I have been maintaining the framework for VEGAn-TAB and wanted to develop some optional framework files. If some of these changes are popular, then they could creep into the main build.
I plan on working on some different color schemes. I'll also consider any requests.

I applied the change, but don't see any difference. What was supposed to change here?
BTW, would love color variation for the status bar across the top. The green is my least favorite thing about mod. Maybe a nice blue would look good.

Status bar height is a bit smaller, I'm playing with how thick it should be. I'm going to probably throw up some more versions tomorrow or late tonight.
I just threw that up real quick because I had quite a few people request it.

I'm not sure yet, since when you theme an app you ruin the ability for it to stay up to date. It is possible.
The first big change will probably be a blue or cyan(tron) colored version.
I like the slimmer status bar. The original always felt a little too big. Nice mod!
Bump for Tron Cyan theme, thinking about coloring more icons for the theme, but all the main ones are done.

how do you install the tron theme? its an apk file.
Wow, this is nice. I think I like the blue theme better than the green one!!!
I followed the directions but no blue color or Tron theme.... is there something to turn on after reboot, or should it just appear?

Try redownloading it. I fixed it as an update.zip.
Worked perfectly... thanks!!!!!!
I like the Tron theme too.
The slim notification bar is a great mod. Great work.
weird things are happening after applying the tron mod.
after installing and booting up, i noticed everything was a little sluggish. more sluggish than normal. i cleared cache after installing and booted up btw, but noticed scrolling around was a little slower, app drawer tray scrolled slower as well (i dunno, call it ocd). so i did a quadrant test and all the tests were consistently lower by 200 points. luckily i restored a backup before updating and now my quadrant scores are back to normal. not sure if this is just me or what.
weirder thing is that when i booted into clockwork mod to try and restore, it said it couldn't find the directory, it did not exist. thought this was weird, so i went to the mounts and storage menu and saw that /sdcard was mounted (not sure if its supposed to be) so i unmounted it and then it worked.

yea i'm pretty sure the clockwork thing is my error. but the slower scores i don't really know. i will do some more experimenting.
Hello all... big fan of the VEGAn ROm on my G Tab. I am a designer by trade but do not have the abilty tear apart the framework to reskin the ROM. Is there anyway for someone to send me just the graphic files, let me skin it then send it back to rebuild the framework?
I hope this isn't asking too much? Then I can build a few themes for our G Tab.
Thanks for all the deves hard work... just hoping to help give back for all your great work. You can shoot me a PM too.

You can download the first link (not the cyan one). Then open the zip and find the file called framework-res.apk. That file is an archive, that you can open like any zip file. Inside of the framework file, go to /res/drawable-mdpi. That is where you will find the files that need to be modded.
However the files with .9.png will not be simple edits like the regular .png files. There are guides on how to do the 9 ones.

Nice job on the theme man. I've been using the Smorg theme for awhile, and now SmorgWhite. I like what you've done with this. Really like the icons also. I'll try to flash this right now and see how I like it. I'll give you some feedback when I'm done.
Alright I downloaded the .zip file for the theme. When I went to flash it for whatever reason it wouldnt' let me. kept giving me a failure notice. I'm not sure why it did that. Deleted the file and tried to download it again. STILL not able to finish the entire flash. HELP!!!

Yeah, I tried to flash this too. I don't think you signed it correctly. During the flash, it aborts saying something about IM apk failure.
Nice looking theme though. I love the icons. Hope you can fix the issue bro
this is my favorite looking theme but i'm getting an error when i try to flash
Verifying update package...

