I'm thinking of doing a factory reset (after backing up my documents) before upgrading to Froyo (through Kies) I've been wanting to clean up my phone for awhile anyways.
Will factory reset restore stock kernel/remove voodoo lagfix and colorfix?
No, it doesn't

Okay so how do I flash a stock kernel/where do I get it?

Hello friends
My Samsung Galaxy i9000b is no longer with the network service.
The problem started after I installed the ROM ICS 4.0.3 (teamhacksung and ONECOSMIC)
I tested these 2 rom, I realized that was not a good signal, I tried a few times and exchanging modem, but does not result.
So I decided to go back to stock rom 2.3.3 for i9000b.
My surprise now with stock rom has signal, but it is not possible to make phone calls or send SMS. The network 3g internet does not work anymore.
Since then I have tried to install the stock rom 2.2.2, with re-partition dbdata etc. With all wipe, format / system etc etc. And yet not solved.
To recap, the unit with stock rom 2.3.3 shows signal but can not connect to the network.
"In service
Selected network (live) unavailable "
I've tried to use another chip of my country and operator error is the same.
The imei is active in phone status.
Any solution or is it the modem of the device is dead?
sorry my english by google translate
thanks!
Sounds like settings issue. Check apn. Another user recently had a similar problem, turned out his carrier had disabled his data as some app had munched his allowance.
I had to bring in technical assistance to resolve. It really was a problem with the hardware. Internal memory specifically.
I have the exact same problems, with the exact same simtoms. I dont wont to take it to tecnical suport, isnt there an other solution.
Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Its done. I flash it again without the sim card all the way back from Eclair 2.1. After that the problem was gone. Now testing MIUI.
I´m sorry, the problem is back again, i have tryed everithing i can think about.
have u found the way to solve those problem?...seems happen to me also...every stock rom, every ics, cm9 i tried...got network for moment, then suddenly no service.no data...restart/pull out the battery, its ok again(but for temporary only)...clueless now
This could be issue with your modem. Please flash another modem using odin and check it. pick the right modem for your region/network.
Thanks,
Ajay
Sorry on the noob question but, I just bought a HTC vivid from a guy and he said the phone was rooted. How can I unroot it or how can I fix it so my att sim card works. The guy said it was unlocked and on t mobile so maybe the setting are messed up. It's on Android version 2.3.4 and htc sense version 3.0.
Same here
in the same boat except I am the one that unlocked the SIM. I used it with T-Mobile and am now trying to sell it. I met a customer at an AT&T store & tried multiple SIM's, but none of them worked. We reset factory reset acouple of times, but that didn't change anything. The weird thing is that when you put an AT&T SIM in the Mobile Network settings are grayed out. Take the card out and the settings are able to be selected.
Sorry to piggyback off this, but Idid want to add that I don't think it has much to do with the current version of Android you're running.
Under mobile data settings, APNs, push menu, restore defaults.

Resetting to default APN settings doesn't change anything in my case. After a factory reset there are no APN settings anyway. The issue I have is when an AT&T SIM card is installed, everything under Mobile Settings is grayed out. You can't select a network to register with and you can't add AT&T's APN or even reset for that matter.
Should I look into doing a hard reboot? Or does anyone know the codes to dial to get access to the radio (ex. ##12345##)? I read through the first couple of posts in the threads linked, but they don't really address the SIM issue. Sure, I saw the notes on APN's, but I don't think this is what is the base of my issue.
Thanks a lot for the links. I actually got it working last night, I changed the apn setting to say phone and it started to work. But I still want to return it to stock to install ICS. On the second link I use step six right to unroot it? And which ruu do I need, because I see like three for Cingular. Thanks.

