[Q] Nothing after "galaxyS" screen - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a problem and can't seem to find a solution. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I was running my I9000M on UGJK3 and just today I installed Kies onto my pc. Also inserted a fresh formated mirco sd card into the phone. I began using Kies to transfer some movies. I tried to send over a .avi clip that was only 2 mbs but it would freeze the transfer when the bar was nearly done. I ended up closing the application via. ctrl/alt/delete. I tried it about 2 or 3 times and no luck so I was going to try it again some other time. Now normally I would close kies by hitting the home button on my phone or disconnecting first with Kies on pc but this time I accidentally pulled the USB out before any of it. My phone is pattern locked and when i was pulling out my USB my finger touched the screen and even though it was the incorrect pattern, it still let me in. Mind you it was still scanning media. I thought it was weird so I pressed the power to off screen and tried to input my pattern to see if it would let me in. This time no luck and after a numorous attempts, still no luck. It asked for my google account info. which i put in and it would only be stuck on "checking" and the screen would fade and return to the pattern lock. With no luck, i tried turning the phone off and removing my ext. sd card, battery pull and rebooting. Now the screen will just go black after the fancy S symbol galaxy S intro screen. the back button and menu button light up but doesn't boot into home screen.
My 3 button still works and i tried to wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache...no luck. I used odin and booted up download mode and flashed JK3 in again and wiped data, wiped cache before even rebooting. Still nothing after the S screen. I noticed that in recovery screen, the bottom has yellow and red text saying
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount / dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(I/0 error)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.

Does anyone know what may be wrong with my phone? Please help...
Thanks

[Q] Help! Corrupted internal SD Card and can't find a way to wipe

First, some background:
I've had the S for 2 months now and about a month ago I applied JG5/Modaco r2 and Mimocam lag fix. All was well, 1800+ benchmark figures and no lag at all. That was until a few days ago....
As I was reading on the device, a number of errors started to pop up, force closes, etc. It stopped responding completely so I took the battery out and rebooted. Straight away I was hit with multiple force close and 'process stopped unexpectedly' messages. Basically, it was an unusable brick.
When I took the SD card out the errors were different so, figuring it was related to the Mimocam fix, I decided to undo it. I removed the symlink to the sd card and copied everything to the local data directory.
That didn't work, so I did a hard reset. Which also didn't work. Worse than that, I now can't get the phone to connect in any way to the PC so can't reflash and I can't access any settings on the phone because the error messages keep appearing and obscuring the screen.
Last thing I tried was repartitioning the SD card to see if the ext3 partition was corrupt and that hasn't helped either.
Which is where I am now. What I really want to do is wipe the internal SD and effect a total factory reset but I can't think of any way to do it. I can't access the phone through adb (device not found), Kies (keeps trying to connect but never does) and I can't do it through the phone. I also can't send it back because it has 'flashed rom' written all over it, especially when a root request pops up in the background.
I'm all out of ideas, short of trying to degauss it somehow.
Help! Please!

Or recovery mode: format sd card, clear cache etc ?
Turn the phone off, hold Home + Vol -, then press Power.
I don't see how you can get error messages there...
Doesn't work, I can't get it in to recovery mode. Neither vol up or down work using the 3 button hold. I've tried repeatedly and it just boots as normal, although the animation doesn't display while it boots but it does play the audio.
So I take it I'm f***ed then?
bumping this up and subscribing. I hope you find a solution soon, man.
if you know what your firmware was, get it from samsung-firmwares, get odin, and flash your phone. maybe that will solve your problem.
Keep in mind that I wont be responsible if your phone gets bricked if you mess up the procedure (however the chances of it being bricked is very less if you follow the instructions properly).
search the forum for flashing via odin.

No, I've tried over and over and d/l mode doesn't work. The phone just reboots.

Try the Vol + Recovery mode. The timing is a bit tricky.
On my phone, if I keep Vol+, Home and Power button held down, the phone goes into a reboot loop (it keeps showing the logo, blank, logo, blank). After the logo appears the 2nd time, wait 1 second then release the Power button. Then it goes into the Recovery mode.
If you can't get it to work, try it without the USB/power plugged in as well.
Tried settings/sd card and phone storage/unmount internal sd/format? Or u could do settings/security/factory reset
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I can't really try that because, as I said, I can't get past any of the error messages that pop up on the phone.
Have had to bite the bullet and take it in to T-mo for a repair and hope they don't notice
Will find out in 28 days.
I had a similar problem with JPC. After a while both the internal and external sd cards crapped out. After pulling the external sd and many tries I was able to boot into recovery mode where it says something like E: cant mount etc.
After pulling the ext sd card I was able to get into download mode and downgrade to JM7 with odin. After formatting with odin. It took two tries.
I still don't have access or storage on both the int and ext sd. I have roughly 2gb storage on the internal non-sd memory of the phone (i am not sure what it is but its enough to run android and I can make calls).
I can't install apps use the camera or anything that uses either of the sd cards for storage.
I did try a new sd card that was installed on the phone when it was stock FW but it doesnt work either.
I have a thread posted about it.

