[Q] 2.1 to 2.2 swype problemette - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, today I moved up from 2.1 to 2.2 using the Kies Reg Patcher. Everything has gone fine except I seem to have lost my Swype. I backed everfything up with Titanium Pro and reinstalled without any probs. However, Swype didn't want to play. I can see the Titanium zip but I can't seem to do anything to get it back. Is this something to do with Swype being pre-installed on my Galaxy S? I loved Swype and really want it back (preferably without going back to 2.1). Can anyone shine a light on what may have happened here?

Apps backup

So, I thought I backed everything up when switching from 1.5 to 2.1 leak. Then I realized that the apps I had paid for while running 1.5 were "lost". I put that in quotes because maybe Im not looking in the right place. If I go from the 2.1 leak to the 2.1 OTA rom from HTC, will I be losing my paid apps? Is there a way to backup and reinstall these apps on the OTA 2.1 rom? Thanks for the help.

I'm not rooted. When I installed the 2.1 leak I backed up every folder on my phone before install. When I went into the folders to transfer the apps and games I had on 1.5 I couldn't find any of the things I had backed up. Also, certain apps like Bank of America and Lookout no longer let me log in. Any ideas on what I did wrong?
If I'm not mistaken, the only security on the market is that the apps are not accessable to non-root users. Since you were unrooted, you couldn't have copied them.
Hmmm... didn't think about that. (Still a NooB ) So, if I were to update from 2.1 leak to 2.1 OTA, would I lose the apps that I have paid/registered for or is there a way to backup or reinstall them on the new 2.1? Thanks again.

[Q] Moving to 2.2 and installing new rom?

Currently I have a droid, with BB v1.1 on it along with DropTheme installed on it. What I want to do is, update my phone to 2.2 since it is currently 2.1, download and install the Sapphire rom for it, and put DropTheme back on it
How do I go about doing this? how do I update to 2.2? Do I just install 2.2, go to rom manager and install sapphire, then reinstall drop theme?
Help please. This stuff confuses the hell out of me.
Also, how do I back up my call log and contacts? Really don't wanna lose those in the move over. So far I backed up with rom manager and titanium backup but that is it.
Thanks!

[Q] Can I get some advice on improving my galaxy s

Hi my phone has recently had the froyo build from keis using the reg hack and it's definately worse than before. I want to do the following but just want to check its a good idea/ best way.
I want to do a factory reset (to clear out any 2.1 garbage hanging around)
root the phone
install a lag fix
possibly install another fw
I have backed up the apps I car about with astro I was then going to do a factory reset
Then root the phone with SuperOneClick
Then install CFLagFix
Then hopefully my phone would stop behaving badly.
Also a bit worried about the fact I used the keis hack should I have waited for the uk release? How will I be able to install the uk froyo build when it is released?
Is there a fw with all this stuff pre done which would work better?
(another question is there any fw out yet which support the wii mote?)
Thanks
Sorry also had another question. Is it a good idea to install another launcher and if so whats the best way to do this is there some kind of lite rom I can install which wouldn't come with all the anoying smasung stuff and touch wiz?
I upgraded to Froyo via the reg hack, and having not done a factory reset, it was slow as **** even with OCLF.
But once I installed voodoo, it was like night and day. Vastly faster than 2.1 ever was, even with OCLF. And I still haven't done a factory reset, and probably won't.

[Q] Titanium backup not working after Froyo update

Updated my phone to the 2.2 JPM firmware successfully and then applied the root using the CF-Root v1.2 method. Everything working fine so far I applied the new Voodoo-5-pre6-Froyo fix and phone rebooted fine. Now I go to install Titanium backup and it requests root privileges which I confirm but it still says it cannot attain superuser privileges when attemping to run Titanium.
Anyone know what's up? I wouldn't mind getting my old apps back
Simply restart Titanium, happens to me all the time. Once restarted, it should work normally.
However, generally if you have come from a non-froyo ROM, it is recomended that you do not use Titanium to backup, due to the 2.1 system data causing a force closes.
I was looking for the button to thank you because I JUST had the exact same issue. Googled it and brought me here.
Thanks so much. I kept hesistating whether I wanted to try one of the froyo roms since it was taking FOREVER to get the official version and I was tired of waiting around.
@ coboltmarine
I want to flash my galaxy with Froyo (still have 2.1). Therefore I would like to backup my firmware first if something goes wrong so I can re-do everything. Since you said that backing up a non-froyo with titanium is not recommended, which one would you recommend? Do you know any posted thread which could help me in this?
Thanks a lot

[Q] Restoring stock apps on a custom ROM - swype, samsung keyboard, etc.

I installed Cyanogenmod 10 stable (jelly Bean) on to my Captivate. Now I don't like the Cyanogen keyboard, and would like to restore the Samsung keyboard (2.3.5) that was on my Gingerbread stock ROM, which I'd backed up using Titanium Backup.
When I try to restore, it Titanium keeps on forever - i.e. hangs
Also, I've tried to restore the stock Swype 2.9 that came with the Captivate. Can restore it, but it never works - keep getting messages that it stops.
With Swype, at least I have the option of a decent Beta (v 1.3) that I can install.
How do I get the stock keyboard to work on 4.1? And the licensed Swype if possible.
Thanks

Pretty sure you can't get that keyboard to work... but if you want Swype, all you need is beta.swype.com
