Trillian beta for Android w/Push - Captivate Themes and Apps

http://www.trillian.im/learn/tour-android.html
Trillian for Android beta. It's really nice so far, been using it for a few days.
Most important thing to me is push notifications. While it doesn't indicate that it has push notifications, it most certainly does. In the settings make sure you check Push Email notifications and battery saving mode (this is how I have it configured). Don't worry, if you have Froyo you won't get any e-mails, it'll just push. I've tested it from another AIM app. On the home screen with the screen off I get IM's instantly every time I've tried it, with no e-mails. This is the first developer app I've personally seem that uses push.
It doesn't seem to poll or use the battery any. I've run it every day with AIM and Facebook chat and my spare parts doesn't show it using the battery and neither does my standard battery info section.
Seems pretty awesome so far. I haven't shut it off yet. Hopefully everyone else's experience is the same.

I've used trillian on my desktop for years, and I've had the beta on my since I got it back in August. The only gripe I have is that if you leave MSN running on your computer, and you sign in on Trillian from your phone, it wipes your display picture and your display theme.

** edit - n/m it loaded fine since I have Cognition/Rooted etc.
Looks awesome - have to see how the battery life is on the phone with it loaded.

Would you mind clarifying?
If I am using Froyo. Is push email not currently functional or you do not use the option? I would like to use this for email purposes.

I believe if you choose push email and have froyo you will just get push notifications when you get a message, you won't actually get an email.

is this using C2DM to push in 2.2 like Beejive is?

Yes, it appears to be using C2DM. I wasn't aware Beejive was using it though, but that's good. More developers need to get on board. Ideally the IM app should NEVER poll or communicate to the server in any way. Run it in the background but just so it opens quicker. Use Push to receive messages.

man thats the one thing I miss about my iphone was real push notifications.
Is Beejive any good compared to this? I currently use Meebo, but would love to try another messenger that supports push in 2.2

i'm using trillian, with legend 2.2. is it c2dm really works? because it's still appear in the running app. which mean still running in the background (also app still appear in the notification bar). i was thinking, if c2dm works well, this app shoud be not appear in the running app, right? should i must kill this app, to make c2dm works? (beside app not appear in the notification bar). please help me

No. It works. The icon in the notification bar is to remind you it's running and for easy access to the app. Don't mess with anything.

I wasted money on buying this app, just figured out, it was this draining my battery. about 6% an hour vs 1% with it off.

It's going to drain your battery having something polling for new messages if you aren't on Android 2.2 and have push enabled.

I was on 2.2 and now on 2.3, still drains regardless, push or not whatever...

NoLED and menu buttons

Does anyone know how to make the lower buttons, back, menu, search, and home buttons not light up when I receive a message our missed call while using the NoLED app?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't believe there is that option within the NoLED app. The BLN has to be built into the Kernel I believe.... I'm sure there will soon enough be a supporting Kernel for this as there is much support for the Galaxy series phones and this sort of thing. As I am not a dev I have no idea how easy/hard it would be but I cant wait
The op was trying to turn the lights off not on. As far as I know it just needs to be updated for gingerbread/ns so that the bottom lights don't turn on. You can follow the original app thread here. It looks like the dev won't be working on it til after the holidays.

As in the camera flash? Well if your phone is laying on it, that probably doesn't work too well
Plus that LED is bright. Not sure what it's power requirements are compared to using NoLED.

That's what Back Light Notification (BLN) is and it needs a supporting kernel to be ported over.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread just to ask a question, but for whatever reason, NoLED doesn't work for me. I'm on Android 2.3.1 running stock (not LP or AWD). I've read the FAQ and I believe I have everything set up correctly. I call myself and miss it and I've emailed myself (different accounts) to test it, but I don't get anything on my black screen.

I honestly doubt its the app. Blacks on SAMOLED consume nearly 0 power.

Yes to both. I have the widget set to "on," restarted my phone, and before, made sure all the settings were correct.
Still, nothing shows up after sending myself emails and giving myself calls (didnt' pick up, of course).
Doesn't seem to work; I'm running 2.3.1 with stock launcher.
Just read the FAQ. It's the "No Lock" app that's preventing NoLED from functioning. That's a shame because sometimes when I'm at home, I dislike having to swipe or enter my pattern key to unlock the phone.
NoLED works fine now. Thanks y'all.

IM+ question and battery life

I have borrowed an HD7 from a friend running the absolute latest Mango beta I believe - beta 2 I think.
Anyway, I want to be always online with Google Talk ala Android. I see it has options for push notifications and running under lock screen. I dont really get it. I want the best battery life I can get, but I want notifications as quickly as possible when someone sends me a message. I have the live tile pinned to my home screen too, but it seems to take a little while to get a notification.
Can anyone help a bit with this stuff please.
If you are using Mango beta2. Then under Messages you will find threads. From there you can be online with Windows Live Messenger and it is the best. Instant notifications and toast.

