Hello i have a bell galaxy s and have had a lot of problems with it. I've had it for 4 months and it has gone it for service twice and is f#@kup again after havivg it back for 4 days. Has anyone had any luck returning a phone after this length of time and if so how did you do it? Even a trade for a brand new one or a desire z.
Thanks
I assume it's for the internal SD card?
Honestly, this would be my approach (2 times in 4 months in for repair!!):
1. Go to Bell store with receipt (if possible) and phone
2. Demonstrate that the phone is once again not functioning
3. Remind them that you got this back 4 days ago from repairs
4. Ask for a new one on the spot. No more waiting for repairs.
5. If they don't comply, get the store manager. Re-explain the situation.
6. If they still don't comply, remind them that a Rogers Wireless/Wind (or whatever carrier you choose) mobile location isn't too far away, and that being a highly dissatisfied customer with Bell selling and returning defective products isn't very motivating to keep you as a customer
7. Enjoy your brand new phone! (Hopefully).
I'm usually very aggressive in these kinds of situations so if I attempted this the police may need to drag me away, but honestly if you just got it back I wouldn't tolerate that bulls**t.
sorry to steal thread
but I dont have receipt since I brought it off craigslist..
Any tips?
Well i flashed a new rom and it seems to be working now so not sure what happend but im getting a little sick of having to carrie a spare cell around because i cant trust my galaxy.

I think full recall needs to be implemented. This is obviously a wide spread issue and Bell needs to step up to the plate.

hmmm... ok, let me have some opinions on this, I am running fresh 2.3.3, oc 710, clear lock screen. At about 12 noon yesterday my touch screen stopped responding, BUT only at the top exactly where the notification bar is, I know this because I turned on Nexus Revamped Pro LWP and in settings I set the particles to spawn where I touch, I have not been able to pull down my notification bar since yesterday! Ok, stop and think of how inconvenient that is! Anyways, I have gone so far now as to wipe everything and go back to stock fresh 2.3.3(no kernel or any theming) and it still wont work, oh, sometimes when I go to hit the phone soft key(bottom of screen) THE DAMN NOTIFICATION BAR JUMPS DOWN! I am going nuts trying to solve this, the phone was dropped once two days after I got it(almost a year ago) and it has had a Zagg screen protector on it until yesterday because I thought that it might be causing the problem. So there is my rant with some information on the problem stuck in there, anyone have any ideas let me know before tomorrow morning, I will have to go back to stock and unroot so I can go to Best Buy(not so Best Buy) to exchange it.
Wrong forum, try a different rom. but I would unroot and take it back

oops!! my bad, mod please move it! this is set as my home page I forgot to click Q&A section!
I had the same problem a few few months ago. The same thing with the notification bar would not slide down, but if you press anywhere on the screen it will. I dealt with for a day or two until I couldn't take it anymore. I reverted back to stock 2.1 and went to the sprint store to get it fixed. The technicians there never heard about this problem and they couldn't fix it. Luckily I was still under a 1 year HTC warrenty, so they just exchanged it with no problem. Hope this helps you out, and good luck.