love the fact that it's very B/W and the new icons are hot. would like to have voice search still but i can deal without it.
would be cool to keep the status bar icons from smorg 1.8 to keep the true B/W feel going.
beautiful theme, thanks for the contribution, hope i can get it on my G1 soon.
Darn! Worked on my phone. I'll check out what's wrong.
Edit: Resigned, and test installed on my own phone. Worked. Please report if it still doesn't work on your device. (Replaced original browser with new browser while I was at it)
/Mats
thanks alot bro. i'm gonna test it now
lol, sorry bro. you fiddle with one thing, seems something else doesn't want to work. and i think your phone runs fine with it because whatever is missing in the update is already on your phone so it doesn't ve any issues. maybe if u do a clean wipe or ext3 wipe and then flash your theme you'll see the error which is:
E: Wrong digest:
system/app/Browser.apk
E: Verification failed
Installation aborted.
I assume it's issues with the icons after you changed them or something because the last issue was IMprovider.apk and now it's Browser.apk
Thanks for the heads up. I'll give it another go.
/Mats
New version up.
This time, I wiped, flashed CyanogenMod 4.0.2, Flashed Melange 0.9.2, pulled out SD card and rebooted. Worked. Keeping my fingers crossed it'll work on Your phone too.
/Mats
hey bro thanks alot for working on this. it works! ...keep up the good work- just a suggestion if you'll take it--- the theme could use a few touch ups where the icons are in the notification bar (they seem to be surrounded a little bit by rough black edges from what i am seeing. thanks.
No need to thank me - I should thank you for volunteering as guinea pig.
If I'm to publish this, (besides just using it on my own phone) I'd better make sure it's at least possible to make it run on someone elses phone
Yeah, I know about those status bar icons.
When I started off with this, I had the intention of making them with a slight bevel around. Didn't turn out all that well, so some are beveled (or surrounded a little bit by rough black edges as you so eloquently put it! ), and some are just with transparent backgrounds. Now that I made app icons, I think I'll try to get the status bar icons to match too.
/Mats
sounds awesome. keep up the great work. you're one of the few guys who bothered to skin the icons and to me that makes a huge difference on how great the g1 can look. i wasn't feeling the smorg icons but i loved the smorg theme, so i tried using the bettercut method but that took forever to appoint random icons, and it also slowed my phone down. you've pretty much done what i wanted for my phone, so thanks bro. i'll be looking forward to your updates if you keep it up.
now it's time for me to sleeeeeeep
yay it works
i feel the same way as opasha. i like the smorg theme but wasn't a fan of the icons and when i tried to change them with better cut but my phone started to get choppy, the icons you created are beautiful.
i did manage to keep voice search/dialer. not sure how exactly, i flashed over smorg without flashing back to the unskinned CM 4.0.2, maybe that had something to do with it. keep up the good work and truly a wonderful theme, thanks for sharing.
Alright so I was able to finally flash this theme. So far so good. I noticed the "bevel" effect on the notification bar, but really not that big of a deal. VERY hard to see unless you're looking for it. LOVE the icons as well. Which theme are those from, or did you do them ALL yourself? either way Imma run this theme for a little while and I'll give you some feedback and suggestions later today. Any ideas on the horizon? One thing I did notice is that the keyboard is different....which makes sense. The transparent one of Smorg is SICK. All the initial checks are good, be back later with a full report
Thank you for helping me - Really appreciate it.
Plans are enhanced browser (no zoom buttons), icons for all default apps (and keep the ones i don't need/want/use in the update), nicer status bar icons.
In fact I am now running a version with new browser and new status bar icons - but I'm reluctant to release it to the World after this mornings (my time) debacle.
If you'd like to be my crash test dummy, you can try 094 here
Thank you!
/Mats
0.9.4 is working perfectly for me. wow, this is everything i want in a theme. thank you so much. can't wait to see what's next
edit: one thing that would be neat is to replace the notification icons to match the rest of the theme

Icon background is my own. very simple with 2 gradients in a rounded rectangle actually.
The actual icons are mostly by a guy/gal by the "name" of chrfb on DeviantArt. A few apps I didn't find anything matching for, so I had to come up with something myself, like Super User.

