Just got my Captivate and I'm enjoying learning its features. The volume is not loud enough to suit me, but I guess I can learn to live with that...
One thing that I'd like to resolve is this:
All of my entries in Contacts work fine, except for one. The issue here is that even though I've entered the 10-digit phone # for that entry when I created it, when I try to use Messaging to that person, the top of that screens only shows their name and their *seven*-digit phone number when I message them. Consequently, as soon as I attempt to send them a message, I get the error about not having a 10-digit phone # properly configured.
I've tried deleting that Contact and reentering it. Have tried setting up a different Contact and then editing. Have tried taking out the external SD card. Still getting this issue. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Which type of contact is it, I.E. Phone, SIM, Facebook, Gmail, etc.
I've tried storing the Contact to both SIM and Phone. Same error results in either case.

Interesting problem this, it seems to have just started to happen out of the blue a few days ago.
The problem, in a nutshell, is that whatever I try to do, be it recreate the entries in the Address Book, create a duplicate entry with the same name, use the O2 Plus feature which lets you save a contact to your address book and make a new entry like that... Whatever I do, whenever I receive a new text message, the person's name isn't shown as the sender, just their mobile number in international format.
Even if I have that contact in my phone already, with their number in the same format as is shown on the text message (+447...), their name doesn't show at all. It's really starting to annoy me, as I've not added or removed anything to my XDA and yet this problem isn't going away.
Argh! Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong? I might ring O2's oddly-named Data Support and quiz them about this tomorrow, too...
Cheers again everyone,
Christopher
When you search the forum for "CallerID" you'll find a few people asking about the same problem, mainly when receiving calls however not SMS' and some suggestions.
Do you have photos attached to your contacts? I'd try reinstalling the CallerID_Alpine_... from your Extended_Rom, if all fails it might be easiest to restore a backup (if you got one that is).

I did some further testing today, borrowed a mate's phone and rang mine... Bizarre, the first time my phone was rung, it would take approx. 30 seconds for the name of the caller to show, the number showed up fine though. Subsequent dials would result in the name showing up almost instantly (as usual)...
.... Veeeeeeery odd. I'll just dash off and try reinstalling this CallerID cab...
I woudl like to find an application that woudl allow me to click and dial any number like a Blackberry. That is, from an email, calendar invite, etc.
Same thing then for conference pass codes.
Anyone know of such an app for WIndows Mobile 6.1 devices?
Thanks
You can achieve this most of the time just by pressing call-hardkey if you are somewhere close to a number
I find this rarely works.
There is a setting for recognizing numbers
I want to say it is in the phone options, but I'm not sure. (and dont have my phone with me) but I do remember a checkbox to select for making phone numbers callable (is that a word?) from within sms, emails, etc.
I have looked. I have WinMo 6.1 and there are no options for this.
I wonder if it has to do with formatting?
I looked around and couldn't find the setting either, sorry. I might have been thinking of another device, and I should have checked before posting.
I also have 6.1, and at least in emails and SMS, the phone automatically recognizes telephone numbers and email addresses. tapping on a tel number gives the options of calling, sending a text, or saving to contacts. Tapping an email opens a new message to that address. Having members here from all over the globe made me wonder if country codes outside the US might mess up that functionality. I tried emailing myself some numbers, and when I included country codes, it didn't recoginze the number anymore. I don't know if this helps you or not, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Possibly someone here from outside of the US can tell us if it works for them.
Hey
I recently bought a HTC TD2. I have one major problem though. When someone calls/sends a sms the phone only displays the number not the name, even though the contacts are saved to the phone.
It happens with at least 7 different contacts.
(I've searched but can't find a solution that has actually been successful)
Could anyone provide some assistance?
Thank you
im having the same issue on my compact V. The numbers are stored in the SIM and in the contacts but it still fails to recognise.
Forget it man, I have the same problem and did everything possible to solve but couldn't. I changed the caller ID match values, the contacts memory, contacts format, and deleted the contact and recreated it again with no hope....now I'm waiting the technical support of HTC
Same issue here... Hard reset solved problem...
I'm having same issue for some of my contacts.
Yes hard reset and add the contact one-by-one solved the problem, but it happened again when I restored all the contact lists from my backup, even the backup was created (I think) before this problem happened.
So maybe something with the list of my contact, either they were not saved in the same format or they were inconsistently saved with only <firstname>, only <lastname> or <firstname lastname>.
Still investigating.... I've tried to increase my registry key "CallIDMatch" from 8 to 12 and will see...
Had the same issue. HTC tech support didn't know how to fix this, so the last resort was hard reset... and it fixed it.
Try one of two things -
(a) Check if you have multiple entries, I had discovered that multiple entries (of numbers and not names) had caused this before;
(b) Check to see if the mobile number is stored under "Mobile" and not some other entry. It does appear that entering the mobile number and storing it under "Work", for example, might cause this.
I thought this would fix itself over time, but it hasn't.
When I text, if I start typing in the name of the person, the HTC Diamond starts to suggest names after two letters. I really like this feature.
Sometime this summer, this stoped working for my wife's name (and you can imagine that a lot of texts go to her!). There were two contacts entries for her, I deleted one and updated the other. Her contact information is updated with ActiveSync correctly. But when I type the letters of her first name, it brings up similar names, but NOT hers.
How can I restore this to the way it was working without a hard reset?
Thanks.
I tried deleting her contact completely, syncing, adding her contact back in, syncing. Then went to text and typed in her name but is was not part of the autocomplete choices.
What is going on; is there a limit to the number of autocomplete names? Are all my new contacts being turncated out? (I have 1325 contacts).
Thanks in advance for any and all assitance.
So earlier today I was attempting to grab an online photo of someone to associate with a contact so I don't accidentally reject the call (I tend to just let people I don't know go to voice mail). So I looked up the number with Firefox/duckduckgo, found the photo I wanted, did a press/hold and the menu pops up. Select 'Set image as' and then selected Contacts.
Contacts then crashes (I tried it twice, with the same result, except the second time it asked to close app or send feedback, vs restart app and send feedback.)
So is this a bug? Or is it me thinking the phone should be smarter than that? I mean is Contacts thinking I'm opening it AS a Contact? And since all it sees is a jpg, it crashes?
This seems like it'd be good functionality. now I wonder if Bixby would look up a photo and put it into a contact for me....
