Hi,
I have just picked up a new phone - I am new to Android - and the previous user was into his Android-mods.
I am trying to reset the phone to original factory settings.. or at least all the email accounts/data the previous owner had set up. I don't mind the extra tools so much as I will probably learn a lot more about them over time.
I've had a play and a bit of a search and found out that ClockWorkMod is installed, I just wondered if anyone could tell me how to do a clean reset of the phone with this application.. I have tried the factory reset option in the CWM menu (Holding Up and Home whilst powering on) but with no success. The option in Settings of the phone is unresponsive. I am guessing I have to reflash the phone somehow?
Sorry if there is an obvious answer - but I have done a search!
Thanks,
Dave.

I installed it yesterday via Kies. after finished, it told me to reboot then I did, When I turned on the phone, it just started as normal with flashing S logo.
10-15 seconds later the screen turned black and the menu and back buttons lights on with a vibration sometimes.
I just cant use 3 buttons to get into any modes or use CMD to get into it. I just bought it last week and never installed any ROMS in it.
Any help, please?
I've had some issues after Kies upgrade... my apps kept crashing and not responding. I think I even had the same problem like you. All I did is a factory reset. Go to Settings -> Privacy and under Personal Data you'll find Factory data reset. Try it. Be carefull before doing a factory reset, try backup your data (phonebook, contacts, messages etc.) Hope it helps
I cant even get into the phone. got stuck at the logo..
the phone will auto reboot... how come you have to reboot it yourself?
I think that this problem has already been discussed before, but I could not find an answer. My skill level is too low...
My TAB is a Hong Kong Retail version, which is unlocked.
After successfully rooting my TAB using Z4root, I installed BootStrap for EURO TAB and then I could successfully install Paul’s Modaco R1 version. I did not experience any problems. Then I installed Richard Trip’s Kernel, and I am not sure if something went wrong (or was already wrong), but somehow I could not get access to the Market anymore.
So I decided to reinstall Paul’s ROM using ODIN, but somehow after a successful start, there was a red FAIL. I guess i probably used the wrong setting and fell into the protected boot trap? I tried to get into the boot mode again, but could not get in.
After many tries to get into the boot mode, I now have:
If connected to an adapter: there will be a phone+triangle+PC error message. Sometimes this message will stay on as long as the TAB is connected to the power adapter.
Sometime the phone+triangle+PC error message will get flash slowly.
I tried to leave it overnight and then charge it and get into Boot mode, but no success.
If I try to attach the TAB to a PC or Notebook, nothing will happen. Nothing will happen even after several hours.
So … what is the best way to solve this problem? Please help.

I did a hard reset and it worked...
Samsung Galaxy Tab: Steps For Hard Reset
by Mitch under Android, Hardware
A hard reset will reset the Samsung Galaxy Tab back to factory default settings. You would perform these steps if you want the device prepared to sell or return to the store, but you may also want to perform a hard reset if there are problems with the device that you can’t seem to solve using any other method.
Note: These steps clear data from the device. SD card data like your photos and music are not erased unless you choose to format the SD card.
1. With the device off, press and hold Volume Up and Power.
2. Release the Power button when you see the Samsung logo, but continue to hold Volume Up until the recovery screen appears.
3. Use the Volume buttons to navigate the menu and select wipe data / factory reset. Press Home to choose the selection.
4. Press Volume Up continue.
The Galaxy Tab should then go through the hard reset process.
If you have access to the OS, you can also perform a hard reset in Settings.
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Select Privacy.
3. Choose Factory data reset.
Hard reset probably won't work as it sounds like a bad flash... Any OS you flash will replace your stock OS which is why people say to backup EVERYTHING...
Right. A hard reset (if it works) removes user installed apps and their data. It won't restore anything, but it should return any user-made settings to the default.
Its been happening for about a day now. almost all of my apps arent working, i get that unexpectedly blah blah error on market, google framework, browser, gmail, tweetdeck, music, etc.
Tried restoring it to factory settings via settings>privacy,(...) tried volume up + power, restore, tried NVflash restore, tried flashing another rom and everytime it goes back to my old settings.
the only thing that remotely worked was booting into safemode and trying to uninstall apps, but once again after rebooting it goes back to my old settings.
please help, call me a noob if you will

Have you tried factory reset from the recovery screen? Not within Android, that factory reset should NEVER be used, it will brick your device or lock it in Read Only mode

I thin he may already be in read only. I hope I'm wrong . . .
I bought a DS7 off a fella that had tje same thing so I got it dirt cheap... sent it in and now waiting for it to come back... but once stuck in that only DELL can help you out my man
Long story short I messed up. I am having some major issues with my phone although I rooted it before ICS came out and used voodoo OTA to save the root, I do not believe it to be the rooting that is causing the problem. My phone is still under warranty and I have talked to verizon and if a master reset doesn't work they are replacing the phone. Heres my f'up I deleted titanium back up and super user without first defrosting and I can not find "master reset" option on my phone. I assumed it was in device set up but not sure. I had device set up frozen before and the phone is still seeing all the frozen apps as frozen and it won't let me in. Titanium backup sees that the device is no longer rooted and will not work. Rooting the phone over again does not work, gives me a error "su cannot be loaded" or something similar. What do I need to do?
"Master" Reset
The master reset they are referring to is simply the "Factory Data Reset" option in the settings.
If Android OS is fully accessible, assuming you're on some version of the stock ROM, go into the "Settings | Privacy | Factory Data Reset"
You'll have the options of wiping the phone, the SD card, or both. The phone should be sufficient. once done it restore the phone to the way it was when you bought it, this usually removes all data, including apps / texts / contacts / pictures / videos / etc.
If Android OS is NOT accessible, you can also do this from Recovery.
With the device powered off hold down both volume buttons and then hold the power button until you see the recovery background image.
Release all the buttons. From this menu you can access the bootloader / recovery / whatever.
Once in recovery there will be an option for a Factory Data Reset.
Use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select.
If after the Factory Data Reset you still cannot re-root correctly you may need to try and manually flash BusyBox and Superser via the recovery from an SD card before attempting the root again, but once step at a time.
Let us know how it goes... and as a side note, while carrier reps can sometimes be helpful, they are usually salesmen and not techs; so take any advice from them the same way you would a homeless man dolling out financial advice. Gratefully, but skeptically.
So this is the deal:
I have an S Advance GT-I9070, with a non-functional Home Key. I have recently installed Lollipop onto it and found it too resource extensive and rolled back to kitkat, which was also draining the battery. So I decided to try
Light Jelly Bean v1.2. I followed the instructions accordingly:
3. wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik-cache, wipe system
4. install the zip file
Click to collapse
And rebooted, I got the Samsung GT-I9070 logo on and then, nothing. The screen goes blank. There is no responsiveness, the softkeys dont glow. Nothing. But I noticed that the screen gets warm, after like 20-30 minutes so I switch it off.
I have read about the Download Mode - Odin flash routine, which wont work for me due to the broken Home Button.
I have also read about the USB JIG, but I cant seem to find any cases where a Jig has been used on a S Advance, but I found one on S/S II, I think.
So, I would like to know:
1) Will a USB JIG work in this case?. If so, is it safe to do it without any permanent risk (like Hard Brick)?
2) Or, is it better to get the Home Button fixed? Or rather, the whole phone fixed( IF they really (can)do that, when the phone is in this irresponsive state. I don't mind spending a few bucks to get it back in condition)
Please post a message if you need more info. Thanks!
