Fastest rom/tips for speed - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
I have developed the barebones android build for the kaiser but now I want WM to add more up time for my phone due to a new job. I have Phoenix 3.1 on the phone right no with NeoS' driver pack and this phone runs damn slow. My old ppc6700 ran much faster in 6.5 . So I ask, what build runs the fastest and what can I do to make the 2D not lag to **** when im scrolling.

hey you !!! why do not you try this, maybe these little application could solve the problem on your device....

w2003SE vs w5.0

I see that we still have a lot problems with w5 on our beloved blue angels.
Now, my question is: what is a major benefit to go from fast and reliable SE 2003 to W 5.0?
it's sluggish, unstable.
so, why we all upgrading-downgrading our devices up and down, is this a justified action to get a better OS or our desire to try something new?
Something new.
WM5 is a lot better than WM2003 but the problem is that there is no specefic official version of wm5 for blueangel, so developers reverse engineer other versions of WM5 and the leaked one from MS , to create stable OS. Latest WM5 versions are quite stable. None forces you to try WM5 if you don't like it downgrade and use WM2003
it's not about forcing me or someone to use w5.0, but what's better in this OS, what do you mean by saying better ? speed, stability extra functionality ?
I simply like it better
Its like WinMe vs WinXP
Well said TB. Kinda like, why are people instrested in Windows Vista? Windows XP work dunit? Acuttaly, don't answer that one.
Guys, you are talking very subjectivly:
like-don't like.
win me and win xp is quite dif. OS. Upgrading to XP gives us very stable reliable system with much more functionalities.
I simply like to see what extra features are in wm5, which are not available in SE.
so far we have OS with not 100% working BT, MMS, terrible ActiveSync, poor phone, etc.
I am very grateful to guys workimg on these ROMs, and thank them of course, but my question: is wm5 better than SE at all and what this better stuff is?
COM,
flashing OS takes about 15 mins. So, flash WM5, play with it. U can always go back to WM23.
And Wm5 to Wm2 is not like ME to XP. More like Win2K vs Win2K+service packs.
Well for me its a Me vs XP (My SE kept crashing and crashing, doublesending the same SMS, not sending MMSes at all, freezing when cancelling calls). WM5 drops Bluetooth connections, does strange things with the hw keyboard and works quite slow (I overclocked the CPU to 531MHz, it works... usable). But at least I can use my PHONE as a PHONE.
I agree with TB
I have many problems with 2003SE, 3-4 daily resets, because it hangs, when the battery and backup battery drains out you loose everything(such as in hard reset). I have no such problems with WM5 it is much stable and it is slower than 2003 but in the recent WM5 roms (Ivan's and Tuatara) the speed is improved and stability is much better than 2003SE
I like WM5 because it looks better, and the soft keys are very usefull. and you get to show off the nice and hard work of Mamaich, Tuatara and all others and say that xda-dev kicks ass!!!!
well, from what you are saying: wm5 is more stable !
Thanks, this is an advantage no doubt. let's hope we will soon get the final version from our gurus here.
By the way, should wm5 be a hardware independent OS, like windows XP and portable from one PDA to another?
Better not - due to XP's portability it eats up so much resources :| If you wanna try it yourself - Linux for example compiles (is compiled ) in order to match the HW configuration of the computer, while WindowsXP 'HasItAll, but mostly unusefull for your current hardware' :|
A new OS, which prevents your data from loss even at significant battery discharge, comfortable control without a stylus, improved Office Mobile. Noticeable cosmetic advantages.
...
Will there every be a BA Official WM5 release
no, microsoft made one and distrobuted it to the telecos but it is there decision whether to release it. as far as i can tell they will never do this as it doesn't make buisiness sense, why give a free wm5 update away when if you keep it too yourself people are gonna buy a new phone to get it?
but.. we are keeping our phones anyway hehehehe
(that's why we are on this phorum. Anyway..)
Hi,
I am using O2 XDA IIs for more than 8 months. I eagerly waited for the O2 update, as HP had offered to its ipaqs. But it was very disappointing that , instead of giving software updates; o2 started to show new models with Windows Mobile 5.0. I tried even from Microsoft site for upgrades, but that was a futile attempt. Then I finally decided to upgrade from XDA-developres.
You have to understand that major advantafe of WM5 over the Wm2003se is that data is not volatile; so there is no need to backup now and then.Secondly fast and secure. The major problem is that it needs faster processor. I hope it is helpful.

WM5 is slower than WM2003SE. WM5 best offering is persistent storage.
It is because it has NAND based rom. So, it doesnt offer XIP
Yes it is a lil slower than 2003 but it hte rom is properly build (Ivan and Tuatara roms) you will find no diference for speed, bu you will find a lot more stability. The CPU is not so important, we see devices with 200 MHz CPU to run WM5 just fine (Prophet and Wizard), of course they have a lil problems with multitasking but thay have only 200 MHz CPU, so you have to expect some lag. Blueangel have more than enough resources to run and operate WM5, we just need a properly tweaked rom for this device.

NewHTC 6.1 ROM : another reason to stop buying HTC !!!

Hello, I just would like to give a feedback of my usage of the last HTC 6.1 ROM.
The good thing :
- HTC Dialer is a lot faster than the 6.0 dialer (Thanks god !!!). But I guess I could use it with the old HTC 6.0 ROM.
The bad things :
- For IGO 8 to work I need to disable the "HTC Home", the "A-GPS" feature, and soft reset my device !!!! That means I won't use IGO 8 anymore, and that was my favorite GPS application.
- SPB Backup does not work anymore
- NO CAMERA IMPROVEMENT : still the same ****, slow and blurry.
- Performance issues with my SDHC card : all read/writes done from the Kaiser to the SDHC card are very very very slow.
- my device freezes all the time !!! I have to wait for 10-20 seconds before I can use it again. EDIT : since I stoped using "Quick Menu" this, problem disapeared ... So another usefull application I can't use anymore !
- performances are lower !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just talk about using the device, the way it displays the menus, the way applications come to the screen, it's really slower than the original HTC 6.0 ROM I had !!!!
So one more time, HTC shows how they deal with their customers :
"don't worry, we will make an update with performances improvements" ...
instead the performances have decreased, absolutly nothing have been improved, and I meet a lot of compatibility problems !!!!!!!
So think twice before installing this f***ing ROM !!!!
How can HTC put on the market such an unfinished/untested product ???!!!!
I just realized they just did the same with the Kaiser ...
Hi,downgrade to wm6 because my pda became crazy !
Same thing : my official microsd card with Nav and Go doesn't work, and the rest too.We must say a big thanks to HTC !!!
Please then, do not use the HTC Rom. We have a lot of Very Good Chefs that will make your problems go away. (If you ask them nicely0

Hi,
Did you pull off the microsd before upgrading ?(perhaps the upgrade process
corrupted the card)
Perhaps you could try (trial period) pocket mechanics pro(from wizzcode)
to reformat your sd+scandisk , it is a very reliable soft.
I had a worry to upgrade the official rom with vista, so i had to make the upgrade with a winxp desktop.
For time being, i found an improvement in the sound volume(phone usage)
and my bluetooth earpiece(nearly inaudible before).
Some softs are faster when launching(P.M.Pro for example) and sprite backup
(i upgraded from the light edition to the full one 6.22) works well under wm6.1.
But for the rotation screen when sliding the keyboard, i didnt notice any
progress.(i dont watch movies/videos on my kaiser, so unable to tell if it is better)
The only bad and good thing when upgrading:
i wasnt able to restore all my softs with my backup(some registry bugs)
so i had to reinstall all (tomtom6, sprite,netfront,pocket informant,etc)
boring but it has the advantage to start from fresh install.
One problem, windows mobile center(under vista) has some difficulties to
synchronize my kaiser.(i had to do some "menage" in my outlook 2002 appointments).
regards from France

I think that we must all realize that in this day and age of " give me more now" software development we have seen the last, long ago, of the finished, polished , stable software release. Look at Vista and Leopard and the such. Both operating systems were beseiged by bugs and incompatabilities. Vista is getting better but still crap.
We are going to have to get used to getting Beta versions of everything. Yes, HTC makes the bulk of their money off of hardware. As unacceptable as it might seem they are not going to spend millions in R and D and beta testing on upgrades they give away for free. Perhaps if we were willing to pay $100 or $200 or so for a software upgrade, like Vista or Leopard we would get a better finished product, or not. Everyone still got a beta of Vista.
My point is , this is it . We wanted it now. We wanted it free. We got the Beta. We tested it , it sucks ,give them the feed back and push for patches. Unacceptable ? Yes but, like the current gas prices, it is the reality of the situation.
Yes,i remove each time sim card and memory card before flashing.I think i'm not alone to have problems with french update ( cf french forum ) .I've downgraded with wm6 and everything works fine again .
reading through the frustrating experiences makes me feel better. so i am no alone. how absolutely unprofessional of htc. i hope palm comes out with its new OS quickly. my windows mobile adventure is eating up my time.
how can i downgrade again?
i need the original 6.0 Ger rom
Hi,
Sorry for the slight variation on topic, but I just logged into my HTC E-club and could not find the WM6.1 Update, am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks.
Same issues for me as you folks. I dumped it like the smelly crap it is and reloaded with dutty's hybrid. This one I'm diggin'.Very stable, awesome actually.

it seems most of your issues are compatibility with applications. shouldn't you be complaining to the developers about these? I'm sure they will fix those up to make them run smoothly with 6.1, I don't think it's fair to blame HTC for application incompatibility with a *new* OS.
maybe do an HR and see if you still have issues [except the driver issue because we all know they didn't fix that]
sometimes it's good to wait for apps/devs to catch up before updating to ensure that your apps a working well with your new OS.
just my 2 cents. peace
Guys, a little help please...
I need to downgrade to WM6.0.
Where can I get the official Portuguese ROM for KAISER???
Thanks in advance
here's a fix for the freezes:

I disagree with what you say. Most of the Windows Mobile 5.0 applications were working on the WM 6.0. I never loosed so many applications (and I didn't try all of them yet) with an update which is not supposed to be a major update (6.0 to 6.1).
My biggest issue is the IGO 8 application which does not work because of an HTC application : HTC Home.
So now, if I want to run IGO 8, I must disable some tabs of HTC Home (contacts, weather, music ...) which were essential to me.
When I bought my Kaiser, I also bought HTC home which I cannot use now.
I also noticed that since I installed 6.1, HTC home does slow down my device and is responsible for some freezes of it. If I remove HTC home from the today screen, no freezes !
So this is definitly an HTC problem !
Firstly, this is not an HTC problem. It is a Windows Mobile (Microsoft) problem.
Every device is different.
What works well on mine, might not work on yours for obvious reasons.
Folks are quick to criticise HTC because they don't know any better or don't understand the problem.
Why "upgrade" to wm 6.1? wm 6.0 works perfectly well.
And btw, Vista is NOT crap. I have been using Vista Business for over a year now without problems. You really just need to figure things out.
Don't fix it if it aint broke.
Guys thanks a lot!! I intended to upgrade to the official ROM, but now I stay with Dutty's.
It saves me a lot of time.

1) "HTC Home" IS an HTC product... And it is the source of a lot of problems in the 6.1 ROM (just read what I wrote).
2) Why upgrading to 6.1 : because HTC said the performances will be increased. And the performances where an issue in 6.0 (and still are in 6.1).
I waited for an upgrade, seems like I got an downgrade. Device with this big price tag should perform well out of the box.
This is what i think.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395110
allright... I've done downgrading to latest wwe 6.0.
6.1 is a real crap- do not let some ppl fool You- there is no speed gain at all.
what more, it's slower than ever.
simple tests: I have opened a web page in opera mini on both 6.0 (stock t-mob and latest wwe) and 6.1 (stock wwe, plk and leo's diamond v2) and guess what- on 6.0 scrolling is smooth on 6.1 visible screen tearing occurs.
second test was 3 minutes of doom2 e1m1- again, visible and annoying screen tearing on 6.1. no fps gained at all.
the other thing is that 6.1 doesn't support card export II and have many other more or less irritating bugs.
I am seriously considering swapping my Vario III for N95 8GB, but still hesitating. with tweaked 6.0 it is a quite nice machine, qwerty keyboard is a big + aswell... I dunno. I shall see...
anyway- br and good luck to all with their devices.
bro
Just chiming in with my $0.02 worth, that the 6.1 upgrade works fine for me. I'm only running very minimal 3rd party apps (aside from TomTom), so compatibility hasn't been a problem for me.
The RF quality of the phone seems much-improved, I don't notice (without benchmarking tools) a big perceptible speed difference from a user's point of view.

Games not working(6.5 Energy ROM 3.0) - rom issue, resolutions issue, or fone issue?

Hello there,
I wonder if you can help me, I have up until now been the user of a HP 614c (running windows mobile 6.5 - used various builds) but recently I have upgraded and got myself a HTC touch pro/ Raphael which I straight away updated to the energy ROM 3.0 (windows 6.5) from the ROM development section, however, for some reason I am finding alot of the games for windows CE that I had working on my HP 614c are not working on the HTC touch pro ..
I find that on starting the game the screen goes blank and sometimes you can hear the music and nothing else?
Is this an issue with compatibilty with the phone, or the rom, is it because of the g sensor? I have no idea ... some of the games work perfectly well but a vast majority of them just blank out which is a shame .
I have looked at all settings and been tinkering for ages and still come to no conclusion, I find it strange as the HTC touch pro has the equivalent specs to the HP 614c but with extra capability ? and the windows 6.5 software I have installed have stemmed from the same pre release builds ??
Any one have any ideas?
Wouldnt normally bother me so much,
but my much loved 'arcade games for adults' didnt run which was the last straw
I am not sure if I can live with out b00by breakout etc hehehe
You can try it...
you are the man! they all work fine now
just out of interest what does that cab file do exactly? wat does it change to enable this to now work ?
I have noticed that there is a clash with the HTC touch flo 3d software tho, but if u take that off the today menu it runs perfectly ... which it didnt do before installign the fix

