked their phones.Which you can't afford to do.Like when you one click
root n unlock your Canadian Huawei Ascend Y300-0151.Its rooted n modem unlocked
but still locked to Bell.So learn roms now. Besides there are so many softwares
for Samsung that don't do your Canadian Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, Canadian Model
SM-G730W8. Which you found out after hours n hours of reading n trying. We also
don't like answering people that are not geniuses already at this stuff. Not
even suggesting on the easiest software that you can buy credits that definitly
works on your Canadian phones.
So rather than learning to do your own phones here. Why don't you just quit
trying and pay the $40 and go to the corner shop n have them do it.Them shops
are popping up all over the place. Sound right?

And like I said they are not stolen or blacklisted. They are difficult because they are Canadian and software little diff. They are mine. You see while some sell software others codes n so fourth. Its all about money now. This site used to help people now it seems like all retail just want money now or THEY GET IGNORANT if your a newbie and not a genius at roms n stuff. Or I guess putting out money to the site. To have to pay half of what the phones are worth just to unlock them is wrong. Most learned how to do it from this site for years. Now I get they must be stolen.
If the phones in question are tied by contract to a particular service provider they are not owned by you. If you owned the phones legally and they are not tied by any contract unlocking would be simply achieved by calling the service provider to release the handset. If you wish to circumvent the law or break a phones link to a contract illegally why would you ask here. Such activities are expressly prohibited by this site and abusing members for not providing you with the tools to do this is disgraceful.
Listen here I keep telling you trouble maker that they are good. I know about all that stuff. Two I got after 2 year contract n went with other company . Then two bought out rite. I've already called the companies that were my providers from each phone. Asked how much to unlock them. That was my first move. Rogers checked and my cell was ok not blacklisted with them and wanted $50 plus 15% tax . I thought that was too much cause by law they have to provide an unlock to me. They said ya for a price $50.00 It's the same at the other major providers like bell fido rogers that i tried. All phones are ok to unlock but i must pay too much. So I try some online imei codes but get ripped off n now they have my credit card numbers. Damn. So I do searches n read n check out every software figuring ill do myself and pay for credits. but most software i checked does the samsung galaxy S3 mini but not the Canadian SM-G730W8 model. Same with my ol Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a. Different than regular x10. So I come here ask for few links or help. I get a senior member giving me BS. Your a trouble maker themountig and I don't need your help or accusations. Now once again people they have been checked and are all ok.
I checked the IMEI for your S3 and it has not been blacklisted, so I believe you when you say you own it outright. I also went ahead and removed your IMEI numbers from this thread because unscrupulous people will transfer them to devices that have been blacklisted so that those devices can work again. This activity is illegal in most places that support IMEI blacklisting and typically any discussion about how to change your IMEI is removed from xda.
In this case, I think why you really want is to SIM unlock your device. I am not sure what the laws are in Canada, and depending on where you live the carrier may or may not be required to provide you with an unlock code for free. Pretty much everywhere they have to do it if you own the phone. Typically SIM unlocking your device is not something that is supported very much on xda...rooting, unlocking the bootloader, yeah that gets done a lot around here.
You may want to bring up the issue with whomever you want as your new provider. They may be able to help you with Rogers or they may have another solution for you. Vodafone took care of an issue with my old provider when I switched to them. It is probably best to stay away from the online SIM unlocking services because it is really easy to get ripped off.

Thank you justmpm. I did not think about why people would want my old imei numbers. I did contact the company and yes they have to open it but at their price. That $50 is half of what I can buy the same phone unlocked online. My kids friends are techs at HP (bunch of crazy kids) and will unlock my phone this weekend if need be. They are also checking out these websites that ripped me off. One site is already down. unlock-freedom.cm They say they have a surprise for the other one this weekend. These companies must be making millions ripping people off. Well couple days ago I found another site advertising right here at my post. So now I'm waiting on code-unlock-shop that had a decent price and advertises doing Canadian cells. We will see. Its my last try.

