HELP with XDA2i !!! - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

My XDa2I has today started randam resets , 7 times thus far !
I changed the battery with no success and it has just settled down at last .
Each reset showed the serial numbers at the bottom of the screen .
Does that indicate something ??

???????????

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It reset again this morning !!
Back to manufacturers settings
Everything LOST !!!

More information required...
was it sat on a table when it reset, being used, in your pocket or what?
Were you running any non-standard software from startup?
Maybe it's a bad connection on the main battery...
Maybe it's a bad connection on the backup battery..
Maybe it's a bad connection on the reset button...
Does it need recharging after it's reset?
What % are the two batteries reading before/after a reset?
With no more information, it could be _anything_.
The serial numbers are something like (R 1.04.00 , G 1337.42 & D 1.11 00 WE) I take it?
That's nothing of use - they are just shown automatically after a hard or soft reset.
Maybe try cleaning the battery connections and see if that helps.

Thank you !
All I remember is that after about 5 years of very few problems , certainly nothing like this , it started acting crazy when I simply unplugged it from the mains adapter as I have done every day for the last few years.
It has settled down again today but I darent put my usual SPB software on it again in case it starts reseting itself ..

Any ideas where I can get a cheap replacement battery for my dying XDA 2i ?

Should removing the battery reset time and date

Hi,
As the title says really.
I removed the battery today and upon powering it back up the time and date were reset.
Surely there is an internal battery to keep these settings isn't there?

mine does not reset, but how long was your battery out? I have heard conflicting reports about an internal battery, some say yes, some say no, cant say for sure
Hi Shogun,
You have replied to my posts under your beta software posts as this was where I first noticed that my phone crashed twice and on reboot the time/date reset.
Now today i removed the battery for about a minute while I changed the sim card and the time/date reset itself again.
Trying to isolate the why its doing it.
has anyone taken their wizard apart to see if there truly is an internal battery? some people said that according to the service manual there is a spot for it... If there really is an internal battery then i would vote its dead, if there isnt one then i have no clue
Mine is brand new (less then a month) and it ALWAYS resets when i change battery (sometimes i can change itin 4 seconds and it still resets). I also have used a few programs that can detect backup batteries and 2 of them show none.
mine hasn't reset when I've pulled the battery out in the past
Thanks for the replies.
Now some do some dont now this is confusing.
I'm using a Qtek 9100 maybe thats the difference, what are you using?
I have an O2 Xda Mini S and it's also resetting.....
This is a known issue with a lot of native WM5 devices and is caused by the very small capacitor that is supposed to power the clock for some seconds while you change batteries. I don't think anything can be done.

well you could in theory replace the cap with a battery... but you wil have to have mad soldering skills and the schematics (or repair manual possibly) and tiny battery, or maybe you could mode the case to hold a watch battery or 3 lol

Battery Diagnostics

Hello,
I have upgraded my Imate PDA2k ROM Helmi_BA_WM2k5_AKU3.5_v1.4.CF2 R2 by baniaczek for about a month now. It has been working perfectly fine with no much issues on Wifi and other stuff. But since last one week i see my battery runs out within 3 hours and each time i had to re-charge the same. Even though the usage is really minimal. ( May be 2 or three calls and no real PDA usage). Also i feel the device is heated up most of the time. Are there any diagnostic tools for battery ?. .. Is this caused by any program running continously.
Any suggestions to find out the battery problem.
It is probably a running program or some activated interface (GPRS, IrDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). Make sure they are all deactivated.
Thanks for the reply. I have tried disabling BT/WiFi / GPS ( even deleted GPS Connections ). Still the battery runs only for 3 to 4 hours. How can i figure out which of the applications might be causing the problem ??..... ( As i stated in my previous post things were fine two weeks back ). I can not figure out!... Can this be a hardware problem ?. Should i try flashing the ROM again ?.
Any suggestions will be of great help.
Thanks.
Is the backlight always on?
No. I think its a hardware problem. I flashed the ROM again and still the battery was draining really fast. Anyways i will change the battery now and check.
regards
Perhaps the battery is getting life expired. THe most common indication of expiring battery is that it stats taking longer to charge and gets drained faster...Try replacing the battery..
Your right but it shouldn't happen in so great leap. You said that you flashed another ROM. Try doing master reset and leave the device in factory-fresh state - do not restore anything from backup imediately. If it is fine then, it is a software problem. If it is not, try turning on the flight mode for determining if it is GSM related. I'm afraid that a new battery won't solve anything.
?
i'm guessing that your IR is turned on since you did not state it on your post earlier!
IR eats your battery like pacman does.