6.5 Roms SLOW on x1

Ok so maybe the only here experiencing this? i hope not.
thus far i've tried a bunch of roms like the
Christian_WWE_3607_Full,
EnergyROM_28008_KOVSKY_02.Dec.2009_Standard,
x1_firestorm_v5.0.28005LEO-MAX
i like them all however i favor ..the energyrom ...
the only issue is they all are slow... boot up is ridiculous.
so i restored my device to a 6.1 official rom and the device is suddenly very pleasant and fast.
with that said I'd really really really like to switch to 6.5... why are these roms slow?
is it a 3d driver issue? i installed the x2 display driver on my current 6.1 rom and .. well its already quick so i dont know if it made a difference. do i need to install the same driver on the 6.5 roms?
please advise.
6.5 Roms SLOW on X1i
I too am finding Roms based on Manilla 2.5 slow. Using Roms with Manilla 2.1 are much more sprightly but lack a few of the features in 2.5.
Think about an old computer with preinstalled window xp. What happen if you decide to upgrade to Vista? it will slow down the computer for sure and this is why sony doesn't have official winmo 6.5 upgrade for xperia. Anyway, Gtrab and Jerp are two fastest ROMS I experienced so far.

uh. no. this doesnt apply.
the x1 is hardly a "slow computer".. your comparison doesntly apply.
i brought up the d3 driver because that maybe it considering its not an official rom from SE meaning maybe something is missing?
Umm, well, zizoty, why does X2 has nearly same specs, but is coming with 6.5? It's just about optimization I believe. 6.5 Roms without manila (Like SEX1 5.7) do work smoothly and fast actually.
You guys are right! I guess we all have to wait for the official release of x2 and dump it content into the X1.
if someone wants to try the x2 display driver with 6.5 rom the link is:
http://dc172.4shared.com/download/1...ideo_Driver.zip?tsid=20091204-145003-8ad64942
i plan on trying it myself but i have to flash to a 6.5 rom first. ...
if you do try the driver with winmo 6.5 please report if you notice any improvement and with what rom.
for the slowing problem, try changing the pagepool, you can find the link in this forum easily.
Anyway, usually, pagepool already changed to a larger number by the cooker
I have tried quite a few ROMs 6.5 and so on but I'm currently running a stock 6.1. Guess why.
I have tested OpenGL abilities of a few WM 6.5 ROMs, too bad I didn't actually write down the actual numbers, but I can say that the ROMs I tried all made the scores drop around 25%, and the X2 ATI drivers didn't help much. The stock ROM however, gets a little boost with the X2 drivers, which might not be worth, playing with the original ROM.

More Kaiser/Tilt Graphics improvements

I have been reading 1000's of posts on this great site. How was
slow graphics solved on the Kaiser/Tilt? I just searched
another few hours without solutions. Just lots of threads
complaining about the same thing and many ending in getting
other devices, etc, etc...
One of the bigger threads on the issues:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339745&page=109
which indicates there is still confusion and different ideas.
Polyrhythmic makes it sound like there is finally a decent solution
to speed up at least simple 2D drawing operations, including the
user interfaces of normal applications? What is this?
Where is a good solution to this?
polyrhythmic writes-
> Look around you at the 1000s of posts, and try the search button.
> We solved the graphics issue a long time ago.
jet writes-
I have been using the Tilt (original Kaiser) since the day it
came out. I think it is a great device. However, the
BIGGEST COMPLAINT I have always had was the SLOW graphics.
I am still running Windows Mobile 6.0 waiting for a
good / stable ROM to come out by someone with great
graphics performance. There have been some fantastic cooked ROMS
for the device but I have always held off waiting for
something with good graphics drivers in it. Did I miss
something that is worth moving to now that 6.1 and even 6.5
roms are out and about?
I have seen a lot of posts about which roms are best,
etc, etc and why but graphics performance has always been an
issue from what I have seen...
There are so many posts and even entire sites (see
below if interested) about our device and the poor
performance. Is there finally a decent solution to speed up
at least simple 2D drawing operations, including the
user interfaces of normal applications?
Does a good Mobile 6.1 or 6.5 ROM make much difference
in 2D or 3D on the Kaiser vs 6.0? Perhaps that
is the easiest solution to getting good graphics performance??!
Since the Tilt uses the MSM720x chipset and many other
devices use that chipset, has someone finally cooked a
rom for the tilt with good accelerated drivers from another
device yet and that is a good solution?
ALL COMMENTS WELCOME.
Of course good OpenGL ES and D3D acceleration would be great too.
Seems our device by default is only using software mode
Many now say our Kaiser is dead / "obsolete hardware" now and
decent drivers are not worth anyone's trouble.
I'm not sure what I think about this.
I understand there have been a million posts
and lots of threads like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339745&page=109
and even
http://www.htcclassaction.org/driverprogress.php#update_20080717_1
which seems to have ended over a year ago.
Perhaps that was when someone found a way of enabling
OpenGL ES on Android? Either way, can someone make some comments
on what they think?
Is this what you wanted?

