My phone just fell into water!
I immediately took it up and when drying it the phone responded to the touch screens but then it shut down,
i took out the battery and dried it from the outside and now im doing it from the inside with the hair-dryer,
Any suggestion of how to dry it more?
dun dry it with hairdryer cos u may melt the solder or anything inside the phone. put the phone in an airtight container with rice and wait patiently! otherwise, send it to 3rd party people to help u clean

yes,
the most critical part was to take the battery out as soon as you got it off the water to prevent short circuit
don't rush it let it dry naturally at room temperature
hair dryer could damage the phone (but again we know the phone have survived the ove trick and hair dryer trick, so it should be okay)
take out all the parts, battery, cover, etc
if you are a technician open up the phone, and use compressed air spray cans, but watch out to not freeze the phone.
best results if you have an air compressor machine at home and use it to blow dry the phone
let it rest under the sun or a projector lamp for an hour and check to make sure there are no more water vapour trapped under the screen
once everything is confirmed dry, you can put it back together and hook up the battery, the phone should work back to normal now.
i hear throwing it in a bag of rice really sucks the moisture out.
As told, first step is ALWAYS to remove the battery and let it rest and dry for a period.
You can put it in a bag of rice (it absorbs humidity) and keep yourself from "testing the device" to ofter... let it rest for (at least) an 8 hours under warm and dry temperature in a bag of rice.
i put in a jar rice, and put the phone between the rice with the jar open,
I will keep it like that for 24 hours and hope that at the end it powers on. Is 24 hours enough? do i have to close the jar or keep it open?
Thanks for the support, I really need it right now
aww poor fella... i nearly dropped my phone in a toilet bowel once... imagine that....
Aw that sucks mate. As other have said putting it in a bowl of rice is ment to be a good idea as the rice absorbs all the moisture.

My old Omnia2 fell down (drawn) in a toilet and survided using the methods above. Give it time to dry... don't rush to test
heh, mine fell into a bathtub full of water... took me about 5 seconds to get to it, was getting the baby out of the tub.
No water inside or in the battery compartment, dried off the outside and went about my day, didn't hurt it one bit.
الحمدلله 24 hours later i tried to power it on after putting it in rice, and it worked! its like nothing happened, everything works!الحمدلله
Thanks of the suggestions and the nice replies guys .

You need to leave it off for a long time (days). Take it apart as much as possible, put it in a bowl of uncooked rice and leave it.
Given what you have said your phone could be dead already.

This. although there is a small chance it is salvagable.
I would leave it in rice and also if it's sunny, leave it in the sun.
Before you do this though, dismantle it as much as possible. Even if you have to unscrew some bits, it may help (careful not to do too much that you can't put it back together).
Also, resist the temptation and wait at least 2 days before trying to turn it on again.

It will very probably still get corroded inside and will lose its functionality. Cleaning the parts with distilled water is the best way to fight this.

Hah! I've saved a few devices this way (phone, audio recorder) and given this advice several times with success each time, but I *never* thought to explain to people that it should be *uncooked* rice. That makes for an amazing image of someone screwing up instructions.