Well, I tried 4 roms and stock 1.5 and 2.1 today and finally unrooted back to 1.5, I still am within my one year HTC warranty, I payed for a warranty at best buy(boooo!) and I happen to be out of town right now, so I go to the store here and they try to tell me I am not paying for the replacement program or warranty, AND I HAD ALL MY PAPERWORK IN FRONT OF THEM, so they finally said no we wont exchange it but we will send it off, it will be 3-4 weeks and we aren't giving you a loaner, so I said no and they gave me a special receipt and told me to go to any Sprint store and they would replace it....ANOTHER LIE, I went to FOUR stores scattered across Houston until a store even looked at it, I explained the issue and the said ok our tech will replace your screen or we will give you a new one it will be 30 min., ANOTHER LIE, 2 hours and 26 min later I was handed my phone by the tech and told that he had updated me to 2.1 and that my phone was fine, LIE. FIRST of all my screen wouldnt even unlock by touch(had to menu, menu) second I could still not get a proper response from my screen or even touch the T.B., second as soon as I turned the screen on it asked me to DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE, he didnt address the problem that he was told was there, he lied about doing the update, I lost it on this lazy ass, so he took my phone again, had it for under 3 min this time, brought it back and said here I updated it, I cant fix it, I cant give you one from our stock, you will have one in 3-4 days, again no loaner, THE UPDATE WAS STILL NOT EVEN DOWNLOADED, AND ONLY HALF OF MY BATTERY COVER WAS ATTACHED,I AM 376 MILES FROM MY WIFE AND 2 KIDS WITH NO PHONE. So at this point I just want to say, F*@# Sprint and F*@# Best Buy, I pay thousands a year for warrantys and bills, have payed at least the double the retail of my phone just in insurance(between our two lines) and you A$$'s reniged on everything that extra I pay for, when I do get my new one I will be canceling all insurance and warrantys and in 5 months when my contract is up IM GONE, you people have never done anything to honor your customer service agreements and I dont think I have ever heard anyone with a positive experience, SO F*@# YOU!!!! Ok my rant is done, just wanted to say to anyone even considering Sprint, dont do it unless you have the cash to just buy a new phone at full price if anything happens, they will screw you any way possible, been with them for coming up 5 years and they dont give a damn about anyone, RUN AWAY WHILE YOU CAN.
The actions of few almost never speak for the quality and character of All.
I've never had a problem with my service that wasn't resolved within an hour and a half by a sprint representative. I used to have the rumor and I soaked it once(replaced), my mother broke her screen and got it replaced, one time my charger port got so jacked up that they had to give me a new phone and the Rep offered to give me his old phone, ofcourse I said no and thanked him but that shows there are good folk in the company we have been buying service from for the better part of a decade.
I would gladly change my opinion if I ever saw a change in how they handle my wife and I as customers, I have just not seen it... OH, PLEASE tell me what store to go to, seriously, no sarcasm, I will go if its close(houston area), it is just very stressful and insulting to pay what we pay believing that they will hold up their end and being openly lied to...I know that my little flame out does not speak for everyone, it just helps to get it out.....XDA Group Therapy LMAO
I don't think I will ever buy a phone from best buy... If you try and have any warranty service done it seems to be a hassle for must people. Luckily I by my phones directly from sprint and I've never had a problem.

Ok, last update on my situation, I will try not to freak out, I am highly upset.
So, after days with a non-functioning phone, I go to the store and first of all, why does it take 15 min to walk behind the counter and pick up a packaged phone when I am the only customer in the store? OK, so my "New" phone came in, great right, wrong! I take care of my things, I am an adult that likes nice things and cant afford many, so when I get something I want I take extremely good care of it, my Hero was immaculate, spotless, and I have had it since a couple month after release, what they brought me was ****, it has scratches all over the screen(which is funny because he made a big deal asking me if I wanted the "screen plastic" taken off), the back cover has scratches on it, the back cover has a crack in it and is warped to the point that it will not stay on completely and there is a gap between the back cover and the phone, the metal band around the phone is loose, the hardware buttons are lose, I dont know who would call this a new phone but the poor thing has been badly abused, I almost feel bad for this poor Hero. So there it is, my experience yet again with Sprint and best buy. I feel like with the amount of money that I have payed total for "insurance" I should not be given a trashed piece of hardware. Sprint, is not all bad, I personally just have not had a good experience with them. Just be careful people.
I recently purchased my Captivate through Radio Shack using my upgrade an re-upped for another 2 years. Like a lot of folks I too am having problems with random shut offs and poor GPS performance so I'm contemplating bringing it back. I can't live with a phone that shuts off randomly. I'm not sure I want to get another Captivate. Not because it's not an awesome phone because it is, but more to do with the fact that it doesn't appear like there's any solutions to these problems in the near future.
My question is if I return it what are my options for a replacement from Radio Shack? Another Captivate (obviously but how will it perform?) the Aria which my wife has but is too small for my taste, the Backflip (no way) or ??? RS doesn't carry the Xperia or iphones. If I flat out return it for my money back and just stick with my Nexus what is the deal with my contract? Null and void or am I stuck? Can I return it to a regular ATT store and get another phone there? I went with RS because the Captivate was $50 less than through ATT.
Honestly I think if you get an exchange you have a very good chance of getting one that will work right. The GPS issue will get resolved but in the meantime its really not as big of a deal as everyone frets over.
You cannot take the phone to ATT for a different one because they will know that you didnt buy it through them and therefore wont take it back. The other phones you mentioned that RS had are garbage compared to the Captivate.