am wondering, did your phone ever work with the three button mode to enter download/recovery ? or did you always flash using "adb reboot recovery" ?

it would be nice if there was a way.
I agree with Electroz.
there is a new software out by Samsung
new PC Studio, it comes with a feature to "Emergency Restore"
you can try that, and see if that does anything to the internal SD
links are on the SGS wiki, click my link

I'll give it a shot, downloading now.
I'm not sure where to send my phone in, I called samsung, they sent me to bell, but I bought my phone from best buy and I'm with fido...
It sees both drives, but that's about it, when I try to click on them it just says "insert the disk into drive ..."
There has to be a way to format the internal card with a third party application. I'm gonna keep looking.

URGENT - Need to wipe handset with broken screen

Hey guys,
Recently the screen on my i9000 became faulty and will not load up anything at all. Infact its completely back and seems to have no power running though it all.
Apart from that my phone is working fine, is able to receive calls and messages and functions normally.
Now the problem is I currently have the handset for sale on Ebay due to complete tomorrow.
I still have data on the phone which i really need wiped before selling the phone and initially assumed by flashing a stock ROM via Odin this would wipe all user data also..
I was wrong, after 7 several attempts.. (I did seemingly manage to get the phone into download mode without working screen as Odin opperated as normal without any errors) the phone still responds to emails I send to my account.
I am unable to access the phone on Kies...
I've tried doing a hard reset using the keys during bootup however without working screen I have not managed yet to find the format option successfully.
Is there any other ways that I could wipe the data without a working display?
Are there any options on Odin that I am missing?

Hi mate,
Thanks for the reply.
Do I need to put the phone into a specific mode for the format utility to function correctly?
As I managed to get the utility to reconise the phone by turning the handset off however whenever I press the format button it states format fail!
Also its weird that under settings it initially shows 2 options;
1st option) whole hard disk
This does not display any size quota on the bottom status bar.
2nd option) F:
The quota shows 996.53GB... as far as I was aware the phone is not that large.. could the utility be picking up my main hard drive hence the reason the format fails each time regardless of fat32 or NTFS?
The device section also has options both called USB Android UMS composit. depending on which i choose the 2nd option under setting becomes either F: or G: both being the same size quota.
Any advice on where I am going wrong?

IT can detect, when Phone is OFF or powered ON, best to have it powered on.

Ok, remove your External SD card, and check your PC, as to what is the Drive letter of your Internal SD card ..Click My computer> should give you details of removable storage.

Not to worry about size quota , as it gives the same for any hard drive it detects, its more like the capacity it can handle, the important thing is to format the correct drive, which you can identify by removing you ext sd card as well as, checking your removal storage Drive ID.
If your phone is powered ON, it will give the model of your phone under Device and an option to select its SD card under device
under Drive to format chose the correct SD card , as listed in your PC as removable storage .
Most of all, for proper USB functions, you need sufficient power, so use your PC USB slots at the back

[Q] External sd card won't mount

After every time I restart my phone and it turns back on my phone will never automatically mount my sd card, so I have to go into setting and manually mount it myself which normally isn't a problem but every once in a while my phone won't let me mount it, when i click on the mount sd card button, it goes to another screen that has a title Reset? and the whole screen is blank. I have reset the phone, taken the sd card out, I have done everything that has normally worked in the past to get it to remount but this time nothing will work. Has anyone else had this problem, or any suggestions how to fix it?
Thanks