so yeah..... (dont all you laught now) but i just droped my phone in the toilet *b4 pissing thank god*... and it shut off... i took out the battery ASAP... and use a hair dryer to dry it out.. now its under a fan blowing semi cool air....
did i just completly **** my phone.... im sure i did... anyone know of something 2 do..
please help... ive been without my phone for 20 minutes.. and molski is releasing his 3rd ed rom soon.. and i wont even be about to use it
I once had Kool Aid poured down a motherboard of an open computer case. A lot of cleaning and a day later, it still worked fine.
Is there hope? Sure. Are the odds in your favor? Probably not.
But since you already got your phone wet, you know your warranty is gone. My advice (it's worked for me before) is to take the phone apart carefully, dry it off completey, clean it with 90% isopropyl rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth, and then wait for it to dry again. Hopefully that will stop the corrosion and hopefully removing your battery immediately worked to your favor before anything shorted out.
Good luck!
help again
ok welll first of all.. ummm im not gunna say WHY, but my warrenty wont work period on the phone. next what do i use to take it apart??? i know not to even try to turn it on for atleast a day or two..... and drying under a fan right now... and what if i cant clean with with 90% whatever you said and a microfiber thing... cuz i wont be able to get that untill tomrrow
I highly suggest you open it and do as was suggested earlier. Same thing happened to me on my Nokia phone and the above procedure saved it. Goodluck!
well i just left it under a fan all night.. and tried it this morning and everything works fine.....WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You may want to seal your phone in a plastic bag with some instant rice or cilica for a couple of days. This will pull out any remaining moisture. If you did not take your phone apart I'll bet there's still water inside. If you don't get it out corrosion will set in.
Good luck
Phone wet - solutions
Well, I'm glad you saved your phone.
With all electrical equipment it's adviced to:
- switch it off ASAP
- the shorter it was on while wet, the less chance you have damaged it
- ensure that it gets completely dry
- a hairdryer can help, but at least open the phone as far as possible
- you can also leave it open on a warm place in the house, let the sun shine on it
- I would even let it dry for a few days
I must say, it also depends on the type of fluid. Salty water, coca cola, ice tea, coffee....these have a bigger chance to cause damage. If that happens, while switched off, clean a while well with just water to get to salt or sugar out. Then let it dry.
happend to my phone as well, after taking a piss (and flushing the toilet). I only opend the keyboad and lett it dry for a day on the heating. works fine [email protected] first the display was flickering quit a lot. but now, a week later... it's working as before.
heya guys,
today I was talking on the phone and the phone droped from my hand into toilet. I bring it out fast and removed the battery. I dont know what should I do now,. any advice!!!! will Vodafone accept it for waranty!!!
Usually for any electronic device, take as many bits out as you can an stick it somewhere warm for a day or 2, should get some if not all functionality back, I've dropped many things in the bath and had them back working again. Don't, however, try and power it on until it's had chance to dry out. The touch screen may be an issue though...not dropped any touch device in some water yet to test if the same rules apply....
Stick it in a bowl of (uncooked) rice, it'll help pull out the water faster.
whatever u do dont use any thing like a fan or blow dryer, cause that will just cause the water to go deeper into the phone, use a vaccum to suck the water out as much as possable, then like he said place the phone in a bowl of un-cooked rice for a day or two, good luck.
A little combo of what has been said: put it in a bowl of uncooked rice right at the counter where it gets a lot of sun (battery should be out obviously). The BIGGEST mistake you can do is test it out after a day when you "think" all the water is out. If it isn't and you turn it on, it could cause further damage. I know you're urgent to find out if it works or not, but give it three days with three days in the above conditions. You'll also probably need a new battery.
mp.goldfinger
will Vodafone accept it for waranty!!! - - -- no
Vodafone will not accept phone Warranty
The diamond has a sensor for water
Thanx guys......but I did turn it on today Bcause I really need a number everything is alright but the screens is still fuzzy. I wont use it for at least a week and see what will happend.
i hope you flushed the toilet before you dropped it.. =) otherwise there will be some.. sh*t inside the phone and its not easy to clean
yeah, definitely make sure its in rice, and sunlight doesn't hurt..
And the moral of this story
Don't take your phone out of your pocket when in the toilet.
It's also unhygienic.
Take care of your phone and your phone will take care of you.
I went to a festival where I was so drunk that my diamond went out of my pocket when I got ready to sleep in my tent. And next morning I fond the phone in a little water pool inside the tent. But all the functions still work after I let the phone dry for 1 day.
Uncooked rice (as been mentioned before) is the best solution.
Take your time, as been said before, it will take a long time before all the moisture is out.
Nowadays the chips are very small, water easily lodges between the BGA balls, and it takes a while to evaporate.
just leave it for a week in the bowl of uncooked rice (preferably on a warm sunny place.)
Remove stylus, back cover & battery before sticking it into the bowl.
It's not under warranty: it has a moisture sensitive sticker which turns red when it was in contact with water.
Because it isn't under warranty, I personally would take the device apart, and dry the parts seperately, but that isn't very easy if you haven't done this sort of disassembling before.
Revert to this only if you have absolute confidence (and the service manual ).
Best of luck!
Please keep us posted.
EquinoXe
The problem is long term, the moisture will cause corrosion on the fine
PCB tracks etc. even after its dry, Best thing to do is pull the device appart as best u can get a tooth brush and a can of CRC CO CONTACT CLEANER
blue and white can @ any good electrical wholesaler. spray all the circtry and componets not the screen. and scrub with a tooth brush dont knock
off any small componets and then let dry for a day or 2 best bet is to use compressed air to blow off excess liquid spray from under the chips..
I am in electronic repair hope this helps
This happend to my LG 2 years ago ...into the LOO and i done the process above and its still working today the quicker u dry the water off initialy the better..
thanx guys.....unfortunately I have to buy a new LCD for my diamond as all water has gone inside the LCD and damaged the sheets inside the LCD. I have removed all parts and I am waiting for LCD delivery that cost me 40£
Aww, that is unfortunate..
Hope the LCD transplant will bring it back to life.
I had almost the same issue, but in my case, what I did was that I droped some alcohol inside the power button when I was trying to clean the screen with a tissue and some alcohol. Now the power button works in a faulty way and it tries to reboot every time I click on it. It's like the single click is always a double click on the power button. Any suggestion on how to fix it? This happened to me like 2 months ago and it is still like this.

