Does anyone know how to make the lower buttons, back, menu, search, and home buttons not light up when I receive a message our missed call while using the NoLED app?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't believe there is that option within the NoLED app. The BLN has to be built into the Kernel I believe.... I'm sure there will soon enough be a supporting Kernel for this as there is much support for the Galaxy series phones and this sort of thing. As I am not a dev I have no idea how easy/hard it would be but I cant wait
The op was trying to turn the lights off not on. As far as I know it just needs to be updated for gingerbread/ns so that the bottom lights don't turn on. You can follow the original app thread here. It looks like the dev won't be working on it til after the holidays.

As in the camera flash? Well if your phone is laying on it, that probably doesn't work too well
Plus that LED is bright. Not sure what it's power requirements are compared to using NoLED.

That's what Back Light Notification (BLN) is and it needs a supporting kernel to be ported over.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread just to ask a question, but for whatever reason, NoLED doesn't work for me. I'm on Android 2.3.1 running stock (not LP or AWD). I've read the FAQ and I believe I have everything set up correctly. I call myself and miss it and I've emailed myself (different accounts) to test it, but I don't get anything on my black screen.

Yes to both. I have the widget set to "on," restarted my phone, and before, made sure all the settings were correct.
Still, nothing shows up after sending myself emails and giving myself calls (didnt' pick up, of course).
Doesn't seem to work; I'm running 2.3.1 with stock launcher.
Just read the FAQ. It's the "No Lock" app that's preventing NoLED from functioning. That's a shame because sometimes when I'm at home, I dislike having to swipe or enter my pattern key to unlock the phone.
NoLED works fine now. Thanks y'all.

Trillian for Android beta. It's really nice so far, been using it for a few days.
Most important thing to me is push notifications. While it doesn't indicate that it has push notifications, it most certainly does. In the settings make sure you check Push Email notifications and battery saving mode (this is how I have it configured). Don't worry, if you have Froyo you won't get any e-mails, it'll just push. I've tested it from another AIM app. On the home screen with the screen off I get IM's instantly every time I've tried it, with no e-mails. This is the first developer app I've personally seem that uses push.
It doesn't seem to poll or use the battery any. I've run it every day with AIM and Facebook chat and my spare parts doesn't show it using the battery and neither does my standard battery info section.
Seems pretty awesome so far. I haven't shut it off yet. Hopefully everyone else's experience is the same.
I've used trillian on my desktop for years, and I've had the beta on my since I got it back in August. The only gripe I have is that if you leave MSN running on your computer, and you sign in on Trillian from your phone, it wipes your display picture and your display theme.
** edit - n/m it loaded fine since I have Cognition/Rooted etc.
Looks awesome - have to see how the battery life is on the phone with it loaded.

Yes, it appears to be using C2DM. I wasn't aware Beejive was using it though, but that's good. More developers need to get on board. Ideally the IM app should NEVER poll or communicate to the server in any way. Run it in the background but just so it opens quicker. Use Push to receive messages.
man thats the one thing I miss about my iphone was real push notifications.
Is Beejive any good compared to this? I currently use Meebo, but would love to try another messenger that supports push in 2.2

It's going to drain your battery having something polling for new messages if you aren't on Android 2.2 and have push enabled.

bln are built into all of our kernels these days
I've used NoLed since I purchased my phone in Sept with no problem. In fact, the wife and I both use it. Uninstall and reinstall and see if that works. Also, you should add the NoLed widget to your home screen and then tap it, colored dots should appear inside the box. At that point it's activated. If you reboot your phone I believe it does it for you.

NoLED was a great option prior to the popularity of "BackLight Notification" or BLN.
If you have a compatible kernel, I think it's a better way to go. It doesn't differentiate between different "kinds" of messages like NoLED does, but it's cleaner, and doesn't use the LED screen at all, potentially saving battery and protecting your screen from potential burnin/out.

I never could get that app to work right on the Fasc. It used to be the bees knees, till people started realizing that the lights never turn off until the message has been cleared. In other words, the 10 sec, 15, 30 second versions all stay on till the notification is cleared, despite supposedly having a timer. Newer versions of the BLN app have come and gone, yet I have heard nothing positive about them in the Fasc forum.