Sorry, no help for you, but I have the same problem here. Started just a few days ago. I haven't made any changes to my settings that I know of that could have caused it. Anyone have any suggestions for getting back the ability to mount the SD card?
Yup, me too, just rooted my phone trying to get cifs manager (cifs.ko) installed and working with my win7 machine (no luck w/that yet either)... since then the external sdcard unmounts from time to time and restarting the phone requires a manual mount
Fixed?
What I had to do was basically move my entire sd card on to my computer then I formatted my sd card put only my necessary things back on there and it fixed it, stupid but it got it to mount right away...oh and I formatted it though the phone erase function not using the computer, so I didn't have to take the sd card out again.
Tried the erase all, but no luck... I suspect it's related to installing busybox... tried unistalling that without success too... would installing another ROM likely fix that, and if so any recommendations?
Talking about an HTC vivid
I'm having the same issue, except it partially mounts the external card (only shows a couple of folders but not the /music folder with 2100 songs along with 4-5 other folders)...Only way I have been able to fix it is to connect it to the PC as a disk drive then disconnect it, then all the folders "reappear".
If I put the card in my tablet I have no issues.
I tried a new card but the problem is still there.
Any help or suggestions?

Good Evening OP,
I had a problem like this earlier today. I finally rooted and flashed a new rom (PACman). I used CWM as my recovery, and apparently this is part of the issue. You need to use TWRP for your recovery instead. Their website is at http://teamw.in/project/twrp they have instructions located there on how to install TWRP onto your Vivid. I used the fastboot method, then changed the settings in the 'Mount' tab to mount SD Cart, Internal and Use External SD. Worked like a charm. And since it's touch based no more using the volume rockers and power button... Hope this helps! By the way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109140 had the initial lead to install TWRP instead of CWM.

[Q] Issue: Internal memory un-available/mountable

I'll try to keep this short. Couldnt find anything similar on the forum hence posting.
-Had a 1 1/2 have year old stock i9000 but it turned extremely slow whilst booting. took anywhere b/w 15mins to 300min to start up. Though, once started up it worked fine, but slow with response to fast paced touch.
-To sort the problem I updated the firmware to the latest via KIES and cleared the cache using the Vol up + Menu + Power button. Cache cleared but saw this error rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2. So I reset it only to see the error again.
After reseting it I tried flashing it with cyanogen mod 10 aftter rooting it with CMR(gotted from the CM forum), but the the process failed after selecting the zip file. I thot the phone was bricked as it wouldnt boot up but was able to get it work again using this thread - [Firmwares]Official I9000/I9000M Firmwares collection
After this I tried installing CM a gazillion times after knowing how to renew the phone but it kept erroring out the same way( pics attached).
During this, I accidentally formatted the phone memory using the comp(took a good 1 hour to happen) thinking its the memory card. Now then, the phone doesnt recognise the internal memory. The options(mount/format) are greyed out and total and available space read,"unavailable" while the phone does show 13 GB space available.
When i connect the phone to the comp 2 drives show up. one with 13.2 GB space and one that which I cannot access. Any pics/music dumped on the phone is unreadable on the phone.
Can anyone help me with fixing this issue? I guess while reinstalling the stock OS I checked the "repartition" box once.
'have aleady tried resetting it/ installing the stock rom...but it didnt help. Please find pics attached.

[Q] "Unable to mount SD", can I access storage via PC?

TL ; DR: Splash stuck on restart, "Mount attempt 1/2/3/4/5... Unable to mount SD card message" in recovery mode, need to access storage to retrieve files I'd rather not lose, is there any way to plug into a computer with the device in boot or recovery mode to access my files?
Long verson:
I haven't rooted my phone or downloaded any weird or strange apps. I didn't recently update or load or add or install anything new to my phone, nor did I drop it hard. Nothing new or different happened, I just decided to restart my phone before bed, and now it doesn't work. The HTC ONE splash pops up, then the AT&T logo appears: Typically it goes through a small animation, but now instead it's just the logo and an animated glare practically indiscernibly moves a couple of pixels across the logo (like it's a lagging GIF). Before the glare moves completely across the logo, the phone restarts and the so does the process.
I can access recovery mode and when I do I get the "Mount attempt 1/2/3/4/5... Unable to mount SD card message". So I guess the only thing left for me to do is try factory reset, but there are a couple files I want off the device if I can manage that. I was hoping to be able to USB plug into my computer into recovery mode and access the storage like a portable hdd but I can't figure out which mode to go into or if its even possible.
Suggestions?

do you have a custom recovery installed? If yes you can use adb pull to copy your file to your pc.

nope, he doesn't the message "Mount attempt 1/2/3/4/5... Unable to mount SD card message" is stock recovery

You're right, I didn't know that.
I just finished going into recovery mode and wiping data/factory reset option anyway, giving up accessing the files I needed, and the same thing is happening. HTC ONE logo, switch to AT&T logo with a laggy glare animation, auto restart and the process restarts again. Is there anything I can do to allievate this problem?