I dropped an iphone inside the toilet. It rang I went to pickup and it slipped out of my hands.
Apple replaced it though. They didnt even test if it was water damage. LoL
....and I might also suggest that you don't eat the rice later!
Aww thats pretty sick
Have done the same thing, about 2-3 years ago (luckly not with my HTC TD)
All the advice above is right about drying it out, but the main issue you'll have is impurities in the water which, once the water has evaporated will leave residue. The worst is actually salts. These will dislodge components in the phone, and usually it'll never be the same again. Often the water gets under BGA components that arent encapsulated, or between pins of components, and once the water evaoprates the salt cyrstals left behind expand into those gaps.
You can wash the pcb in distilled water, or certain alcohol solutions - depending on what residue there actually is. If you use normal water you'll just make it worse, because that has impurities in it too.
You could have done the same with the touchscreen, but you would need to dismantle it.
Sometimes you get lucky and it all works ok for months.. lets hope you're lucky
Kinda embarrassing, but I had the tablet on the water take and when I flushed it just slipped right into the bowl...
Power button isn't really working.. took the back off of it and have it laying glass up hoping the water drains out of it. Not like there is alot of water in it or anything just want to be sure. Hopefully their isn't significant damage, but if there is I hope I can RMA it..

RMA is for warranty repair only.
In your case, it's accidental damage which would/should not be covered by warranty.
Disconnect the battery immediately and let it sit in a dry area for at least a day. I'd even recommend hitting it with a hair dryer for 5-10 minutes. My daughter left her phone out in the rain, and when we found it, water literally poured out of the case. I took the battery out, disassembled it as much as I could and let to dry for a day. It survived and it working fine now. Keep in mind that most manufacturers place "moisture indicators" inside their devices. It's just a small paper sticker with tiny drops of red dye on it. As soon as water hits it, the dye runs and the sticker turns pink... and your warranty is void.
Sorry dude. Be more careful next time. Not sure what else to say.

ok, as a professional repair tech i can tell you that rice has a VERY low chance of success... it isnt as marvelous as everyone thinks it is. it wont absorb much of the moisture in the phone. i have seen numerous phones come through my shop after sitting in rice for days... STILL have standing water in them.
your best bet: if you have tools to take it apart, remove the board, and immediately put it in alcohol. if you have any residual corrosion on the board, take a VERY soft bristled brush and gently wipe the corrosion away.
if you dont have tools/a brush... take the battery out, and submerge the entire thing in 91% (nothing less) rubbing alcohol. you may ruin the lcd, but trust me, a new lcd is a far cry cheaper than a new phone.
also, your battery is likely toasted, buy a new one.
just as a caveat to all, unless you drop your phone in clean city tap water, or distilled water... its going to have contaminants in it, and will corrode your phone, rice or no rice. alcohol displaces the moisture, and removes chemicals/minerals on your board.

