I have done all my research on the new HD7. I currently have the HD2 and love what WM7 lacks right now. Such as cut and paste and tethering. I use those all the time! But, I HATE my HD2. It freezes like crazy, always lagging, I have to soft reset 1-2 times a day. So I"m ready to upgrade to WM7. I've owned an Android before, g1, and loved it, but I like WM a bit more. I started to look at the MyTouch4g, but I keep getting pulled ot the HD7. So my dilema ow is, should I upgrade to the HD7 from my HD2. Is the current WinMo7 worth it? Has anyone has a change to play around with the new system. I've read so many good, and some "ok" and many just an HD2 with a new outfit.
I also know it's a personal choice by far. But what are YOUR opinions. What do you like/dislike compared to others.
I have to say I'm loving mine and think it's a good thing (in a funny way) that there are features missing. We get to look forward to updates to a system that has really great foundations.
Having said that there is a bit of a danger in thinking that every missing feature and every imaginable improvement will make it into imminent updates. MS are in this for the long haul and some improvements won't materialise over the lifetime of the initial batch of phones.
Copy/paste will be coming soon but we just don't know other features. We can just hope. So, if you can't live without tethering it might be worth waiting until early next year to see if news emerges on a timescale.

I still have my i637 jack. I suggest you wait like me, We got to atleast see if Microsoft is gonna even mention addressing the other issues besides the ones they say they will fix in early 2011. Although im personally seeing are they gonna stay true to their words by listening to their supporters.

You have 14 days with T-Mobile to return the phone and get a new one or reverse your upgrade if you choose to. You pretty much have nothing to lose. Rather than asking everyone else what they think, the best thing to do is always to just get the phone yourself, try it out and see if you like it.
That being said, the HD2 ran an unfortunately unfriendly and antiquated operating system that was not designed for nor optimized for the HD2. Even HTC's Sense could not save it. Sad because its still a top-notch phone hardware wise. Which is why Windows Phone 7 was built from the ground up and optimized for hardware matching the HD2 and beyond. If you've seen any videos online, you should notice how dramatically smoother and seamless the whole experience is.
When people talk about about how the HD7 is just an HD2 in a new outfit, that is totally correct. It is the HD2 essentially, hardware wise. But the outfit is just as important as the hardware, and Windows Phone 7 is not Windows Mobile 6.5, not by a long shot.
Try out the phone, if it turns out that its not for you, then please take advantage of the return policy and try out a different phone. That's the only way you'll really get a real opinion.
I will be jumping ship on November 8 over to the HD7 and T-Mobile. The Evo, as awesome a hardware as it is, simply does not have the 'outfit' to match it. Windows Phone 7 provides the polish, features, and speed that I need, and I can't wait.
I'm going to get the HD7 on Nov 8th as well. I've used Android since the G1 and ave had just about every Android phone T-Mo offers (except the Behold 2). Right now I have the myTouch 4G, and while it is an awesome phone, it's not doing it for me. I really like how WP7 looks. I also have a Zune HD, and I like the software on it, and WP7 is very similar.
If you are prepared to wait for the new OS to mature and for "jailbreaks and hacks" to become available then go for it. If you want to be abe to tweak from day 1 and have every possible feature that is out there then stay with 6.5 or go for android. I have a horrible feeling these forums are going to fill up with people moaning about lack of this that or the other feature. I myself like the interface so much that I want to be part of the WP7 thing from day 1 hence I have my HD7 already and am lovin it warts an all!!

