You are the one who is interested in this. Make a Backup, install your theme, if it works great, if not, just restore to your back-up. There is no fear of bricking your device. Dont be expecting people to just install things to see if they work for you. This is a community everyone should contribute!
Thats awsome logic, however i have no knowledge of how to even make a backup, much less get a successful one. Ill be the first to admit, too, that im not very android savvy yet when it comes to the mod scene, and if something messes up, the forums would explode with me asking questions on how to fix my phone. Im also not going to loose my job because I have to explain to my boss that I bricked my phone because I wanted to make it look different. Im not a developer, im a user, and i cant afford to blindly walk in to something without knowing side effects.

You dont need to be a developer to do this. I recommend you check out the PMC (Pimp My Captivate) guide posted in the general sections for the captivate. Also, if your new to the mod world and xda in general, I will be the first to say welcome. We have a great community of moders, users, and developers here who are extremely helpful. Most questions probably have been asked, and answered already. Use the Forums search feature to see if it has been, or if you want to learn how to do something search it, there are a TON of guides on the forums about moding and developing!
For making a backup you can do this, by going to the Android Development Section, and Reading the ClockworkMod Custom Recovery
its simple and easy for making sure you never brick your phone!
got me curios ill do it. reply when i get home.....
ok it installs fine over TwLauncher but not launcherPro. now you just have to find some themes that are made for 2.1 eclair rom. most of what i found was for CyanogenMod. don't know anything about this mod but i hope this helps some one. i now think this is of intrust to me too. so if we could get a captivate tut for this thing (past instillation) like actual installing of themes that would be great thanks.
Yea metamorph works fine some times it bugged out with ADW when I first start up the phone but other than that metamorph works great. I'm using the evo blackbar mod.

I second that. I installed it over Touchwiz and LauncerPro and I didn't see one change that it made. The only metamorph change that has actually ever worked for me is the Evo black bar mod.
This just appeared on the Team Black Hat app. I'll post a change log when one appears. In the mean time, has anyone give this new build a run? Please post impressions.
Waiting to see if it's alright to use over top of 2.2 OTA....
what is this?
If I had to guess.. I'd say that P3Droid got his hands on the software going out for the R2D2 edition Droid 2.

Is the Droid 2 using the same kernel as the X?
Oh yea I see this in the TBH app now. Wonder what it will bring. Any idea how big the file is? I have no wifi so I'll have to wait.
just flashed it over the leak froyo no wipe, new boot animation so far
and live wallpapers that work flawlessly, quadrant bench mark still around 1490 as what i was getting with the leak froyo.
I'd like to know if it's simply a theme or if it's an entire ROM. If so, I'd like to know if it includes an updated Kernal over the 2.3.15 leak.

exactly. In response to a previous post, I can "guess" too. But I'd much rather have information posted since this is sort of like a "newslike" thread.
There's no point reposting something from one forum into another if you're not going to have at LEAST as much information as your source, or links.
there are reports of Swype not working in this build.

It's just messing with the /system folder... no new kernels or anything. Always consult MDW if you need info on P3Droid / TBG releases:

Thank you very much. Very helpful info. All info on any build should be in the TBH app. I shouldn't have to track down a forum to see what I'm getting into. All TBH says is "some items may work, hehe" Not very informative.

Agreed.
Just flashed it and no real changes.
Only thing changed is:
R2D2 boot animation.
4 Star Wars live wallpapers.
Star wars clock.
And some mild themeing, such as default contact icon is Cee3po...or however u spell that.
Star Wars Binoculars app...kinda a game I guess....although pointless...
And that's it....everything else is the exact same as 23.13 and 23.15...
No incentive there, unless ur a fanboy.

Getting really excited about our future.
EDIT: I apologize...I read system dump, and misspoke when typing. Still, I am hoping that this may be step in the right direction in furthering the Android platform for Vibrant. Hopefully the mods can rename the post to "Honeycomb system dump...?"

That's not the source code. That is a system dump. As far as i know the source is still unavailable. Hopefully soon it will be, but some devs are working on getting these system dumps/sdks to run on our devices.

