i live in the US if that matters. and i have tired the update under settings>about phone>system updates. but when i download it and then it verifies it just says download again not install. so i restarted my phone to see if it would work but it still says im running 1.5
Need a lil more background info. Is your phone rooted? What 1.6 firmware are you trying to load (a custom or official)?
What was the source of the update you downloaded? Have you tried a different copy of the update?
Yea what file were you trying to flash?
Hey everyone,
My boss at work just got a nexus one and I tried updating him to FroYo using the same method that worked on my phone. When trying to run it I get a message that states....
E: Cant open / cache/recovery/command
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: file)getprop("/system/build.prop" , "ro.build.fingerprint') == "google/passions/passion/mahimahiL2,1-update1/ERE27/24178:user/release-keys" ||
E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
Anyone know what would cause this??
Does the phone have 2.1 update 1 installed already. Out of the box the N1 ships with 2.1.
Update to 2.1 update 1, then update to Froyo and it should work.
By chance do you have a link to 2.1.1 update?
Sorry just got the boss on my ass right now ....lol
I think this is what you're looking for. Ya might want to do a google search on the filename and just make sure though.

Firefox gives me an untrusted connection on that link, but its all fine. Thats the official update from google.
Thanks man .. my next paycheck is yours .. you saved my job
Seriously you rock dude thanks

I've tried a lot of different methods and update zips, but it's always the same error:

Cyanogenmod's GAPPS package is at the bottom of the following page:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Gapps#Google_Apps
Simply flash through ClockworkMod Recovery. You will then have Market, GMail, etc.
And another which i'd like to know is about the camera, there's loodz of black dots when camera is opened

thanks in advance .....hurry guys
You shouldn't put the update.zip file in OR folder. As the error message showed you should put it in your sdcard root directory and keep it as update.zip.
Good luck to you!
Thanks mate ! fixed that extremely happy bout it !
I'm currently on Oreo firmware OPSS27.104-92-4 and I'm trying to flash the Pie upgrade found here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/
I've tried to give Motorola Update Services storage permission and place the downloaded .zip file into the root directory of internal storage but it's not finding the update. I've also tried to ADB sideload but I get an error.
ADB error:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: footer is wrong
Update package verification took 0.0 s (result 1).
E: Signature verification failed
E: error 21
Installation aborted.
Do I need to downgrade to a previous version?
same here, must be bad OTA file.. did you find one that works?

That's not an update zip. It's a full firmware package.
Fastboot.
Or use RSDlite
Or use "XML to batch" to create a batch script to flash it for you
