[Q] I9000 black screen after boot up - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My I9000 juz crashed when I tried to open Dolphin Browser HD. And somehow I tried a button sequence of power buttion + home button to see if the reboot method on iphone works on I9000. My i9000 ends up not responding (black screen)after the welcome screen when I restart it. It's still the same even if I try to reflash it with oden and wipe user data
When I go to recovery mode, the media update couldn't go through with the following warning message :
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcdlk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI me nu for formate and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed.
Is there any solution to this problem?

Does anyone know?
Is my phone bricked?

push

i got the same problem. tried to update using kies and now my phone is black after boot. help?

I had similiar problem, phone loaded up, only black screen and notifications.. i couldn't do anything
After messing about, its my internal sd.. and it won't mount -- from BELL
So its DOA and i need to send it in.. problem is i have a custom rom.
Can i just send it in?

I dont know, custom rom if they look they might say your out of luck, but if the SD is bad then maybe they cant tell? Man i dont know.

I flash a custom rom too, so I'd want to see if there's anyway I can solve the problem myself before sending it back to Bell

Use odin to flash the stock FW, the phone is bricked had this problem twice nothing you can do but get it replaced. Call bell tech support tell em you were trying to update and now the phone wont boot.
Basically the internal memory is damaged. Nothing i know of will fix it.

Galaxy S stuck on boot - can't access internal SDCARD, help!

I'm having a major problem with my galaxy s I9000. I havn't installed any lag fixes or unofficial firmware, just apps from the app store. I was just using my phone, on the web downloading a movie file, phone locked up, i powered it down and now i have this "Cant access SDCARD" errors, even when trying to factory reset from the Android system recovery menu. I'm pretty upset, just got the phone a month ago. My phone now hangs on a blank screen after the galaxy s logo, lights on, I can access the download screen and have tried flashing the latest official firmware tonight with odin....this did not fix any problems still hangs on a black screen after the galaxy s logo when booting, and gives me the same error, "Can't mount SDCARD" in red text below the regular recovery options after the firmware installed succesfully (at least according to odin). Anyone have anymore ideas about the internal sdcard getting messed up? how can we format it or wipe it clean when we can't access it?!? please help!
take it easy. thats why products have warranties...because sometimes components fail. i am sorry it happened to you but you might just have to send it in for a repair. it can and does happen to all products at some point or another
if your 3 button download mode works
you can try using the repartidion option in the Odin3 meanwhile flashing a JH2 ROM
Thanks for the ideas fellahs, I did try to reflash with odin and repartition checked, I've looked alot into this problem and can only conclude that my internal sdcard is borken. no matter what i do , even after what looks like a successful flash, the phone boots into recovery mode with the same red text under all the options every time, "can't access SDCARD". I'm currently waiting for my local retailer to get them back in stock so i can make an exchange , I got suckered into the protection plan at Futureshop but perhapes this is one time it may actually come in handy, I just hope it all goes smoothly and i can get a new phone, although it dosent give me much confidence that the phone is sturdy enough to last the 3 years id like it too.
oh yeah, this is one of those times when the futureshop/bestbuy no hassle protection plan does wonder
they will exchange it for you no question asked
This happened to me too -- any way to fix it ?
I had the same problem, but I really need some files from the internal SD, and my phone wont boot at all, anyone ?