It would still be interesting to have battery diagnostics software. Does anyone know of such a package?
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/batterytests.html?en
might be useful for testing.. could potentially try different screen brightness and speeds to get a comparison. I will say that I used to only get 1 day from my old OEM battery.. got one of the e-bay special 2500mAh and now it easily gets 3 days with the same usage pattern as before..
After a long time again a re-post on this. Well my problems seems to be not getting over. I flashed the PDA2k to factory state and still the battery was draining. Then next obvious thing was to replace the battery. Now i have a brand new battery and reflashed again to factory state and my fears are coming true... still the battery drains in 3 hours... what next guys ?.

have you checked ur infra red setting? make sure its OFF! i think, it is turned on as default after flashing! or maybe your charger is defective! try someones charger!
IR disabling has not helped in the past. But i tried again but no much use. The equipment is heated up during normal usage time. Is there any thing more i can try before my BA becomes a history. ( BTW. the repair center refused take anything other than the screen changes and battery replacements. !!.. )
Any one having any idea how to reset the bios ?. I think my battery problems are related to trying out the Trial Version of Pocket Hack Master to overclock the PDA. I have uninstalled it long time back and may even have performed three to four times ROM updates but may not have reset the software's overclocking settings back .. ?!!...
BTW. The service center argued out that the any ROM updates other than official Imate ROM will void the warrantee and twice they returned without repair and attributed the the problem of heating to ROM updates... ( without even checking!! ...
I faced the same problem when attempted to upgrade my Harrier. I agree, that there must be an error somewhere in the device BIOS that cannot be that easily reflashed. Unfortunately, I could not find any solution and had to replace the useless phone that drained the battery within 4-5 hrs.
Yes the over clocking eatsup the battery as well as causes heating up the device. So better dactivate the over clocking..

Battery discharges too quickly

I have a Qtek 2020i and recently it got a serious battery problem. On a sudden the main battery started loosing its charge too early. It can become from 100% to 30% for a night (whan no operations are performed on the device). Before this breakdown the battery was loosing approximately 5% per night. At daytime when I use the machine, this process is quicker.
I use the battery for more than a year but the reason of the problem is not a battery. By the end of the day the meter shows 0% of the main battery (when in cradle, of course). Meanwhile the backup battery remains 100% and hard reset is not performed. If the main battery would really be 0%, I would loose all my data, but it never happens.
After I put my device in the cradle, it is "recharged" to 100% for less than an hour.
I made a hard reset of my device and after it the meter worked well. But after restoring the data from backup the problem reappeared.
I have some other problems that may be related to the battery problem. The Camera.exe looses its label in Programs and stops starting by pressing hardware button.
The device is loading slower after soft reset.
I change time for one Alarm. It works not only in the new time but also in all the previously set times.
There is a thread where similar problems were discussed, but there is no solution for the battery problem. Here is its link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282763&highlight=battery
The problem may be in the register or in the battery driver or wherever. Please, someone help me and describe the solution for the other users of Apline.
Sounds to me like your battery is knackerd it does happen look on e-bay loads of places (usually in Hong Kong) selling new ones maybe even get a uprated one the standard one in the XDA IIi is a 1300Ah they do sell 2400 and even 3600 Ah ones I am in the process of buying a 3600Ah one myself, they are not a vast fortune (around £15 GBP) and worth that.
I have an upgraded battery myself. The computer behaves with it like with the 1300. Only the bigger battery discharges slower. But still quicker than few weeks before. This is a software problem and it disappears after the hard reset. But i don't want to make a hard reset and reinstall all my programs from zero. Besides, the problem can reappear. So, this is not a solution.
Software cannot run a battery down alone unless you have something permanatly turned on, that would be your choice.
if there is a hardware fault that could

i had a large capacity 3600mah battery and it was stuffed it would just lose all its juice instantly.
apart from getting a new bat, have you updated your firmware? or just reinstalling your firmware, there may a be prob with it.
but it does sound more likly that its time to buy a orbit
The most likely option is that wireless is on and not being indicated by the led or on the display, go into connections and see if it shows or better still see if your laptops wireless connection can see the phone, sometimes the indicator does not show but it is active.

I never made an update of my firmware. Dou you mean a hard reset by reinstalling the firmware or some updating (new ROM version etc)? The batteries come without any firmware. My ROM version is 1.11.00 WWE. I guess, there must be an update, but after updating the ROM I will lose all the date on the device, and I don't want this happen.

