[Q] How to edit Share Menu in Android 2.2? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm new to Android and tried searching the web and here and found nothing.
Is there any app I can download that will allow me to edit the Share menu?
I have a bunch of apps that came with my Galaxy S that I don't use because I replaced them with better apps (i.e, Samsung email, default SMS app) but they continue to populate in the share menu.
This is driving me crazy. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

i have the same q.?

bump. you guys get it figured out? i have the same issue and posted in another forum asking the same thing. you can keep an eye on it there too in case they answer first. (i am bmoons on that one)
it wont let me link over there yet but its on android forums dot com

This is a known problem.
I think the way the apps appear in the menu is their manifest xml includes details that allow gallery to draw the details as opposed to them pushing their details into an editable menu.
So, delete the apps with something like super manager (rooted).

funny thing is i used titanium backup to uninstall the stock twitter app and its still there. some of those apps dont even have options. i use an app that downloads youtube videos and its in the share menu for some reason. i tried it on a video i recorded to see if maybe it would upload to my account and it doesnt do anything.
i hope they fix it. i dont like that picasa is an option but not even loaded on the phone anywhere that i can find. havent gone in with a root explorer. mostly because i know i will get cocky and delete stuff and ruin the phone

There's an app for that... almost
Andmade Share gives you a configurable Share item where you can edit what appears in its sub-menu. Second-best to what the OP requested, but better than nothing.

do you have Screenshot app .apk file

can someone help me. I've been looking forever for a way to download the screenshot app for t-mobile g1 but i can never find it does someone have it.
can you help me??????
I believe there is a paid app in the market.
i have tried that 100 times and all i see is 144 results and they are mostly
ahome themes
someone told me "You will need jf 1.5 for it to work though" but that for adp1 and i have the rc-33.. and i dont know the difference between both of them.
Check here for Screenshot app
-mannyb is right, no posting of warez "forum rule #6" my bad....-
You may need to register for the forums but I highly recommend it. I frequent their site as much as I do XDA.
would i be able to download the apk file there????
Not sure if linking to a forum with pirated apps is allowed here. I might be wrong though.
They have tons of apps and games there, but they just offer up links to the downloads. I still recommend signing up there but the direct link is;
hope you got to go download, i'd rather not lose my forum privileges by posting warez. I should have read the forum rules.
btw if anyone knows of a free screenshot app I would love to know.
I'm not sure if posting to a site like that is allowed or not, if it isn't the mods are more than welcome to delete my post. I'm not here to cause trouble, just here to help out my android brethren.
It looks like a useful site, no doubt.
thank you for that..... if you want you can take of the link if you think its a bad idea. i already downloaded it. how did you find that link??
i found the link to that site one day in my searching for other apps a while ago. it is a very useful site, but unfortunately yes it is mostly about pirating of apps.
thank you man.
know i just gotta mess with it,..
also i updated my rc-33 to a adp1 1.5 update and i lost my im app and autorotate and my theme so not i gotta fix those problems
dxtop does screen shots now...
and if you looked a page or two back, theres this exact same thread, and the exact same results..
Theres an a app thats part of the SDK that is for debugging that will take screenshots, I think its DDSK its real simple to use. just make sure you have the latest version of java installed.
open up a command prompt and navigate to android-sdk\tools then type in DDSK and it will open up the debugger then there is the option in the view menu to take screenshot once the phone is connected.
( you need to install the adb drivers for the phone and have the debug enabled settings>applications>development>enable debug)
The good thing about the screenshot app is that you can take a screen shot pic even when you in the bathroom. Your way is fine its just limited to using only when your on your computer.

[SOLVED] Is There a Way to Hide Icons without LauncherPro?

