Ok this is a modified Mms.apk with 5mb send/receive limit and also 2560x1920 picture resolution send/receive. I hated being sent high res pics and only being able to save them at 640x480...
you need to go into the Mms settings and under "Custom User-Agent" select "Custom" then enter any name you want for the custom user agent... You might need to restart the messaging app, but I tested it and was able to save at full 2560x1920 ...
I'm going to post the modded Mms as an update.zip to flash with clockwordmod.
It's only been tested on froyo.
you might need to clear messaging data...
settings>applications>manage applications>All>messaging>clear data
let me know if it works for you...
Sorry for the noobness but how do I get to the mms settings? Im using the VIPER froyo rom.

make sure it flashed correctly...
make sure you are in the all threads screen in the messaging app. then hit the menu soft key and go into settings. you need to scroll down, it's towards the bottom... in fact if you scroll all the way down in the settings menu the "custom user-agent" settings will be in the top of the screen...
Hope this helps...

did you clear data and change the custom user-agent settings?
also try flashing it again or use the sdx stock app remover to push it and replace the current Mms.apk.

I just noticed that my phone doesn't vibrate and play the notification tone on sms with this mms.apk.
I checked the vibrate always option in the settings.
Can someone else with this mms mod please chime in? I am wondering if this is the culprit.
Just you man.

Hey all, just giving you the heads up that I am a n00b when it comes to android, however I think I have read as much as I can on this issue and can't quite find what I am looking for, so.. time to ask you guys!
When I was using the stock (2.1) firmware that came with my Galaxy S, the stock Messaging application had a button for 'Smilies' which I could use to quickly add a in a text message.( or others if I long pressed the keyboard button)
I have recently flashed the the Doc_Kalpik Froyo JP6/JPM V6 ROM.
Now when I use the 'stock' Messaging application the 'Smilies' button has been replaced by a 'carriage return' key, which don't get me wrong isn't all that bad, but I am wondering how I can change it.
I am using Swype, but from what I understand this isn't necessarily a 'keyboard thing' or a 'Rom/firmware' thing as much as it is a 'Messaging application' thing.
Apparently there is a good messaging app (Handcent) that allows me to change some of the keys on the keyboard, but I would like to try to use the stock Messaging app if possible.
I can still access the smiley menu through the 'settings' key while typing a message, but I just wan't to know if I am able to toggle this keys functionality without requiring a new keyboard/messaging app.
Thanks in advance.
I guess no one knows what I am talking about?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but is there an app to replace the in-call app? I think it's rather ugly and it's the last thing I need to replace to get my phone looking perfect.
Thanks.

I already use GO Dialer, but when I hit call it ask to "dial out" and goes to the default android (in-call?) app. Thanks for the suggestion though

Ever since the Captivate (and other Galaxy S phones? not too sure) got updated to froyo the option for "Vibrate on Notification" has been gone. Is it possible to put that option back into the newer MMS.apks? I used to use the "Vibrate Tools" app from the market to use my own vibrate patterns but since that option has been gone the pattern mixes up with the TouchWiz messaging app pattern.
I believe the aosp mms has it, cause I'm using samsung's right now, and it doesn't vibrate. But samsung can easily delete selected texts

Indeed it does but I liked using the stock TW version. So I was wondering if it was possible to do that on it..

You might just have to ask the app developer if he can look into it. Otherwise not sure.

Here is the MMS APK that has material design, yes it has quick reply.
I have pulled this APK from Euphoria ROM for my own use, but I thought some of you may wish to use it.

Yea but this is XDA. It's way to easy to install or update an app via the Play Store. XDA-style, we unlock the bootloader, install the new ROM, rip the apk of the app, then host it on a filesharing service. :highfive:

This is not the same app, the one you linked is the Google Messenger application, what I have posted is the AOSP MMS APK. This is the MMS apk you all are familiar with from CyanogenMod, but with a material design like the new Google Messenger app.
Was this actually updated with material on aosp or did someone customize it.
Thanks for the app link. It's so much better than the Google messenger. I couldn't stand not having the enter key and all the random colors for people.
Thanks for the apk, I have an issue. After I install and set as default messenger app I get a "wrong APN" popup on the screen that won't clear. I'm on Sprint, any ideas?

hmm. well this one works on nonrooted phone. just the apn issue. once i pull out my sim card, the apn setting comes back, but disappears when the sim card is inserted.
I need to figure something out. The stock messenger sucks badly.

Try the following:
Set hangouts as default messaging app -> open hangouts settings -> change MMS apn to something other than what is selected by default -> change default messaging app back to original.

I don't believe you can. You can turn off the stock messaging app but if you use a variety of messaging app then it will ask you which one you want to use and ask you if you want to use one always or just once. That is normal.