BLN does not have a timer unless it is set on blink mode, and there are no working kernels with BLN 2.3, which is required for blinking for the Fascinate. The "timer" you are likely referring to is probably for the timeout for the buttons when the screen is on. Since DJ05/DL09, the buttons stay lit as long as the screen is on.
To control the blinking rate, use "blinky" from market
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Blinky 2.3 (download zip from thread, flash in Clockwork) works on the Fascinate. Blinky 2.4 (Market version, no flashing) works to turn BLN on/off, but doesn't actualy blink stuff.
Try sms popup, works like the handcent pop up, but works for the stock messaging app which is what i use

Really? Do you recall the release of BLN? Now it appears the developer has added internal settings. However, the releases in October-November could be downloaded via XDA and came in .zip format with an option in increments of 5-10 seconds up to 30 seconds. Despite the option, the light never turned off until the notification was cleared, even with a supportive kernel, resulting in rapid battery drain in my case. This was a turn off for me and I have not reviewed the product since. Now it appears that the lights blink instead of constantly glowing. I will have to check out the newer version.
didn't know of these apps til i read this thread. thanx everyone.
Hi Everyone!
I'm wondering whether there's an alternative to noLED? Unfortunately I don't have an AMOLED Screen so the battery will drain way too fast and it doesn't look particularly good. Still, I like how noLED supports basically all applications.
I would like to have timed reminder for certain chat apps (Kakao Talk) and maybe the EMail Client K-9. This should be a vibration or sound-altert.
I have been looking around but I can't really find an application that does exactly that. It seems like noLED could do it as well but it will also use the Screen?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I hope for your input.
Thanks!
Well if you use a kernel that supports bln, youu get the lights for the back home tc buttons to light up or flash, saving battery. Try netarchy kernel for example.

I've been crazy after going from my HTC Desire with LED notification to the Nexus S with no LED notfication. Have been using NOled, but don't like it.
Is there any ROM that support that "lights for the back home tc buttons to light up or flash" ?
As stone mentioned, you would just have to check if your kernel, or the kernel packaged in whichever rom supports BLN. For nexus s 4G, netarchy's is the only one I know of.
Get Tasker. If you have basic programming experiance, or can at least figure out stuff, you can make all kinds of stuff with it.
I made something that repeats the notification sound every 10 seconds until the screen is woken. You can make it for specific notifications. I have one for google voice, and gmail.

I thought it would be nice for both users and developers what to expect from next update to fix or be fixed. I'm gonna give a kick start to known bugs, so that we can be aware of the faults of 4.2. Don't shoot the things you didn't like here since it is nothing to do with this "bug" thread. Here I go..
1. I keep telling myself this should not be a bug since it is so obvious but there is no reason for it to be implemented that way. Which is the hour segment of lock screen time being bold and the other half is normal font.. Maybe there is a reason for this hopefully..
2. Pull down the notification bar from top, when it is down, pull down from the top most again. Notification center will continue going down and out of the screen. It applies for both quick settings and notification center.. Major bug! - 1 to googles test engineers.
Now you can add your own test cases and bugs and maybe we have great devs to sort them out and develop great custom roms..
I don't think either is a bug ,more or less design desicions. I actually like both things you mentioned

I can understand the first one but you clearly didn't understand the second. This is a major bug because a layout goes out of screen. They seem to not lock pulling down from the top most of the screen when it is already pulled down.. Result; notification center goes out of the screen..

SuperSU has granted superuser permission :/system/bin/id

Can't log into gmail with another account in chrome.
I used to log into another account in chrome that I haven't bothered linking. I went to gmail in chrome (not requesting desktop version) and I was already logged into my primary account. It's never done that before. I thought no big deal and signed out. Now gmail continually loops on the address constantly refreshing but the site never actually comes up.
And not a bug, but I'm annoyed Nexus 7 didn't get miracast. Can't imagine the reason for that. And the what's new page isn't clear that it is only nexus 4. http://www.android.com/whatsnew/
Yes it does say "Share what’s on your phone on the big screen." but the rest of the text and the page makes it seem like these are 4.2 features and not exclusive to N4. I'm hoping custom roms will enable miracast.
Also, not a bug but a feature lost, the camera no longer has the funny faces (big nose, small eyes etc). ya I know a dorky feature but I don't see why it was removed. I know the nexus 7 didn't have the camera enabled by default but we have the new camera app so I assume other devices lost those as well.

Is there a way to have the screen turn on when I get a notification? More specifically an email. I did notice in the Roms section there are tweaks to have SMS screen on.
There are apps in the play store that will allow this but they all require the accessibility settings to be turned on which affects how the lock screen works so looking for a way to do this without using an app.
Thanks

You'll either need a different rom or an app, it might be added by an HTC update at some point but I haven't read anything about it. I think HTC thought the notification light was good enough...

Yes I've put Trickdroid on it and allows a lot of customization which is great. I too came from iOS as that was just getting a bit dull and samey!! However I do miss how good it was at the notifications...
I do like this HTC One phone though...:good:
