so I just installed an app from the market that allows u to see what tower your using and mine keeps jumping to about 3 different ones the best one is only 3k meters away however it'll randoMly jump to one that's almost 17k meters away witch breaks my 3g connections I have tried several different radios updating prls and profiles nothing seems to help could sprint fix this somehow by calling them thanks in advance this is driving me crazy I live in the stix lol

As for a fix, I'd say update your PRL (sense rom only), if its the newest try a different radio. If the a different radio doesn't work and your PRL is the latest, try reverting to an older PRL.
Newest PRL as of right now is 60672
If you want to revert to an older one check out This Thread
Hope it works out
If you live in the sticks, either find a carrier that has actual coverage, move, or stick to a landline
Or try to get an Airwave.
Second the Airave...I used to have no service in my house and now I get full coverage in the entire 1st floor and around 3-4 bars on the 2nd floor. Just call Sprint and ask them to transfer you to whoever cancels your account and tell them you're thinking of canceling your contract because you get no service in your house and ask if there is anything they can do. They should offer you the Airave free of charge.
Okay update..
So I decided to call Sprint and explained my situation and the tech was pretty nice she saw that I wad jumping to different towers and I told her about switching radios and everything and she new exactly what i was talking about so she told me to power of my phone and take out the battery for a couple of min so they could change something so did that left it out for about 8min and she said she would call me back in about ten min so I waited and about 40min I decided to call baCk and I got a diff tech who was kind of a jerk she said as long as I can make calls ajd access data there was nothing they could do so I kept telling her what the other tech said but she kept going in a circle so I gave up and Hung up still nothing changed and I'm awaiting a call back from the first tech

So I decided to call a Sprint tech store that's near me and the guy was a lot better and new what he was doing he told me to go to the dialer and press *18 and that would automatically connect me to the nearest tower witch it did and it seems to be sticking to that tower and one that is 8miles away but I still get a decent signal from so that definitely worked so FYI always call a sprint tech store they know what there doing but does anyone know if dialer codes will work on cm6.1 witch is my Rom of choice

Well I just flashed over to CM 6.2 Extreamly Blue and I noticed a few things....
My reception seems to constantly go from Full, to none, then Back to full, all the while switching between 3g and 1x. But only in my house. My mom has a non rooted htc hero with the same PRL and her service follows the same pattern but it doesnt drain her battery like it does mine.
Any suggestions of what to do?
mine does that sometimes to on stable 6.1 but it don't affect my battery

Try going to the latest rooted 2.1 sense rom and updating your prl and profile a few times. Also you can try flashing a diff radio I use a Verizon radio because it gives me better service where I live. And lastly, the service bars on aosp/cm6 roms NEVER show correct signal anyways.

How do I flash a different radio? I know for a FACT that Verizon provides better service where I live. Also, once I do this, is it reversible once I do this?
Second..... Can I flash from 6.2 down to 6.1 WITHOUT wiping? Or would it best to go to my backed up 2.1 update my prl then do a fresh flash to 6.1.

For a fact verizon has better signal in my area as well. Lets start by saying people flash radios because they can provide different signal and or battery boost. You have to try diff radios to see how results go I have about 5 radios on my sdcard and i gave them about a day of use to test each. One way to check is to go to cm settings and select user interface, then status bar and from there check show dbm(signal strength) and hide the signal bars. Coverage is so bad in my home but the desire radio jumps my home signal from -110dbm to about -76dbm which is really good compared to 110. Anything over -90dbm isnt really good coverage. You can flash these radios from any rom just need to be rooted. BE really careful though i have a cdma hero which means cmda radios only. If you flash a radio from a gsm phone/hero you WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE. You can do this from a sense rom if you want but im just on cm6.1 stable. And to answer your last question, it is very reversible; you can flash radio after radio like I have done but once again just be careful not to flash any gsm radios. Hope this helps man.
Heres the radio i use, i recommend for best results give each radio about a day

That site has a handful of cdma radios that would work on your cdma hero just browse around. Theres also a new radio thats hanging around one of these threads (.29 radio) but it doesnt help much cause coverage sucks like the (.27) stock radio. To check which radio you are on just go to settings then about phone, then it says it under BASEBAND version.
The list of known radios/basebands:
1.04.01.09.21 (old 1.5)
2.32.40.11.09 (eris/desire)

2.42.00.03.10

Nah your cool man, umm typically flashing a radio plays along with your PRL, some people say certain radios dont play nice with their PRL, but it has never happen to me(if it does just go to a 2.1 sense rom and try to update it with your profile and should be fine). Your PRL will remain the same; though ive been on many PRL'S and diff radios and never had any issues what so ever. As long as you are up to date with the latest PRL then your phone wont go crazy and be stuck in roaming mode lol. Some people create their own PRL's and put them in and etc. But your PRL isnt changed, just radio man if thats what your asking im kind of half asleep.

