[Q] Flashing to JPM from I9000XXJM3 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, it has been a while since I last flashed my phone, I remember there being 3 files + a .pit file. All the downloads for JPM I can find only have the PDA file. Will I be able to flash this directly from JM3 without selecting repartition or having the other files or is there something I am missing?
Thanks.

[Q] DDJP6 Flash with odin

i have updated to DDJp6 via kies, now what i need to know is if i want to reflash the same firmware with odin..
there is one tar file named JP6_JP5_U_JP2, should i put the file in just pda or PDA,PHONE AND CSc all at a time together and then flash?

[Q][SOLVED] Noob question about flashing

Hello all,
I have an i9000 running:
PDA: I9000XWJPA
PHONE: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000XEFJP3
Build Info: 2010.10
According to the firmwares linked in samfirmware.com, this seems to be the following firmware
I9000XWJPA ## 803.PIT Version 2.2 2010 October DOWNLOAD 1 file select NO .PIT
As many people reports that XXJPY is faster, I'd like to upgrade my cellphone to this newer version. However, samfirmware.com states
I9000XXJPY ## 512.PIT Version 2.2.1 2010 December DOWNLOAD 1 file select NO .PIT
So, the PIT file is different. What does this represent in terms when upgrading using ODIN? Can I perform this upgrade safely from my current firmware?
In that webpage there are two warnings: "Please when you have only one file SKIP RE-PARTITION!" && "Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!" However, I have a different PIT file in my current firmware, so I suppose I have to use the 512.PIT file even having only one file. But what about the rest of files? And... when changing the PIT file, should I repartition & wipe my phone?
Thank you very much!

Try without re-partitioning, it should work. If it does not you can always re-flash with re-partition (using the 512.PIT).
Succeeded!
Hello all,
first of all, thank you admins for moving this thread into the appropiate subforum
I want to share my experience about the successfull upgrading my phone into XXJPY just in case anyone is looking for the same.
First, I downloaded the XXJPU & XXJPY firmwares from the samfirmware.com and also ODIN 1.3. I installed successfully XXJPU firmware on my phone using ODIN through the cellphone download mode. I set Repartition, I chose the 512-PIT and the 3 files (PDA, MODEM and CSC). The ODIN process took approx 3 mins and the time needed for the phone to reboot was not exhagerated (2-3 mins?).
Then I upgraded my phone to XXJPY in a bad way. I reopened ODIN, I checked repartition, I chose the 512-PIT and put the XXJPY single file into PDA. After upgrading, the phone was not able to boot fine. It showed some strange error when booting only the first time, and after that, every boot turned into showing the Samsung logo endlessly.
So, I reflashed XXJPU as described before. And then flashed XXJPY using the 512-PIT, without checking repartition and I set the PDA file to be the .tar file downloaded from the firmwares webpage. After that, the flash took about 3 mins, and again the first boot took some extra time. But finally, I got the phone running XXJPY, which indeed is running smoother than the original fw I had.
In brief:
You can upgrade from:
PDA: I9000XWJPA
PHONE: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000XEFJP3
Build Info: 2010.10
to
PDA: I9000XXJPY
PHONE: I9000XXJPY
CSC: I9000XXJPY
Build Info: 2010.12
at least upgrading first to XXJPU (repartition, 512pit, tri-file) and then to XXJPY (no repartition, 512pit, one-file).
Regards.

[Q] How do I flash homebinary.tar files?

This may be a dumb question, and I've looked around the forums, but can't find an answer.
I've downloaded KC1 for my Galaxy S, and the file I downloaded is I9000UGKC1_homebinary.tar
I looked inside the tar file and there is cache.rfs, factoryfs.rfs, modem.bin, param.lfs, etc
How do I flash these with Odin?
Thanks
what is the file used for? is it a modem? kernel ?
Well, I downloaded the firmware file for KC1 for the i9000 from samfirmware.com
I was wondering how to upgrade my phone to that, but it only had the one TAR file (and not the PHONE, PDA and MODEM files that other firmwares have).
So i'm not sure how I'm suppose to flash it.
oh!
well you place the file in the PDA tab in odin, and flash away (while repartition is UNCHECKED)
As per the instructions on Samfirmware in regard to flashing with odin .

[Q] What is my firmware?! (Bell Canada i9000m)

I'm on Bell Canada.
My I9000M is currently in boot loops.
I've searched and searched but I can't find the all the files I need to revert to stock.
I need the following:
PIT:
PDA:
PHONE:
CSC:
Can someone please tell me what files I need and where I can download them?
I find the instructions on samfirmware to be very poorly written.
Edit: I found this url: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022445 should I use these files? If so, what PIT should I use?
you can find it all here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12685962
Never mind. I didnt read your edit. I recovered mine from a soft brick by using those files without bootloader, no pit or repartition.
Good Luck
Flashed with these 3 files and boot is still looping!
Any ideas?
Search for EZ base. Its a pre configured set of poison files used specifically to restore your phone.

Trying this - will report back.
Failed.
Still boot looping.
Just use odin with the pit file and checked repartition. When you get bootloops you should always flash with pit and checked repartition instead of saving like 10 seconds to mount them. Just mount the phone, pda and csc (if any), mount the pit file, tick the repartition option and flash it.

[Q] Going back to stock, confused...

Hi
I am having a little bit of trouble going back to stock. I currently run the latest cm10 nightly, which repartitions your phone, right? So i want to go back to stock, but am confused. I have a 803 pit file which i believe i need to flash. Now the firmware package i have (from sammobile.com, correct one for my region) is all one tar file. Does not contain files that odin can flash, so in which one (pda, boot, modem etc.) do i need to put that file? It contains a load of .bin and .rfs files. Also, reading this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7152078#post7152078 it tells me not to flash the pit with the one package file i have, so what is the exact procedure?
Thanks in adavnce!
The package you have is the PDA if is only one don't insert a pit and don't tick repartition, only put the file In the pda