I made a test and my wireless is not on.
i ment the rom, sry i deal with pc`s all day and it tends to stick.
yup update the rom, this may be your porblem, but make sure you do not update it on a vista pc, as it wont and you will end up stuck in boot loader mode. only update on a XP machine.
failing that its a buggered battery
Now I will not do anything that can make me reinstall my programs (as i have many). I am looking for some registry key, a checkbox, a process to be killed to solve the battery problem and leave the whole system inchanged.
I already have a solution, but I am not satisfied with it. Thgat is to make a hard reset no backup. Naturally, I will have to reinstall all my programs after that.
This solution has two bad points:
1. Reinstallation of all programs. That is a several days of work.
2. I will not know the reason of the failure. If the problem keeps returning in future, I will have to repeat the whole process again and again.
After the hard reset the meter works good, so I am syre that the battery is not buggered.
I am begining to wonder if you have a virus in it causing the problem? do you have any AV software?
what software do u have on it that will take several days to reinstall? there may be some compatablitly problems with the programs fighting for resorces.
and if you do a hard reset u may as well update the firmware.
i have just installed a new touch screen on my dads 2020i (his second in 3 months) and had to reinstall over 16 programs and that only took 30mins including removing and resoldering the new touch pannel. his backup battery is dead ;[.
McAfee VirusScan McAfee VirusScan
I tested my device with Airscanner Mobile AntiVirus Pro and McAfee VirusScan. They did not find anything, as I had expected.
I also made a hard reset to my device and switched my batteries several times. The device was recognizing them and showing correct information about their state. Both batteries worked long and short periods of time. So, the batteries are perfectly alive as well as computer hardware.
I use my PPC extensively, as we are not allowed to have pirate software on office computers. So I often prefer the Pocket PC to the Desktop one. I have more than 50 programs installed on my Pocket PC: maintenance tools, GPS programs with maps and waypoints, a reader, a player with plugins, a dictionary with the complicated installation procedure, some games. The list is not full. The setups for all of them are situated in different places. I would also have to copy my contacts and appointments. These are not hard jobs, but there is too many of them.
Besides, I am not as proficient as you, skeeve666.
If I don’t find a solution for my problem, I will reinstall my software in the weekend. That will help me to make rearrangements in it. By the way, do you know, where the newest firmware is? Anyway by looking for the answer to the battery question I learn more about my device.
Who knows, maybe I am lucky.

like is said if you hard rest u may as well flash your firmware, and you said u hard reset.
why is this a problem? and no offensese and no need for you to take one, as you already have. but i realy dont see why you wont try this as you have already "factory reset" aka hard reset your phone. but after a reflash backups wont work.
as for the latest firmware just look in the update section. you must not update in vista only on a xp pc.
but after all this, it may just be a hard ware prob that only effects your battery monitoring
The reason why my battery was discharging so quickly is not known to anyone, including the staff of a service center. So, I made a backup of a faulty system (as a memory) and did a hard reset.
After a day of installing over 50 programs my computer is better than ever. I did not dare to install some other firmware but I placed as much data as possible to the Storage Card and now I have a maximum of 50 Mb free Program memory and 46 Mb of Storage memory. I upgraded some programs and improved the work of the other.
I am thankful to everyone who showed interest to my battery problem. I wish everyone good luck in using Qteks.
do you have a link to a 3600 mAh battery?

unfortunaly this was a while ago, and that battery was set for recylcing, but it is alot more bulky it sticks out about 4-5mm i have gone with 3 original batteries just have to swap them out
I bought a 3600mAh battery from Hong Kong was about £9.99 if I remember right but it came with a new back to cover the thicker battery and that battery lasts me up to 48 hours provided I dont leave the screen turned on best thing I have done for it IMHO
did some digging and I put this in another post
think this is the link
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/battery_centre/
it cost £9.99 plus I think it was £4.99 P & P

Wow Calinosu not sure what to say. Any number of apps that you have installed could be causing this issue. I know a number of people suspect S2U2 and Gyrator2 of being battery hogs but I run both and don't seem to have a problem. All I can suggest is do a hard reset and install one app at a time and see where things start to go wrong, other than that it would be a guessing game as we have no idea what you've installed.
If I run Gyrator 2, my phone will go from fully-charged to completely dead in about 7 hours, and that's without me even touching it.
Hello and good morning,
i have a lot of trouble with my battery while i using a docking station from eBay. This dockingstation discharge my battery in one night. I think, there was a problem with the external power.
Now, without this dockingstation and only a USB connection it works fine.

[Q] Battery dies rapidly after a full charge

HI
My wife has my old Touch Diamond2. She complains that after charging it overnight, the battery shows as FULL, but within a few hours it is dsicharged.
1. Does the battery need replacing
2. How can I check to confirm it is the battery and not the charger/phone.

Thanks Senax for the nice link.. That is very nice thread to read and understand
thanks
I think the phone possibly has a hardware fault.
It strange, because if I take the simm out the phone keeps alomost full charge for the whole day!!
Not sure if its worth fixing.

May be you can check what all kind of networks are working/used when SIM is in? Also make the network selection Manual instead of AUTO and see the difference.
thanks.

Thanks lfallasm and TD2IN
I dont want to flash the phone cos I have software (TomTOm) on the phone for which I no longer have the original CD to re-install. Also I have never flashed before.
I will try the network selection suggestion.
cheers
Network selection is already set to Manual.
I noticed something very STRANGE today.
I thought it maybe due to the signal in the new house we moved to, so I took the phone to work. Made one call and it went dead. Tried to start the phone, but battery to weak.
I took the sim out. started the phone without the sim and HEY PRESTO, battery is 75% full!!
Any ideas whats going on??
You should really flash it first, and if it fails you have a faulty phone. But flash it with HTC stock Rom, because you will lose waranty if you use anything else.
Its out of warranty. (My wife uses this phone now)
Would a FACTORY reset achieve the same as flashing with a HTC stock rom??
regards
FIXED.
The battery was faulty.
Apparently is had developed a slight "buldge" in the middle. Probably due to over heating.
Bought a new battery and all seems well.
£8 battery saved me buying a wildfire S for the wife.