I personally like shifu's roms there awesome. I'm using his 6.5 rom, but it seems he devs his 6.1 roms much more.. go grab one. you'll also get much more ram..
Final kasier 2d and 3d performance
Thanks for the input. The thread you mention links back to the site I
mentioned: www.htcclassaction.org.
Polyrhythmic says they solved the slow graphics a long time ago.
What is he talking about?
I have seen many times:
"These drivers do not accelerate video playback. These drivers do not accelerate normal Windows operation. Some of you have asked if we have abandoned accelerated 2D. We have not, it may still come. The simple fact is, that in this particular case, it was easier to work with the 3D drivers first"
Did decent/working/somewhat-finished 2D and 3D ever come to the kaiser?
It has the right hardware but no drivers. Seems they hacked on some but
never finished and abondoned the project, or am I wrong?
Perhaps someone solved the slow graphics another way? What was that?
Btw, thanks for the rom comments too. Always interested in
what the latest have. Also still hear Dutty made some of the all
time best for the device. Perhaps that is not true anymore?
Please link me to your current favorite 6.1 and 6.5 roms
with stability and graphics performance in mind. Love to hear why they
are your current favorites as well. I find the many roms incredible.
The video speed issue was never truely resolved, there are some drivers out that help with some 3D, but I think that's only for certain applications. The Tilt still runs very slow.

I'm using a Shifu 6.5 ROM. Pretty darn good imo.
But are you saying that there seems to be better performance with his 6.1 ROMs?
Thanks!
I have no idea. I've never tried his 6.1 rom, I was extremely pleased with his 6.5 and my rom is beefy customed now..
I have stuck with 6.5 because I am extremely happy with the performance. Seriously, i could say that my phone ruined my life cause I spent so much time on it (I'm joking). I can't get better than shifu's rom. Maybe there is one. But I tried quite a few and they where all better than stock, but shifu's seem to be the #1. I'm not sure if I tried TPC yet, and the new 6.5.3 has me raizing an eyebrow. I'm going to hold off from flashing for a while. I'd be sold if I heard of some voip improvements, i.e. the rtp ports don't behave right and that means the most I can have is 1 line (which sucks if I'm leaving a voicemail, and that same person calls me while im leaving it - call, call back, call call back is a process that gets on ppl's nerves). I'm running his v3, or v2 of his 6.5 rom. I have too much invested in it too just to flash up (lots of apps installed, a bunch of reg customs).. My voip is crystal clear, the volume is loud, you can hear a pindrop over the voice and I can take good cam videos. The android is getting there as soon as they fix the mic for real I'll have a working android phone. My active sync works perfect w/ google, so I have a calender service and push email. I'm saving a ton of money being on prepaid, having gizmo5 + google voice. My sms works via active sync and google voice so I have free sms (just alot easier to reply, than it is to start one, if I'm going to go through active sync). If not I just goto the browser where my default page is google voice.. The roms have all these speed tweaks like page pools, and stuff, not to mention video drivers soo its not just video drivers.. My rom is stable and fast and it doesn't freeze. I have pretty good battery life if the wifi is off, and I can get maybe 4-6 hours with it on. I just noticed that when I first got my 6.5 rom from shifu he kept updating the 6.1 roms and those version numbers have incremented much faster than his 6.5 his last release was about a month ago. His roms are damn good. I actually bought him a beer last night, and I don't buy people beer very often. The only other person to get anything out of me was cmonex cause she totally unlocked my bricked kaiser over irc she got a little more than a beer..
I've tried a few 6.5 roms and was about to go back to 6.1 (fone issues) when I ran across sakajati's HyperDragon IV Mega 6.5 CE OS 5.2.23081 Build 23081.5.3.0
It works fantastic!
