"Prevention Information" on Stock Phone? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know why I am getting this, and why the device refuses to let me know which app is causing the alert?
I wanna root, and I have read several posts where root was stopped and this message was displayed.
I have a brand new stock phone and wanna get rid of this crap right away !!!
I don't wanna start off my android experience with bugs !!!
I can post screen shots if needed, but anyone else seeing this has already seen what I have.
anyone else in the same boat? How do we get rid of this crap? Which app has been "forced to stop"?

I get the exact same error message from time to time.
Just like you, I don't know which of my apps is causing the error.

It is caused by Outlook Security which is useless but comes on the stock AT&T ROM. Just go into the App manager and stop it, and you should not get the warning anymore. For some dumb reason that program does not like stock apps. You would think they would have tested this more before they put it in the ROM. Oh yeah that's right, that's what we are for.

Go to settings, application manager, slide left to ALL, and I am sorry I had the name wrong, it is LOOKOUT Security.

Task Manager Finally!

In the market, and it kills apps!!!
Oh, nice. Tried it and it seems to be working perfectly on my ADP1.
Yes..seems to work...SWEET!!!
def needs refinement but so far looking good.

Def nice start can't wait to see some updates on it.

Preferably some graphical updates. It can look neater than what it does. And as stated, seperating between processes & apps would be good

AGREED!
How do you know whats what? I mean if you kill a process you could cause a reset/freeze right?
From what I have seen, it can kill the process for a particular program but it still runs in the background and will possibly crash the phone. Hasn't happened yet but might after trying more programs. The only way it might lock up the entire phone is if you close one of the "stock background processes such as android.process.* " but then again... yes we still need something to kill the entire application. It's a good bit different that WM, when you kill the process for the application, then the application closes.

i hate to correct you but the process' are the applications. you mean Services' which are not listed as of yet... i emailed arron and i have not gotten a reply about that. i told him it would be awesome to list the process' and services linked to them so we could kill it all
Looks like the application was updated and it now kills programs! Excellent application, definitely one the best around now.
Questions about TASK MANAGER?
I have it installed on my g1, obviously because I have root access. I noticed there are some apps that keep coming back seconds after I terminate them. For example Craigslist and self help. Anyone know why craigslist keeps coming back. I understand selfhelp may be a background program. Also I restarted my phone and taskmanager shows these programs are already running? Whats up with that?
The 2nd question is when I terminate some apps like powermanager for example, I can still see it running in my notifications and I know it is still running because when I plug in the g1 my power setting are applied. Because it doesn't show it in the in the taskmanager list.
Does anyone else notice this? Task manager doesnt seem to eliminate some apps from running. It makes question that it really works. Can anyone verify this?

Yea it keeps coming back because it loads a Service that isn't listed on this program that continues to run the search command. The intervals are not that frequent but it keeps it loaded.
Craigslist checks every few minutes for postings, I believe. You can track particular posts. It's annoying that you can't disable it.

Taskmanager has been removed in favor of the premium app Advanced Taskmanager. It's only $0.99 and is a lot better then the old Taskmanager.

Beautiful Widgets Won't Download.

Alright. Let me lead off by saying I searched google and this forum and I couldn't find the answer to my problem. I have found the "answer" to my problem that has worked for other people but not for me. So let me explain my problem and the solutions I tried. Any help would be appreciated.
I bought Beautiful Widgets from the market place. When i go to download it, it says "download unsuccessful". Let me make clear that i'm not rooted (or ever want to be) and I'm running 2.1-update1.
Solutions that I've tried..
1. settings > apps > manage apps > I cleared data in the "Download Manager" and cleared cache in the "Market" section.
Basically i took this advice, http://androidforums.com/samsung-moment/38687-problem-beautiful-widgets.html, it worked for that dude, Didn't work for me.
2. I've restarted the phone a few times and that didn't work.
3. I refunded my money, and bought the app again, didn't work that time either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Edit: I gave this a new title because paid apps do download, just not beautiful widgets.
Can you install any app at all or does this affect all apps?

this only happens to paid apps. After all of this happened, I successfully downloaded beautiful silent widgets (or w/e) in the market and it was free.

extremely frusterating

Do they take apps down when they update them? Just curious, after you answer that i'll give an update after I find out what the problem is.
A dude on #android on Efnet IRC has the same problem.
He tried to buy it, said it went successful, then it was authorizing purchase for a long time.
Then got stuck, then Google issued him a refund because of some server error.
Now, when he goes to his downloads, it says Beautiful Widgets still says "purchased".
The BW author is on twitter all the time. I talk to him time to time. I think it was yesterday he mentioned that there are problems with his server and discussing with the powers that be to get a new one. If you have a twitter account, you may try him there if you havent sent him an email already.
hum - having exactly the same problem.. says purchased, click install, says download unsuccessful.. Followed the cache clear and made no difference..

bumping this:
I have emailed dev - but no reply..
Anyone have any thoughts?
Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but Beautiful Widgets caused problems for me anyway. Constant freezes and crashes. Overall slowdown of everything. I'm back to normal after uninstalling.

[Q] change "This phone belongs to" on the lock screen

I don't know if this was already asked or not, but I want to change "This phone belongs to" on the lock screen of my Captivate. I searched for the answer with no luck. Can someone point me to a thread, or let me know how to do it.
THANKS!!!
Did you recently load an antivirus program? If so go into the settings and change it there.

that doesnt exist on stock. you must have an application installed that does that
Go into your antivirus that you downloaded go to settings then to remote management, under that folder you will see where you can turn the message off or edit it.

I'm pretty sure you're going to need root to use that method.
No root required to disable apps. However, to remove them, then the phone needs to be rooted.

Subject line of the thread linked says Root not required, but sure!
Tried it out just now, thanks for linking it @blkghost22, I've been trying to find a way to disable certain things and this did it!
Stock Music app sometimes comes up when I connect my phone to the car via Bluetooth, and there wasn't any easy way to disable it
I also recommend going to Filter, typing ATT, and disabled all that crap too - I've done everything except Knox, Remote Support, and Usage manager.... someone needs to come up with a safe list of apps to disable to debloat this device, it would be very helpful!
Will this let me disable stuff like the built in browser? Because there are some aid that the phone just won't let you disable which I find really dumb.

It should, I don't know the title of it from an APK or package standpoint (I know it's called Internet, but I can't find it searching right now), but once you find it, you can disable it
EDIT - SBrowser is the name of it

Okay, I can't read. I'm sending thanks X 2 to Charlotte, NC.
I'm at 55 apps disabled so far, and I don't think I'm being all that aggressive with disabling TW / Samsung / ATT features..... Anyone know of a good safe list for this phone yet where we can really speed this thing up? Not like it really needs it, but there's lots of hidden crap on it running we know about but haven't been able to disable previously

Honestly, and I appreciate you looking to me for advice, I don't think I'm the best one to go off of, I know that nothing I've disabled was going to crash my phone, but it's all that TW / Samsung / ATT features like I was saying - the program allows you to filter by text used, even if in the middle of a package name, and that helped a few times tracking down some odd APKs
I read on Forbes that the S6 has 56 apps of bloatware on it, and I'm at 55 disabled apps, with a lot of TW / Samsung / ATT features still running, so most likely that was a list of what they could see from the app drawer or something....
Nothing from me. Just wanted to see if people actually tried it. If it worked then go thank the dev or programmer of that debloating app.

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.
