[Q] Lost 3G icon - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What could be the cause of the 3G icon to show only G?
5 minutes ago I had 3G. I'm at the same spot at my work place.
Could GSM/WCDMA effect these settings? My network is GSM (Orange).
So I changed it from Auto to GSM only. Then I revert the setting back but I still get G only.
Is there anything to do with HSPA?

3G / GMS

When I set my Diamond to Auto configuration it always chooses GSM with GPRS data, I believe its because the signal is stronger than 3G.. If I set the phone to 3G it works fine (almost always shows full signal strenght). But at my work I have no 3G signal, and I need to manually set the phone to "auto" och GSM again, and it wont change back to 3G when there is 3G in range again (even if I choose Auto).
So, my question is, is there any app or solution to ALWAYS be connected to 3G when there is enough signal, if not, it will choose GSM until it finds the 3G signal again?
Im getting quite irritated when I need to change the band manually several times a day...
Thanks..

Advanced Config has an option to add a '3G' button to CommManager which does exactly what you want.
What I would really like however, is a 3G button that toggles between '3G' and 'GSM', rather than 'Auto' and 'GSM'
Anyone ?

Disable "3G" while enabling "H" - possible or not?

My carrier has bad 3G operation, whilst HSDPA works fine. The problem is that phone sometimes switches between 3G and H, and when it does switch to 3G, there is no internet until it swithes back to H or down to E. I'm almost sure that this is caused by carrier, and I can't fix it with firmware. So I would like my Tab to avoid 3G mode at all, while using H and E. Can I set it to do so?

Unfortunately, it's impossible, you can either choose "H" & "3G" with wcdma/umts or "G" & "E" with GSM in Mobile Networks. You can't choose to leave out 3G when it's doing H, cause both of them are under wcdma mode.
Of cause, if you leave your "Network mode" to auto, it will jump around gsm and wcdma when it see fit. By choosing it to run GSM mode only, will keep your network connect to "E"/"G(gprs)" ONLY; Or WCDMA for "H"/"3G" ONLY.

[Q] LTE/3G switch issue

Hi, I have an F340L and from the hidden menu I've set the Data connection to Global+LTE. When I'm in an LTE area the phone automatically connects to the 3G network and not to 4G. In order to make a 4G connection I have to enter the hidden menu, set it to LTE only, the device reboots and then the LTE connection is possible. Why is that? I mean why the device prefers 3G in an LTE area and needs the above procedure. Is there anyway to bypass that without a reboot or even automatic 4G connection? Any workaround, input or comments are welcome.

Displaying Mobile Network Icon

Hey, im not sure what i should have called this thread but anyway, when i lose LTE on my phone it used to switch to H+, now it switches to 3G. Basically im wondering what i need to switch in the default file to display H+ instead of 3G
i hope this makes some sense
Well 3g and H+ are different. You can check to make sure in data settings that you have GSM/WCDMA/LTE AUTO set in there.

I basically loose the H (HSPA) service with my operator by taking the 4G package, I get 4G LTE, and in bad coverage area's, which is almost everywhere for Vodafone UK except major cities, I get a G or an E unless I can connect to a wifi.

[Q] How to force Moto X Developer edition (Verizon) to use only 3G

PagePlus does not activate an LTE phone on their "low-end" plan but allows a modified LTE phone to be activated. I used an app to make it CDMA only but PagePlus still cannot activate it saying it has some issues because their system still thinks it is LTE. I wonder if I have to something special on the phone.
I unlocked fast boot. The phone is not yet rooted.
Any help is appreciated.
Network connections? Set preffered to 3G/2G.
@kyzn is right with going to Settings > More > Cellular networks > Preferred network type and selecting 3g. This does not mean it will be in 3g only because 2g is there for a backup network signal in case that the 3g or higher signal is lost. Shouldn't be problem for you with what you are asking.

Grab this app, it'll take you to a menu which lets you select the mode you want.