AT&T has no other phones that can even compare to the captivate (besides the xperia or iphone like you said). Radioshack carries both of them via direct2u (ask an associate about it) which just means they ship you a brand new phone directly to your house for free so if you really don't want the captivate again you can pick one of those instead.
you have 30 days from the date you got your captivate to back out of the upgrade and un-extend your contract. After the first 30 you are stuck with the renew of your 2 year contract. you cannot return the captivate anywhere else besides radioshack (can be any radioshack).
Options:
*exchange it for another captivate (30 days to exchange for any other at&t phone and 90 days exchange for the same phone if defective)
*return it and have the upgrade reversed and get an xperia or iphone (both suck in my opinion, iphone 4 has lots of problems and xperia x10 only has android 1.6 with no update in sight)
*return it and have the upgrade reversed and go back to your nexus one
I work for radioshack so this are your actual options :/...good luck with your decision
Thanks for the input, I appreciate that you took the time to respond.
Thinking of buying a "refurbished" at&t captivate. does anybody have any advice to if the device is worth buying if it is refurbished, if any of you guys have bought it that way..and also is it really worth it in att network or should I be warned and wait till MARCHH! to switch over to another carrier ?
currently have a iphone 3g but i really want to switch over to android
Mine is a insurance replacement so it is refurbed, have had other refurbed phones and haven't had any problemss out of either. I love the phone itself. Go to any sub forum and you can tell the phone has gps issues, some worse then others. This is my 3rd (first couldn't go into recovery, and second was lost), and gps is worse then all the previous ones. Even with the problems, I still wouldn't give this phone up. Probably because I love the hardware and its my first android device and apple wasn't a choice for me. As for the network I hadn't any problems with att since 2004. I'm sure that depends on you location tho.

Two weeks ago I bought the HTC Aria with rebate for $29. Then another employee wrote saying they wanted to upgrade their phone, and wanted the Captivate. I looked online and saw that it was $299. A few days go by and he agrees to the price, and when I go to order it, lo and behold ATT has refurb for $50 each! I bought two, one for him and one for me . I like the aria and it is now my backup, but I love the Captivate and for $50, it's hard to go wrong.
tl;dr, buy it.
Did the refurb unit have any signs of use or scratches or anything? I might get one soon too.
Go for it..it's a great phone. Just make sure you can check it out in person first,or can return it if broken.
Mac
I got a refurb.
And it's perfect. Looks brand new. And no problems
I have a refurb......... no major issues. One thing to look for though.......... I got my first one 4 days ago, worked fine, but after being on for a little bit the battery went completely dead after being on standby for 30 min. yeah, something was wrong with the battery, on top of that it would randomly exit me out of screens.
turned out they sent me one that had NOT been fixed yet, their boo boo. They sent me out a new one and I got it today. This one looked brand new, all the stickers from samsung still on it and everything. Let it charge and turned it on....... no more issues.
It lags a little and the battery life REALLY sux, but those are issues with brand new ones also. I turned on my task killer and put the security level to low so that I could kill everything but non essential apps. Now the battery life seems MUCH better. It seems like this phone takes a long time to charge as well though. I think i wll just allow the battery to fully drain then plug it in, see if that will work, maber get rid of any potential battery memory.
Thanks for the help, appreciate it....I ordered it already and should get it in 2-5 business days so i will post back on my thoughts!
cant wait to start using the android OS!!!!
I am on a refurb now. I love this thing. No [hardware] issues at all.

i have a refubished phone and its better than the new one I had
I got a new Samsung Captivate and it keeps rebooting on me at random and the keys (especially back key) are really bad. They dont recognzie my touch half the time unless I press really hard on them.
My question is....if I get a replacment how will I be able to tell if its a refurb or not?
Are the refubs typically better since they have had more extensive testing?
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
with anything there are defect but these phones are built like a rock and if you think about it, if there is a x probability that a device has a defect the probability that it has 2 is x^2(in theory, obviously the nature of the defect factors in) so if the phone had a defect that was fixed there is a pretty slim chance that it will be defective after it is repaired.
i wouldn't worry about a refurbished phone, there may be cosmetic damage ect. but i would recommend this phone to anyone on build quality alone. wear and tear related problems should be minimal. id say go for it.
I had 3 refurb fuzes and 2 razr9s. Only real problem you have to worry about is physical defects. Hinges mostly. If there is a software or hardware problem you can send it back.
Edit: you can also get insurance on an unused refurb through at&t
From a phone on an app
Any one who has replaced a phone using insurance or warranty thru ATT is most likely using a refurbed phone. I have replaced every phone i have ever had in 10 years with ATT due to my being really hard on phones at work and all the replacements have been refurbed. I personally have never had an issue with a refurb, they all lokked and performe like new. I actually just got my cappy a few weeks ago and ordered the refurb cause i knew i would end up with one anyway.( and got lucky in doing so and got a batch 1007 phone so my 3button download mode doesnt get wiped.)
Works Perfecly and only set me back $50
I messed up my first captivate. Was able to return it through warranty and got a refurbished unit. I have been using it for 3 months with no issues. Of coarse there is no guarantee