Hi guys!
I've been searching around for a simple solution to OC/neat-freak people such as myself...
What has been bothering me for the longest time is the fact that some apps that don't really do anything still add an icon to the app drawer even if it is never needed.
Ex. Document Scanner's Add-On (It is literally just a second icon leading to the same program)
There are also some apps that are needed for other people but I, myself, really do not need to see or access them.
Ex. SuperUser, BusyBox
And there are others that come right out of the box courtesy of Google but I can't uninstall because it will mess things up.
Ex. Google Talk
I eventually found a solution to this using LauncherPro and other launcher alternatives since they all have the feature of hiding whatever application icon you choose...but the thing is:
I don't really like the look of it. I want to stick to the default look of my Samsung Galaxy S (Yes, I like TouchWiz!) It looks a lot nicer, IMHO. And it feels so much smoother also. I also like to organize my app drawer the way I want which is easy to do with TouchWiz.
I know Android ideally uses the homescreens for all the apps you need or use the most and everything else gets hidden in the app drawer..but I like keeping my homescreens tidy with widgets and very few shortcuts only.
So I was wondering...if LauncherPro can implement the feature of app hiding (which really just shows a list of all your apps and let's you check whatever apps you want hidden) then isn't there a mod or a simple app out there or that can be made that simply does this? I don't mind paying a bit.
* After a bit of digging, I came across an old thread on this forum by Irrenhaus about his Advanced Launcher. He apparently customized the launcher that came with Cyanogen (I only skimmed his post, sorry!) where he implemented a lot of great features like folders in the app drawer, app icon hiding and the like. I am very much interested in these features...but again I really don't want to change the look of my Samsung Galaxy S.
* I saw a lot of people posting the TouchWiz Launcher apk for use with other phones... is it possible then to just modify the twlauncher.apk file and implement these other features just like Irrenhaus did? If so, can someone go about doing this for me? I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount. I really do not know how to do this on my own...
* I saw some random dead-end posts in other forums that state that by deleting a line in an app's code or something you can allow the app to install without placing a shortcut. I'm not sure if it works though since there were no replies after that...
Here is the line of code in the manifest file to remove:
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
Is this possible with downloaded apps? Seems illegal to tamper with other people's codes... Or is that just a solution for people who make their own apps... I am only familiar with Java so I don't know how to go about these code modifications in Android.
I'm sorry for the lengthy-looking post! I hope I can get some answers or suggestions soon enough.
Thank you all in advance!
SOLVED!!!
Nvm! Found an app for this!
The app is called "Smart Bar" the dev says it currently doesn't work well for Froyo but I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S running JPM ("official" froyo) right now and the hide app feature works just fine.
Best of all, it's completely free! It also has a ton of interesting/useful features. I have yet to play around with the other features so I can't confirm they all work in JPM.
At first I was afraid that the app would literally just "disable" but not delete the app via the renaming the apk method since when one clicks to hide an app it says "Disabling ____" ...so I thought oh great it hides the app icon and stops it from working too... But I tried it out with the Document Scanner Add-On and it still works fine from the main app.
Hope this information helps people out! Should be very useful for people who want to hide those add-ons and packs that for some reason have their own icons upon installing but just need the main app.
Nice

i also would like to know the answer to this, the method you have added is okay but unfortunately theres no solution to starting the process eg. i have added an option to open superSU, STK etc in settings, that option will not work with it hidden...

Pocket / Read it Later App is not longer available for the nook

Hey everybody,
i know there alot of nook users that use Read it Later (Now called "Pocket").
Since they changed to the new name it cant be installed on your nook from the android market.
i think they discontinued the android 2.1 support.
I have opened a ticket at their support system to get it back on the nook
If you want this too or just want to help me to get it back,
please leave a reply on the ticket
http://support.readitlaterlist.com/...android-21-for-older-devices-or-ebook-readers
Thank You!
Could you pull the necessary files from a Nook that has ReadItLater currently installed?
Failing that, I would email 'Pocket' support and ask for the application. You might get it. It was available publically only hours ago, how strict could they be?
i have thought about that too (add the files here) but i only have the pro version.
I dont think its allowed to publish the apk from a paid app ?! but i dont know, if iam wrong correct me
Yes it now requires 2.2.
Although it never worked properly on my nook anyway. Had some serious scrolling problems. When scrolling down by swiping the screen it would often move in the wrong direction. I had the same problem with the IHT app by the way.
Have a look at the Readability thread in this forum. Maybe that is for you. Its what I am doint at the moment.

