[Q] OTA update wont work? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
newb here!
i have FRG33 build on my phone, and some time ago an OTA update came out that i couldn't install (i get "failed to verify whole-file signature" "signature verification failed" errors). i'm guessing the update is the 2.2.1 release - so how can i install it? i figure there's something i can drop on the sd card and install from there but i don't know what to search for or why this error happens at all (and google has been exceedingly unhelpful)
any help?
thanks!

Is your phone completely stock? Unrooted, stock recovery, stock rom...?

erm.. how can i tell? <,<
i bought it from a friend
i'm pretty sure it's at least rooted though, whatever that means (sudo-like access to phone i guess?) since i have an app called superuser and i downloaded lamppu (led flash as flashlight) which apparently needs root access to work (and it works)
if you need me to paste certain things from settings/options, i can do that

Your phone has an unlocked bootloader if there is a padlock symbol on the first screen when you boot up (the one with the static x).
You can see what recovery is on the phone if you press and hold the volume down button while powering the phone on. This will take you to the Fastboot screen, and you will use the volume down button again to scroll down and select "Recovery" and then press the power button. That will either get you into the stock Android recovery (which will pretty much just be a /!\ symbol) or a custom recovery (which should have a nice text-based menu with options and such).
You can find out information about your ROM by going to Settings --> About phone, and scrolling down the bottom. If you would, post the various version numbers and settings and such.
If you are running another other than the stock recovery and a stock ROM, no OTA update will install for you.

aha, good stuff
here's what i got:
unlocked padlock symbol on boot
my recovery menu is "clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.7"
android ver:
2.2
baseband version:
32.36.00.28U_4.04.00.12_7
kernel:
2.6.32.9-27237-gbe746fb
[email protected] #1
build#
FRG33
so presumably no OTA updates
how do i get my updates then? (and stop the "you have an update, update now!" pop-up which pops up even during video playback.. i mean, really?)

If you want to get the automatic updates, you'll have to revert back to a stock ROM and a stock recovery. There should be instructions for that in one of the stickied threads.

well, i assume there's a way to update manually as well?
so i guess my question is
a) how do i know what's this OTA update (i.e. where i can find a link for it)
b) how do i install it manually?
and/or i guess more generally -- is there a general intro tutorial to tinkering with android phones that also explains terminology etc (for instance, you said i need a stock ROM, but from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One/Roms, FRG33 is a stock ROM, so am i misunderstanding terminology here? i.e. difference between ROM & build?)
thanks btw, you've been really helpful

Answer: SEARCH.
There must be at least 100 threads on this very topic. To update, you're either going to have to flash a new rom, or revert back to the original shipping rom. Search or read the wiki on how to do either.

Or disable signature checking on CW recovery and OTA updates will install fine.

i've tried searching but it's a little difficult when i don't know any related terminology (hence the request for an intro guide of sorts). it's not like i'm posting here without doing nothing else, but google queries like site:xda-developers.com nexus one ota error frg33 for example didn't yield much. i did find a how-to-get-back-to-stock tutorial here but i am still looking for a tutorial to understand that tutorial as i have no experience with adb or fastboot, etc. (not to mention its last updated date is a year ago (although last edited date is fairly recent.. but i'm still wary) i'm learning though.

is there any risk to doing this? if not, this seems to be the simplest option so far, but doesn't a failed signature check usually signal an incompatibility/corruption?
thanks again for your help guys!

The reason it failed the check is because custom recoveries use test keys, and OTA updates use release keys. It's quite safe

If you poke around a little bit, you'll find stickies referencing you to the NexusOne wiki. The following are two guides on adb listed there:

