Ive got a big problem, recently my old SD card **** out so i replaced it with a brand new one with nothing on it. Upon first boot nothing was loaded because obviously APP2SD puts everything on the SDCard, however not even market was loaded on the phone itself so it was impossible to even download anything
Now the big issue!!
In my stupidness i thought i would just wipe and reflash a new CM with the new SD card and see if that fixed everything.. However i wiped and then i realized i didnt have a new ROM on my SD card to flash back too!! so now when my phone boots it just boots to a black screen and nothing appears because there is no rom to run... my phone itself is wiped data/cache and my SD card is completely clean due to it being a brand new one
How can i get my phone working again? right now it is INOP as i dont have any rom on it whatsoever and it wont even boot, i dont have a microSD adaptor to put it on my computer with and load a rom on it
is there some failsafe way to get it back to stock firmware incase something like this happens?
This should be in the Q&A section.
But,
What recovery do you have?
[edit]
oh right, drop into terminal Alt+x, type ums_enable and connect your phone through usb and copy over the rom and Amon Ra's latest recovery.

You could try posting in the right section.... or you could go to recovery, drop to console and type ums_enable- then connect your phone and move a rom over

Go buy an sd reader. Or if you have aman ras recovery you can set it to go to usb fro the recovery menu.
first - wrong section
second, if you have a custom recovery - go to the shell and type
ums_enable with usb plugged in
inop
You need a card reader and the ra dream recovery and you would of fixed it
Wow all of you said the same thing?
And repeated it
Even ^ copied the rest of you by saying got rec mode.
ur first card prooly didnt go bad, u prolly didnt flash the ext-fix from cm..correct? thats what happened to me and i then realized my sd was fine, i was also stuck at the g1 screen b4 i flashed the fix. also from what i read all u did was wipe so ur rom is still there, see if u can grab the old card and getter dun. and stop being a jackass and post this where it goes!!
Post in the correct section, next time, please.
Moved.
Hi all,
I downloaded the modaco update-nexusone-FRF50-signed.zip, and flashed my stock 2.1 (out of the box) nexus one rom, it worked well for about 9 hours, i plugged it into my car charger and when i took it off, it froze, and the touch screen disabled. Now im trying to reflash the rom and keep getting stuck at E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1, then E: Can't mount SD card
Any ideas on how i can get this working again?
Thanks
reinsert your sdcard, I have issues where the sdcard doesn't sit properly. This is assuming your using a2sd
i have a few times, same thing keeps happening, is there anything else I can try before I chalk it up to hardware malfunction and send it in to get a new one.... i reaallly dont want to do that
im also tried different sd card, and none of them have worked.

Well..... I wouldn't consider it to be a hardware malfunction yet.
1. Have you tried a non-apps2sd rom, like Stock Froyo
2. Have you tried completely reformatting your SD card on your desktop, while using a MicroSD to SD to USB converter or something of that sort. You'll need to delete all the partitions as you won't be able to see the EXT partiton in explorer, use disk manager
3. Have you tried using a different SD card?
4. Maybe you should completely wipe all the device in fastboot, maybe something is screwy, maybe even reinstall your recovery image
Try these things, then come back with results. We can diagnose issues after some of these troubleshooting techniques
i haven't tried formatting the card, but i have tried other cards with the update.zip flash, do you have a link to the stock froyo file
i think the problem is that the one i downloaded wasnt legit, and i have wiped the device in fastboot, the problem is that something is wrong with the touch screen, when it relaods from rebooting, it will get to the touch the android welcome screen and wont register any touch screen input, only volume up/down, trackball, and power button
okay, i tried formatting the sd card, and putting the update.zip file on it, and the same error occurred, when i tried to flash in recovery mode.
any update on what i can do to fix this?
Flash the original recovery image. You can find it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614057
You would do this through fastboot. Its easy, try that out
how do you do it through fastboot, i've only flashed through recovery

