EDIT: Official version on the market has been updated to support tablets.
I modified the official XBMC remote app so it scales properly on the Gtab. You now get a huge ass 10" remote control
beta 1.1:
- Fixed force close when Official XBMC Remote app not installed. You need to uninstall the old version sorry.
beta 1:
- Remote control scales to full screen in portait and landscape.
- Status bar displayed when using remote control (so you can use soft back, menu, home buttons).
- Playback controls on "Now Playing" view scales to screen width.
Todo:
- Gesture remote full screen
- Layout fixes for Library view
- Landscape view for library, now playing, etc
Credits to Team XBMC for the original app.
Disclaimer: This app will probably cause your device to explode so don't use it.
I installed this but when I try running the app I get a forced close.
I installed it, replacing the official xbmc App. It fired up and connected to our xbmc hosts. Wife walked by, saw the scaled out remote control buttons and laughed.
Cool beans and thanks.
Follow up:
I started with a clean VEGAn ROM.
Installed your XBMC remote and was getting the forced close after trying to run the app. I then installed the official app from the market and the forced close for your app went away. I then uninstalled the official app and the forced close for your app returned.
shredness: Do you have both apps installed (official plus this one)?
Yes, I installed this over the official.
I did change the app at the last minute so it wouldn't replace the official app. Must have missed something. I'll fix when I get a chance.
EDIT:
This is fixed. You need to uninstall the old version of my app first sorry.

You can use the physical volume up/down buttons to change XBMC's volume but I'll add on screen buttons when I'm back home after Christmas. I'm thinking about adding a gmote style touchpad since there's so much space to work with.
Used Your mod on Dell Streak
Happened to be playing around with the official XBMC Remote app and it worked, except it wasn't scaling properly. I came across your mod decided to give a go and it works at least as well as the official app. Everything is scaled a lot better. About the only issues I observed on the Streak is the movie posters does not fix that very large dvd frame and the slider to filter movies...actors...files...whatever, looks a little cramped.
Thanks guys...will be following this closely.

Looks good!
Any way you could share the code so I can make it go upstream? A diff would be most appreciated. And BTW at forum.xbmc.org there is a board for the remote, so you'll probably reach more people looking for issues concerning the remote there.
Cheers,

Once I hit the remote screen it just closes out completely.
I still can't post any links because of the superb spam filter in here.
However once I can I'll post the link to a build. Would be great if you guys could test it and if it crashes, post a log.
Cheers!

Awesome thanks!
Will check this out.

NICE! Thank you much.
It'd be nice if it had an actual name and icon.

A name and icon are in the works. Give it some time.
The app worked great...just looking forward to it's further development.

Here's the file I downloaded after following all the links. I guess its ok to post it.
If you're on Twitter, it's probably worth following the guy for updates. I did.
Same here, following dev on twitter.
As indicated above next alpha should include an icon.
probably not the right place, but I'll post my short blurb anyway.
like:
- clean uncluttered, only necessary information and buttons.
- fast, flipping between pages are nice.
- the typography
- how artist, album, etc is organized using alphabetical/large font is refreshing.
dislike (mostly related to smartphone to tablet screen scaling)
- I know this is for smartphone player, but when in "play mode" screen, the progress bar is only the size of small album cover. It's too small for practical use. Everything clumped together at bottom screen leaving huge empty space up top. (looks like something is wrong when there is no background image.) Maybe load a "default blank" image when there is no album image?
- bigger play/pause/next screen buttons? button size is too small for comfortable clicking for tablet. I think it's also mis-aligned. or at least the placement of buttons is spread out of context, not below the album cover in tablet screen. (maybe slice the screen into 4 quadrants, and fit all album/players controllers on bottom left corners)
- (setting is still blank. yeah I know work in progress)
- when inside "play screen", once getting out to browsing screen while playing, it's not possible to quickly get back to play screen without retracing path from song title. Also How about if I double/triple tap on the big image in play screen, It will bring me back to main browsing screen. How about scroll side to side? (play screen -- side swipe - browsing screen.)
- back button only bring me to previous screen. (so if I jump out of player, and back into play screen, if I hit back button, it will throw me out to external screen. and I have no way to get back to main browsing screen without relaunching the player.)
wish list ( I post one anyway.):
- button and font color option?
- in tablet, the super low rest/huge background image looks really blotchy for a lot of images. (for human face, it looks like somebody has bad skin disease or something. just ugly.) Can we have option, not downloading external images? force use internal default images.
- less aggressive use of wireless.
- equalizer
- widget
- playlist creation (I think it's still being build)
- a way to alter mp3 file label. (hey, not my music comes from stores. and a lot of my record label promo material has wrong labels. )
- I really liking this as a universal media file manager. How about video, ebook, "social" (as in libre.fm, last.fm, or whatever other social music), simple mp3 blog RSS.
Agreed with you bigbird.
Functionally my biggest issue is going back, especially when you are on a playlist you have to exit to get back.
An on screen back button + a way to get back to main screen quickly I think would be best.
Playlist creator
Scaling stuff could take longer to materialize but yes:
+ Bigger progress bar for Jumping/skipping song on + Bigger buttons
Why don't you send your recommendation to the developer via twitter?
I wish it did what Doubletwist does. If it's at the lockscreen, it shows the primary buttons and makes it click to unlock.
Alpha 3 just out and some of the issues above have already been dealt with. Back button from now playing screen, icon for the app, etc.

