I don't know if this was already asked or not, but I want to change "This phone belongs to" on the lock screen of my Captivate. I searched for the answer with no luck. Can someone point me to a thread, or let me know how to do it.
THANKS!!!
Did you recently load an antivirus program? If so go into the settings and change it there.

that doesnt exist on stock. you must have an application installed that does that
Go into your antivirus that you downloaded go to settings then to remote management, under that folder you will see where you can turn the message off or edit it.

It was from the stupid app the whole time. I didn't even bother to look at the lock screen before I added the AV app, so I didn't realize that app added the message to that screen. I got it though, Thanks for the help!

Hi there,
I was just wondering if it was possible to change when the lockscreen password screen comes up? I want the password protection to show ONLY when my phone turns on, and not when i'm simply awakening my phone. I find it quite annoying.
Anybody know if this is possible through a hack or something? I'm using an unlocked Hero running VillainROM 10.
Thanks in advance,
Alex
there are half a doxen apps that do this, search the market.

Search the market for what exactly? :S I've searched a bit... found loads of alternate lockscreens. But I haven't found an app that will disable the native lockscreen password, but keep it for when the phone boots up.
there is one, sorry i cant rememeber the name, that puts it on a timer. Just search lock and go through them...
try g lock?

okay my bad I was wrong, it isnt working. what settings did you use? Mine was working, but it also stopped the password protection at the startup of the phone too - which isnt good !
i cant remember, i stopped using it now, because i dont use a password at all, just threaten people who pick up my phone.
I don't suppose anyone else has looked into this? I'm also in the same boat, I really just want something to protect startup.
I was wondering if there was a one touch lock app. I guess in a way it's similar to the iphone? Just press the widget and the phone's lockscreen engages. I dont want to press the power button all the time. I also have the screen on the quickest time out but sometimes find my phone doing weird things in my pocket lol. I've tried as many apps I could find but none of them seem to fit my needs.
I found one that does what I want but according to the reviews, people have problems with it and can't uninstall it. I dont really wanna take that chance.
Description from appbrain:
Lock Screen Widget
Locks your phone with one click iPhone-style.
Before uninstalling widget make sure to disable admin permissions in Location & security > Select device admin > Lock Screen Widget
So does anyone know of such an app?
Also how does one go about disabling the admin permissions in android 2.1 if I do decide to install the lock screen widget?
Thanks
I've got that installed. Works great. My power button stopped working when I replaced my digitizer.

You quoted the name of the app and instructions for how to use it................. search the market for "Lock Screen Widget" ..............
So I did but did you read the reviews? People can't uninstall it. I dont know about you but I can't find the admin permissions if I do need to uninstall it (obviously our phone doesnt have "location and security" it just has location and security listed separately but no "select device admin"). Maybe I'm looking under the wrong setting? Maybe I should've said I'm looking for something similar...

I installed it and was able to uninstall it as well. The instructions are right on the market page for the widget about disabling it in 'Select Device Administrators', but I have no idea why you wouldn't have that option.
Are you using the stock rom?
Yes I am using the stock rom. I'm guessing the device admin is in froyo.
I guess maybe I should get CM6 lol..
thanks for the info

Try a long-press on the screen? Most apps will follow the android guidelines of using the 3 dots to indicate the menu, but others (especially homescreens) will rely on long-presses to declutter the UI.

I already did yesterday
Does anyone know why I am getting this, and why the device refuses to let me know which app is causing the alert?
I wanna root, and I have read several posts where root was stopped and this message was displayed.
I have a brand new stock phone and wanna get rid of this crap right away !!!
I don't wanna start off my android experience with bugs !!!
I can post screen shots if needed, but anyone else seeing this has already seen what I have.
anyone else in the same boat? How do we get rid of this crap? Which app has been "forced to stop"?
I get the exact same error message from time to time.
Just like you, I don't know which of my apps is causing the error.

It is caused by Outlook Security which is useless but comes on the stock AT&T ROM. Just go into the App manager and stop it, and you should not get the warning anymore. For some dumb reason that program does not like stock apps. You would think they would have tested this more before they put it in the ROM. Oh yeah that's right, that's what we are for.

Thanks, I should have known. (I just read how great the app was on another thread on Thursday - lol)
Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

This is happening on my note 8 as well. Have you been able to fix this? I'm a little worried it could be something malicious using back-end processes, like they programmed the exploit to send SMS messages without involving surface flinger...

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Can Not Thank You Enough! I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me. So thanks again and this is why I love this Forum!