Put the img file on your sdcard, boot into fastboot, it should automatically check for the image and you should get a prompt asking for you to continue installing the image
no luck, it doesnt search for the image. When i enter fastboot, it just shows four options: bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, and power down

Then I would say something is faulting with your SD Card or your SDcard slot. I would try and take a very small ammount of rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to the contacts of your SD card, but there is no way to get into the slot without damaging it. If you have to do a warranty replacement just state that yes your device is bootloader unlocked but you're a developer and it is necessary to unlock in order to better serve the android platform
aah Yet another boot loop problem .. i was flashing cyangen from an now i am stuck in boot loop i have tried holding down power+n+volume up that got me nothing .. i tried boot able disk of Cr the screen just stays blk . i can hold down n to get into recovery but i cant do much from that point. it wont go into recovery it will just say loading ... i cant get it to boot another else from there except normal boot which just bring me back to boot loop .. can anyone help me out or point me to something that i haven't tried yet ?? thank you
are you saying you can't book up from a cwm recovery disc? That's really odd considering that it defaults to SD boot first, unless you changed the boot order or something.
Yes that's what i am saying ..when i put any sd card in it , it wont boot at all .. it seemed odd to me too .. no i didn't change anything i dont know how too.. any idea's how to fix this ???
Sounds like you need to make another CWM recovery sd card. It might have gotten corrupted or something.
You've booted with it before, I assume?
Hmmm maybe i will give that a try .. no i haven't booted with one before .. i had honeycomb on there before but it wasn't booted from the card it was booted off the main memory .. is one CR better then the other ?? do i have to have anything else on there ?? i have been searching around but i haven't seen anyone with my problem yet ..
you need to make a bootable clockworkrecovery sd card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987735
Then you can find the Rom you want to install, stock or otherwise.
when i try to write the image it says error the current format is not supported by the disk drive I:
it will re resized.
disk is not empty all data on your disk will be lost !
do you want to continue ?
now i picked 4 gig one ... i click on yes it starts for 1% then the bar disappears.. i am guessing it's done but when i put it in my nook it wont boot ..
Did you format it to fat32? I don't get that error about current format not supported by disk drive I.
Maybe you need another image writer.
what should i have formatted it to ??
should be fat32
I had this problem before. Just download the latest HBOOT With clockworkmod and place it in ur SD card labeled PM1CD3, or something like that.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
There is a Hotboot for nook ?? i thought that was just for HTC ??
Ok i can get into boot menu which really doesn't do much it i can pick boot from sd card internal etc normal recovery an alt boot .. but once you try an change anything it will just say loading an nothing will happen at all .. Now when it boots normal i can hold pwer+N + vol - an it says going into recovery but it never does .. it just reboots .. when ever i try one of the boot able cards, nothing happen i cant turn it on at all ....
is there anything i can try from plugging it into my pc ??
Anyone have any idea's i have been trying to figure this out with out much luck .. if someone could point me to some help or anything at this point it would be great ... thanks ...
i've tried everything on the net, it still keeps continuously looping. It would initially go the home screen and start doing the memory scan and i'd have access to the screen and then all of a sudden restart.
then i did a factory reset by going into the recovery mode, now it loads up and asks me to fill in my details like a new phone, when it reboots again.
what else is left to try, i cant even access my data on the internal sd card as the stupid thing wont stay on long enough to copy my data over through usb. As it keeps booting within 10seconds of loading the home screen.
i can access recovery mode and download mode.
please help
P.S. is this problem with just the galaxy s or all android phones, as it frankly is ******** me off to the point i'm thinking of going back to my candy bar Nokia phones, instead of dealing with this pile of **** every few months.
P.P.S. i am on android gingerbread with voodoo kernal, both of which have been fine for the last few months.

