Power control widget allows you to control brightness but there is a bottom limit, screen filter adds a shade of gray to the entire screen making it dimmer than the lowest brightness setting.
I'm late but you're welcome, Screen filter takes the brightness down to the lowest setting, which is below stock. The default is 8, and you can take it below that with that app

Does anyone else notice that even on the lowest setting the screen is still really bright? Does a program exist or can someone program one to dim the screen further for use in the dark? Thanks

There are a number of programs in the market that will allow fine tuning. Power Manager, Toggle Switch, etc.

Your answer was even less relevant than mine and I thought I was going on a tangent. At least my idea would in theory work.
Power Mgr won't make it any less bright than the phone currently allows and how would toggle switches do anything for the brightness? lol

Well... Toggle Settings (sorry I called it switch before...) shows %'s, and allows you to set it the brightness from the app. it doesn't let you set it below 0% though (might be a nice feature...)
Power Manager allows you to set the brightness and to save 'profiles' eg. "night time' with the settings you want.
At least my answer had two apps that allow you to change the display brightness... goof

I found a program called aSettings that will allow you to set maybe 5% lower than the stock Settings program. However, this screen is still way too bright when using in the dark.

I set the aSettings to "0" and checked in Toggle Settings (for reference). TS reports display brightness at -4%. Seems there may be hope if we get one of the programmers to tweak things a little more.

I had seen a friends Samsung Vibrant and he showed me how you can actually raise and lower the brightness settings of the phone by holding your finger on the status bar for a second and then swiping either left or right on it to adjust the brightness levels.
Just a cool feature if anybody is interested in investigating it.
Thanks,

I've seen this in action and it's pretty cool. Wonder if it's hiding in an .apk somewhere....
As far as I know, its in the framework Part and @kmobs tried it but needs help with the linear layout ...
Any application?
Is there any application with this feature? To change screen brightness INTO the status bar.
Any one can create such application?

You could
There are ROMs with brightness controls in the notifications.. Open Notification bar, tap the icon.. Has various options from Auto/30/100 all the way up to like 5 or so options. I tend to leave mine on Auto except when I'm using the phone as a car GPS in which case I need it brighter, and I let Tasker do that for me.
My eBook screen is too dull even with my "settings" for screen brightness set to max.
How can I make my eBook screen bighter please?
Thanks in advance.
Try disabling power saving option in display settings. Menu settings display and disable power saving.

aibo - you are a genius - that has worked perfectly and i am now "a happy man" thank you.
when i updates CM9 4.0.4 BCM for my Nexus One, the capacitive buttons (as back, menu, home, search) not light up when I am in a dim room. I can force them on my covering the brightness sensor. My Inspire would light up whenever I hit a button. Is there maybe a setting I am missing to turn the feature on?
Do you help me?!
Thanks.
You can tweak brightness levels on CM9. This includes the button lights being on /off - value of 255=on, any other value = off.
Think it's Display >. Automatic back light > Use custom > Edit other levels.
You will then see a table of values with a Button column on the right hand side. Set this to 255 or 0 as needed.
Of course you need to have Automatic Brightness switched on in the first instance for this to work.

i work it with your guide. but it not ligh.
Do you give me specific instructions?
i'm ok!
thank you very much!
No problem.
You can also use the app Screen Filter. With this app you can dim your screen to different levels. However it also has an option to set the button lights on/off, so you could also use that without requiring Automatic Brightness.
So you could create a Screen Filter Widget at say 96% brightness and button light on, and another similar one with button light off. Try it out anyhow.
Hope that makes sense, and good luck

I know switchpro widget that goes in the notification drawer eventually but it lacks the luminosity slider.

Thanks a lot. This app is nice.
But is there any app that only remains in the notification drawer with a slider ?
I'm sorry I cant find much, but this seems OK, but no slider

Thank you for your help, I've searched a lot too and can't find any notification embed slider
I found the widget app called : https://play.google.com/store/apps/...medium=appbrain_web&utm_campaign=appbrain_web
Which does have sliders for luminosity and volume but I can't find one single app that replicated the samsung slider with both automatic luminosity offset and absolute luminosity % slider !
If one dev manages to code this I bet he can start selling it at least 5 dollars ahah.
This one is NOT BAD AT ALL too because you can add APPS and other options like flashlight into the bar, I think I'm going to use that one for now : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&feature=search_result
