[Q] OpenVPN on HTC Desire HD ? - Desire HD Themes and Apps

I need to get OpenVPN working on my new HTC Desire HD.
In the market, I find OpenVPN installer and settings from Friedrich Schäuffelhut.
But the install instructions only say 'you need root, tun/tap driver and busybox'.
My device is rooted, but where do I find the tun/tap driver for the DHD and what details do I need to observe for a working installation?
The standard OpenVPN configuration-file and and the certifiate are available.
Thanks for your help. I am new to Android, coming from WinMob 6.x (HTC TyTn 1 and 2, HD2).

search the DHD forums for a suitable tun.ko file (should be in DHD General Discussion)

I have a tutorial avaliable on the forum.. just use zip and do step 4.
& just use Apaches latest kernel it has the tun.ko included as the file needs to be compiled for every kernel.
Enjoy pm me if you have issues or post on my thread. N ill be on irc channel in a hour

.NET CF 3.5

I've looked all through the Kaiser forum but could not find the information I needed about the new .NET CF 3.5. I found some information in the general discussion section but did not find a solid answer. I found the cab installer which I installed. But I am unsure of how to uninstall the old .NET CF 2.0. I thought I read somewhere about going into registry and in HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > .NETCompactFramework if I made the 2.0.7045.00 value = 0 and then made the 3.5.7283.00 = 1 then that would disable .NET CF 2.0. That is not that case. Help? :]
not released yet
it doesnt work yet, i seen a dutty rom containing this but i highly doubt it's 3.5 since you cant even manually install this yet

There was a post in the ROM development forums with steps to do what you're asking.
Wish I could be of more help, but I can't seem to find it myself in a search...
Perhaps another member can find and link it for you (and put it on the wiki? )

You can manually install this, as the OP states, he found a cab and installed it. There are MANY threads on .NET CF 3.5 stating this too.
FYI, most chefs choose to cook in .NET CF 3.5 these days because of the performance gains.
*edit* Last I checked .NET CF 3.5 is RTM, so your statement of it being 'not released' is somewhat true. There is no shipped ROM with .NET CF 3.5 last I checked. But you can download from Microsoft and install it yourself.
I installed CF 3.5 on my TyTN II and couldn't run Live Search anymore. When I started Live Search, it would immediately throw an exception and exit. I had to uninstall CF 3.5 to get Live Search working again.
YMMV, but it something to consider. Oh, and I did, and still do, have CF 2.0 installed.
I think this is the Link _Alex_ is on about (found it on about page 10 of the Kaiser ROM Dev Forum, 20 post per page ).

Yup! I installed it and enabled it by changing the registry value as describe in the link posted above. No ill effects. Everything is so far working AND working faster - applications open faster, scroll faster.
i tried to install CF 3.5 which was downloaded from Microsoft but I got Installation error with "support info: 3" all the time
anyone have any clues?

.NetCF 3.5 works with all my existing .NetCF apps....
I have been trying to get .NetCF 3.5 in my ROM based on the official HTC 5.2.19212 ROM but had been having no luck. Unlike you if I installed the .NetCF 3.5 .CAB on my device whether it had .NetCF 2.0 installed on none all my existing .NetCF apps worked. I now have an OEM package of .NetCF 3.5 that I have included in my ROM (no .NetCF 2.0) and all my apps still work - LiveSearch, MobileCalculator etc

[USB-Tethering] Wired Tether for Root Users

Hi!
I've put an app together (99% based on "Wireless Tether for Root Users") which allows tethering via USB. Clients need to support RNDIS - works fine with Microsoft Windows (tested with XP and 7) and Linux (OpenSuSE 11.1).
Zinx Verituse has ported the essential parts of the hero-kernel and cyanogen has introduced this feature in his latest rom. So, thanks Zinx for the patches and cyanogen for publishing on github.
Patches can be found here:
http://github.com/cyanogen/cm-kernel/commit/9fd56ebdb6aba91e9b17ddea490ec9b39a819112
http://github.com/cyanogen/cm-kernel/commit/1a57339f015c3bfa097cf1d3e82f3485a6652483
I've decided to create this app to give all rom-cooks the ability to use this feature without modifying system-services and/or system-apks.
What a cook needs to do: Patch your kernel and recompile - all other stuff is done by the app.
Download:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
Features:
* Tethering makes use of the mobile-data-connection (HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS) or WiFi-connection
* Uses correct domainname-servers - provided by your carrier or which are configured on the wifi-access-point you connect (even if the network changes => switch from 3g to wifi and vice versa)
* Allows to change the local-network (network/subnetmask)
Supported ROMs:
* CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1+
* Android Dev Phone 1
=> my kernel-update needs to be applied: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/downloads/list?q=Kernel
* ?
Have fun!
Harry
THX a lot for this app
sudo dhclient usb0 and there you go
Good work.
Alot of the hero roms were finally able to get wireless tethering for root working on, well, hero roms. i installed, but cant get it working. What patch should i use, im using Sense Hero1.3.3
Hi Harry,
I'm visiting from the CDMA Hero forum, in the hopes that you might have some pointers on how to get this to work on the rooted CDMA Hero?
When I looked at this project over at code.google.com, it seems like this requires 1.6, where the CDMA hero is running 1.5. Will this fact doom us to ever run wired tether at this point?
From what I can tell on my Hero, everything seems to run fine until after I allow root access for the app. It then gives me a FC when accessing the system settings (as it's the one referenced in the FC.)
Can I apply your kernel safely to my ROM? Thanks in advance for your help!!
doesnt seem to work with macs

