Maybe it is old news already but this is what I saw on a Dutch website and I'm happy: SGS I9000 gets update to Gingerbread!!!!!
You can find the news on Tweakers.net
Can anybody confirm?
Couldn't you use question marks (?) instead of exclamation marks (!) since your asking a question?
To answer you question, Samsung are sending mixed signals much like LG. Samsung are most likely looking at the cost/benefit of upgrading the Galaxy S. Obviously, the Galaxy S is more than capable of running Gingerbread.

I just found out today from various pages online that the galaxy tab is already selling with froyo. Now my understanding is that most of you might already know about it ? When samsung postponed their 23rd sept. release for froyo on the SGS, I was still optimistic hoping that the update would be worth waiting for and solve a majority if not all of our problems with the phone, including lag, whenever it came. But now I learn the update does already exist, but only for a newer device! What am I, as a customer supposed to make of this ? If there already is a froyo firmware existing with the samsung's TouchWiz UI, WHY is not brought to the SGS yet ? Earlier I sympathised with samsung thinking that they're putting decent effort in the froyo update before releasing it to end users. But if this is the scenario, I am very upset....
Mod request: Please move thread to I9000 General section.
Froyo IS coming to SGS, it will be available from this week onwards starting with T-Mobile as you might have already seen on all android forums, blogs and websites.
Galaxy Tab is a big product for Samsung, since it's initial firmware is based on Froyo, I’m pretty sure Samsung is putting a lot more effort into getting Froyo out on the Tab compared to having it on the SGS. Its perfectly understandable. Without Froyo they cant release the Tab, but SGS still functions with 2.1.
I know that. Isn't the hardware on both devices the same ? So why wasn't there a simultaneous release of galaxy tab with froyo and froyo for galaxy s ? What takes things so long for SGS ?
I dont know for sure, but most likely the hardware is similar (if not the same). But the firmware has few differences, for example Samsung had to modify it to fix screen scaling issues for 1024x600; and if you have seen some of the Galaxy Tab demo videos, you might have seen that some of it’s UI components are different too (video conferencing interface, eMail client, etc..). Maybe Samsung is putting most of their developers on Tab's firmware development giving less priority to SGS.
Yes well, this is exactly what I'm saying is wrong, for a company like samsung. Especially in this case for nearly identical devices...
As far as the resolution is concerned, being an engineer, I can say it's not that big an ordeal to scale it down. And if you're saying that the galaxy tab has more components/apps out of the box, then that would logically imply that froyo for galaxy s should have arrived first, as it would require lesser development time. Instead, we're seeing months of delays! How is that justified ?

That would be wonderful if the Tab was already selling. Any idea where to get one right now?
I think samsung has some stability problems with TW crap he loads into SGS. Tab is cleaner (no TW), thus didnt require so much TW porting (and all apps developed for Tab are with 2.2 in mind).
Thats one side, because core system aint close to perfect too.
I see. But the tab has TW 3.0 as well from what I've read in this forum. Your other point however, makes a lot of sense..
Hi,
Anybody knows when Android 2.3 will be available for Samsung Galaxy?

Yes Samsung are going to release a successor due to how well it did.
They would be silly to leave it.
probs nothing till late Q2 I can image though
Mark Feb 14th in your diary to find out what.
Cheers for reply guys
Would you recommend still getting the device? I have been Googling the galaxy s 2 . it seeems that the specs will be much better (dual-core!!) So i probably won't be able to afford it. So would you still recommend herring the galaxy s? will it still have a good support (+1 year)
Or do you think i should just stick with my TG01 + SGT?
Is there a way to install Android 2.3 manually onto the Galaxy S without losing the functionlities? After some google'ing I found some info, but some functionalities are missing, like Wifi, GPS etc.

Hm, I'm less than convinced that the leaked Galaxy S 2 specs are real.
Get the nexus s unless you want better bluetooth and camera. Also gingerbread from source looks to be done in a month at least.

I just moved from my G1 to a galaxy s last month. Due to getting a 16gb one for £100.
With lagfix and over clocking it is the fastest phone I've used. ( I repair phones so have used a lot)
If you can get one at the right price its worth it. But if you want to wait for the next OS you will wait forever. Google seem to put updates out every other month. So there is always but this phone has version what ever.
If you like the hardware go for it. If you want Google updates get a nexus.