Grr. Old app no longer syncs
Wasn't going to complain too much not to get the "pocket" rebrand since readitlater was still working fine... but now it isn't. Can't download any of my articles (though it can see they are there). They must have changed the system to no longer be compatible with the old version.
New ticket here (url broken to see if I'm allowed to post it, I'm a bit noob round here)

But I'm not hopeful anything will be done.
*sigh*
Okay, this "readability" thing then....
You can use Instapaper with Instafetch app. It has eink friendly UI and made especially for nook

Free registration at instapaper.com, free app. from google market "Read later for Instapaper" (author Capone) plus official bookmarklet from instapaper.com for browser which adds current page to the reading list. I almost happy with this solution.
Cons: no images, font is horrible and i see no way to change it, you need to refresh the list manually to download new articles, don't use full screen mode because it will hide options button at the top of your nook. Cheers

Capone's "Read Later for Instapaper" has been removed from the Google Play store. Presumably because it no longer syncs (the spinner spins, but makes no progress) and if you clear data and try to set it up again, the (correct) username and password aren't accepted. Presumably Instapaper have blocked it from logging into an account that doesn't have a $1/month subscription attached (the API is only open to third-party apps if the account does so). The official paid Instapaper app doesn't require the subscription, but requires Android 2.3.3.
Has anyone got a copy of an older version of the official Instapaper app that still runs on Android 2.1?
EDIT: I've found Laters which works on Android 2.1 on the Nook, so I think I'll switch back to Pocket.
I read today that Pocket is now available for the Kobo reader. May be is it possible to use the kobo version on our NST?

There is an option to increase or decrease the text size in the menu when reading Push Text Style on the menu. You can also choose Article view or full web page view in th options.
Readitlater seems to be the best option right now. It is possible to scroll with the nook buttons by enabling "Volume rocker scrolling" in the Readitlater settings. You have to go into Nook Touch Mod Manager and set your hardware buttons to Volume up and Volume down, but fortunately the keys still work fine in reader apps when set like this.
Newer version
This is the 1.3 version. I 've tested it, it works pretty good and has the "volume rocker" option too. Only minus is that if you map hardware keys to volume up and down, while they work well with read it later they don't work with stock reader
Also sometimes you swipe to scroll down but it scrolls up (weird bug..)

Uninstalling gmail and google calendar?

Anyone know if you can delete/uninstall the gmail and google calendar that gets installed on a rooted Nook wi NTGapps.
Just don't have any need to fit on my nook and would prefer not to have it in case my nook gets stolen or falls into the wrong hands.

Download the app root browser (easiest way is to use the play website and 'push' it to your device - hopefully you will have set up a sync with your account?) , if not, search for the app root browser, navigate to system/app/ x , x is gmail.apk or calendar.apk. Next part took me a while to figure out, click the button on the toolbar like thing which says 'multi select' then select/highlight the ones you want to delete, then just click delete, you will find they are no longer existing XD. Alternatively rename them or disable (im not quite sure how that works), but deleting them means they are gone for good, look into deleting a lot of other apks too, like phone and camera, they just dont need to exist.

Just a couple things from experience, if you delete a couple things you might not have wanted to (i sure did XD) , latinime.apk is the keyboard, so leave that alone. Library you can get rid of, i found a much better version of the library that some dude (cannot remember the thread) had made, if you want that i can upload it or just find the thread again.
I generally just googled some of the things i was unsure about removing, or just copied them over to somewhere else then deleted them to see if nothing broke XD.

it fits way more books on a screen, and you can also filter by name, last read, series, author etc,
this is the site http://www.temblast.com/android.htm , its library.apk, try it out, see what you think, what ive done is mapped the n button to open library, so i can easily switch to library from the relaunch/launcher.
full credit to renate nst who made this library app, its pretty good.
I use to remove system applications SystemApp Remover. He is able to delete, make backups and freeze the application.

Stock Email app auto advance after delete?

Hello everyone. Been awhile since I posted. After having the LG G4 for awhile I decided to get a Galaxy S6. Love it for the most part, except for one small thing. And that is that Samsung seems to have removed the simple option in the stock email app to choose where to go after deleting an email. You use to be able to choose between next email, or back to list. Well that option is completely gone. And I always have my phones set up to just go to the next email once I click delete.
My question is this. Is there anyway to get the stock email app to do this? Through root, or some other tweak or mod? I know I can just download a totally different email app, but before doing that I wanted to see if anyone found any other way to do this? Or has anyone even noticed this? Thanks