If you have important data on your internal card:
goto recovery mode, then mounts and storage,
connect your usb cable, choose mount usb storage in the recovery (dont choose the unmount usbcard!!).
Now you can access your internal storage.
Also you can try to flash the semaphore kernel from the development section.
After that do a wipe data/factory reset from the recovery.

go to recovery>mount option> mount usb option and get your data ..
As fas as rom is concerned try to flash a stock de-odexed rom using odin . Might help
having tried flashing 2.1 (eclair) rom? with pit files
hope this works
cheers
Have you tried recovery/backup and restore and made a backup? Then I would remove external sd and simcard, back to recovery/storage and format the sd card. (this will wipe the internal card AND the external if it is in!!) Then remove battery, boot to download and flash a stock rom using odin, boot the phone, remove batt flash a kernel then flash your custom rom.
thanks guys, didn't know about the mount usb storage thing in recovery mode, at least my stuff is safe.
Did 4-5 factory resets and every time it would stay on for longer before falling into the boot loop. as of last dozen hours or so it is working fine. (hope its not a hardware failure, but merely software, phones nearly out of warranty)
But if it keeps happening again, will take your advice, mount my phone, copy my stuff over and install another ROM.
happy and relieved chap for the moment.
well the boot loop is back, but some more info, this time it seems that whenever i try to turn on wifi or use wifi the boot loop starts. So long as wifi is disabled its fine.
From what i've read it seems to be specific to the three network rom.
anyone know of a stable rom, preferably the most stablest rom without any problems out there, that they can recommend?
or even better, if better the stock default unbranded goodle rom for this phone without any network changes, that wont give me any problems?
all i wanted was a simple fast phone without any problems, might be forced to go to the dark side and buy an apple if this continues.
Hello,
first of all sorry for my bad english. I have a problem with my phone and really need your help.
So, what happened:
yesterday I installed baseband 521 V20s and Django Manouche custom rom. I didn't like the rom very much so I decided to move on an another rom. I chose ParanoidAndroid 11. I installed it from CWM, like it should be installed, but then I got a problem. The phone stucked on boot animation (image of paranoid android in the middle of the screen and little androids falling down like raindrops). And nothing happened for 5-6 minutes so I pulled out the battery and turn on again a phone. Then I got message that goes something like this: "optimizing applications" and when it finnished, I over again got boot animation and nothing happened. I waited for 10 minutes, and then finally the boot animation stopped and screen went in black. It respond to touch (soft keys got light when I touch phone), but black screen doesn't disapere.
So, what to do? I didnt do nandroid backup, I erased Django rom from internal sd card so I cannot flash back to it via CWM. The PC doesn't recognize the phone any more so I can't put new rom to internal sd card. I did, however, manage to put the rom to external SD card, but in CWM recovery, it says that "Can't mount sd card".
What should I do??
I hope that you understand my description of problem and that you can help me.
Easiest way is to boot into CWM. Under "Mounts and Storage" choose "Mount USB Storage". You should be able to copy a new ROM to the internal SDCard from your computer.
If that does not work, search this forum for guides on how to use "Smartflash" or "NVflash".

Reflash ParanoidAndroid after a full wipe (cache, system, data, dalvikcache) without flash other kernel or gapps. Then reboot it should work

When I do that in CWM, Windows ask me to format card. What should I do?
@Gjot
Unfortunately, that didn't help me.

Try a factory reset in CWM. (Or wipe /data and /cache).
This should hopefully fix your boot loop.
And when windows asks you to format the card then do it.
Could be that it got corrupted (which would be the reason why CWM can't mount it).
You will loose all data on it, but it looks lost, anyways.

What options should I choose? What "File system", "Allocation unit size"? If I use default options (Fat and default allocation size) Windows pops up this message: "Windows was unable to complete format."
Should I try with another sd card?
Anyway, I did some research and find out that I could use adb to push rom to the phone. But, I stuck there also. I finally found out how to open adb (and even what is it) but when I use command "adb devices" to test if it works, I got "List of devices attached" and nothing else
I know that problem is in drivers, but I dont know how to resolve it.
I finally solved it.
Thanks to PaulOBrien and NVflash.
Now I'm back to froyo and have unrooted device but it works!!!!