Nexus One, go back like from the origin

Dears,
I have a Nexus One that some months back I root follow some steps on this forums. All work perfect. But now, to get more easy updates I think in go back to like when I buy with the official OS and can receive and install directly the OTA updates because now not use too much the rooted advantages.
Exist a method to do this?
In the phone information show Android version 2.3.3 baseband version 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04 and Build number GRI40.
Any idea?
I already receive a OTA message to update to 2.3.4 but when say install the phone tell me that go to restart, after restart show me the Android System Recovery and a lot of options ( reboot, USB-ms..., etc, etc) and a error like not found one file (I not remember the name).
Is best unroot? Or exist any easy method to put the 2.3.4 (or latest version in the future) without need backup all the data, wait a lot to update, etc?
The OTA updates are simple and I never need backup the info before update.
Any help are welcome because Im lost :S
THANKS!
If I'm understanding you correctly. You want to go back to stock and receive updates through via google? If thats what you want to do.
Follow the instructions here. It will restore your phone to the original ROM it shipped with. Shortly after setting your phone back up you should receive updates fairly quickly. Last time I did it I was back up to current in a couple hours.
Thanks, but when say:
"Only if downgrading to stock builds older than FRG33, ONLY FOR AMOLED DEVICES - Revert HBOOT to older version.
******* WARNING - DOWNGRADING HBOOT ON SLCD DEVICE WILL BRICK IT !!! ******* EPF30 Attention - Amoled vs SLCD"
How I know what is my version of phone? I can know if is AMOLED?
Thanks!
If you use the FRG33 file it doesn't matter...
Just in-case you still want to know, you can check which screen you have by typing dmesg in a terminal emulator and scanning the results. AMOLED screen will show up as samsung_oled_panel SLCD will show up as something else...
Thanks!
Exist a easy method to get, for example now, the 2.3.4 version of Android without lost information, in simple steps for my Nexus One and without unroot the device?
Third option in this post, but without the first step:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13909618&postcount=2
Thanks guys!, I already downgrade to 2.1.1 and update by OTA to 2.3.4... Now think in root again ajajajaja. But now is more easy using the recovery that I have installed, its OK?
Yes it's a lot easier to root using recovery...
One extra doubt: after start with 2.3.4 the phone not have any information (like new one), but I found on my Market that exist a list of all my already downloaded applications as "installed" but on the phone not found this applications. The sync are active, but these applicaton not are autoinstalled again on the phone automatically and show as installed (that prevent that I can install again...) Any idea?

Rooting after Kies ICS Update

Hey everyone,
I apologize if this has already been asked; did some searching but didn't really find much.
So I updated my samsung galaxy tab 8.9 wifi to ICS via Kies when the update was released sometime back, not thinking that it would prevent me from being able to root (I know, stupid of me). I always figured Samsung devices were developer friendly, and always had easy ways to root them.
I tried the root instructions posted in all the tutorial posts, and unfortunately they does not work for me (and I presume others). I get a "E:unknown volume for path [/sdcard]" error when trying to access "apply update from external storage" from recovery. I assume this is a change to the bootloader/recovery that Samsung made to prevent unauthorized access (aka, rooting), which is kind of a bummer if you ask me.
When googling for that I found a lot of stuff, but nothing that really told me the best course of action to take for this tablet. Should I hold out for someone to come up with a solution, or would it be best to revert back to 3.2 (if that is even possible), and then "install" the package I saw on the XDA developers front page that gets ICS on the tab with root access. Or is there something else I should do? I've found articles explaining some courses of action, but none explicitly related to the new ICS update that was just released (these were mostly articles referencing the prior 3.2 version).
I realize it was only recently since the update was provided, but any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. I would like to have root again on ICS if possible!
Thanks.
Was answered several times, e.g. here

Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137
I just got mine rooted and I had the exact same issues as you. It's basically a broken root, as laid out in the OP of that thread I linked. See the How To section, subcategory Fixing Root.
Thanks,
I swear I did search, but apparently didn't know what key words to search for. I apologize for the duplicate post.
I have same issue and have thoroughly trawled the referenced threads. Can't access a root zip from recovery and can't flash a recovery from Odin. As a relative newb would really appreciate a step by step idiot's guide

Why not? What goes wrong? What recovery file did you try this with?
Tried various versions of cwm. Odin simply freezes although it has a connection to com6. Stock recovery same issue.

[Q] Need Help Unlocking Bootloader/Installing CM

I tried to unlock my bootloader, following various guides, and kept getting stuck on the "Download Mode !!!" part. I just want to install the latest stable version of Cyanogenmod on my phone since the stock ROM is being a real pain for me (very slow and unresponsive).
I have:
Android 4.1.2
Build Number: JZ054K
Software Version: AME-XXX
I read online that you need the Euro firmware to unlock the bootloader, can I flash the euro firmware and will it mess with my service? I'm confused as to how the firmware affects things since I've read conflicting information. I didn't flash my firmware a few hours before trying to unlock, so maybe that's the problem?
Seriously?
There aren't enough threads and guides for you to read already? Everything you need is already out there on this forum so why start another thread just because you are too lazy to search and read for yourself?
I have read around and have tried a number of guides a number of times. They haven't worked for me and I'm just wondering what i'm doing wrong. Even though all the information is out there, I don't have the experience to understand it apparently. I've spent hours trying to figure things out but i keep reading conflicting info and half-explained steps and now I'm just confused and would like a clear point in the right direction.
So, do i need to reflash the latest firmware, wait a few hours, then try again on a full charge? Or do i need a euro firmware? Which guide should i follow?
I've downloaded a few applications and driver packages and whatnot but if those could possibly conflict with each other and cause problems i could work with a fresh OS. I'm running OS X but i have linux VMs and friends with clean windows installs (mine is all sorts of messed up)