The best way and easiest is to just use rom manager download the radio then go to rom manager and install zip from SD card find the radio click on it do not wipe or anything then rom manager will boot into recovery and install then it'll turn of and on and you'll see the android Guy with a black screen then it'll reboot again and you'll see a a box with an arrow then your phone will reboot again normally and it should be installed but make sure your using clockworkmod with rom manager

Hi everyone, I flashed different ROMs for a couple of weeks, and finally decide to settle down with OC 2.3.3, the July 15th latest one. However, the same problem occurred, which is with a Tmo Modem in the tab, I have great signal, EDGE data, and no phone function. With JK3, I got nothing, which is the main reason I switched back to Froyo at first.
I am a ATT user, holding a Tmo GT. I didn't find any fimilar threads, and in fact, I think this is a question needs precise answers.
Thanks in advance!
Updated on #4
UPDATE: I find the signal sometimes appeared and give me GPRS... So weird... I even reflash the rom again, not help. So any other paople could help me?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
You can use the t-mobile modem, and you will only get EDGE. You can use a vibrant modem and you can get voice and EDGE.
BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET 3G.
There are probably a five hundred posts on this.
And it will never matter which rom you use. It is only due to hardware limitations, as I explained to you elsewhere.
Thanks for the help, but you misunderstood. I know the edge and voice stuff, just the modem didnt work on my tab.
Since I absolutely want gingerbread this time, I finally figure this out, I went to wireless settings and select GSM only, instead of autoselect. NOW I can FINALLY make calls and get edge instead of gprs. I will keep tracked to see if this method could solve the problem eventually.
People see alot of similar threads and they forgot to care about simple problems because they thought it was old, which in fact isnt. Still thank this forum for bringing me all the great things!

It is usually the simple things that cause us problems! And you wouldn't have gotten any reply if I didn't care about your problem.
Why can't you switch to a t-mobile sim card so you can enjoy the 3g?
Do u mean if I switch to tmobile I could get 3g and voice? I am managing a family plan right now and my wife is waiting for iphone 5, but if that is the situation, I might consider switching... ao attractive...

You are 100% right.
T-mobile tabs in the USA get voice or 3g using the switch.
In a few other countries t-mobile tabs get voice and 3g, no switch needed.

Yes, sort of.
You would have to install the Rotohammer modem switch.
Mode #1 = voice, sms, and EDGE speed data.
Mode#2 = 3g data only.
Thank you for that info rangercaptain. You just add more knowledge to me.

Ok i am being throttled at 5-7 kbs which sux!! So ive been google hunting and have found very little on beating throttle "all i wouldnt trust." So i started digging into system files. I found a file named cci_ro.prop in data/flex which when opened as text has alot of options to edit over ip/network. I understand some but not all of options unfortunatly. I will toy around with it very softly see what i come up with and maybe beat cricket throttling for good and without having to flash unknown to zio.

I found this very interesting thread called 'Data Service Governor Killer.'
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10100043&postcount=1
The author of the thread mentioned that the data governor killer is compatible with many other roms. From reading the thread, I think that I understood that the governor killer modifies a file in the Android system directory named services.jar
These are the throttled files that can be found in the classes.dex inside the services.jar file directory (examples from a moto droid) and the governor killer removes them,
ThrottleService$1.smali
ThrottleService$2.smali
ThrottleService$DataRecorder.smali
ThrottleService$InterfaceObserver.smali
ThrottleService$MyHandler.smali
ThrottleService$SettingsObserver.smali
ThrottleService.smali
The data governor killer is flashed under recovery mode by using rom manager or something of the sort. I do think that this may be possible for us to do in CWM or to integrate this with openZio.
It would be awesome to have the data service governor killer along with Juwe11's ram script modification added to a future build of openZio.
EDIT:
I found this tutorial http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/105807-guide-how-stop-data-throttling.html which doesn't require flashing I think.

That's the pot calling the kettle black if I ever heard it. I didn't see Mattix's post as rude. Misarticulated, maybe, but still; if you see something someone says as rude, 75% of the time it's because YOU read it that way. This isn't the place to be fighting anyway. We're all here to collaborate, and that's what I expect to see us all doing. Alright?

Edit: did you reboot after changing to true pomer? Also i just want to say that i was 100% throttled i called cricket cs and they verified that i had gone over my 1 gig mark.
The only thing that i can think of me changing was a day prier i deleted the folder throttle and cleared out the folder usagestats "then rebooted". Both folders are found in data/system. On reboot system made another throttle folder and had replaced the 2 files in the usagestats system reseting both files with all 0's in the files. No speed increase i was still hitting 5-7kbs everywere i did the speed test. Tested outside, inside, in car all still the same. I am still getting 150 and above right now. Weird ill let ya no if anything changes.

