Hey there, the ol' captivate has been driving me crazy lately and figured i would finally post and ask for some help. I've had this one for about 3 months & this is my second Captivate, first one dropped calls but i also dropped it a few times lol. I'll be on the phone and then just randomly boom, i'm talking to dead air. A few times lately i've noticed the screen will be on/flash on, when it drops the call or an app/icon will be highlighted as if it's been selected. Have also felt it vibrate a few times before dropping a call and seeing the screen come on. Then again a few times it has dropped a call then i get no response from any of the buttons or screen and it seems powered off......only to start working about 10 seconds later. It really is a mixed bag as far as the symptoms go...
It is rooted and running a version of Cog but it did this before it was rooted and with rom. I've went a week without it happening then sometimes it will be 2-3 times in a row then nothing for a week. Nothing to do with the weather or a tower being down as AT&T said lol, i just figured it had to be phone related with the screen or something. Any help would be appreciated, i love my phone and this is the only problem i have with it..would be great to get it sorted out

I have a tilt and for some reason the last couple of days it will just turn its self off. It has done it twice while I was in the middle of a call. Any know what could be causing this. ATT stock ROM... Second one already exchanged one with same problem, No Software installed....
Me too! I have the same issue. I tried to reset Tilt (from Setting options) and it did not solve the problem. I am seeking ways to solve this issue before I have to call ATT.
Please Help!!!
this started happening to me about 1 month ago, it's progressively gotten worse (phone turns off after 2min call even with full battery). At first I thought maybe the phone was overheating because immediately turning the phone back on after it shut-off during a call the phone would get half way through booting and then turn off again.
Luckily my phone is under warranty for another couple weeks (cutting it pretty close!) I called att and they think it's a battery problem. they sent me a new one... I just got it today. Going to do some heavy use and see if I can get it to turn off.
keep ya posted.
charged the new battery completely and then ran it all the way down testing it with phone calls / internet surfing / downloads... no crash or power off. looks like the battery was the problem.
Two nights ago my tilt was charging and the red light was constant and would not go away.I read on the forum that if i inserted the battery in and out numerous times i'd hear a pop and the light would go to green which it did.i started to make a call or two and no problems. Next morning it showed the 3g on the top but when i tried to make a cll, it would not even ring on other end and it would say call ended. This happened a few times. I did a oft reboot and this time the Edge network showed up on the top and the phone worked ok. next call, it automatically switches to 3g and nothing .I called attech support and after 45 mins they said that it must be a tower problem. i said how hell can that be when my son's lg vu is on 3g and it works perfectly.so tonite i go for the 3rd time to the att store and the guy does a hard reset and for next 6 calls it works great. Now again when it shows 3g on top i cannot make or receive any calls but intermittently it goes to edge and it works. What in the world is going on? I am about to toss this bloody thing intothe river!!!
5 days old now and 2 recurring problems i have noticed.
1: Sometimes when i unlockthe phone the lock image stays halfway and then the phone hangsand then i have to hardboot it.
2: I travel a lot and change sim cards. So when i land and change a sim card and make a call the other side cant hear me. So i have to restart the phone and then all works well.
Both these issues are recorded not 100% but have happened to me 3 times in last 5 days.
Anyone facing similar issues.
I assume this is just Windows and maybe within the next couple of updates this MAY go
Can't quote on the multi-sim issue but having my phone sinmce 21st Oct i've never had the Unlock problem you're stating. I've had the phone crash on me twice i think, but that was simply the screen becoming unresponsive (both time whilst in the MarketPlace. Hmmm.....)
You could have a faulty unit.
I have had the loss of voice issue a few times now.
Phone someone up and they cant here me. Also if I go to put it on speaker phone it doesn't go very loud.
Take the battery out, put it back in and it all works again.
Is this a hardware or software fault ????????
My guess of it happens at random then its not hardware. Its a software glitch. Also for me it happens when the battery is low.
Yes the screen has become unresponsive and then had to reboot.
Don't remove your battery just keep the on/off button pressed for long. It works.

This happened to me also, the speaker phone is very very soft, you can barely hear it I hope they fix this on the next update.
Market also crash on me earlier, just blank white screen, had to turn off and on again.
did you turn up the volume on speakerphone? or was it using the same level as everything else?
first couple of weeks I had several times where an incoming call I couldn't hear the other person talking. This happened about 4 or 5 times in the first week, but hasent happened for about 7 to 8 days now so I'm wondering if it was one of the HTC hub updates I've recieved.
If it happens again it's going back to the shop
Hello, So i have had the Captivate for a full 2-3 weeks now from rogers Canada.
LOVE IT ! Not much lag, GPS super accurate but Ive come across few problems that may be related to software.
For the first time tonight, my phone shutdown. It wasnt charging or anything, but i couldnt unlock it and the opening animation lit up when holding down the side so i assume it had shutdown.
But my biggest worry is 3 days ago, and again last night, I woke up to find my screen all black and white, (like a faded black) and phone was completely unresponsive. I had to remove battery and reinsert, then it would start up and work normally all day. I really do not wish to return it, unless I have too, but can this be app related? or just buggy? I will keep track, but couldnt find any other with this issue on google search.
Hopefully someone here can help.
It's been a problem with AT&T Captivates and my phone suffered as well. There's a thread in General section where people all talk about random shutdowns for their phone. Is your phone rooted? I think my shutdowns started happening when I just rooted the phone.. but somehow after I flashed a cog rom, it was all ok...
This is my mom's phone that she's had forever and will not part with. I safestrapped and rooted it several years ago, and kept it current (it's running 5.1.1). The phone was working great, then she left it charging for about three days before she remembered to grab it. I went to turn it on for her and it was dead. So I plugged it to my charger (very good) and nothing happens. Charger port is bad, no biggie. I transferred out her battery with a spare fully charged S4 battery, booted and all was fine, except we realized calls weren't coming in to her. Her phone doesn't ring, vibrate, do anything on the screen to indicate a call, nothing. But immediately after the call ends, she gets the missed call notification and voicemail shortly thereafter. Nor can she call out.
It was an ATT phone, but is unlocked and through T-Mobile (for more than a year now). I've been rooting and hacking for almost a decade, dozens and dozens of devices, millions of troubleshooting problems (5 kids with every electronic possible from ages 2 to now graduating from highschool). I can't figure this one out. It says it's registering on the network, but after attempting a call out or a to call her, it suddenly says there's no sim. I've tried other sims, as well and no luck.
Any ideas? I don't think she will use ANYTHING else!