Hey there,
Thinking of picking up a used Galaxy S..
My one concern is the internal SD issues that many people had, where they've had to send it back to Samsung for a replacement.
Is there a time limit on when they'll accept returns in case the one i buy has the same issue? Do i need receipt, etc?
Thanks
OK I got burned by that phone twice. The first time was when it was released. The second time was with this summer's hardware version where it shouldn't have happened, but it still happened to me.
I'm done with the i9000m and moved on to the i9000t since I need the 850/1900 3G bands, and I don't care about using KIES since I rather use Odin anyway...

i ended up getting an s2 for myself, but now looking at getting a used cheaper phone for the gf... i9000 seems to be the best but the bell version's defect is the one thing holding me back from picking one up on kijiji.
if it does have the defect, is there a usual time that it happens, or it could happen anytime (first month, or even after a year of normal use)?
And should i assume the Virgin Mobile Canada version is the same as the Bell ?
If she deserves for something cheap only, buy her Nokia 1100, or... switch gf.

lol, well by cheaper i mean it doesn't have to be as powerful. my first choice would be a nexus s, but she wants expandable memory for music.
I bought a Bell Vibrant I9000m second hand (got the box, original packaging, etc), and the internal SD failure did happen and I was pretty upset. However, I called Samsung, they asked for my serial number for the phone, and then sent me a shipping label to have it serviced, free of charge. This was all possible because fortunately for me, the phone was still under warranty.
If the I9000m you purchase is still under warranty, Samsung will honor that and replace any hardware failures free of charge. This whole process took about 1.5 weeks which isn't too bad, but is highly inconvenient since I lost all my data in the internal SD.
I love the nexus 7. My device had the screen lifting issue and I am getting it exchanged. No complains with the exchange policy or the timing. Understand first batch of hardware faces problems but thats a small price to pay for being the early adopter.
What I am concerned with - given how prominent this screen lifting issue is- i hope google/asus is not recycling. That is, i hope they don't take my device, tightened the screw/put on new ones, factory reset, wipe it, put it in a new box and ship it out to the next guy. Coz that means the device i'm getting soon will be someone else's failed device; and given i have already tightened my screw without success, i am wary of my next device showing the same kinda progression after some use.
Furthermore, what if i get a device that had more screen issues that some unlucky folks here are talking about (i feel for them, but mine was perfect, i love the device and every aspect of it, except for just the screen listing issue). I don't want to end up with a hardware that has experienced the screen lifting issue (hence returned and recycled) and/or other screen issues that few folks have talked about. I want a brand new device - from a new batch - but i know that may be asking too much.
What do you guys think? Anybody got their's exchanged yet? If so, what are your experiences with the second device?
I guess it depends on what they told you when you asked for a replacement. If they said you were getting a new then that's what you will get. And honestly at this point they probably don't even have stocks of refurbs yet so they couldn't even send you one if they wanted.

Well, they just said "we'll send you a replacement". Did not mention new or refurb. As for stock running out, I had to be on hold for about 30 minutes (high call volume). So i'm guessing there's a lot of devices coming back and i am wondering if those will be sold later as refurbished products or sent right back out? I don't know manufacturer policies, do all devices that get sent back (even within the first two weeks) fall in the refurb category?
I just ordered a replacement for mine too for the same reason and the replacement order actually says "Nexus 7 16GB Tablet UK - New", so if there are any signs of the one I receive being anything but brand new, I will be very unhappy!
As noted, since our orders say "New" on them, Google would be breaking all sorts of laws if they send out refurbs as new.