Kind of what he said. Buy it and see. I'm getting it because I want to be part of the new revolution of Winmo. And honestly, have found myself not to concerned about what it's lacking as hell, it still the basic things you expect in a smartphone and I'm willing to give up some the apps I've used on Winmo and Android ports to the HD2. Most of them are just because I wanted to do something and not really needed. But with a browser, slingplayer coming soon, office, phone calls, text, and Slacker for streaming radio. That pretty much rounds up the stuff that I use on a regular basis (oh just need a golfgps app) and that's it. But, I'm planning on keeping my HD2, juuust in case there is something I need. My advice, jump into and see what you think and try not to think about the very minor things you'll be missing. You might actually find that you start finding more time for real life as opposed to your virtual phone life that's wasted from having billions of apps to check. I know I will and I'm looking forward to it!
That's everyone for your opinions. I am usually one to get the new "it" thing as soon as it comes out, usually the day it comes out (well only phones) But not so much when a new phone comes out, just the next biggest thing. In this case, WinMo7. I've owned 3 Win Mo phones (SDA, Dash and HD2) Android (G1) and iPhone along with all the other basics before the SDA, and I can surely say, I like WinMo the best. I do like to completely customize my phones. I found WinMo to have the best broad range to do this. I'm not one to load my phone with apps, except to customize, which is why I don't mind the almost nothing there marketplace for WinMo.
I will probably be one of the ones jumping on the bandwagon and getting the HD7 on Monday as well. I do like their return policy, but don't like their $10-$20 restocking fee that you have if you return it. I'm sure I will end up liking the HD7. For the most part I have a love/hate relationship with my HD2. I think what I hate is WinMo6.5 because after customizing it was perfect for me. I'm sure over time the developers here will come up with ways to customize the HD7. I think I can wait. Plus, I would get the "new phone" feeling with HD7, vs getting an android which seems to never change it's basics.
Also, how is everyone getting their phones?
I'm thinking about getting it at WalMart since their price is $150 with a new 2 yr contract, (have to verify if an upgrade counts)
T-Mobile's is $250 with a 2 yr contract with a $50 mail in rebate (which I always seem to forget to mail out on time!)
Do Not Buy A W7 phone
I have had an HTC HD 2 phone from when they came out and a week ago bought an HTC HD7 WHAT A MISTAKE I have put it in the bin. Any one that says it is better than (shudder to think an iphone) is not in the real world,
No File transfer using Pc You have to use Skydrive long winded.
very basic functions and its display looks s***t
Best advice is go into a phone shop and have a play but be aware that what you see is all you get!.
I am 52 years old and have been involved and used computers from being about 25, and have found windows has always been the best platform and have hated Apple for there lack of user input it has always been thats what you get like it or lump it, but I will certanly be buying an apple or android in the next 2 weeks.
So microsoft stuff it!

You write and complain like a child. So I am going out on limb and say that you are not 52 years old and you haven't handled one yet. Since the screen resolution is exactly the same as HD2 and from what I have read it has the S-LCD so its even better. You are the first that I have seen to complain about the screen especially since you are an HD2 user. I guess you have the special HD2 screen no one else has.
I also doubt if you have been in and around computer for 25 years. Your complaint about Apple leads me to believe you are not being honest. Are you complaining about your HD2? You fail to mention that. You don't like Apple and believe that MS is the best platform yet you are moving away from WM6.5 and WP7 and getting an IPHONE or ANDROID?
So in conclusion you tried out an HD7(alleged) and thought the SAME EXACT SCREEN AS YOUR HD2 was crap? The WP7 OS and the Screen was so horrible that you went into a trance like state fueled by your anger towards MS that you decided to tell MS to stuff the SOLE PLATFORM you have been using for the past 25 years? Then you just tucked it away into a BIN instead of returning the phone because you could no longer stand to touch or have it in your sight.
Ahh that makes SENSE!

I think you have this guy nailed.
Theres a rumor the HTC HD7 windows phone is coming out for Sprint, im from android to tell the truth... I think windows mobile 7 is a great OS the tiles look great in my case I recently had a htc hero and well there are no 1 ghz phones for 3g that you dont need to pay 10$ a month for 4g just to your the phone...the 3g 1ghz HTC HD7 looks promising I didnt like android at first to till the truth I still have a 50/50 love/hate but I love Winodws mobile 7 when this phone comes out for sprint i'm so getting it, its seems so promising for development~ who knows what the price might be? I'm gonna get oen and I might try to make my first ROM and Themes and ETC. I love this OS, I think it'll acutlly be a competetor for Android un-like the iphone in my opinion as said herehttp://www.pcworld.com/zoom?id=208491&page=1&zoomIdx=1 I'll lose a lot of things from android to HTC HD7 but I think most of the accusations from PCworld are fake but I hope this phone becomes a great succes
I now have my HD7 for some time, since 2nd day it was launched in o2 UK to be exact.
I was at first trying to sell my HD2 but now I can not do it. The wow factor of HD7 is gone and now for me HD7 is just a phone while HD2 well can not explain.
I guess with HD2 it is better to have and not need rather then need and not have.
So how many of you at the end did not sell the HD2?
Do not sell hd2 after buying hd7. You wil be sorry, hd2 is legacy.

