Can you post a track?

Whichever other settings you use, you will definitely also want to use the closest ntp time server pool in the gps.conf file. By default this is set to north-america.pool.ntp.org, so for most of the world, this is not the most optimal time server to use (internet latency introduces jitter into the accuracy of the time supplied).
You certainly can't do any harm changing this to your own continent, or even better your own country!
I use uk.pool.ntp.org here in the UK.
FasterFix program (from XDA developer) makes it easier to change the gps.conf file for you.

Thx for the reply,
I am from holland so what exactly i need to change?
Best regards

This thread hopefully explains it and gives you the software to make the changes a doddle.
Background on what it does, and how to pick a better ntp pool to use is in this post (and the one after) in that thread.
Any questions are probably best asked in that thread to keep this one clean.

Another GPS Help Me Topic

This is just my last resort I suppose. I recently flashed to NATF's v4.4 and 1.11.25.01 radio plus installed Google Maps on my att Fuze.
But when I go to locate myself Google Maps tells me "Your current location is temporarily unavailable". Sweet.
So what have I done thus far?
I've looked around and I've done the Advance config tweaks.
I've updated my Quick GPS.
I've ran the HTC GPS Tool (I honestly have no clue what I am looking at here lol but I do get a Mode 2: Not Fix thingy) for about 2 hours hoping for *something* to pop up.
Finally, I've done the GPS Test version 1.04 but it maintains itself at "Looking for GPS unit.
I've soft reset, hard reset and cried.
Is there anything else I'm missing? Any help would be mucho appreciated, thanks!
Hi Coola,
I am using the standard HTC-ROM.
0) First of all, I am not sure whether your GPS unit is working in your phone.
But assuming that the hardware is still OK do the following:
1) Go to settings > System > external GPS.
Check if all options are still normal.
Program port is COM4.
Hardware port : none.
Baudrate : 4800.
Access: Check automated GPS control.
NOTE that an external connected GPS (e.g. Bluetooth device) unit will have a baudrate of 4800. The internal which resides at Com4 has a standard baudrate of 57600. These settings need to be checked to make sure they are still this way and it will also give Windows automated control of the GPS system.
2) You need to install Advanced Config 3.3.
http://www.touchxperience.com/fr/out…ol-32-cab.html
With Advanced config 3.3 under GPS:
1. disable A-GPS
2. disable GPS logging
3. logfile name must be empty
4. old logfile name must be empty
5. maximum size of logfile must be 0
6 delete the files : \windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
After these settings the tool will soft-reset your mobile.
3) Then edit registry with TotalCommander
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab
Don't make any errors here, check your steps carefully.
These values seem to work fine and give you a much quicker fix.
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, you have to create it, make a Dword value)
After these settings are in place, restart / soft reset your device.
4) Run the program QuickGPSfix and download the new data.
This step needs to be repeated anytime it is outdated.
5) Download and install the HTC GPS Tool.
http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853...C_GPS_TOOL.cab
Upon starting it should show COM4 and a Baudrate of 57600.
Go outside the house, preferably with good wheather.
Hit the "Open"
Hit the "Nav. Int."
Leave all as is, no need to change the options.
You should now start to see the GPS data flow over your screen in the grey area. Wait patiently, the first fix can take up to 10 minutes (afterwards it wil go faster). If it fails it sometimes seems to help to move around a little bit and to reboot your device if it takes way to long.
See if you have any red bars below the satellite numbers (signal strength per satellite) When you get a fix, the bars and satellites to which it is connected will show up green. If there are no red bars here, no data flow etc then there is something wrong with the ROM / radio combination and your phone.
Close this program if you have a fix.
6) Start-up Google maps. Wait for it to download the basic map information, so you don't have any interference from the "now downloading data" message. Then start the GPS use. Fix should now go fast. Once it has a fix you can start moving towards your destiny.
From now on use HTC GPS tool to get a fix.
Close this program, start the program with which you want to use GPS.
Good luck, Jouke.

the location Google Maps is trying to get is from the "cell towers", make sure your selecting com4 or MS controled Gps. In other words , google trys to locate with towers first. Then if you select to use GPS, it will try using your Gps setting under options. If you already know all this, then disregard my post, if not, then I hope it helps!
Ah I see what I did wrong. Thank you guys for the clairification!
I had previously made all of these tweaks and I did see some green bars but it never said fixed, which I assumed it would.
I did the HTC GPS Tool and booted up Google maps and voila! It found me
Thank you thank you thank you!

Stupid WM6.5 question on Xperia...