I could be wrong but:
1. On the software side audio quality would depend primarily on the encoding quality, i.e. compression type, bps or lossless.
2. Then it would depend on your hardware, mainly the DAC chip inside your device.
3. Your earphones
I would guess on hardware (2) that the Zune since it's a dedicated MP would have a better DAC and audio line path. On the other two it should be the same.
Is anyone else getting audio dropouts on CM7 (beta nightly)
Love everything about this app, but seem to have some audio dropouts and pauses during playback.. Using the beta CM7 build with Dalingrinators OC.
PS. im using DSP to boost volume via eq settings.

I've noticed a couple of tiny pauses at the start of tracks but nothing too distracting. I'm loving the app though (the Zune interface is simply one of the best I've come across) and it complements Launcher 7 perfectly.

I know many of you out there have been waiting for a widget for this, myself included.
The developer has just posted this as a preview for the upcoming next release.
Refer to this : http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/20/windows-phone-7-style-music-player-for-android-arrives-from-the/
I take no credit for this. But it works awesome on my O2X.
Disclaimer : I take no responsibility if this makes your device bricked, inoperable, lazy, or if it ****s bricks.
It also automatically downloads album art as seen on the screenshot
Don't forget to hit the thanks button!
Alpha 3 up!
http://launcherpro.com/music/
Fixed some out-of-memory FCs related to album artwork and artist backgrounds.
Fixed a FC when "shuffle all" was pressed before having played any songs.
Fixed the previous song's album art showing in Now Playing when no artwork is found for the current song.
Fixed a visual glitch for album art in the Now Playing screen on Honeycomb.
Enabled vertical scrolling in Now Playing (portrait mode) for low resolution devices devices like HTC Wildfire.

You can now long-press any song/artist/album/playlist/genre to add it to the current play queue.
Added compatibility for scrobbling with the Last.fm app
Added a Settings screen (in the main "Music" screen press Menu > Settings)
Added support for controlling playback with your headset. You can disable this in the settings.
Added option to download artist backgrounds only when connected to Wi-Fi to avoid data charges.
Added option to change the UI accents color (default is blue).
Added a provisional icon to the app.

Nope. Not available in the market yet. It's in alpha. But still very usable I'd say. Take note this alpha expires in about a month by which time the final version should be out in the Market which mostly likely be a paid app.
Paid?
Damn...i really like the minimalistic-style of this player but i cant agree for a paid only version.....
There are a lot of very good musicplayer ....and most of all they are free....
i can understand the developer reason.....but i cant agree with him......
(note: i yet donate for launcher pro......because Fede is a very great developer....)

Hey Fede, ya, I'm also opposed to paying for it. Why don't you make a donate version and like ask on first use on the free version that if you like it to get the donate version(lol, only first run ever plz )? Also, you could remove the internet downloading of the artist picture in the free version or something...
I am having a real pain attempting to setup touch profiles for sixaxis on the Note.. I can't.
The basic procedure starts with importing a screen capture as background, and it as at this point that it fails... No matter in what orientation or how i try, the screen capture ALWAYS shows portrait mode... so it is not possible to hold the Note in landscape and create a landscape touch profile.. in line with how the game will be played..
any advice?
Note (non-Samsung type note):: I am rooted, have the PS3DS3 paired and working fine on a N64oid map created by others.. simply unable to correctly follow steps on the Note to create new profiles
I had that problem on my Atrix. What I wound up doing was rotating and resizing the image on my PC to compensate for the app forcing everything into Portrait view.
Thanks for this tip.. it certainly worked.
[EDIT 7th April]
Thanks to Scottmog in another thread, a cleaner solution is as follows.. goto settings>edit background>tap middle of screen.. it is a rotation button...

Is there a way to force a certain aspect ratio or resolution for an app? I've noticed with some apps that I get cropping which causes some games to be unplayable, some just annoying. Currently, I'm having issues with Plants vs. Zombie (from the Humble Mobile Bundle). The sides are cut off and some of the images/controls on top overlap.
I'm running Fat'n Creamy 2/28 release.
Try Ultimate Rotation Control https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate. It allows settings for individual apps.

Thanks for that app, actually. I hate having the screen locked in the "upright" position when I have it plugged in. I like to have it flipped with the USB port on top to reduce stress.
With such a huge screen, why didn't Google allow the home screen to display in landscape orientation? While I have never wanted this functionality before, it seems like it would be great here. I'm assuming there's no way to do this without root?
You can... download a third-party launcher such as Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher. You can find them on the play store and then make the launcher to be landscape mode or portrait based on the orientation of the phone.
If you want this feature with google now launcher then there is no way to achieve this, not until Xposed is made to work using ART
They had to follow Apple this time. The iPhone 6 plus has this feature due to larger screen.

yep huge annoyance, especially since 1) iphone (!!!) now allows this and 2) google themselves allow it on android tablets
The launchers rotate, but the navigation and notification bars don't. Or at lease I have not been able to figure out how to make them do so. I know a custom ROM will fix this at some point, but part of the reason I bought this phone was to use as a micro tablet.
