jf6 is stock. You should be fine. If you want you should be able to use kies mini to update to jh7.

Updating through Kies is a piece of cake if there is an update available. I don't know what the stock ROM was in UK but I guess early phones shipped with XXJF3. For everything else, read the FAQ!
Hi, xxjf3 was the veraion i had, is therw anywhere i can download from as foe kies the reason i updated manually using odin was thwre was an update through kies but it would not allow me to update, if someonw could provide a guide to rom update alk the differwnt ways would help.

I see you can't see my signature when using your phone...
Check the FAQ sticky when you get to a PC. You can't do it on the go anyways:

There's a thread in the general section regarding resetting your battery stats. Try that one first.

The only official tool for updating is Kies. However if you want to load arbitrary firmware you can use Odin (which is a leaked Samsung tool) or Heimdall (a custom flashing tool developed by myself) once it's been tested that is, it's in a public alpha at the moment.
XD

ODIN question

I have been flashing ROM's for months but it has been forever since i used ODIN to go back to stock. I am wanting to try Cyanogenmod 7 but I want to work out how to go back. I have ODIN3 V1.0 and I know I am to choose repartition option. Since I havent done this in forever, I am not sure what to choose for PDA, Phone, CSC, PIT. Maybe I am using the wrong version. I am assuming I cant use the Odin one click downloader to go back to stock.
I knew all this at one point but it has literally been 4-5 months since I did it so if someone would clarify these points it would help. I REALLY hate to post this question but I simply do not remember.
Thanks.
Odin one click to stock should work if you are build 1009 and lower.
Only if you are trying to get rid of cm7

I am build 1007. I have looked into this more and it states that I need to check repartition and you cant do that through the ODIN one click downloader that I can find.
I doubt I would got back to other ROM's but I want to have the option and frankly I should know how to do this anyway. Must be getting old or something, they say the memory is the first thing to go....or something like that....cant remember.

Just for the record, Build 1008, at least in my case, took being one-clicked very poorly. I've used v3 ever since and had no trouble... at least with flashing back to stock. I do use the 1-click to master-clear, however.

Gingerbread -> Froyo

How so u flash back to 2.2 from 2.3
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
The easiest way is to use Odin One Click to flash back to 2.1 then use Kies mini to update to 2.2
Use TiBu to back up files 1st.

You might want to read this.
That is the definitive guide to bricking. You will probably find all the answers you need to get yourself out of that soft brick and to get back to a place where you can get to 2.2.
In theory, according to the guide, as long as you still have the 2.3 bootloaders in place, you should be able to flash a 2.2 rom

Can someone verify this? I'm possibly thinking of flashing back to FF, and if I don't have to revert to the Froyo bootloaders it'll make my decision easier.

Yes, GB bootloaders work just fine on Froyo based rom. Just make sure you flash a froyo kernel first, get in recovery (don't boot the phone normally) and flash the 2.2 based rom you want (beside cognition as it flashes the sbl.bin)
Sent from my Mosaic powered I896 using Tapatalk
so if i Flash Serendipity will it still work after because i hard bricked my phone flashing GB -> Froyo roms and i ended up having to get an Rma phone
As long as the froyo rom does not flash a secondary boot loader, you should be fine.

Correct ... To check the rom for a secondary bootloader, open up the zip look in the updates folder if you see "sbl.bin" that would be the secondary bootloader. Don't flash that rom.
Well since infant use .bin files can I just delete that file form the Rom? Or will it get corrupted

Yes ... You might also have to go into the script "Meta-inf" and delete the lines about sbl.bin, not sure if it is in the script to flash it individually or just the update folder...but the only rom I know has it is cognition. But I'd still check every rom I was going to flash, better safe than sorry.
Sounds Like a lot of work but ill try

If it's there it'll be in the updates folder. There should only be 3 things in that folder: modem.bin redbend_ua and zImage. If that's all you see you're golden.

If you don't see it then it probably isn't there, I think only cognition has it, and dg(the dev of cog) might have taken it out because alot of people bricked because of it.

[Q] Can't unroot Galaxy S

I roooted my galaxy s some months ago to apply the one click lag fix (Super One Click, v1.6 i think, tho not sure about the version number).
I have since removed the lag-fix and unrooted. The whole process completed without any problems. However, when i tried to update to Gingerbread, it tells me my software version cannot be updated.
When i checked the software details on the phone it has the Kernal as 2.6.32.9 [email protected]8#1
Im pretty sure this still identifies the phone as being rooted.
I tried rooting and unrooting again (this time using v1.9), as before the whole process completed as it should, but nothing has changed on the phone.
I understand that if I flashed the firmware, it would remove the rooting, but would prefer to avoid this route if possible.
The phone is running stock froyo - PDA:JP7 / PHONE: JP3 / CSC: JP5 (TMU)
Any advice on this would be appreciated

Can anyone help me find a stock kernal to download, as I have had no joy myself.

Actually the bolded line doesn't indicate whether you're rooted or not. Once you have flash a stock rom via Odin, you're good to go without any root access.
Sorry if I'm being a bit dim... but what holder line?
I'm pretty certain the phone is no longer rooted, but as long as it still has this root kernel on it Kies won't allow it to update.

[Q]Phone Updating

sorry and i know that there are many topic related about this but im just a noob on android flashing.
my phone is:
Samsung Galaxy S [I think its international]
No update through WIFI
GT-I9000
Eclair 2.1
Baseband:I9000XXJM1
KERNEL:2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build:ECLAIR.XFJM1
NOT ROOTED
is it possible to flash by phone recovery mode with the firmware/data in the SD card?
if not are there other ways to flash by phone and not by ODIN or KIES
KIES = my phone does not show up in kies (endless connecting status) when i try to connect it via kies.but its ok on the other settings.
please direct me to possible update ways and instruction or files that i need..
i prefer the stock version than moded ones..
thank you.
