[Q] Running custom ROM, can't receive calls??? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know others have recently reported issues of not being able to make or receive calls. Mine is not quite the same.
I am able to call anyone, any time, but no one can call me. If they are lucky, my phone will (once in a blue moon) send them to my vm and they'll be able to leave me a vm. However, more typically, they will get a few rings and then a fast-busy signal. What's even more strange is that I will know someone is calling because the icon in my notification bar (whether it's H or 3G) will be replaced for a split second with a circle with a line through it, and my phone will short-sequence vibrate really quickly.
Again, this is not a signal strenght issue as I've tested it in different regions (totally different states) and this is not an issue tied to running one particular ROM, as I've flashed multiple ROMs (flashing back to stock in between each new ROM flash) and the result is the same.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Quick Edit: The phone does again ring as normal when flashed back to stock so I'm entirely positive that this issue is due, in some measure, to ROM flashing, but can't put my finger on the specifics.

Would help to know what rom you are using. Also, you could try posting in the rom thread. Quickly, it sounds like you may need to reflash modem. Might be easier to flash stock, wipe and then reflash the rom.

[Q] samsung captivate wont answer calls

I have a samsung captivate. It is a early model, I got it the day they became available. The phone will not always answer an incoming call. the green answer button comes up but will not swipe. Anyone else have this problem? Will froyo cure this?
Youre gonna need to add some more info....
are you on stock 2.1?
if you did flash a custom Rom which one and which kernel/ modem are you using?
Did you do a restore with titanium? (this is where I had problems when I flashed)
captivate wont answer incoming calls Sometimes
yes complete stock, no mods whatsoever
I had a problem like this when I first got my Captivate as well. My problem was that it wouldn't swipe all the way across the screen. This got very frustrating while driving. The solution, surprisingly, was to make sure my hands weren't completely dry. Without traction on the screen my phone didn't register my fingers.
I don't know if that'll help but there are also other dialers out there on the market that you can try legitimately without rooting or flashing a different ROM (if you're trying to avoid doing those things).
I would do a flash back to stock and do a master clear to rule out any software issues. You can do this without having to root. You just wont be able to back up your apps and system config.

It is and always has been completly stock.
Are you rooted? I had this problem every now and then... not very often.. I figured it was due to one of the apps I was running in the background, that was sucking up all the RAM and the phone became unresponsive. I backed up my apps, and flashed stock and then restored only the ones I absolutely wanted... I am sorry, I dont remember which app it was, just know that it was a background process that was collecting some kind of stats! Hope that helps!
By the way how long ago did this start happening?

The time it took you to go back and forth on this forum, you could have flashed back to stock and master clear to troubleshoot. The problem isn't going to fix itself.

Thanks for all the HELPFUL input
I will try flashing stock
This may be a common sense answer but usually when it doesnt swipe all the way accross for me its because of to much grease ( or sweat) on my hands or on the screen like after lengthy phone calls or if my hands are dirty or something. Try cleaning the screen well, and washing your hands and such. Always fixed for me.
by swipe do you mean it doesnt move at ALL or it goes half way or you cant get it all the way to the other side to answer?
Yeah, i know that when i first turn on my phone and try swiping, nothing will happen, it will just stay green and not respond. After leaving my phone on for a couple of minutes, it usually corrects itself.
This is also a common problem for stock users wanting to use a lockscreen replacement (i.e. widgetlocker).
If you try using widgetlocker without any lagfix, you can get phone call screens you can't interact with for a few seconds.
I have had a similar issue both stock and rommed. I find a lot of time it does have something to do with friction on the screen but also if I have low signal it will happen as well. My phone will actually freeze up to the point of having to remove the battery, this same thing happened on my old Samsung Blackjack II.

calls go onto mute mode

I live in the UK and have samsung galaxy s - am with orange network.
This weird behavior on my phone started about 2-3 weeks ago.
while talking on the phone, the phone goes onto mute mode. but its not really mute. We just cant hear each other. hope that made sense.
if i hang up and try to make the call again, it does the same thing .. straight onto mute. or if the other person tries to ring back, same thing, phones connect but cant hear each other.
This happened quite alot and iit also happened when i got a text message etc
I've been getting ads on my phone and also being charged for content upload. nothing that I know of or subscribed too.
I thought my phone was just 'clogged' up so I decided to set it back to factory settings.
Its been working fine but again today, after half n hour, it did the same thing. I can send text messages fine. Its an improvement because before it happened about 10 mins into the call. But then again I've not used my phone alot.
does anybody know why? please help!
ohh - my firmware is 2.1. i cant get kies to work on any of the computers so i can update
I don't know a solution to your problem but would say one thing.. if you are still on 2.1, you are missing a lot of stuff.. the performance improvements in 2.2 and 2.3 are just huge..
If you can't get kies to connect, then download your region's rom manually from sammobile.com and flash using odin.. you'll get the newest firmware and as it'll be a completely fresh install, maybe your problem will also go away..
^ Thank you .. but I still dont understand ROM and stuff .. I need to research it first befre I attempt upgrading my phone.
Is there a tutorial on this site (step by step lol)
Is there anyone else that knows whyI'm having the problem? It happened againt today right when i called because I was 'charging' my phone as i made the call. I think thats how the issue started originally. I was charging my phone in the car and decided to call my sister.
Did I short circuit something
There is a very in-depth sticky by darkstriker. Should tell you all you need to know about flashing.
Go to general and read the sticky thread.
If you've got questions after reading it, post them here mate.
I'm on orange UK too.