Did you try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443025?
I've been using the wired tether for the past week and have experienced some issues. Mainly, if the tether app isn't in the foreground, the process seems to randomly get restarted. This manifests as brief hiccups in internet access for the connected computer. Didn't experience this problem using WT4R (in bluetooth mode).
HW: Dream
App: wired-tether-1.0.apk
Kernel: adp 1.6 usbtether-r3
OS: Vista SP2
If I remember to, i'll post a log later tonight.
Could you please explain (or put in the first post) why use this while the current tether in Network Settings (CM4.2.x) works just fine?

If usb-tethering with cyanogenmod is working fine for you there is no reason why you should use this app. I've implemented just a few enhancements (using the correct domainname-servers, changing lan-config) - I don't know how cyanogen is doing this stuff (I don't use it).
The main-idea of this app was to bring usb-tethering to other roms (where system-settings can't be modified or roms which a pretty close to stock roms and heavily modified parts are not welcome). All you need for this is a modified kernel which can be easily done.

Ah, it hadn't occurred to me that other roms might not yet have tethering.
Thanks for your contribution then!
Very good! Thank you!
Anyone have the usb drivers for Windows XP?
Thanks in advance!
Has anyone used this successfully with Dwang 1.13? When Cyanogen came out with USB tethering it practically rendered mounting my sdcard and adb unusable. But this would be nice to use.
Sorry...Here's the link for it all.

hey dude thanks for this app. i have cyanogenmod 4.2.5 and i know usb tethering is enabled on there but i didnt know how to get it to work. this app made it easy and painless i just had to download htc sync for hero and it worked like a charm. love it..
Just wanted to jump in and say thanks. I'm using this in my newest build and it works like a charm. I couldn't remember the authors name so i came here to get it so I can give credit, so while I'm here I wanted to say good job, and thank you

This does work on dwangs 1.13 ... however it broke the cell network I was unable to get cell signal or network so it did me no good. I am working on way to fix this but I have not done dev for any phone in a long time, so it may take me a while to find out what is doing this.

and sow some seeds of inspiration for a dev out there who could fix this for us.
What i did
I took the SFM 3.0.2 Magic|Android 2.3.3|Sense 2.1 ROM used dsixda's Android Kitchen utility to transport and then adjusted few libs and binaries to get the phone started
Used Arco's 2.6.35.14 kernel and files from his nFinityGB v1.13 ROM
and added Robot font from following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316156
i moved system/app folder to cache/systemapp and symlinked to system due to less space in system partition

This is cool. I never expected Tattoo to run anything heavy like this.
Feeling proud of you, man! With tears in my eyes.

Waiting for news!!
Umm well, regarding eth0 and tiwlan0, they are just hardware access points for the required device. The Unix/Linux system often puts all devices as files in /dev/. So when it needs to call a particular device, it calls that file and output to that device is piped back into the file.
So eth0 refers to the Ethernet (Wired LAN) interface, while tiwlan0 is the WiFi (Wireless LAN). The problem with older kernels (ralle.gade) is that they list WiFi as standard wired LAN device. Newer kernels list them properly (Arco's kernel). So its just a matter of changing /dev/eth0 to /dev/tiwlan0 in the wpa_supplicant and other wifi config files and wifi will run as needed. i am saying this as far as what i know about configuring desktop linux.
and about camera and videorecorder, u can get the drivers from CM7 and merge with this. For FM, u could get get drivers from CM7 and replace the HTC FM app with the one from CodeAurora or MIUI.
I am interested to help. But it seems I have got some other priorities to attend to. I will be free after April 2012. Then I will brush up my C++ skills and see if I can help u all.
...
too bad, this rom would be perfect if bt, gps, wifi, camera would working on tattoo...

I dont think this is issues with old and new kernel, they all had access points as tiwlan0 (fyodor, ralle.gade and arco).
So far to my understanding it is device specific (see below).
Dexter seems to have tweaked the module and wpa_supplicant from ralle.gade's kernel to work with Froyo, i dont know what was changed. to get wifi working
EDIT: eth0 limitation is with hardware used in the device
Devices like: Wildfire, Wildfire S, Icon-G and Explorer -have their the access point setup as eth0 and they all have broadcom chip
while Tattoo, Magic and Hero -have tiwlan0 as the access point and they all seem to TI chip
in that case, lets ask dexter. he can help.