What your HD2 did that as my one is perfect, I only got HD7 when I drowned HD2 and was waiting for replacement.
I got my HD2 and HD7 for free as price for winning some developing contest.
I gave hd2 to a friend, dont get me wrong, HD7 is perfect but i miss hd2, as i said, hd2 is the greatest winmo device no matter what. it should be there as souvenir for all developers.
Ok obviously who ever needs the HD2 more than the HD7 is because of the options of constantly changing roms, dual booting, better GPS at the moment ect... But just as the recent comment. I loved the HD2 at one time but come on, HD2 does everything accept what a cell phone was meant for. Actually the HD2 is what made me miss having a phone that dont freeze and have glitches half of the time. Keyboard was horrible, so texting was another pain. I mean I just missed having to do the simplest things quick with no hassle or having to go thru an obstacle course. The HD7 brought all the simplicity of doing all these things and then some, quicker and faster than ever before. Yes its missing a few things some of us cant live without but I bet by the middle of 2011 that wont be a problem for them anymore. Im happy to be able to do simple things fast and easy with a touch of a new feel of something modern. Thats my thought on my HD7 God Bless...

Swype keyboard is much faster then any normal touch keyboard, I could do texting 2x as fast as now.
What freezing, I am sorry but OzRom from about middle of it's development was bullet proof.
I mean yes apps will be there for HD7 but there is so much staff that will take ages as no one thinks about it at start of using the phone.
I have a conversation in sms that has now 30 messages and I can delete all (do not want to) or nothing.
Bluetooth is useless if used on anything other then headsets.
There is a lot to do yet if the phone was 100% stable. That is why I think HD2 is epic. Plenty off stuff could have been and was sorted.
I kept mine for 2 reasons:
1. Always keep my last phone as backup. This means my previous backup (O2 Ignito/Dimond) has now been handed down the familiy.
2. Copilot is the best SatNav, but once one comes to the HD7, I will be putting the HD2 in storage.
The HD2 was the best WM phone ever, and I've been using WM/WinCe for about 9 years. Only problem is it came the year of the death of WM, so no further development happing outside of xda-devs.
I always used the Energy ROMs, and have been trying some of the Android builds, just as an opertunity to see what it's all about. Again it's just for Copilot because my key works on that too. Other than the fact you can get updates for Copilot, I really don't see the differenct between WM and Android, so glad I went with the HD7.
Will co-pilot/tomtom ever be available on wp7 as if it does then my HD2 will go to box for ocassional usage (PSX console).

+1 The HD2 is the best phone in history. It has won popularity polls and is a phone that can be any phone. It is reliable and has outstanding hardware.
I have an HD7, but I didn't even think for a moment to get rid of my HD2 or stop using it. I use Android on mine and it serves me well. Currently using the revolutionary new Darkstone SuperRAM Nexus One build on it. The SuperRAM uses the RAM of the HD2 for operation as opposed to ROM or NAND running from the card. This makes it almost like an actual flashed ROM but faster. There is research into the viability of doing actual ROMs this way rather than flashing.
Sold my hd7 and I did keep my HD2 TMOUS. For the moment HD7 is too limited to use. I couldn't even log in my security cam on my HD7 - useful software is limited, you can't even get decent navigation software for HD7. HD7 is just another nice phone that does'nt give you the possibilty to give it your personal touch. This is for me a no go.
kept my hd2 for about 1 week after getting my hd7, then put the hd2 on craigslist. got 200.00 for it about 24 hours later.
Sorry, but as far as basic functionality, hd7 works better. Hasn't frozen once in 6 weeks, haven't had to delete text messages to prevent lag, it just works.
Now I have 2 more hd2's (wife and son), so I still have 2 phones to tweak occasionally (even the best custom ROM needs refreshing every month or so).
Lets look at this thread after the MS update that's coming, hopfully some issues will be addressed.
God I miss all the leaks we had with WM6, at least on xda-dev you could get newer builds leaked ahead of schedule.
Not missing my HD2 one bit (unless in the car)
So seem I am in minority. I still love my HD2 more then HD7.
HD7 did wow me .... until I tried to do anyting that a smartphone should do.
All from UK will know: "The computer says No."
I did not experience the problems many mentioned wit HD2. Never had problems with calling, in fact signal on HD7 is worse.
There was a hardware button to pickup the phone so even if the screen did not want to go on I could finish the conversation.
On HD7 I have installed a app called AP (news reader of some sort) and my proximity sensor was only switching the phone off. So after picking up the phone call I could not diconnect as screen was not turning back on. For me HD7 has as many little niggles as HD2 yet somehow it seems to do less stuff.
I keep it in hope that said january update and time for developers will fix a lot but I am now having my doubts. Copy paste is only thing in the update that is needed, nothing else addresses usability issues, at least nothing I see in the unofficial update list.