It also seems to be more aimed at tablets, so gingerbread might be a better target for our devs time. Of course that's up to them on how they want to spend it.
Are you refering to the update on our sdk?

Hopefully this will lead to more of the honey..............comb

Just saw an article that there may be some smartphone compatability, but not much. I wouldn't be surprised if its just code left from the 2.0 line. I'm betting they'll end up remerging hte lines at some point.

Totally content here to just keep checking back and seeing what you Mad Scientists have cooked up for our phones. I am technical, but cannot program/develop to save my life, I went into the support end of the IT field.
Heck, I can program, its what I do for a living, but I don't have the background in this stuff, or unfortunately the time to learn it. I'd REALLY love to learn..
This is stock UVKB5 2.2.1 ported from Vibrant 4G.
- Deodexed and Zipalign
- TouchWiz with no bloat
- Rooted
- Modded framework with SD fix
- Init.d optimization
- EDT GPS Fix
- KB1 Modem
- Stock Kernel based on KA6 source with Voodoo lagfix, sound v7, and BLN (No OC and No UV)
- WiFi Calling
- HAC mode (Hearing Aid Compatibility)
Update:
- DriveSmart is now working
NOTE: Just like any other ROM, flash it using CWM. This ROM also support any Voodoo enabled kernel. Also remember, this ROM will still show 4G connection even though as you should know, your vibrant phone doesn't support 4G. I'll fix that later on.
Other that those listed above, this ROM is pretty much stock. Perfect starting point for devs and themers.

Got it. Any significant changes? Would think not if we aren't using the modem or kernel. Just wondering before I flash it.
How is it running so far? Pretty good? Will check this out in a little bit.
What have you done to services.jar? Is android-policy untouched? Settings.apk? Would you say the recompiling went perfect so the framework shouldn't throw any errors when decompiled/recompiled? Will UOT accept the framework as is? Did you include the new pink boot animation? <- Just curious on these.
Also, did you leave drivesmart in when you removed the bloat?
EDIT - Dang, I HATE people to post 900 questions in my thread that could be answered by downloading the rom - sorry!
My observations:
1. I like it but when we posted this in the past, people complained about the auto sync - MobileBackup-3.0.19.04-signed-aligned.apk - they didn't want it in there and there is no way to turn it off once the rom is flashed.
2. People are going to complain about the decade long media scanning that has been common with the V4G releases - this can be easily fixed though.
3. A request - Can you please post the drivesmart apps? It is still in settings but causes a force close because the app isn't there.
4. You might get with krylon one more time - it looks like the menu button may still be making a call to the launcher, causing menu lag - I thought he found a fix for this but I don't know for sure.
5. This does not appear to be using whitehawkx's sdcard fix - you might want to contact him.
6. People ARE going to LIKE the non-blurry mms! But there is a weird bug where you can not attach a photo straight from mms if you try to take the picture from mms. You can take the picture from the camera app and then use share though.
Finally - Great Job. I know this post looks like nothing but negative critiques but I assure you your contribution is appreciated!

lol too funny. all good questions none the less. about to start decompiling and digging around myself.
If you don't mind, I'm going to rip this apart and make the changes that I think it needs because this contains 1 very important and highly requested feature that the I9000 roms lack.
Do you have a link to un-modded kb5 so I can pull the drivesmart and bloat out of it?

And thanks again - This is your rom and will stay that way, I want to rip it apart for the hac mode - something you should advertise in your title since it is a highly requested item, along with wifi-calling on a 2.2.1 rom.
I don't think this question has been asked, so I'll ask it.
I have a Captivate that I dearly love, but has been replaced by my Infuse 4G. I have a young son who loves it as well, but I don't have a SIM card in the phone and I certainly don't want him making emergency calls by accident. He does like to play games and stuff like that on the phone, however.
I realize that I won't be able to use a normal data connection, but since it's on WiFi and never leaves the house anyway, that's irrelevant to me. My question is this -- is there anyway to not only disable, but remove completely the phone features on the Captivate, basically turning it into an Android-version iPod?
Thanks to anyone who knows (or will answer).