It isn't a question of firmware, the phone needs to have an unlockable bootloader to be able to be, well, unlocked. Here is a list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181581 of P880 bootloader versions. Follow the guide to check which BL your phone has.
Thats obsolete, all versions can be unlocked afaik, either with official method or by fuse editing. No need to keep sim card in,you just need proper drivers
Oh, OK, I didn't know that. But, even better, OP should not have any trouble, provided he follows the BL unlock guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224020
Maybe his BL is already unlocked OR is relocked (meaning can't be unlocked anymore).
Its more likely that his drivers are messed up imo.
The fuse editing method should work for everyone, i recommend you give it a try
So the fuse method would be the "BL-unlock.bat" method on that bootloader unlock forum post? I've tried it before, but I'll try it again. The directions only say to run it, is there anything else I need? Now, since it's a .bat file I absolutely have to run it on Windows, right? Because if so I'll use a friend's computer instead of my windows installation.
What are the necessary installations before I run the file? How should I configure settings on my phone? (like what type of usb connection should it be)
There are a lot of things that people expect readers to know but I'm really not very knowledgeable about standard practices for phone stuff so I really need every step. Thanks for helping!
Since its.bat file, you can open it in text editor to see which commands it executes. I'd still recommend to do it on windows machine, other OSs may work but aren't tested.
You need abd & fastboot drivers, plus drivers for our device. It's been a while since I've done it, but afaik you can get proper device drivers via lg support tool.

Also, correct me if i'm wrong I only had stock for 2hours, but also stock needs usb debugging to be enabled or adb won't work?
Yep, afaik usb debugging needs to be enabled
When you are fast enough, it is possible in charging mode wihle the carger animation is shown. But you have install adb driver very fast...
So I'm pretty sure I got the bootloader unlocked, I ran the .bat file and it went through everything until the part where it checks to see if my bootloader is unlocked, it just froze forever, so I closed it.
How should I go about checking?
Also, what would be my next step now for installing CM10.1.3? I tried to follow the guide on the cyanogenmod wiki (install_CM_for_p880) (I can't post links yet)
...but ran into problems with pushing it into root with adb. It said I didn't have permissions, so I googled some stuff, but just got myself confused.
Thanks for all the help btw!

you can check your bl status by entering sw mode (phone off, hold vol+ and insert charger) or reeboting into bl (adb reboot oem-unlock)
to install cm steps are:
-install recovery (you can choose either cwm or twrp, it's more about looks than functions)
-download rom zip onto sd card
-install said zip from said recovery, there's no adb involved
Now my personal opinion, I really don't see the point in flashing 10.1, i would go staright for cm11 if i were you
Ok well I think I got things together more or less, eventually I tried to install CM10.1 with the ROM manager app. I forgot to select the options to wipe my data partitions and now I'm stuck in an endless boot loop every time I turn the phone on. I tried to boot from my backup using CWM which I made with the app prior to trying to install, and it gave me an error about an MD5 checksum failing, no matter what I tried. Should I do the factory reset/wipe option with CWM now? What's my best option.
Also why would you recommend CM11 over CM10.1? I don't want to have to deal with a nightly, all this phone stuff is a supreme headache to me.

Factory reset then get nandroid manager app and see if you can restore your stuff with that
CM11 is bugless atm and performance (imo) is way superior
So after a factory reset/data wipe, my phone just booted into CM10.1 and now that's working. And it looks like all of my stuff on the phone is still there (though of course apps aren't installed and whatnot, that wouldn't make sense). Thanks for all the help!
I tried to find a feature list or something to see what exactly is better about CM11, and found out that "stable" doesn't exactly mean stable for CM, and that it looks like a good idea to update, so I think I will try to update to that. Do you know anywhere that has an actual feature list to show me what CM11 does that CM10.1 doesn't?