I was talking about the gmail notification icon, it's the default one, unless something messed up when I was flashing.
I am currently working on two themes to commemorate the Tron Legacy movie coming out in December: "Encom" and "Tron Legacy". Progress is slowly and regularly being made, and themed components are finally starting to roll out for testing. Known Issues:
Launcher tray background needs to be black. Must figure out how to change.
Image deviance on launcher graphics between normal state, and delete states.
Clock/Date still in black font. Must figure out how to change to white.
I am really liking how this one is coming together. The launcher bar matches with the wallpaper so well, and what I have done as far as the status bar has promise too.
So lemme know your opinions and recommendations, and I will do my best to make some quality theme for all of us. Just keep in mind this is my first attempt at theming (though I have done a lil bit of graphic work in the past).
Also, here are the wallpapers I am including with the themes. Encom's has been cropped from the remote access to Hardington's desktop. Legacy's was taken from a movie poster. (One with text added, and one without)
View attachment 299495
*Wallpaper and Encom trademark is property of its respective owners (Disney and 42 Entertainment) with editing and modification by me.*
*Remember to always do a nandroid backup before any major changes*
Just added pics. lol fail on me. Tried linking pics from tinypic, but didn't even think to use built in image attachment.
Just added a second theme to pair with the first. Lemme know what you think.
tron FTW but make the screens show your home screen or something
Each theme is currently showing the photoshop mockup of my homescreen. Much more work is required before this hits my actual phone.
i sir support the development of this theme
Damn yeah, i'd love to see how far this get.
Mya adw.one theme started as "tron theme" in my mind... but it ended in a very different concept... so if you manage to get the tron feeling, i'll definately be using/supporting it.
If i can be of any help, just pm me or tweet me!
Thanks for the offers. Once I get more into the technical part of making the theme I'll keep you all in mind. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up most of the knowledge I need from the forums, and other tutorials around, but it is always nice having some friendly backup.
Put up a test of the launcher for metamorph. Eventually want to do this for advanced launcher since this is what I use normally, but I was running into some issues with signing. For some reason my computer is giving me trouble with this. But that is a hurdle for another day.
Remaining issues:
Need to figure out what file to modify in order to change the launcher tray background to match the black launcher.
In normal state the middle bottom bar is hidden, but all other states is visible? Lost on this one. Exact same file, just different colors. It appears that the normal state is stretching just taller than the others as well. (this is visible since the bars are taller on this state)
Anyways, let me know what you think.
Two versions of the status bar are available in the original post. A two-tone black bar, and a grid bar to match the wallpaper.
I'm having a tough fight over the choice of these. The two-tone is nice and simplistic, but the grid just looks cool.
Issues: Clock/Date still in black font. Must figure out how to change.
Tron Legacy:
I have just posted updated metamorph files in the main post. This update merges the status bar, launcher, and wallpapers into one morph.
You have the option to choose between stock launcher, and advanced launcher. If advanced launcher is not found it will be automatically installed for you.
There are still some minor tweaks I want to do for these files to clean things up, but I consider this release to be the first step towards a usable theme. Give her a spin, and let me know what you think.
will this work on my nexus one?
Just wondering...
Im using the CaNNoN Eclair 2.1 rom for the htc magic, however after applying this theme using MetaMorph, I just get fc's after rebooting from MetaMorph.
Am I missing something? lol. Maybe this isn't for 2.1 just yet...?
This appears to be an oversight by me. Appologize for this. This is my first theme, and didn't realize what specific parts would make a theme be usable by only one rom build. I am building this rom based on my G1's CM 4.2.15.1. Once I have a complete rom built I will look into seeing what I have to do to port this for other roms.

Yes, and Yes. You need root to use custom roms such as cyanogen mod, as well as to run apps like metamorph.
On a side note, I am half tempted to break the files back up into individual morphs. That way the parts that aren't locked into an individual rom can be used by anyone. *at least until I can get a full theme created. I'm really not worried about whether people use my whole theme, or just parts of it to their liking. Might as well make things easier on people. I've been real busy with school lately, coming up on finals so haven't had the chance to do much with the theme. Hope to get back to working on it soon.
Alright I finally did some more work on this. Finished the Encom Launcher, and upped for your use. Came out real clean and professional looking. Let me know what you think. Have a Link in main post.
Will be posting the regular launcher for Encom soon.
Figured out a few more things about how the launcher files work and didn't run into the problems I ran into with the Legacy launcher. Because of this I am going to be going back and fixing those issues on the Legacy launcher next so I can check that off the list.

good job with this. I sent you a pm the other day. check it out.
Thanks for the info eessel. Will help getting my services.jar made for the status bar.
I spent a while looking for a blue theme yesterday and didnt find anything in here, so I moved to other forums and found the beautiful MattedBlues theme. I decided to port it even though it was for cm. It came out pretty nice, but I left the notification bar black since a gradient on the notification bar came out really low quality. I'm willing to update this and encourage you guys to find things to change. I packaged this in metamorph so it would be really simple to install, but if you're new to it, i'll give a short tutorial below. There's also an cwm zip for kb1 and cog now.