P.S.
i get this from the logcat: " wifi_load_driver end error 2" and from dmesg i get something like: "firmware_path unknown value"
I researched and foundout that the deire had similar problems, but they had a previously working dirver and just couldn't conect....
So that leaves me nowhere again... (sadface)
Few things that i have't mentioned earlier:
Following are the commands in wpa_supplicant script for tatfroyosense
Code:
/system/bin/insmod /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko
/system/bin/wlan_loader -f /system/etc/wifi/Fw1251r1c.bin -e /proc/calibration -i /system/etc/wifi/tiwlan.ini
/system/bin/wpa_supplicant.bin -Deth0 -ieth0 -c/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
As it is tiwlan0 interface in Arco's kernel, i have copied wlan_loader, wlan_cu, wpa_supplicant, wpa_cli binaries from nFinityGB rom along with /system/etc/dhcpcd folder and the wifi module. (These are already in the ROM attached)
As some of you might have noticed:
module wont load at boot
so i have tried to execute following commands from shell (they are in the init.rc script except insmod of module)
Code:
/system/bin/insmod /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko
/system/bin/wlan_loader -f /system/etc/firmware/Fw1251r1c.bin -e /proc/calibration -i /system/etc/wifi/tiwlan.ini
/system/bin/wpa_supplicant -Dwext -itiwlan0 -c/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
module loads fine but then wlan_loader give following error
Code:

Great news guys
I got wifi and bluetooth working
As i mentioned the history of the ROM in previous post,
It occured to me, may be i can start fresh from Sapphire ROM
So i went to the follwoing post and started with SFM 3.0.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025330
and with rough porting i could get wifi and bluetooth working and i bet gps would also work.
you know it was quick and dirty port (huge size and bad layout),
now we can do proper port with relayout and resizing the framework and would be better ROM
Cool... Keep up the hard work. Once u finish the port, we can get someone to optimise it.
Have you updated the download link? Iwould like to have a look to graphics to know if I can do anything about them.
Edit: I can see you don't. But I'm going to start trying to resize some graphics as a practice for future.
2nd post updated with new rom port
some of the applications are not working and poor layout.
Alternative launcher like adw working fine

sense zero on tattoo
Now that i could port (transport) GB sense, i wanted to have a crack at sense zero (it was to decide which one would be best carry on)
so I did try port Hintay Zero 0.14 (Sense 3.5 Android 2.3.5)
and i could get it booted on Tattoo,
but have to set lcd density to 100, so that you can see launcher work.
But most of other things look decent if it is set to 120.
And you can see that layout and size are bad.
but i have to say it takes lot of memory and gets very slow.
framework moved to cache to make space in system.
takes 10 mins on first boot

Yes, its a chinese forum. Gave a try using BabelFish and Google Translate, but it is very messy.

F**k translators. I preferred to read no more.

That's what I can understand using translators: they've tried it, and like it. They thik is smooth and powerfull, but ram memory is low. Someone is asking about Sense 3.0, but the tread is not updated, so they only tried SenseonFire (first port). Simply (as I said), they're waiting.

[Q] Kernel with Fuse Support for rooted Motorola Droid

I am searching for a way to use truecrypt on my Milestone (Droid). There are some efforts making it available by using the app Cryptonite
But you need to have a kernel which supports FUSE.
I currently run 2nd-boot-kernel and CM7.2.4f.
But it seems that it has no fuse-support. At least
Code:
cat /proc/filesystems/
ls /system/lib/modules/
does not list FUSE.
I can not post to the dev-forum, so i could ask there. Hopefully someone here can help me.
If I could build my own kernel, i would do it. At the moment I only have Windows 7 and Android SDK installed.
And I don't know the steps and which things are important.
greetings

[Q] CIFS support? cifs.ko module?

Hey all,
I'd love to have CIFS capability on my HTC One M7. I'm currently running Android Revolution HD Google Play Edition, 6.6 or something like that I think, don't remember exactly. Kernel version is 3.4.10 (I think that's what's really relevant here anyway)
Does anyone know where I can get a CIFS module to compile into the kernel or into a .ko to load in? Or do .ko's require any special compiling or prep to work? I assume I don't have it, since in CifsManager and the like I get a no such device error yet ES File Explorer works fine for getting to the target SMB IP. One time I had to make a change to my Debian laptop's kernel and re-compile, so maybe I can figure it out if I have a cifs module to compile. But I'm still a noob at this, so any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Hi all, if your goal is simply to play music and video from your NAS to your android device, you can use Kodi (xbmc) that can access cifs path directly!