[Q] [i9000]receiving calls issue - no ringtone/notification

Hello,
I own a 2 yrs+ old samsung i9000, which for the last month was my 2nd phone, when i started playing with roms and all the great stuff one can find in this forum (before was my work phone, i could not risk to brick it). Anyway, it’s rooted, unlocked, CM 9.1 , I9000XXJVU baseband, Devil's kernel
Problem is, sometimes randomly when someone is trying to call me, the phone doesn’t react, no ringtone, notification or entry in missing calls log. On the caller side everything is normal, rings few times after that the voicemail starts. It’s very hard to reproduce the problem, seems totaly random, and is not carrier related.
I know, the quick answer is “go back to gingerbread” but what i need are some suggestions from where to start trying to find a solution; i should try new modems? or maybe phone.apk is damaged (sometimes says it stops working after i end a call). I will provide all the details needed, thanks in advance

HTC One UK Three, back to stock? Which ROM?

Hey,
So basically since rooting my phone and installing a custom ROM the incoming audio on my phone-calls goes dead intermittently whilst in call, it will come back in after about 40seconds, but can cut out again in the same phonecall. It has caused me way too much embarrassment trying to talk to contacts for my work.
The phone also got stuck on a re-boot loop after getting damp in a pocket during some rain. It dried out just fine, but this happened at roughly the same time I went to a custom ROM so it could be a hardware fault, although its intermittent nature makes me think software.
So I want to be able to test if its the custom ROM by going back to stock, if the problem persists I need to be back in stock so I can send it off for repair.
So my main question is where do I find an 'official' Three UK ROM? I was pretty sure I had backed up my original install but now cant seem to find it after going through a few different ROM's and radios.

As there is no stock RUU for 3UK. I'd recommend flashing http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-771-3-zip/
Making sure you select all of the "stock options" (eg radio, recovery etc).
Just what I was looking for, thanks.

Can't accept most incoming calls

I'm not a noob by any means. I've done all the normal troubleshooting. I've looked for other similar topics and none exist for this phone. I've tried everything that I can think. Having said that, please excuse me if i missed anything.
Basically, my issue is that I can't accept 95% of my incoming calls. I try to.... And the call hangs up when I press answer. I have the regular stock google dialer. I'm stock but rooted and unencrypted. I realize this may have to do with LTE still being on and not H+ but it's really annoying. It does switch to H+ but still hangs up.
I tried a few custom ROMs and the issue still exists. I've ensured that notifications are checked in the dialer app.
Someone please help me. Maybe I'm missing something simple. It's really annoying not being able to accept a call and having to call people back for every call received.
Please and thanks
And now I've officially tried EVERY ROM for this phone and still.... Can't answer incoming calls. Ugh. Someone please help
Have you tried updating your radio? Have you tried setting your phone in non-LTE so at most it only utilizes H+/H/3G?
Have you cleared cache and tried it in safe mode?
@zephiK thank you for the ideas. Flashed the new radio from your thread... Issue still persists. I haven't gone to just 3g yet because I use my phone a lot for work (law enforcement) and need the LTE speed when identifying people
Edit: tried using 3g and 2g anyways.... Still hangs up whenever I answer incoming calls. Ugh

I have cleared both cache and dalvik cache. I can't get safe mode to work..... I'm using liquid smooth at the moment and when holding power off it doesn't show the option for safe mode
Well I figured out holding reboot gives the safe boot option. My phone bootlooped. I'm going to have to totally undo everything on my phone. Lock and unroot my phone. Then I'll start over using only stock without unlocking or rooting first then continue this trouble shoot.
If anyone can think of anything else please let me know thank you and merry Christmas
I had the same issue with mine. I thought I was going crazy. Hope you get it worked out. I sent mine back to Motorola yesterday for a refund.

Update : Solved....
I wiped everything and started over. I flashed stock and went into safe mode. Calls worked. So it was easy to figure out... It was a downloaded app. A call blocker that was blocking everything instead of just the calls it was supposed to.
Thank you to those who offered opinions, suggestions, and comments
I had the same issue with the N5 on att. Was rooted and used a tool that opened a Sprint "only" service menu. Played with a setting and boom, i had voice. Data worked no problem throughout this ordeal.
Have the same problem with a Nexus 6, suddenly the phone did not show up any incoming call screen/window or way to slide out to answer an incoming call. It rings but there is not way to answer the call, even trying to go to the task bar and see if there is a window up there to answer it, no notification or window to press and answer.
This phone is not rooted nor have an application to block calls. it is with lollipop 5.01.
Any ways to solve this horrible bug? This bug is driving me nuts.