Back to the original question
Is there a good way to install Android to 2.3 to the current galaxy phones?
no, there is not.
I read that samsung announced a galaxy s successor recently.
I think they said they were to unveil it in WMC
Goto Developer section and install Darkys, its the biz... Android Version to 2.3.1

Its a 2.2.1 version based on JPY firmware.NOT a 2.3.
Why does it say 2.3.1 then?
Forget 2.3

I read in a forum that Samsung have stated that there will not be a 2.3.3 Update available for the Galaxy Tab P1010 (wifi only).
I do not know if that is true, the guys from the original thread have been given the same BS answers or a negative one from The Samsung Support from various locations.
Do any of you guys have any idea or have heard anything about this issue?
Thanks.
P.S. I am never buyng Samsung again.
Well the Wifi version is an inferior version of its 3G cousin dues to its lesser CPU/GPU. They are probably trying to get the update to work with those different parts.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/04/wifi-galaxy-tab-running-on-an-older-cpu-than-its-3g-siblings/
I guess that most of the P1010 users are familiar with that, but i do not think that is enough for Samsung to spare us this major upgrade.
It SHOULD not be. I agree with you.
I also posted over at the Galaxy Tab Forums for you as well.
Let us hope that Samsung sees the errors of its ways.
this news sucks
i bought the gt p1010 cause it is ideal for when it comes to school stuff
this news really saddens me
im not pretty sure about this but i read some things about this 4.0.5 and it was said it was going to be released on i9000
4.0.5 said to be has a BIG performance fix..
i got this news from this link
http://www.androiddigit.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus-and-nexus-s-to-get-android-4-0-5-ics-in-march/
Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S
The news link clearly states only the galaxy nexus and nexus S. Plus it was abundantly made clear in older news posts around the net that the i9000 is not getting ICS and neither will it get the rumored Value pack. As I too am a i9000 user, it kinda sucks to know this
i know samsung said something like that...
but.. dude i think theres a big possibility due to this
Performance FIX thing.. because thats the only one stopping from galaxy S to ICS is Performance..
I'm no great shake on what appears to me to be French, but...
1) Your Article was written for the Nexus and Nexus S and not for the GT-I900Xx (a.k.a the Galaxy S)
2) Where the Article in question even mentions the Galaxy S (Some Table taken from a presumably French source), states quite clearly (even to a non French speaker like myself that the Galaxy S is to only get Android 2.3.6 (Presumably the Value Pack Version), release date February 2012 to be released over Kies.
To indirectly quote your Source it was a table of Official Updates for their current line of Phones.
So I fail to see where you misread this Article into thinking that the Galaxy S was somehow going to get an ICS Update, when Samsung have up to this point stressed that they would not, or could not officially update the GT-I900Xx do to whatever limitations between Touchwiz 3.0 and ICS.
**Edit** What Samsung we're not even gonna get the Value Pack now?
/r/ Sauce kthnxbye!
No chance! Wishful thinking at best. SGS is useless with its 512mb RAM. Either that or the software engineers at Samsung can only compile bloat. The latest iOS seems to function perfectly on iphone4 though. Split between whether i should wait for SGS3 or grab the next iphone and jailbreak the hell outta it. Hmm decisions decisions...

android 5 will performance soon ,seach the news...
U really think galaxy s1 will get Android 5?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
common guys...what makes you thinking that we'll get android 5?
Samsung will forget our phone, if he doesn't yet....
there's ported sgs2 ics firmware for sgs, it's on pre alpha state but its working very good, i'm using it right now
sgs has enough power to ics to work fine
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Samsung might forget us, but XDA devs won't! And if the unofficial ICS builds are any indication, our phone sure is powerful enough to handle ICS.
It sure does suck that we're not getting official ICS, but the awesome community here has infinitely improved my experience, so for that I'm glad and grateful.
Like Samsung is going to go trough the trouble of making an ICS version for a phone that is almost two years old.
I'd rather have them focus on creating top-notch software for my next phone..... The SGSIII......
Hey folks, this may seem like a dumb question.
I've got a 16GB WiFi-only Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7510). I'm running AOKP on it and I'm somewhat happy with that, but I'd like my camera and other stuff to work. As far as I can tell, the only way that's going to happen is after the stock ICS is released (need the stock ICS kernel for the hardware to all work correctly). There's no ETA on the official release of ICS for my device, just that it will happen "sometime". I registered my device at:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/account
Is there any other / better way to get notified when ICS is released / leaked? Is this the best forum to be looking at for such an announcement?
sorry. it seems many people viewed this thread, but no one replied.
I, too dont know the answer maybe you can try posting in Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 forum, bec. this is the galaxy tab P1000 and galaxy tab P1010 forum (i think)