[Q] HTC One 831C - Location India

Dear All,
Two days before , I brought the HTC One (32 GB Golden) which on digging the Phone identity came to know the Model no 831C, later after goggling it came to know that I belongs to Sprint Carrier.
On inserting the code of Hardware components, I found few test/s were not passed and worked normally, other issues are TV app is not recognizing the server, Double Tap Screen wake/sleep works depending on its mood, vDM Client error pops up often.
Request all the experts here to please help me out with the Solution as to how can I make it work flawlessly.

1) Which tests didn't pass ?
2) Which ROM are you using ?
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
First of all, thank you for addressing my query & sorry for delay in revert.
Sir, I do know it’s the Sprint phone, as far your concern on below questions, let me try to answer them as below:
1) Which tests didn't pass?
When I run the all functions test by this code (*#*#3424#*#*) in one of the test the error word in green / red appears on screen
2) Which ROM are you using?
I believe it’s the Custom ROM, which would have be provided by Sprint. Software no is 1.54.651.8
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
No comments, will try to search the PSR on play store.
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Will strictly follow next time when I do it.
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
Its on Android KK 4.4.2
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
I didn’t find the option to disable vDM app nor did I found other apps of sprint. May I request you to suggest any alternates for it ?
Now, sir my other query is Is it advisable to flash a latest LP rom (i.e Goggle play edition or the rom developed by Bad boys team here) , also it seems that I am S-ON, because when I enter the bootload screen Power + Vol Down key where three android icon at bottom appears , I read LOCKED at the very top of the screen.
Pl. suggest whether it shall be advisable to do it if so request you to suggest the best ROM which shall run flawless in India.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards
Karan
Can somebody help me out with this please.. ??
The snapshots of my device are attached hereby, my only query is, and considering the attached images of device can I flash a Custom ROM on to it? Will that be advisable to do so? Are there the chances to Brick the device.
If the answer according to all the Experts here lies in assertive, which ROM is best, since this is a Sprint Device, I have found on the forum that Badboyz rom shall go flawless with any Sprint device, so may I go ahead with it. I am in India presently so wish that all the apps i.e Remote TV, Radio should run properly.

You need to delete the second and third pictures, there is way to much personal information in there.
The "Locked" at the top of the screen in the bootloader means that the bootloader is locked. If you look directly underneath it you'll see that it says "S-Off". To flash custom recoveries or roms or anything, you need the bootloader unlocked. You can do this using HTCDev, or since you're soff, you can unlock it via adb.
Once you're bootloader is unlocked, you should be set for everything. Flash a custom recovery like Captain Throwback's custom TWRP, get root if you don't have it already, update your firmware, etc. The bad boys xda page has most of this stuff in it.
Note: Your phone is supercid, so you're not limited to just sprint roms.
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 AM ----------
Also, just wondering what exactly were the tests that failed when you did *#*#3424#*#* ?
Thanks a lot sir, I am grateful to you, I have followed you instruction of deleting the images.
Now, last night I did the Factory Hard reset (P+V-DN keys), it went fine, except the data was erased which I never wanted to be backed up though I was haunting of loosing the Sim Lock, but all went fine.
I have my registration on HTCDEV too, and the process of obtaining the TOKENID should go without any hassles.
Now in pursuant to your advise below, will it still be mandatory to unlock the bootloader ? or I may follow the process of wipe/data and then immediately flash the BB's Rom ?
Further, I stand corrected that all the function tests are passed normally, it was my mistake of not placing the Handset on the plain surface while performing one of the test.
Finally, why the model no in phone identity says 831C, and not M8 - May I request your views on this please?
Thanking you once again for addressing, all you guys are rocking, I am here on this forum since 2008, and needless to say "A Proud Member"
All my Best wishes to MEMBERS.

Yes, you still need to unlock the bootloader. After that you need to flash a custom recovery.
After doing these two you will be able to flash a custom rom, just make sure you follow all the instructions on the BB rom page

Hi ssantos132,
I found there is a SuperSU app preinstalled on my Handset, which prompts me to Grant access when I try to install some other apps from PS- goggle, is my device rooted, because I have found in this link (http://blog.laptopmag.com/root-htc-one-m8), wherein lastly the SuperSU app gets installed automatically.
Pl. guide.
Thanks
Yeah, it looks like you already have root. Try downloading a root checker app from the play store if you want to make sure.

