Hey guys,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S yesterday and loving the transition from iPhone to Android.
After talking to some android experts on a IRC, i have been able to install Android Froyo 2.2. The latest version. I have installed Odin and Voodoo Lag Fix. I have used quadrant and compared results before installing odin etc. I am not a root user currently and don't know how to be one on 2.2.
Now I want to install custom themes and icons. But I have no clue what to do. Like no idea.
I want my SGS to eventually look this.

I am really into designing and will want to eventually create my own skins so I am taking baby steps, and want to first learn how to install other peoples themes that they have made etc.
Looking forward to all your answers.
Thanks
Looks to me like they're using launcher pro.
The first one would be the hardest to get because you'll have to change the icons one by one using an app found in the market called desktop visualizer. It allows you to place png files (pictures) as icons and assign a certain task to each one along with renaming them. They're are also using fancy widget for the clock or beautiful widgets. The status bar on top is most likely changed by a rom or theme.
The second one is very easy. All it is is launcher pro with it's dock icons (icons at the bottom) changed out. With wallpaper found in many wallpaper apps. A custom clock most likely found in the market and custom text clock and percentage widgets. Check out clockr if you want a text clock.
The third one again appear to be using launcher pro. Which by the way a home replacement app. Extended control app for the toggles. digital clock app found int the market. And a custom status bar.
I currently using have a G2 and I'm on cyanogenmod rom which allows altering aka customizing your status bar.
i don't proof read my post so forgive or my spelling and grammar.
You best bet to finding out the exact apps are going to the vibrant forums and looking for the huge homescreen picture thread and asking for help or asking with widgets they used. I'm sure if you'll find alot more answers there.
Edit: Better yet. Commonly used widgets.

hi all i am new and was wondering if i can install the fresh rom and replace the sense launcher with the nexus one launcher and lock screen while keeping the htc widgets
but i have fresh rom and some sort of nexus like launcher and a white notification bar with the htc widgets
thx for help i have one last question wat do i need to edit the sense icons like browser and sms to the stock android icons
Those are not sense icons. You are using an application called LauncherPro. The nexus launcher was removed due to instability and replaced by LauncherPro. Unfortunately the current version does not allow for customization of the bar at the bottom like Helix does, but the dev said that he has a plan to do so and it will be out in the next release, which is expected in a week or 2. There are alternatives to the sense widgets and the performance increase you get from not using sense is so great I will never go back. Check out the pure widgets. If you have the newest version of Fresh that was released this morning, LauncherPro is already linked to the market and you should see any updates, but if you are running any other version, you will need to download the update from the market to establish the link.
no i am not using laucherpro
and wat i meant by edit sms broswer icons i meant from the actual apps not the icons on the bottom bar but the actuak icon of the app
I believe application icons are packaged as part of the APK so you would have to edit those manually. I don't have much experience with that, but you might have issues because I am pretty sure the signing process for an APK includes a hash, so modifying the internals would probably invalidate the signature therefore cause android to puke, but you could give it a try.
Is there any way with Launcher Pro or ADW to get the stock clock from 2.1 that has the location and date on it? The one I like is the one that turns from black to white for night and day and has the date in the middle and location on the bottom.
I know, it's silly, but I've gotten used to the clocks that come with the Slide and I want to use them on my Launchers.
Thanks!
I am interested in the stock clock as well, but only to get the stop watch and count down clock back (I know their are downloadable ones too). I thought I remember someone posting the apks for the stock clock a while back...
I mean, I really like LauncherPro and ADW but I've gotten SO used to that clock and if it's sitting in the stock ROM I don't get why I can't get to it via the launchers? I thought there would be a clear way to do this or that I'd at least have the same options of apps and widgets as I did on the Stock OS.
Are you using a custom ROM? If so, those ROMs ultimately control what comes on the phone.
No, I'm just using the stock ROM. I haven't done anything to my phone. I simply don't see the same set of widgets as on the stock OS.
I guess it's my lack of knowledge then as to what the add-on launchers do to your phone...
No, I don't think it's you, I just think something coded into their software impedes access to Stock Widgets on MyTouch Slides.
Not sure if what you guys are talking about is the fact that HTC sense widgets can only be used with the sense launcher. That would be why if you install a alternate launcher all of the sense widgets such as the clocks are not there. There are some sense knockoff clocks and widgets on the market that can be used with other launchers. It is kinda like you cant use live wallpapers with sense launcher but if you install a alternate you can.
I think you just solved my problem. That makes perfect sense.
No I just gotta find a knock off of that day-night one with the date embedded into it.
Thanks
I want the Windows Phone 7 lockscreen for Android, I tried it with Typoclock but the font is too big and it's just not looking like the lockscreen.
The combination of the clock, calendar & "dock" widgets is just awesome. It should be possible to do the same on android isn't it?
And whats about the transparent statusbar, I know it looks creepy just as you start something else like launcher or any app, but isnt it possible to color it as you start an app?
thanks
I second this. I'd certainly cough up a cheeky 99p for this. If I can help with my little to no knowledge of app development let me know. (p.a. this should probably be moved to the general Android apps and themes forum)
No one else? Just tried Minimalistic Text Widget but the Font is too big and it's not looking like the Screen above. Any ideas?
Hello, you can try Widgetlocker ("to create a lockscreen") then put Pure Calendar widget and Mclock widget! That's all! Mclock is the only free one......

