I like to have USB Debug Mode enabled, but it has this annoying feature of making me disconnect both the internal and external storage separately. Without USB Debug Mode, it's very simple! See:

Is there any way to make this easier with debug mode enabled?

You can't just click on the icon on the task bar to enable and disable usb communication?

LOL.. or just use the phone's notification bar to have the phone un-mount the SD Cards rather then your computer?

But you're supposed to dismount it from the computer first... And yanking the cord without doing so will eventually lead to corruption, won't it?

Technically it can, but it is very unlikely. The reason it says that is so that some random idiot doesn't yank the cord during data transfer.

Wait till all the data transfer is complete. Prefer to wait for like 5-10 seconds atleast after the transfer dialog closes, and then u can simply turn off usb storage on phone, and yank it out.

This. Same with shutting down vs. holding the power button.

Thanks for the advice Guess I'll stop being a chump and yank it

My wife's phone wont boot and all that comes up is this screen. I've tried the 3 button combos to reach recovery or download. the phone wont load at all. Can someone please point me in the direction so I can remedy this?
Thank you

Try the various combinations of 3-button combos.
If that doesnt work, make a usb jig
just search for it on xda
OR
use youtube for a step by step approach.
The best way is to solder in the correct set of resistors (I think its ~ 300K ohms) onto a mirco usb male adapter and insert into the usb port on the captivate. The phone (provided the batttery is charged) should enter download mode.
Again instructions are everywhere, just look up 'usb jig'
I got mine into download mode by buying a 300K resistor and just bending the pins and placing tape between the ends .... easy fix but may take some time to get it right. THe idea is to press down on usb pins 4 and 5 in the phone which are the two right-most pins when facing the phone. I used this vid to unbrick mine:

Also, if youre not keen, have time and money on your hands, just search for it on ebay, theres plenty of ready made ones too.

Yesterday while I was surfing the web, didnt do anything abnormal, my HTC Vivid shut down. after trying to turn it on I was only able to get the screen on with nothing on it, after severel times i tried to pull the battery out I didn't achieve anything.
I tried to get into hboot without any success, I also tried doing it "blind" and tried to restore to defult setting.
After some reading I tought it might be a soft brick, I wasn't able to do anything thorugh adb, becuase it doesn't recognize my phone.
Any help please?
Is your battery not charging or not holding a charge?
sent from my HTC Vivid
Yeah, make sure the battery is actually still working first. Plug it in with a wall charger, pull the battery, put it back in, and if you don't get the Orange light, you might have bigger problems (perm-brick, busted USB port, etc).
Battery works fine
Hi guys thank you for the responses.
The battery works great, as usual.
BTW, I forgot to mention that the device was unrooted and with stock tomorrow.
Nothing I think could cause a perm -brick.
Any suggestions?

When did you un root it?
Root
I meant that it was never rooted.
Sorry, my mistake..
What happens when you take the battery out, then put it back in and press the volume down button and power button at the same time?

My D4 bit the dust tonight after having it for a year and a half. I think moisture from leaving it in the bathroom during my showers killed it. The phone gets power, but when I turn it on I get white/black static. It won't even show the Motorola boot animation. I am wondering if there is a way to get my pictures off the internal memory card? When I plug my phone up to the computer I get the little sound that my phone is connected, but it doesn't show up. I have tried a reset and booting into safe mode, but the screen just shows black/white static.

Hi, it sounds like you got the same problem as described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552978
I wonder if more people will pop up having this problem suddenly. Can you check if you can connect to your Phone through adb when on the static screen? That still seems to work here.
It might make sense to move this discussion to that other thread to have one location for the people having the same problem.

Hello, I have just got my replacement phone from Verizon's insurance company. so i been holding off a couple of days to retrieve my lost photos since my screen in severely damaged. If i try connecting it to my pc it doesnt show any files, yet the new phone does since im able to enable the MTP connection. I tried using a keyboard plugged in via the OTG Adapter, granted it works but the screen wont turn on, only when the phone turns on I can see the top half of the screen; then a few seconds will go by and its black. Doing anything will keep it locked even if i try typing it anyway. Please help me figure a way out to get my photos back so i can send the claimed Note 9 in the mail this evening. Thanks!

Do you have a USB-C - HDMI Cable or Adapter ?? That's the only way i can think of you getting access to your Note 9!

this is a great idea. Get access to the phones GUI, offload the pics to google drive or whatever else you have access to, profit. cant forget to profit...
Hi, I've been using my Mi 9 for almost 3 years with no issues but since 2 weeks phone started to behave strange. Phone had no contact with water, didn't fall to get damage, had no chance to overheat recently.
When you lock the screen you couldn't unlock it, no reaction on power button click or tap on finger print, the only way was to hold down power button and reset the phone. The issue become more frequent so I thought this is becouse almost all the memory used but I free up 10GB and nothing changed. I told myself I need to do new backup of the phone and a hard reset but before I completed that, my Xiaomi got bricked.
The screen is black and does not show anything.
I managed to run recovery mode once but option to reboot the phone didn't help, and since that time I can't get to recovery mode either.
I thought that maybe I'll use Clonezilla to clone entire device memory do external SSD but it's not recognized as storage device.
When I plug it with USB-C cable to Windows 10 it actually shows up as Mi 9 T Pro:

}
I thought that I'll maybe I'll use: adb pull /sdcard/ but I get error: 5e08c65f unauthorized
I've backup from Dec 2021 and I managed to copy 90% of Camera folder before phone got bricked but still missing recent videos which are important to me (mostly videos of my 2-years old son).
The most important question here: Is there any other way to copy data from the device since looks like Windows computer can see it still when connected with USB?
What's the possible issue of the phone, and how can I fix that? If it's not possible to fix it at home, is it possible for Xiaomi Autorized service to repair the phone without erasing my data?
Please help! I'm in desperation, I love that device, it's design and features, I thought I'll be using it for at least 3 more years or possibly as long as it will live as I can't see any other devices that have: Popup camera, mini jack and USB-C.