HOW TO INSTALL THEME:
Install metamorph (I think you need busybox too, so install that if you don't have it)
Download zip file
Move to SD card
open metamorph (press start checks)
press unzip/extract new theme
select zip and press close on window that pops up
press apply all and continue
WHEN IT PROMPTS YOU TO REBOOT, SAY NO. (you can, but then you have to repeat this process)
press pick existing theme and press BlueGB
Press blueGB.xml and then close on window
Apply all, continue, blah blah blah, when it prompts you to reboot the 2nd time say yes.
I think I read in a swype theme thread that you should always apply themes twice with metamorph. I ran into this when I was testing it and had to apply the theme twice to get it to work, so just do it to be safe.
HOW TO INSTALL BOOT ANIMATION:
1) Download the free app "Boot Animation Changer LITE" from the market
2) Plug phone into computer and turn on USB storage
3) Go to bootanims/stock
4) Replace bootanimation.zip with the one in the OP
5) Turn off USB storage
6) Allow su permissions, click on animations, scroll to STOCK, and press "Change to boot animation"
7) Let it do it's thing and restart. You should have the new boot animation!
This looks awesome! Will be using this for a while
Also, why did the title bar look like a bad resolution? How did you uncompress/recompress it?
Be sure to not use any compression at all... just put it in a zip file with no compression, otherwise it will make your images look bad...

EDIT EDIT: Still didn't work
Can someone make a KB1 compatable version?
with no clock !!
Man that's weird, looks bad without compression but with compression it looks a bit better... I'll mess around with this for a while, you can try it (just another morph to put on top) here if you'd like. As for KB1, could you do a nandroid backup and test it? AFAIK (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG) it should work for most of it, and extra files in the framework shouldn't get it stuck on a bootloop. If you tell me what's not themed, I can try to fix it.
EDIT: Oh, and comparison

Is there a way I can edit this myself to make my serendipity orb unlock match?

running this on uckb1. the toggles are off a little (mixed between old and new tw-framework), and whenever you have five bars of reception, it reverts back to white signal bars (serendipity is based on an i9000 framework, i believe, which only has four signal status bars).
i'd like to see this for uckb1 completely, but it does give me a solid black status bar, for which i'm eternally grateful. thanks much
EDIT: for boot and shutdown animations ... bootanimation.zip goes into /system/media, intact (use root explorer. your quality of life will quadruple after buying this app). shutdown.zip gets extracted; take the folder inside (shutdown) and put in /system/media/video. again, use root explorer.

Hoping this will work nicely with my new cog 4.1, first time I flashed so I'm trying to customize it and get further away from samsung's stock
Can you guys on kb1 post screenshots of the toggle icons and other things that aren't working? Also, I think I'm almost done with v1.1 with the semi-transparent notification menu and maybe some additional app theming, but since some of you like the black statusbar, i'll leave the original up too. I'd love to get this working on kb1 I'll look into the blue orb screen and do the best I can.
hopefully that's clear enough. wifi, bluetooth, and gps are on, silent and auto-rotation aren't. the notification background is stock.
thanks for the effort - just my two cents, but i'd love a transparent notification drawer background with black status bar.
edit: the battery icon reverts to touchwiz animation while charging.

Could you try this? It should give you the transparent notification menu. As for the toggle icons, I know exactly what's wrong but it may take a little extra time to finish because I'm going to use different icons (without the little bar thing).

Would you be ok if I just made 4 bars show up as 3 and 5 show up as 4? That's the simplest solution I can think of. I'll try to fix the battery thing right now, too.

I like the Blackout Theme! Nice!
One non-issue issue I found was that the Epic unlock screen has the icon missing. No biggie. Works fine otherwise.
Edit: After first boot with the theme, I was playing around with the wi-fi toggle in the pull down menu and it started to hang things up. Had to do a battery pull. Everything working ok so far now.
Is there any way you can do this with your swype theme? Yours is very close, but I'm really hung up on the grid pattern. It was on Precision 2.0 and I've had it with me ever since. The problem is that for me to bring it along, I have to do some quirky stuff to install it, so would be very cool if you would consider it packaged in your theme just to make life easier.