Well thanks for replying. I did that earlier, it says Congratulation your device is rooted. So now when we have concluded that my device is Rooted, the only thing left to be done is, flashing a Custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM right ? Incase if its already been rooted and say if I re-do it, any risk for Device?
Pl. guide.

Yeah, once the bootloader is unlocked you can flash a custom recovery then a rom. You can't flash a custom recovery through TWRP or CWM though. Download a custom recovery then use fastboot flash recovery recovery recovery.img
Believe me, That is one rare cellphone you have got.
I am having the same and as I tried few roms, without backing up the radio and replaced it with some random one. Now my phone is just a toy to play with.
I ll suggest you to stick with the rom you are having right now, Take a nandroid backup of the rom, radio and everything else. and keep it safe for future. You will never be able to find them online for this particular phone.
If you would like to help me solve my phone's issue, Please upload the radio. My phone is just laying around in my desk as I have no way to get it to work.

Dear All,
Two days before , I brought the HTC One (32 GB Golden) which on digging the Phone identity came to know the Model no 831C, later after goggling it came to know that I belongs to Sprint Carrier.

I know about these devices that are being sold in India. I bought a used phone on OLX having same model number with the exact similar problems. I assume these devices are development only devices which don't run a final version of software. I have noticed that most of the issues in the phone are software related. Using my development expertise, I was able to fix most of the problems and upgrade the firmware to Lollipop, however I have messed up the radio and was unable to restore the radio firmware to anything that actually works (This phones come with a radio version that can't be obtained from any online source). If you can provide the radio image from your device, I will prepare a flashable zip to upgrade the firmware to Lollipop which would include the modem you provide, along with instructions on how to unlock the device and flash it to get going. Probably this would iron out the issues that you are facing with your device.
To grab the radio image from your device, use the following command from "adb shell" or Terminal Emulator
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20 of=/sdcard/radio.img
You will find a file in the sdcard (Internal) named radio.img. Please upload it and provide me with a link.
I would advice you not to make any changes to the device until I provide you with clear instructions on how to do so. Trust me, I really had a hard time with this phone.
Well thanks indeed for the time you took for replying, Sir are you from India Since the name sounds such ?
Secondly, I am desperately looking to upgrade the Software to Latest 5.02 Lollipop from present Kitkat, my basic requirement is that any ROM to which I flash should at least contain the Stock FM Radio, wherein it should be able to tune in the Indian Radio Station.
Confusing issues which keep me scratching my head is that I have pre installed SuperSU app in it. Also I re checked it via installing the app Root Checker which indicated that my device is Rooted. However as and when I tried my device to restart it in Recovery mode it starts normally after a while , the SuperSU app is not getting started.
Can you help me through please. Favor me with (1) Do I need to unlock the Bootloader ? (2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ? (3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio (4) A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Thank You once again.

(1) Do I need to unlock the Bootloader ?
YEs, you must unlock it. It won't affect the phone's basic functunalities
(2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ?
Yes. I recommend twrp.
(3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio
None for the phone we are using A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Please don't upgrade the rom as it might mess with the boot("radio") . Upload your radio and wait for Dhiru's post.
thanks, where shall I get the Radio file please ?

[Q] First Time Rooter, Gs6 SM-G920T, need help intresting problem cant find fix.