I'm the same with my HD2. I never experienced any of the troubles others complain of. My HD2 with WinMo has been the best phone I've ever owned. And has been the most exciting phone as well. I use a custom ROM and radio, but the OEM WinMo was never any trouble in the least...with the exception of crappily coded apps that would cause issues. Learning early on to be careful about what I installed has made my HD2 trouble free.
However, I love my HD7. I deem it to be a luxury car among smartphones. It is silky smooth, glamorous and works so well. The current apps are a different story, but WP7 and the HD7 work flawlessly in and of themselves. When MS does the coming updates, I expect it to be greatly, functionally, enhanced.
I have high esteem for my HD2 and would not part with it. I currently use Android on it, not because WinMo is bad but, because of the fun of possessing the latest, greatest Android phones. I owned a T-Mobile MyTouch 4G phone for a few days and hated the looks of the thing. Now that I have a flawless build of MT4G (courtesy of motoman234) on my HD2, I love it. Using it on my HD2 rather than the ugly MyTouch phone makes it so much more interesting and enjoyable. And I'm waiting for a fully functional build of the Nexus S Gingerbread. Now that's outstanding! My Windows Mobile phone getting Android updates long before the actual Android phones do...lol.
I love both the HD2 and HD7 equally, but in different ways. I love the "iPhone simplicity" of my HD7. A simplicity that has a special appeal that WP7 provides. Being such an excellent Zune, in that regard, I look at my HD7 as a more advanced Zune player than the dedicated Zunes out right now. But a Zune player indeed.

Wow, I though I was the only one thinking about this and glad to see I am not alone.. I switched a while back HD2 from a iphone (only edge with tmobile) and quickly ported Froyo 2.2 and absolutely loved (love) it.. I type on the go and "swiftkey" is my favorite. I had the chance to upgrade and got the HD7.
It's a nice problem to have but certain my Android HD2 does a lot that HD7 does not.. I don't talk to anyone about it becasue they wouldn't understand but I alternate a couple days HD2 then a couple days HD7.. I never really gave win 6.5 a chance and was not that impressed.. I must have a good build lot and don't have many of the freezing issues I have read about.. Google Nav and Copilot live are both way better than TeleNav and Google (free) and CoPilot $3.99 one time beats $10.00 bucks a month?? To me they are totally equal but in different ways..
I also use my HD2 with Android. I learnt that my WM 6.5 Copilot key worked with the Android Copilot. Also using my HD2 as a work phone.
Still once copilot or some other decent satnav appears on WP7 I will be using that for getting around and my HD2 purely for work calls.
My HD2 ran with not many probs, and the few it did have, was worth the OS compared to HD7, my HD7 now is a great paper weight, as that is all its good for,
I had to reboot it almost daily to get marketplace to load or when it locked up in mind searching, I care less about facebook, No tethering, no select all, have to switch screens to track multi email addresses, no right hand scroll on contacts, have to click letters,
Call dropping is the same as my HD2, its more of a network issue.
Live tiles, to me seem useless, as the HD2 showed you when u have a message, or email or missed call time, weather, all ur important apps and what ever is need on one screen with no scroling needed, it even notifies you with a light
So till WM wows the crap out of WM7 and makes it better then wm6.5 my HD7 might be on craigs list soon.
I had a chance to get the HD7 when it just came out, however I opted for the HD2 because I'm used to the following...
1) Having my text messages read out loud.
2) It acts like a regular USB device
3) Bought a slingbox app for it
4) Skype works well with it
5) I use the Remote Desktop Connection
I know the Mango update came out yesterday for the HD7, does anyone know if the ones I posted above will work on the HD7. I'm really sad that I lost my HD2, but Asurion doesn't have it anymore. Sigh. I guess it's time to upgrade my phone anyway since Windows Mobile is dead. Anyone wanna help convince me that it's for the best? Thank you in advance.
lol, i'm in the same situation but my phone fell in the toilet. thank god for snug plastic phone covers or phone really would have been ****ted. i'm trying to figure out if i still want to complete my claim or not. but i'm enjoying this miui droid rom too much on my hd2.
Oh no, I guess it doesn't support WiFi tethering either....sigh...
Hello xda community!
I recently broke the screen on my current android phone, and decided instead of replacing the screen, I would buy a new phone.
I have been researching various windows phones because I love their UI so much.
I found the HD7 on amazon for $240 refurbished, and I love the overall look and feel of the phone.
Before deciding to commit to my purchase, I came here to ask about the phone itself.
Is this phone worth it? Does it have a good dev community?
Or do you reccomend another windows phone?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
i think that its a very good phone.
before you buy it, just check the model number?HSPL????
if you cant install cotulla HSPL and then rom dont bother with it !
iam still waiting for HSPL... for mine, actually iam doing back to the HD2 as (looks) like all problems have been fixed,
cheers
i love the phone. it is my favorite purchase from 2011.
even if i could pick up the Titan or the Radar for the price i got my HD7, i would still go for the HD7.
size is right. Titan is too big, Radar is too small.
removable battery, unlike the Radar.
only three things i wished the HD7 had: physical keyboard, higher resolution screen (not yet, available, though) & newer [read: more power efficient] cpu.
also, i find the HD7 community to be larger then the other WP7 devices' communities.

