[Q] Create my own Rom for my company? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have about 10 HTC Hero's with stock HTC 2.1 Rom. I just updated one of them with the Cyanogen mod 6.1 and added the google app and a few apps i would like my team to have. I would like to know is it possible for me to create a backup using Clockwork Rom Manager and deploy that to my other phones? The stock HTC rom get very slow and is starting to freeze.

[Q] Question on ROM

Hi there !
I got my first Android (HTC WildFire) so can imagine I'm noob to these. I rooted the phone everything works fine now. I tried the CyanogenMod 6.1.0 (Stable) for HTC Buzz it works great but the main problem is the Location services is not detecting my location(India). GPS was enabled. Then the next problem was HTC take atleast 5 - 6 mins to reboot everytime. The Live Wallpapers just says it's loading and I left there for 30 mins still no improvement. So went restore the backup before i installed the ROM. So I wanted to know is there a way to fix this so i can use CyanogenMod If not then could you suggest me a ROM that has HTC Sense in it. I really like the features.
Thanks in advance,
Shyam
If u want sense... stock 2.1, wildpuzzle 2.1 (more performance than stock but more bugs) or modaco's 2.2 are the way imo.
As far as non-sense roms none do it for me, I guess I'm a sense whore lol

Thanks Mate ! In your opinion which is good ROM without HTC Sense ?
I had a hero before wildfire and it was always between cyanogen and vanillainRom. I learnt then that I really love sense so since getting my wildfire I've stayed with sense based roms so I can't really say. Just nandroid and try I guess
even the most talented devs were noobs once... so there's hope for the rest of us!
openfire v2.3 has worked well for me, although im also looking for a 2.2 rom with sense that actually works

Yes, you can flash a Sense ROM over Cyanogen, but you MUST wipe before you flash it. The best Sense ROM out there right now is here. All the other good Sense ROMs are using Android 1.5, which is pretty outdated.
And if you have to flash a gapps package with the ROM you are using, you will not receive market updates, as far as I know. If the ROM comes with the gapps already in it, then you will probably get the market updates.
ok i ended up updating to cm6 r2 and i changed my mind about the rom. ill just use a theme instead. do you know any good themes that work look like and have the stuff that the sense ui has? like the animated weather flip clock and the curved launcher?

INCREDIBLE S sense 3.0?

Is there a way to get all the features of the 3.0 sense into my phone via ROM?
I have searched other places...some of them dont work on my phone. I am starting to think that there are alot of partial 3.0 roms out there
Am I right?
I seen a Youtube video where someone had pretty much ALL the features. I tried looking for it but cant find it.
Is there such thing?

Just install Virtuous Unity. It's a custom ROM ported directly from Sensation so with full Sense 3.0 features. Very fast and bug free.

please take some time out and read through these forums before you venture installing custom roms.
your statement above obviously shows you have not read much and this could damage your phone and/or the patience of certain members here
am sure you'll have all the answers you need if you do look around
You can also use revolution HD with sense 3.0 add-ons - most 3.0 improvements are there. For truly 3.0 experience, however, Virtuous Unity rom is better.
Help me pleae
ClockworkMod recovery wont let me in my recovery settings. In fact the second I go to it from ROM manager the screen goes black and then takes me to my HTC screen and just stays there.
Pressing the down volume button and the power button gives me the recovery option, but will do the same exact thing.
I cant even go back to factory settings.
I went to go flash this rom when it happened, I probably did it wrong but would like to just restore my origional phone/settings and just forget about this whole
flashing rom idea.
PLEASE help me. How do I get to my restore so I can go back to my old settings???
Use the latest 4EXTRecovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104765
ClockWork does not allow latest ROM flashing
Thanks , got it figured out. Finally
Ohh thats why I wasnt able to flash it.. I found that out the hard way until someone told me about 4EXT. It worked like a charm

[Q] Upgrading to 2.1 stock (no custom ROM, not rooted)

So, I see that there is a 2.1 update for the HTC Hero CDMA from Sprint and I'm very interested in upgrading to be able to use some of the better software out there that doesn't work on 1.5.
The thing is, I finally managed to fix this phone from a bad rooting procedure (it's a used phone, the previous owner rooted it using who-knows-what method and ROM, which caused the wifi to stop working) after spending weeks on the problem and finally have a good, fully-functional phone. So, now, I'm a bit paranoid about any rooting or upgrade procedure, though I suspect and official update from a Sprint shouldn't cause a problem.
I'm also considering doing a basic rooting (no custom ROM) so I can boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and make a complete backup, but, again, I'm very leery about it.
Is there any possibility that rooting, in and of itself, could cause the wifi to stop working or was it that the specific ROM that was installed didn't have the right wifi driver?