#1-"com.tmobile.pr.adapt (10001) has been granted superuser permissions for an interactive shell" pops up on my screen every 30 seconds on the bottom of my screen in a grey box.
#2- i also noticed that i can accept and recieve calls but i can not hear, nor can the other person hear me. if i use hangouts video call, skype, etc it works fine.
#3-i also tried to get rom manager to make a recovery and it says it needs to get CWD recovery to install a new software, the first thing we need to do is install a up to date version, we will begin that process now... etc.. then it says to get started you must first sset up a custom recovery, it gives two options a samsung galaxy s3 on metro pcs or a samsung previal 2 on boost mobile, or device not listed, when i click that it says "SM-G920T does not have an officially supported CWDR yet. Have you installed a CWD based recovery manually?" so im not sure what to do from there, or if i even need that. i have been a iphone user since day one went to android after reading up a lot on it, although rooting is quite different than jailbreaking it seems, i am incredibly excited to get started if i can get past these little problems and get started and figure everything out. ANY advice, or anwsers to these problems would be Greatly appreciated! thanks!
Also i went to dev options in settings and noticed the "OEM unlocking- allow the bootloader to be unlocker" was turned off, i dont know if this is necessary to root if i did something wrong by not turning it on or what, or if it may fix any problems above if i turn it on now. thanks!
I have a samsung Galaxy S6 (SM_G920T) . i Rooted and did not trip Knox, Although i did just remember that my fingerprint sensor is not working either.
Thank you guys so much this si a incredible forum i have spent hours and hours reading and researching before making this post i appreciate it so much!
#1 Freeze that ****. Use some root tool to freeze that T-mobile apk, seems u gave it root permissions at some point. I believe there are a lot of apps that you will want to do the same.
#2 ? No idea. Stock rom/kernel?
#3 What is this I don't even. Don't do that. Go to TWRP's official web, get your zeroflte (SM-GT920T) twrp and flash it via ODIN, or else get the recovery.img and use flashify. All that assuming you want a custom recovery.
You will need to unlock the bootloader if you are on 5.1.1. I believe locked will prevent changes or wiping anything on the OS partitions, even recovery (can someone confirm?)
I believe jailbraking and rooting should be pretty much similar, if not the same, as both target to grant the user root access to do whatever he pleases on the OS.
Welcome to android btw.
How did you root? Sounds like you used the modified sboot which causes no sounds in calls and nonfunctional fingerprint scanner. If so, flash back to stock and use a different rooting method. The rest, pretty much what the above poster stated
Root
I rooted using the version that I found the only one that works it seemed like, went to Odin put my phone In download mode and then put the boot loader download in BL and the. Put a something unikernel.sbin I believe, whatever the guide said also then it was done. I thought you couldn't use the twrp or custom recovery etc on tmobile one yet but I just read a thing about xtrestolite odex pure v2 which says it's for 5.1.1 and my model of phone but in the guide it says to root using CF auto root and a link there to it but the link doesn't have my phone on the list that the guide that clearly is my phone says to use I don't know if I'm missing something but I want to use it I understand most of it but I don't know if I need to unropt first and re root then use Odin and flash twrp that's supported on my phone then use that to recover the rom. Etc. The kernel that says is used in the guide is the same one I downloaded so do I need to remove it all then let it do that or?
Sorry if this didn't make sense I'm halfway there between confused and understood I have spent the last 10 hours reading and trying to figure this out though lol. Thanks guys!
Also
Sorry for adding more but also how do I flash back to stock? Search for the download to the stock image of my phone? Also I could only find one way of rooting everything else said it wasn't working yet or am I missing a big portion of something here?
Just flash the 5.1.1 firmware to return to stock. To root, flash unikernel with Odin. The other method you used was to not trip knox, but as you experienced has side effects. I had to Odin back to 5.1.1 myself. Can't have those issues
thanks!
so how do i flash back to 5.1.1? find the ling to completely stock 5.1.1 and flash through odin in the same spot and same way i flashed the kernel to root? also.. i rooted with " s6_UniKernel_v2-0003-ODIN.tar" is that not the one you were talking about?

Yes, flashing to 5.1.1 works exactly like that. You need to get the version for your model (very important on this one) and then simply place that file in the AP field of ODIN while the device is in recovery mode. It is normal for ODIN to freeze for 2 minutes while verifying. Make sure to use a MD5 checker tool on the firmware before flashing.
Rooting has historically required more technical savvy and balls than jailbreaking, but PingPong made rooting the S6 brain-dead simple. CF-Auto root is still pretty painless, but you must make sure you have the right zip for your device.
Anyhoo, the quickest & easiest way to restore phone calls & fingerprint scan is to use Odin to get back to bone stock.
Next, use PingPong to root. After rooting, "com.tmobile.pr.adapt" will ask for root access. That is T-Mobile's "phone home" app and sends info about your device (probably including root status). Deny it root access and make sure you check "Remember my choice", and it won't bother you again. You will not lose any functionality by denying it root, so terminate that crap.
Don't bother with rom manager. CWM is archaic. If you want a custom recovery, use TWRP. You can install TWRP either using Odin or TWRP Manager app (it's free).
Good luck and have fun with your S6

Are you still rooted? If so, and if you are experiencing the call audio issue, go flash AOU's kernel. He has made a kernel for the tmo s6. that should eliminate your call audio issue. The finger print scanner is the only issue with flashing his kernel. Also, I rooted with the modded sboot, his TWRP and kernel, and I didn't trip knox