Hey Guys,
So I have really stupid question about using WM6.5 on Xperia. Essentially, I am trying to manually create a data connection/mms connection and in the past, I have always been able to figure out how to do this, but for some reason in WM6.5, I am just not able to get it to work because I think I might be making the changes in the wrong places.
So, can someone please tell me step by step on how to manually create a data connection on WM 6.5, possibly with the EnergyROM? I would really appreciate it! Here are the settings:
1. Click on Start.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Connections.
4. Select GPRS.
5. Select New and enter the following information:
 Name: Simple
 Connect to: Internet
 Access point name: simple
 Username: <Blank>
 Password: <Blank>
 Primary dns: <Blank>
 Secondary dns: <Blank>
 IP address: <Blank>
6. Press Done.

It's not the fault of WM6.5 but HTC. They hide the WM setting page and force you to use their settings tab (why we can't have both by default???). Use this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo]
"HideSettings"=dword:0

Thanks for response Jack. That value is already set to 0. Any chance you could provide me the steps of putting in those settings. I feel like I am missing something here. Thank you again for your help so far.
If anyone else can chime in, as well, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
Maybe I was a bit confuse about your problem. Isn't that you can't find the shortcut for "Connections" under Start > Settings > Connections > Connections?

HOWTO: Set up your G1's Wi-Fi (in order to make it actually *work*)

I've received my Dream yesterday and the wi-fi is painfully slow. At first it didn't work at all, so I entered all settings by hand, assigned it a static IP address and other stuff. Then it worked, albeit very slowly. So, here's what you need to do if your wi-fi isn't too fast.
Go to Wi-Fi settings, press Menu and select Advanced Settings. On your computer (if you're using an unix based OS, at least - can some Windows guru help me out with this?), get to a terminal emulator and type:
Code:
ifconfig en1
This should give you output like this:
Code:
Wiktoria:~ Nekkoru$ ifconfig en1
en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ether 00:1c:b3:bd:b9:cb
inet6 fe80::21c:b3ff:febd:b9cb%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x6
inet 192.168.55.102 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.55.255
media: <unknown subtype>
status: active
Wiktoria:~ Nekkoru$ [CODE]
The IP address after inet (192.168.55.102 in my case) is what you're after. On your phone, enter your IP address as the IP adress you got, with the last block changed to anything that's not being used on your network. I assigned 192.168.55.69 to my phone, because it's easy to remember and it's kind of childish.
Now, your "Gateway" should be your router's IP address. Your router's IP should be specified in it's manual - or your system settings. Your subnet mask should always be 255.255.255.0.
We need your DNS settings now - this is where most of us screw up and this is what you need to fix the most. Go back to your computer's terminal and type in
[CODE]dig
Look at the bottom. You're interested in a line that says "SERVER: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". That's your primary, first DNS. If you give that to your phone, your wi-fi should work way faster. Set it up as the second DNS as well, unless you know a better DNS server than your ISP's (anyone?).
I'm sorry this got so complicated, but that's the best way to set up your G1's internet if it gives you any trouble. I hope I helped somewhat.

About A-GPS Servers (gps.conf)

Hi there,
Galaxy SIII has "XTRA_SERVER_1=http://gllto.glpals.com/4day/latest/lto.dat" server line in gps.conf file, while Galaxy S has "XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin".
What is the difference between those servers? And which is better for faster GPS fix? Or "XTRA_SERVER_1=http://gllto.glpals.com/4day/latest/lto.dat" server is compatible with I9000?
Thanks in advance.
no answers?
They're different servers, that said, they're interchangeable. Why don't you try interchanging them? Remember to back up.
Here's mine, it's the fastest in my country:
NTP_SERVER=0.ca.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.ca.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.ca.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.ca.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=ca.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

ENABLE_WIPER=1
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com

xtra.bin is basically used by QUALCOMM , lto.dat is used by Broadcom Chip of BCM47511. Do a whois on glpals.com and gpsonextra.net and you will know which company uses which services. There is no great idea to change the Software of GPS to Qualcomm from broadcom ...
Gps-nitz-ntp
Hi all,
Sorry to post there but after lot of search, i haven't get any information
Does NITZ protocol is used only by GSM network and is it the default protocol used by android system to sync time?
Things I know is that:
- user can't set time without root privileges
- NTP server could be used only with third-party apps
- there is a gps.conf file in /system/etc and inside there is a line NTP_SERVER=... I want to know the meaning of gps.conf file cause my final goal is to try to sync device with NTP server wihout root priviledge but by redirecting NTP request to my own NTP server (changing DNS maybe) I used some packets sniffer and I can't see some NTP packets (over Wi-fi or GSM)
Thanks fo help