I want to be clear. I am not accusing you of anything underhand it's just that an IMEI is meant to be attached to one cellphone. People who sell them are outside the law and therefore have no morals which would prevent them from ripping you off. The moderator removed your numbers from your post to protect you. Where do you think IMEI sellers get the numbers they sell as they can't be obtained legally or sold honestly. Sim unlocking is accepted practice IMEI selling is not. Therefore your request to be pointed to an honest seller is not possible. I should have simply pointed out to you that you were asking for the wrong thing, therefore I apologise for giving the wrong impression. Its legal here in Canada to unlock your phone if you own it. But its expensive to have someone do it for you. SO Ive tried here and rooted both Huawei Ascend and the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2e but most software don't do the Canadian models. So thats when I tried the easy number unlock. Getting ripped off though. Didnt know that was illegal cause they advertise everywhere. Even in my evening newspaper. Im finding this out the hard way. I seen another site that does Canadian phones. Right here at this post. htp://www.code-unlock-shop.cm . Advertising right here but Ripping people off? Been 4 or 5 days now and still haven't heard from them. Another $15. Another scam that has my visa numbers. Damn it. I'd be ahead of the game if I stayed off this site and buy a new unlocked cell phone and hell with playing with cell phones. Well all my kids tech buddies are dropping in this weekend to check on these sites that ripped me off. Ill let them little crazies deal with them. Problem solved I'm buying a new phone that I can't afford.

Hey hows everyone? I bought a phone about 2 months ago, it was working fine last night. When i woked up it dndt had service I called t mobile from my mothers phone and they said that the phone has been blocked or blacklisted. I think if im not wrong there is a way to fix this. Anyone please?
Well if the phone had been blacklisted BY T-MOBILE I could only assume you can't get service on that phone assuming it's something they've done on their end... I may be wrong but if a carrier is blacklisting your device and thus you are no longer getting service it is something being done on their end to block your service.
Same thing happened to me. Bought a second hand Nexus 4, used it for 3 months, then it stops. It was on a delinquent T-Mobile plan. I called them up & they said all I could due was contact the original owner. Sorry for your luck. That is what I hate about t-mobile.
I'm pretty sure you can use the phone on AT&T, but this why it's important to check the imei with the carrier before buying a used phone. You bought a stolen phone, either stolen from T-Mobile or a person and all the carriers respond to that by blacklisting the device. There's nothing to be done though beyond appealing to the original owner, even if you offer to pay what the other person owes.
Unfortunately, checking the imei isn't enough. The Nexus I had had a clean imei. The original owner quit paying on the phone 3 months later. It is a problem with T-Mobiles device payment plan. All other carriers require a phone to be fully payed off before removing from your account, except T-Mobile.
If you are technically inclined you could "swap" an imei from another phone but this practice can be illegal in many many ways, there are legal ways to do it but you have to be careful. Otherwise the blacklist is now a collaboration between the major cell carriers in the US aka the big 4, so it is not likely your phone will work on any carrier in the states. Probably the best you can hope hope for is to flip it to someone at a discount who wants it as a wifi only device or to someone who can use it for parts, or you could lie like the other guy did and not tell someone its blacklisted, although this too is immoral and possibly illegal.
just go on ebay, there's a few people you can pay on there to remove the blacklist.

Today my hardware buttons on my S8 stopped working completely. I called Tmobile and there solution was for me to go to Samsung at Best buy and flash the OS system. When I expressed that this would not probably work as I just did a fresh reset they reluctantly offered a warranty exchange. I believe that either Samsung or Tmobile are now trying to get away from warranty replacements which cause me to ask why have insurance. Also apparently Tmobile has changed its JOD program again and will not allow you to jump to the same device anymore regardless of color.
Anyone else have this issue?
??? So fif you buy the phone through tmobile directly or through best buy? If through tmobile they shouldnt have tomd ypu to go to bestbuy . You had a defective phone and they need tonhonor the warranty replacement. Additionally theres no reason you should worry aboutusing a Jump in a situation like this

I have never had that. When ever I called or went to T-Mobile store with a hardware failure, they had the option for exchange, but for a refurbished device. You might as well go to best buy and see what they say, but in any case you have the right to go through T-Mobile if device is under warranty and was purchased through them.
Can’t buy a T-Mobile branded phone at Best Buy. It’s the only carrier they won’t work with, nor sell. I was never clear why.....

They had T-Mobile phones in the store, but some years ago Best Buy stopped selling them.

I don't remember, but I think at the time(~2011?) when T-Mobile phones were offered in Best Buy stores, the carrier didn't sell iPhone yet and possibility that T-Mobile phones/services were not selling well compared to other carriers. That could be the reason Best Buy and/or T-Mobile decided not to anymore.