Hello xda community!
I recently broke the screen on my current android phone, and decided instead of replacing the screen, I would buy a new phone.
I have been researching various windows phones because I love their UI so much.

i have a spare htc hd7, bought it from tmobile and its updated to mango 7.5 and is sim unlocked. im considering selling it because its a spare phone, if you are interested let me know. BTW its a great phone if you want to see if the OS is for you ^_^ tnx
Get the HD7. All of the big WP7 Development just happens to be centering around the HD7 resulting in dozens of custom roms to choose from.. The kick-stand is a very small feature, but it has proven to be extremely useful.. When showing friends a video it's much easier to be able to set the phone down and watch it like a mini-tv of sorts.. If it were up to me, all future phones would have the HD7 design, the only thing I'm willing to change are the internal components, (CPU, Memory, etc)
I suggest getting the HD7.
Hi guys i am also thinking of getting one i know how to check hspl and versions but with which one i will be to use custom roms, from what i've read so far 1. 2. 3. are flashable others 4. and 5. require downgrade if not halfbricked by now... i got really lost with all that info can anyone provide what should be a valid id of hd7 so i don't get a brick ... Thanks

I'm interested, though I won't have money to afford it for a bit, due to me being a full time college student.
I can keep in touch though.

U really should buy a HD7 to experience the Windows Phone UI. Anyway I have to tell you it is very troublesome to costum/define the ringtunes....

I don't care a whole lot about ringtones..and not sure why it would be hard to change.
Im planning to purchase this phone from Amazon for 200$ used, as soon as I acquire funds for it.
Not sure if I should spend the extra 40$ for a refurbished/new one.
Luckily this phone is T-Mobile native, and I can just pop my sim card in.
Plan on seeing me in this community soon!

I'm looking at getting a cheap HD7 as well.
I'm currently using my HD2 flashed with WP7 mango and have to say I'm quite enjoying the WP7 experience. It just works and I don't feel I have to spend lots of time tweaking like I did when I had Android on the HD2.
But there are a couple of things I'd like to confirm before I get one.
1) My main issue with the HD2 is battery, is the battery life on the HD7 likely to be better than the 10ish hours max I get on my HD? (A few short phone calls, hourly calendar/mail sync, bit of internet/market with wifi OFF but bluetooth on)
2) I will want to flash with a custom ROM so to unlock the sideloading of apps etc, from what I've read to do this easily I need to ensure the bootloader is 4.x or below. Is this correct?
Thanks