Is that allowed for me to post? I'll pm ya when I get to my computer later today.
The thing is, not sure if it's a easy as just including in your theme. I had to uninstall current swype.apk and libswypecore files, reboot, then download beta swype, delete the com.swype.inputmethod file in /data/app folder, THEN transfer the themed swype apk and lib files, and reboot (sometimes) to get it to work.
If I didn't do it this way the keyboard would still pop up, but you could only tap the keys to type. Swyping wouldn't work.
I told ya it was quirky.

If you applied the jacked up metamorph I added 1.1/1.1a you will need to SBF to get your **** right, sorry, I warned you. After you get SBF'd back to stock you can re-root and apply 1.1d. No more surprises, PROMISE!
After seeing a lot of requests for a Gingerbread theme I decided that since
MetaMorph seems to dangerously be working why not give it a go and just
compile a large Gingerbread theme for it.
Note of caution: Using MetaMorph can potentially softbrick your phone,
in all my testing I have yet to do so, but just know it is a possibility. I am not
responsible for anything that happens from you using this MetaMorph theme.

Changelog:
v 1.1X
- Added Non-Google Server signal icons +1
- Added other missed notification icons
- Removed that MMS icon (obsolete)
Thanks testing out now!!!
Edit: i extracted it to AndroidThemes and when opening it using Metamorph I can't find the .XML. Also, when trying to unzip using the original .zip file in metamorph, it tell me that the theme control file is missing?\
Edit2: NVM found the solution

Yea I edited step 4....it seemed a little ambiguous at that point I should have
screened it step by step. I'm cloning the CM7 repo right now for the other images I need.
Donating soon!
I'm totally wiped after work today...i'm cloning every repo I need, including the
documentation on what gets compiled where and then i'll update tomorrow in the
AM with v2.
Also going to be adding multicolor themes...(cyanogen, red, white, pink, etc.)
OK, so my WiFI, Battery icon, and black notification bar seem to be going well..
HOWEVER, for my signal bar, when I boot it up it shows the Gingerbread style signal icons, then after approx. 5 seconds it disappears and shows the stock icons.
Could Jewremy's Mods have affected this?

OK, let's run over this again...
- You SBF'd to get rid of Jewremy's Mods
- Re-rooted
- Re-applied the MetaMorph
And still no success?
Bear in mind, I haven't used Jewremy's mods.
After some looking...it will be easier to mod Jewremy's ModKit...and update this thread with
the modded version, if he'll allow it.
Yeah--Of course I could've just pushed the old framework-res.apk back onto my system, but there was so much edited crap inside the old framework-res.apk that I decided to just SBF.
Yeah, you can see the changed signal icon for like a few seconds when the phone boots up but right after, the icons change back to the stock icons. The same thing is happening with the 3G icon.
I think it will be easier to use Jewremy's ModKit to apply these mods. having the SystemUI.apk constantly force closing and stuff is going to give people a tough time!
It sounds like it has something to do with when the phone syncs with google, it changes to the stock icons. Did you change those also? There are the white ones, and the green.

Well after visiting the idea a little more thoroughly...i'll feel much better using
metamorphs...i'm looking through Jewremy's stuff trying to figure why they
default back to the stock, especially if the values/images have been
changed/overwritten on the SystemUI.
The changes metamorph makes are not as system intensive as Jewremy so
from a theming perspective not using his mods may be a price to consider
when using metamorphs. Nothing against him or his mods.
I've decompiled SYstemUI.apk and i'm sifting through what I can in it right now.
I left out icons in the metamorph unintentionally, working on releasing the newest
now...to be exact I included icons for 'fully' whenyou ryou are connected to Googles
servers but left off the default ones...been months since I themed anything. New 1.1
zip in 20 minutes.
I've received permission for you to use Jewremy's ModKit for use in your themes.

[18:53] <kshen1> Jewremy: we're wondering if we could use your ModKit to create our own themes
[18:54] <Jewremy> yeah. go for it.
[18:54] <Jewremy> I used uot.dakra.lt and apkmanager to do everything.
So it is safe in a sense to change icons, notification pull down and lock screens? Im asking because I created a thread where people could post what they used and worked and its basically collecting dust, lol.

You should make a MM to get back to stock, too.
Also, can't wait for notification bar + overscroll + others.
v 1.1 w/ signal icon and other notification icon fixes upped, check OP.
@kshen, the reason you were getting that error was because I left some important icons out
of the folders, it has been corrected now.
Downloading now, will report back