It'll be totally awesome if someone can make this lockscreen(the clock, date, notification,... and also the swipe up the whole screen to unlock), I really like the design of it.
Jepp and MIUI is using different notificationbars too. Like on homescreen its transparent and in apps its plain. I would so love to get the design with a totally transparent notificationbar and all the other stuff.
I've got to say, WP7 lockscreen looks very sweet, wish somenone made it for Android. The one on the black Nokia on the left seems really cool:
I have been looking for widgets likethis for ages but can't find anything as good as the wp7 ones
minimalistic text is the closest one but it's not as elegant as the wp7 one
Hi folks,
See, I'm considering making my own themes for my Motorola Defy with Launcherpro, and atm I'm researching for tutorials on how to achieve certain results, but one thing that's bugging me is the default icon size of android. It seems to me that there's too much wasted space in padding between icons. I really like the looks of UI's like MIUI or even iOS in the way that you can actually have big icons to see, press or gloat about
Most solutions suggest using bettercut or Desktop visualizer, but it strikes me the fact that I must fill my desktop with widgets when all I want is just a shortcut. Also, these solutions don't apply to the app drawer, and it's a shame that we have acces to awesome icon packs such as Suave or AresHD and we must have them confined to 0.05 sq inches screen space.
Can this be done by fiddling around with framework.apk or is it much more difficult?
Thanks guys!
Use ADW Launcher. You can change the columns/rows in both your desktop and app drawer.

And if you like it, I highly suggest upgrading to:

Isn't there any NON-Launcher dependant way to do it? I mean, as far as I know the icons are arranged in a grid pattern be it one launcher or another. What I'd like to know is if tere's any way of altering the "padding" in the grid spaces.
Anyone?

bump!.....
It's launcher dependent.
If you're savvy enough you can decompile your ROM and build it as you see fit.
First, I dunno if this is the correct subforum since I'm not allowed to post in a modding forum.
The standard clock widget that comes preloaded on the Xperia Z is great, except that it has got too thin text; I can't see the clock in the mornings and it's causing me massive eyestrain to concentrate.
I've tried SEVERAL other clock widgets but either they're not compatible with an easy-to-set-up alarm, takes too much space, or is displaying other stuff than the clock it self + stupid adds.
So what I'm asking here is someone who knows how to edit this widget to have a bold font where it's easy to see the time in the mornings.
It's the specific clock displayed in all xperia Z photos:
I assume, that once the widget has been located as an .apk file it will be super easy to make a bolder font. If no one wants to make this for me, I can do it my self given that I get an explanation.
sorry but i think that needs developing and a developer will not programm a clock only for you unless you will pay him
Try other clock Apps or try a custom rom (but this needs more work)
Sorry dude
I don't want a new widget, I just want the standard pre-loaded widget to have a bold font instead of the current one.
I know that in the installed apps list, this widget is just called "clock", but it's impossible to find this widget as a download anywhere. That's why I figured some guys here could go into the root or something and find the widget, change the font and be done with it.