@bryanskinner, I am new to the droid world. Just recent got a job to afford a cricket phone! I've have discovered the beauty of rooting a phone with my ascend.
I just got the ascend2, and there is little to none support for it right now. I have the phone rooted and do not have clockwork recovery on the phone. Is this a must have? b/c i dont want to rush things for the mod b/c a2 not supported just yet but of course there is a way to mock clockwork mod.
As for fastdormance=true i have no idea how you would get to that system file and i have no idea if i need a custom rom on my phone or can i just use my stock os? Im asuming i need to get a program for my computer to access system files? or is it simply an app?
Please help. I WANT MY NETFLIX BACK. it took no time at all for the startling truth of cricket's throttling to arise and great me with retarded slow speeds.
FYI @mattix, you might like to know this..... I work for verizon as a tech support agent and no, cell phone companies will not cancel your service if you bypass your phone throttling even if we see it in our systems. in fact it is highly the opposite. you can do anything to your phone from rooting to whatever. just trust me.
here is an idea drop cricket for a real carrier like verizon or sprint that give you real 3g cricket is a joke period slow ass 3g = fail

Here is an idea: don't come into our forum and berate us over OUR product-choices. FYI, we piggyback on Verizon's data network, and much of the time, we're just as fast.
Anyway, here are some abridged posts from pyrixiate from the OpenZIO development thread that solve the throttling problem.
pyraxiate said:
IT WORKS! One drawback... you cant access settings/mobile networks. Not sure why but others report the same on other devices. Ill look into it and try adding one throttling service back at a time and hopefully it will resolve the issue.
All i did was decompile [services.jar] , wipe ALL of the throttling services, and recompile.

PS
It definitely helped my bandwidth issues. I know im well over 5gb this month and i noticed a heavy reduction in speed. Using this id say it want back to around 50-60% what it originally was.
Please note, I have NOT had the time to determine which specific throttling services specifically have an impact, so for now you WILL not be able to use settings/ mobile networks ( this is also repeated several times in other threads using the same method ). One of those throttling files if removes causes FC's.

Once again, this particular services.jar was decompiled, stripped of it's throttling services, and recompiled by pyraxiate, and this link is to his dropbox that he posted in the OpenZIO development thread.

A few more things to keep in mind; you HAVE to adb push this (to /system/framework/) or you'll end up bootlooping your phone, before you adb push it make sure you have data and data roaming enabled in settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks (because you won't be able to access this after you push the new services.jar), this is ONLY good for the current OpenZIO ROM, and BACK UP YOUR SERVICES.JAR FILE IN CASE YOU F**K IT UP.
ok so my iphone4s never seemed to do this, but now that i have android, sometimes when im trying to load a page, it just hangs. it starts to load, and then just stays there and ill wait and wait, and finally it loads. i dont know if its an android thing or maybe my area/service (sprint) but its annoying. anybody have this problem?

Most likely the service. Get on WiFi and see if it happens

Try it on WiFi or even try a different browser. Network is more than likely the culprit. Only happens to me in weak signal areas.

People were asking you to test on wifi not as a solution but for diagnosis.
It's a network issue. Sprint has terrible 3g, with very spotty performance

Yeah Sprint's 3G is horrible. Its hard for me to stream a YouTube vid on HD without it pausing every few seconds to buffer. They're putting up more towers so it'll eventually get there

ill try it.. but i HATE that the little menu bar at the bottom takes up so much space. i didnt upgrade from an iphone, to a htc one to lose screen space lol.
Sprint's 3g has a lot of jitter and latency so as everyone else said, its most likely gonna be the network

You can actually go into settings and turn on fullscreen browsing I believe

One thing shady with Sprint phones is that always displays your signal as 3G but that doesn't mean you are on 3G connection. The only way to know if you are on 3G or 2G(1x) is if you are running a custom Rom. When I was on Verizon the phone actually display if you are were on 3G or 2G. I bet of the page is taking forever to load and you do a speed test you probably are running 1x with almost dial-up speeds.

Hello XDA,
So I've purchased my 1st quad-core phone Saturday. I'm extremely happy about the phone's cosmetics and performance. Of course, being the flash-aholic that I am, I decided to beef it up!! After finially getting an AOSP rom that I felt comfortable with, I flashed and everything was great.... Until I noticed that my data stopped working. The funny thing is if I turn on airplane mode, make a call, or restart the phone the data comes on for about 2 minutes and then turns back off. After messing around with settings and such, I restored my stock rom. On the stock rom data works like it should. So I decided to try 2 other roms. One being GE and the other AOSP. Both are doing the same thing with data connectivity.
Is this a known issue? Did I do something wrong? I looked through the Q&A's and I didn't find anything. Keep in mind that I am very experienced up to full development of rooting/flashing/customizing/etc
Thanks in Advanced!!!!!
Update: T-mobile is my service provider
*bump*
It's imperative that I find out if this is fixable or not as I will return the unit if it's not...
Apologies

Did you try updating the radio firmware to match the ROM that you were using? Did you try another Sense ROM to see if the issue wasn't an underlying setting from a GE or AOSP ROM? Did you flash a custom Kernel? Did you match the RILs? Lots of things that you could try to isolate the issue.

I use PA from the regular HTC One forum even though I'm on T-Mobile... It shouldn't matter, I still get the same speeds. Some different ROMs will use different names, like the aosp stuff uses 3g, H, H+ and LTE. In order to enable lte you have to go into the settings for mobile data, APN and then make sure it's the one that's like fast.tmo whatever. That's the LTE APN
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
what's the exact APN name that should be there? I was reading about it but no one said what T-mobile's APN should be. they just noted that it should be changed the correct carrier.
edit: Thanks Button hit!!