[Q] Phone not working after updates - vibrates randomly - screen remains blank

I got the SMS from vodafone that the Froyo update was available for my phone, and fired up Kies to run the update. Lo and behold, it wouldn't start. Tried to reinstall - that wouldn't work - installer failed.
Grabbed another laptop, installed Kies there, plugged in the phone - nothing - Kies didn't recognise phone.
Got to the point where Kies on the phone was restarting every second and not doing anything else.
After reinstalling USB drivers on computer, decided to do a factory reset on the phone, so did this - and then the phone won't start properly. It starts up but then I get error messages saying that TWLauncher has crashed and needs to restart.
Try another factory reset - nothing.
Decide I'm on a hiding to nowhere here, so progress down the ODIN route.
Download Odin and the various files, manage to flash the phone just fine.
When it restarts however - start up animation plays ok, then the screen goes blank and the phone starts vibrating randomly.
If I go into recovery mode, then I get a red error message on the screen saying
update media, please wait
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
copy default media content failed.
I've tried the wipe data/factory reset, the wipe cache partition, the format internal sd-card options - none work.
Any ideas?
I have a completely disfunctional phone right now ;(
Update: I found this posting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788850 and have resurrected my phone via the instructions linked to here: http://briefmobile.com/how-to-android-2-2-on-galaxy-s
So I'm now on JP1 - but am a little wary of upgrading to anything else!
What is the recommended way of doing so - ideally I'd actually like to get onto the Vodafone UK version of Froyo, purely for warranty purposes...
Well - decided in for a penny, in for a pound... went with another JPO install - it did the same weird black screen / vibrating thing, but when I yanked the battery and did another factory reset, it seemed to sort itself out.
Now I just need to find a lagfix/root that its happy with
Nice one, I flashed the cl kernel from xda developers it gives you root and 2e recover so you can use update.zip files. Need to fladh using odin but it's very easy just follow instructions. I them installed voodoo 5 pre 6 using update.zip, wonderful! Good luck

[Q] Random Boot Loop on SGS I9000

hey guys:
I have a problem that's killing me. Everything was fine on my phone, i had flashed to Darkys v9.2 had the speed mod kernel and the lagfixes working great until randomly my sms kept force closing and wouldnt load. I tried re-booting my phone and now its stuck in a bootloop. I tried flasing back to I9000UGJH2 with Odin and when i do it flashes fine and stops at the recovery mode first boot with the following message:
format_vfat_device -> argv[1] : -F
format_vfat_device -> argv[2] : 32
format_vfat_device -> argv[3] : -0
format_vfat_device -> argv[4] : android
format_vfat_device -> argv[5] : /dev/block/mmcb1
k0p1
run_program: child excited with status 1
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
copy default media content failed
After that i hit reboot system and it goes to the SGS boot animation and then to a black screen. My touch screen buttons(taking about the home and back) still light up when i touch them but its just a black screen. I can get to recovery and download mode but cant seem to fix the problem. If i boot to recovery mode it gives me the same message.
So i said screw it and tried to flash to I9000XXJPY. This worked but after it flashed it tried to boot but got stuck in a boot loop. I can still get into download mode but not recovery mode. So right now I'm stuck between a blank screen and a bootloop. If anyone has seen this and has any type of solution it would be much appreciated. Im in Canada and through sasktel. I really need my phone and im willing to try anything. im pretty computer literate. To me it sounds like there may be a problem with my internal SD card, but im not a doctor. Im fairly new to the SGS and i really like it. I've searched the forums and cant find a similar problem out there. I may have missed it, If there is allready something out there please let me know.
Edit 1:
Is it possible that there is a problem with my motherboard?
JH2 is 2.1 & Darkys 9.2 is based on 2.2.1
Whenever I have had problems with any ROM including boot-loop I always flash JPU (2.2.1) via ODIN with re-partition checked regardless of having any lagfig disabled or enabled.
Or you could try Darkys Resurrection ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671
i tried that but no dice. i re-partitioned and flashed back to JPU but no dice. its still stuck in a boot loop. Does anyone know where i can get the original BMC 2.1 firmware or if that would help at all?
Help
Please someone help! Im still stuck in the boot loop. Im pretty sure that i've got a redundancy but not sure how to get rid of it. I've flashed all over the place and done a re-partition with the PDA, CSC, and the 512 pit file for JL2. Im still stuck in a boot loop and i really need my phone. Anyone have any other ideas?
I'm having the same problem, i tried to instal gingerbread on my phone but failed so i went back to froyo, when i finished rooting froyo it rebooted and i can see the S logo flashing and then the screen goes black and the phone just vibrates every 15sec or so. If anyone can help just tell me what to do. Thanks.
im having the same problem with my sgs and i found this while i was looking into the forums. some guy seemed to have the same problem and some how he managed to fixed it. this is his post and im quoting:

Can't say exactly what I did but here it goes. I may have done these things more than once today so you may have to run through this procedure a couple of times.
- Flashed JH2 with repartition and pit 512. (Stuck in bootloop)
- Flashed JL2 with Repartition and pit 512. (Boot to S Screen now)
- Flashed with SpeedMod 12
- Boot to recovery mode
- Format every partition
- Flash to JH2 with repartion and 512 pit. (Back to boot loop)
**** Heres where it was different***
- Flash to JL2 without repartion or pit
Booted up and working.
I know, sounds sketchy, but I must have reflashed my phone with 10 different firmwares today.
After I got it booted up I flashed it with Darky's 7.6 ROM. It gave an error at first about the data parittion but it repaired itself after running lagfix and changing to ext partition.
I may recomend to flash with Darky 7.6 and apply lagfix to rebuild the partitions and see if it fixes this issue right away.""
im not that into these kinda stuff i just want my phone working again. u guyz give it a try and if u succeed using this plz plz plz lemme no how u did it. or if u did it with a different method or something plz lemme no. thanks
Possible Eureeka!
I think i may have had an apiffany. The bootloop, from what i understand, is caused by a redundancy in the boot sector. I think what you may have done is by flashing the new speedmod kernel and formatting the partitions you may have eliminated the redundancy. That's what i think may have happened. If I'm wrong please correct me. I'm fairly new to this but I've done a ton of reading and research. If I'm wrong please let me know so that i can try and figure out what worked. I'm running into another problem now. I think i may have re-partitioned one to many time. Does anyone know a way to re-format the internal SD without being able to get into recovery mode. Ive lost that ability now. Its completly stuck in a bootloop no matter what i flash to.
bootloader
i think another problem that may be causing this mess is that on a couple of flashes i had the update bootloader and the phone efs clear checked. Is there any way that that has an effect on my phone? if so is there a fix attached to it? Please help, losing hope fast.

[Q] Help HELP HELP My Nexus one need help and advice ://

i wanted to flash from gingerbread to miui
so i read i had to wipe my cache and i did
i wiped
*Cache
*DevCache
*SD:ext
*battery status
well you guy know the wipe menu on rooted phones so yeah
after i did that i reboot my phone
plug it to my mac and try mounting it
and it dint work my nexus said unable to mount sd card
so i cant flash a diferent rom
now in addition to that ever since that my phone on boot screen where the lock icon apears it gets this green pixel like rain and then it goes away and boots up then it takes me to the welcome screen but im unable to get response from the screen only track ball and buttons work
so yeah if some can guide me trough some advice how to fix this ill apreciate ask for more info if willing to help
you could try mounting sd somewhere else like on a card reader getting a rom u know works wiping everything and then flashing that rom onto your phone
Wo this is a weird problem.
Ok well the first thing is what can you boot into (ex: hboot, fasboot, recovery, system) and does either adb or fastboot connect or are all the connections to the MAC dead?
Do you have a card reader that you can transfer a zip onto the SD card with? What custom recovery are you using.
EDIT: Do you have a nandroid?

[Q] Boot Loop / Can't Install ROM - Advice Required

Hi,
Recently, my wife's phone started to boot loop, would eventually boot into Android but couldn't install apps etc. Anyway, tried to reset to factory and at startup, went into recovery mode with messages such as
E:failed to mount /dbdata (Invalid argument)
Can't access to '/system/csc/XEE/system/'
Doing a factory reset from recovery screen gives rfs format errors.
Anyway, next logical step in my mind was to try to install a ROM and pit file that I downloaded in case partition table was corrupted.
So to do this I used Odin / JVH_JV3_JPO.tar ROM / s1_odin_20100512.pit file. This seemed to install fine but unfortunately went to recovery screen again after rebooting so no joy.
Looks to me like onboard SD is damaged - thoughts?
I have a 16GB micro SD card in the phone also and would like to be able to use that to boot from. How can I do this? Bear in mind that the only 3 screens I can get to now are Recovery Mode / Download Mode / Boot loop.
A similar scenario appears to be discussed here but some of the posts on that thread imply that the process has problems, there are broken links in the post etc.
So I suppose, what I want to know is - is my internal SD damaged? And what's the best approach I can take now?
Thanks,
Julian.