A server room should dry it out good.
This is going to sound pretty gross, was the toilet flushed? I recently repaired my HTC Hero that I had loaned to a friend, who then proceeded to drop it down an unflushed toilet
I dried it out, only to find it would not power up, not until I remove the pubic hair that was shorting it out
Just Something to look out for.
Just because the battery got wet doesn't mean that it's trashed. Tap water isn't that great of a conductor, so as long as the battery didn't discharge at too high of a rate from a short, it might be okay. If the battery felt very hot when you removed back cover, it's not a good sign.
As for the alcohol, I'd use it to clean the board but I'd hold off on submerging the whole unit. The openings on the Nexis's case are pretty thin, so I doubt much water got inside. I'd just let it dry and see if it works before doing anything drastic.

If it was on when you dropped (probably was) it might have shortened something in the circuit board, and that is why is not turning on, however there is always hope and I would follow the previous advices to disconnect the battery, hair dryer and rice of bag overnight before trying turn on again.
Good luck!!

If the digitize is $130 I would just spend the extra $70 and sell the unusable one as parts.

I tried to enter in recovery menu(Power up+lock+home) to reinstall software but i did a reboot recovery mode by mistake and since than i doesn't want to boot or either get in recovery mode. Can I do something? the screen now works just fine. I will need to buy another phone or to change some bits in it? Oh and when i put the battery in it automatically boots up get stuck 2-3 minutes on logo and it reboots. Please help me is there anything i can do?

Still have warranty then replace ,no warranty buy new phone. Next time happen like this you can take battery out and put the phone and battery into the bag of rice leave there for awhile.Rice will suck the water out
rule of law.. never ever put your battery back to power on your soaked phone.... it'll do much harm than good.. it might circuit your Note's motherboard in the process.....thereby the only thing to do if that'll be the case is to replace it.
what you should have done is to just.. yeah.. blow dry it... then I agree, put it on a vessel full of dry rice and and cover that vessel up. Leave it there for 1 week max... that should leave all water out of your phone, yeah rice sucks out the moists and dews off your phone.

no idea.. use a hair drier with low heat instead.. will always work better...
although i know that rice will absorb the water if its in contact with water and not the phone body itself.
The rice trick certainly works and is safer than using a hair dryer. Probably too late for OP though.

Here's the definitive guide if you drop any phone into water...
1. MOST IMPORTANT: The moment you get the device out of the water REMOVE THE BATTERY.
2. Gently shake out excess water.
IF IT FELL IN SALT OR FOUL WATER: put the phone (not the battery) in some clear, clean fresh water, swish it around a bit then shake it off. This is important because salt does very nasty things to electronics and you want to get out as much salt as possible.
3. Place the phone and the battery in a bowl of dry uncooked rice -OR- in a plastic bag with some of those desiccant packs.
DO NOT USE hair dryers, ovens, microwaves, etc.
4. Let it sit in the rice for at least 24 hours. Longer is better.
5. Remove, insert battery, then hope for the best.
Ok, I put it in rice lets see after a few days what happens. Thank you all!
Put it in a a bowl of rice, cook it then eat.. Just kidding..
Yes, that rice method works.. Saved my Xperia X10 that way...
But from what you have stated that you tried powering it up after an hour, that might have killed it.. (but hopes are still not lost)
In regards to burtcom's post, its better if you use pure distilled water to clean it.. that way, it would have 0% chance to further do some more short circuits in case there is still some charge left on the capacitors on the board.
Hy today I was going home on motorbike and my phone was in jacket pocket ( jacket is motorbike, waterproof, never questioned that ) and suddenly it started to rain and I had no worry cause jacket is waterproof and many time I carried phone in jacket while raining,no problem at all.
But guess what.I arrived home and pulled out phone from jacket and I felt water on TPU case and bottom of case was soaked.
Immiditealy I had heart attack that water found her way into phone electronics and parts and I pulled out battery, sim card and memory card and dried phone with hair drier.
Then I switch battery with replacement battery and started phone. After LG logo apperead I was happy but no so soon, then LG logo flickered after showing it as it should be and black screen on left part of screen and artefact screen on right ( like when your computer GPU dies ) and I hear boot sounds and going into homescreen.
My questions is should I try to dry more or thats pretty much that what I could do ?
Did digitizer died or LCD screen ? Could they notice if I take it to warranty the water indicator like on Iphone ?
Guys please help, give some advice,I'm going insane
Strip the battery from the phone. Put both in a bag of rice. Leave alone in the rice in a warm place for 48 hours. Try to see if it works. If not then there's not much else you can really do.

Thanks for reply, last time mom washed my Nokia 100 and after leaving it in rice for 24 hours water withdrawed and now phone worsk flawlessly like before.
As I sad, phone turns on,shows LG logo as it should be,I hear boot sound and then one half of screen is black and other half has artefacts.
So my question is what could be damaged ( cpu, gpu, motherboard, lcd screen, digitizer ) ?
After spending 12 hours in rice,my phone works and everything is fine except rear and front camera.
They dont seem to work, they show some kind of artefacts, then it turns for a short period time and laggs and they I get error App has crashed etc.
Should I carry my phone to phone service or leave it for 24 hours more in rice, maybe rice will dry moisture from camera lens/electronics or are both cameras completely dead ?

Personally I would leave it in the rice for for a couple of days at least. My old Sony Ericsson took 3 days in rice to get back to full working order following it's short visit to the toilet basin.
You only need the slightest drop of water in the wrong place to create a short, which will cause your phone to act erratically.
I have my fingers crossed for you :fingers-crossed:

I wont test out my luck anymore,I'm reliefed that phone even works,WiFi,3G,GPS,games,apps,screen works great only front and rear camera show artefacts and crash
is there any chance that rice will dry out moisture from camera and they'll work normally ?

---------- Post added at 08:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:25 PM ----------
my phone is accidently droped into a low level bowl of water face down.
almost 25% of phone dipped into water, and as soon as it contacted water i pulled it out and pulled the battery and sim and memory card out.
then i tried to dry it with hair drier for 10 mins,
then i started my phone and it started normaly, but after 1 minute while i was using it, it dimmed and gone to black screen, i instantly pulled out the battery again,, and yet i'm thinking what to do,
do i still have chance of rice trick?
i can't take chance on my phone, i'm not a rich person to afford this phone again
so please reply soon,
thanks

Put in in the rice you got nothing to lose.. But honestly, you made a mistake turning the phone on after 10 min. Rice will hopefully take out the moist.

but then i thought to be carefull and pulled out the battery and put it again in rice for another day...

If you live in a cold place, keep it in for atleast 2 days. Also stop powering your phone on, it will reduce your chances.Try to get it to somewhere warmer
if you ask me, you made a mistake when you tried to dried it with blower
when it drooped into water, then right away turn it off, battery out, sim and sd out
then try to collect water as much as you can with tissue
then put in on rice, basically bury it in it so that phone is surrounded with rice all around
leave it like that for 2-3 days
then try to start it to see if you had luck to get the moisture out
Rice is a bad idea.
It will dry but the water from everywhere contains salt and minerals.
It will rust everything inba short periodo.
Run to a repair store and they will dissasamble and proper clear parts.

ok friends, thanks GOD my phone is alright, not a single default in it,
working perfectly, it has been half an hour i'm using it with minimum 800+ processor frequency so that it generate some heat,
everything is wroking,
and i wanna thank all of you for replying and helping... rice is the best method for it.
thanks a lot,
Regards,
The best method is actually to use the desiccant packets that come with electronic equipment, but I'm lucky to get lots of them through my job in case I ever need them. Rice is the best thing that almost everyone has easily available.
I'm glad it's all working, quick action of normally the best bet.

a nice homemade trick to fix wet devices is, grab a container, half fill it with white rice, from a new package, and the put your device into the rice, of course without a battery and back plate, and the complete the container with more white rice, wait for two days and then, try to turn on your device, it will be completly dryed, i proved with several devices and always works again
yes, rice dried my device completely and I'm using it without any problem now