In the SUPERGUIDE start at the very top, first paragraph. You need the RUU that came on your device If yours came with Gingerbread I would guess this one,but it is only a guess. .Download RUU_Holiday_Cingular_US_1.63.502.4_Radio_1.11.1020.03_30.77.551061.02L_release_221238_signed.exe from FileFactory.com
Thanks. But how do I know what software my came with.
Edit: yup it should be that one.
Is their any other link for the RUU download, it keeps failing for me.

i dont think thats the one i need, thats ics.
My bad , sorry
Just a thought, what would happen if I update my phone using the update option on the phone? Would it brick it or would it work?
Not sure on that but if it where stock it may ask you to upgrade to ics but I don't know.for sure .
Because I want to return it to stock to then install ics.
No matter what you do to it as gb if you run the stock ics ruu its still gonna be stock ics any thing you done as gb will not apply any more , only thing that don't change is s off
Thanks for the help. I finally was able to do it.

tried many times
I tried many times too, triangle away then flashing I9305XXALI9_I9305OLBALI8_SIN.zip for I9305 4.1.1 Singapore version, but still saying modified.
-When i checked with KIES, instead of flashing ROM from SIN (Singtel), its showing MM1 (Mobile 1).
Note: double confirmed my download of the said firmware
Initially it's showing Device Status: Normal but after a reboot of the phone, it shows MODIFIED.
So, this could be caused by the bootloader i believe. its using the new bootloader.
Can anyone please post a link to download the old bootloader of I9305 international
Thank you

How to check or change CSC on Galaxy S2 / S3
In your phones keypad dial *#272*Device IMEI#
-another popup dialog box will appear, just select your network provider and it will reboot and configure your device again.

dude i should say its my luck that i forgot to insert my sd card into my phone!!!it worked out for my everything is fine now thanks to u!!!!.....
Hi,
I have a n9200 Chinese version of the note 5.
I recently tried to flash a custom ROM on the device because I wanted to try nougat, but seems like most of the stable ROMs don't boot on the n9200 or something not working (2nd sim slot e.g.).
I decided to do a restore in TWRP of my stock rom.
However, the SIMcard isn't detected anymore.
"Insert SIM card" message appears if try to click on 'mobile data'.
I did a full restore of the rom, including radio, so shouldn't everything be as before?
I did also try to flash other ROMs, but the problem remains..
Do You have any advise of what to do?
Is it worth trying to flash the modem in Odin?
I assumed that it restores the modem if I do I restore of the radio in TWRP.
Ok. So I have done some research, and I came up with two possible causes to this problem..
1) I bought my phone (n9200) region unlocked, could the lock have been reactivated when I loaded a new rom?
2) I did a back up of my stock /efs partition before flashing anything.
However, I cannot find any .nv_data.bin in the efs folder... Could this be a problem? Are there phones without this file?
Would be grateful for any help. I have tried flashing different stock firmwares through odin, but the problem remains...
You should try ODIN flashing the stock firmware you were using when you first flashed TWRP. Bringing it back completely to stock including the stock recovery might set things straight. If this does not work you might need the PIT file for your device for flashing in ODIN. Best of luck.
Download the latest firmware for your device and flash it via the latest version of Odin. I had a similar issue where I flashed a custom ROM and lost service completely. I simply flashed back to complete stock. I got my stock firmware from sammobile, may take you a while but it'll be worth it cause you can then keep that file and always have a stock backup handy. Do it all the time.
Help plz

Yeah, I actually solved it
It never worked to restore with Odin. SIM card was never recognized.
I did however download an official Samsung application (think it was smart switch).
I could do a factory restore of my n9200 through that application and its fixed the "no SIM issue".
i hope it will work for you too.

Hi! So I have a Note 8 SM-N950N (SK) it says that I have SKC variant in the bootloader. I tried to upgrade the firmware due to some issues with the stock rom and now I don't get any service. I can make or receive any calls, nor does it show that I have LTE service. It's like I don't have a SIM card inserted when it's still in there. Does anyone have a solution for this? I purchased it from amazon for about 3 months ago...

Have you checked your APN settings?
I don't see how that has to do with any of it if it can't read SIM cards when you factory reset it or reflash the firmware?

Well you never mentioned factory reset or reflashing firmware, to be fair. You only said you "tried to upgrade" (could have been OTA/Odin, successful/unsuccessful, etc.). Don't know what specific firmware versions you tried either. Anyhow, if the APN settings were off it could explain certain issues with service. If It's not the case, then maybe someone else will be able to help you out with other troubleshooting suggestions.
Yup, it would help if you posted what fw/rom you were on & what fw/rom you tried to "upgrade" to & how (TWRP, Odin, OTA).
I've seen that happen when trying to use an older bl ver than what was on the phone.
did you flash just fw or also modem/bootloader?
I had a similar problem with a note 3 recently and after also flashing those it worked