Dude there are literally thousands of people running custom roms flawlessly ....taking that in to consideration, what do you think the answer to your question is? Lol for liability purposes we all have to say "there's a risk" but my 11 year old sister rooted her evo and flashed cm7 without any help

Fair enough, the custom ROM that was used must have been a crappy one.

Well we've had some that had broken wifi long ago but really you probably just could've flashed a new working kernel over it and the problem would be gone. If you wanna stay stock-ish I'd recommend fresh 2.1 but if you wanna really see it fly flash kush-deck gb. Flash the. 29 kernel after you boot and you will never regret it

Thanks, I'll check those out sometime. Have you got links for them?
Believe me, you don't want the stock Sprint 2.1 on your Hero. It's terrible. Super slow and it freezes constantly. I ran it for a short time after Sprint released it and that's when I decided to root. If I remember correctly you also can't put your apps on the SD card with it which really limits how many apps you can install.
I am running CyanogenMod 6.0 Froyo with ADW Launcher (built into the Rom) and its snappy and reliable but still has a lot of the bells and whistles. Try Beautiful Widgets and you can have a homescreen clock with animated weather just like the HTC Sense homescreen.
I tried CM 6.1.1 recently (updated froyo with new features) but it used more internal memory than 6.0 which made my phone laggy.
Be sure to get the appropriate Google apps zip file with the new Market

what's 2.1?
Android Eclair. 2.2 is Froyo

I managed to find some of the software I was looking for and I'm actually pretty happy to run 1.5; I actually find it quite usable.

Newbie but rooted, just a couple of questions :)

Hi, I'm new here and new also to rooting etc.
I have successfully unlocked and rooted my M7 and using TWRP recovery.
I am under the impression you can't update OTA when rooted, I would like a standard ROM with sense 6, but I just have a couple of questions....
1. Could someone supply a link to the best stable Sense 6 ROM suitable for an unlocked UK M7?
2. Could you also explain how to install the ROM using some not too technical language
Thanks for your help
Ben

I cant tell you much as I am using Miui rom and i have killed an M7 a while back but Viper ROm is the best I have used and that is Sense 6. Bare in mind I have not used a Sense 6 rom at all but last Viper i used was 5.5 and it was great.
There is Android Revolution HD, im not sure if this is Sense 6 but is is a custom rom as close to stock that you can get.
Just download the ZIP and enter your receovery and flash, it is simple as. Just dont wipe internal SD card..

So I download the zip file on my computer, where do I save it on my phone, bearing in mind it doesn't have an SD card?
Thanks for your help by the way
Sent from my HTC One
Just place it on the internal memory of the phone. Don't put it in any folders. Then boot into TWRP, select "Install zip from SD card" (the internal space paritition is labelled as "sdcard" due to the way android works), find the zip and install it.
Awesome, I guess I don't delete the original ROM then?

You would be well advised to make a back up of your original rom first. If something goes wrong you can go back to it, may be hard to find it on the web if you dont.
Best advice. Do a nandroid backup of your Rom now and try a few different ones. Personally I like android revolution hd. If you are going to try that use twrp 2.6.3.3. It doesn't like other versions very much

All done and appear to have no problems so far, using Renovate SixthSense Milestone 2.3.0
Thanks for your assistance and suggestions

Well, I have been using Viper One which is super stable and has got a lot of tweaks... Worth trying. The other one is the InsertCoin ROM

I know you've asked for sense roms, but I would definitely give some aosp roms a try. I've always liked aosp better. That said, it seems like development for this phone leans more towards sense based roms and definitely sense kernels. Only a couple of aosp kernels to choose from. I'm new to this phone (switched to Tmo a couple months ago and didn't want to buy a new phone on payments), but I was disappointed to see that after being out for a year the aosp development was somewhat lacking.