Push notifications are dependant on IM+ sending them to Microsoft in a timely manner, and for Microsoft to send them to your phone in a timely manner.
This is not something you can control unfortunately. Sometimes they get to your phone instantly, sometimes they don't. Despite it being called 'push' notifications, its not always on and always waiting for notifications. That would eat up too much battery life. Best thing to do would be to wait for Mango to finally come out, and for IM+ to be updated to support true background multitasking so that it can send you more instant notifications.

Running under lockscreen would only continue to drain the battery as if you phone was on and actively pulling/sending data. So don't expect your phone to last too long with it on.
That being said, you should definitely see an improvement in notification response time since the app is open and actively pinging the server for new messages. Best case it should notify you as quickly as it can download the latest IM from whoever talks to you.
And then there is the fact that if you leave it on under lockscreen, in order for that to operate properly, you need to open the app every time right before you put the phone into standby. Otherwise, the app closes/freezes when you do anything else with the phone. Or you can simply do nothing with you phone and leave IM+ open at all times... but then it wouldn't be much of a phone. XD

[Q] Email screen on mod

Is there a way to have the screen turn on when I get a notification? More specifically an email. I did notice in the Roms section there are tweaks to have SMS screen on.
There are apps in the play store that will allow this but they all require the accessibility settings to be turned on which affects how the lock screen works so looking for a way to do this without using an app.
Thanks

You'll either need a different rom or an app, it might be added by an HTC update at some point but I haven't read anything about it. I think HTC thought the notification light was good enough...
I use sms popup for texts. There is an app called notify me in the play store, that if you purchase the pro version you can set up different apps to have the screen turn on. The free version only allows sms.

Yes I've put Trickdroid on it and allows a lot of customization which is great. I too came from iOS as that was just getting a bit dull and samey!! However I do miss how good it was at the notifications...

[APP] Gear Getter - based off Pebble Notifier - v1.2 <No More Development>

UPDATED - v1.2 removes the double messages from some apps, fixes another bug.
I wanted a way to get other notifications to the Gear without having to run another client app on the Gear.
There is another project (ATN) that initially used the Email notification to do this. I liked this approach because it was simple, used the gear manager as the delivery mechanism, and the Email notification app on the gear which is robust enough to handle long notifications.
I reached out to Dattas Moonchaser, who wrote the popular Pebble Notifier to see if I could use his app as my base. He obliged so here it is....
Install this on your phone, there is nothing to install on the Gear. The only thing you need to know is to go into Accessibility settings and give Gear Getter permissions (it has a big RED link for this when you launch the app). Also make sure you have Email notification checked in the Gear Manager.
Here are some better instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47449016&postcount=119
Once you enable Accessibility you are able to setup your apps you want to receive notifications from. Couple cool things..
- There is the ability to setup filters
- Ability to setup quiet times
- There is tasker integration (I haven't messed with this)
- This reads the data from the expanded view so you should get pretty robust notifcations
- Easy on the battery
If you feel the need to donate, please do it from the app, and it will go to Dattas who would appreciate it.

Quick question..
I did not install anything yet but I wanted to understand this. Do we install on both the gear and the phone ?
Where does it pull information from ?
I never used the app before, I just wanted some more info before I experiment with it.
And does it require 4.3 ?
Thanks

You only install it on the phone, there is nothing to install on the gear. It uses the built in Email notification on the gear to display the notifications.
You tell it which apps you want to receive notifications from on your gear.
This doesn't require 4.3, but the Gear Manager does (which this uses).

This send notifications from your phone (for the applications you select) to the gear, using the Email notification on the gear to display them.
Thanks, checking it out. I want to see if I can get Instagram notifications. I will report back.
So far so good! Gmail is sending full subject and body of emails! However, when you click "Show On Device" it launches the stock email client instead of gmail. It sounds like that's because it uses the email notification methods.

Great! The logic for getting the notification details is pretty battle tested so I would expect the content it sends to the gear to be pretty good and mostly match what you would see in an expanded notification on your phone.
The Show On Device I don't think I will get to be able to actually work to open the app on the phone....

Ok, this does not work for me. Although it is probably because I running an S4 on 4.2 so far. Waiting for the update to be online.
I'll have to wait for the update to get me to 4.3 for the gear manager to work properly. I have limited functionality still
UPDATE : Well, email does not work, only get recipients name showing, but on the other hand, texting works (using sms pro)
But everything displays double, I mean I see the text and who is from and then under s separator I see it again with just a bit smaller fonts. Don't know why, maybe a setting I need to play with ?
I am glad at least for the texts for now.

[Q] New Galaxy Gear

Just bought a Galaxy Gear yesterday...I would be very happy with it except no matter how hard I try, I cannot get the notifications to work on a consistent basis. I am ready to bounce it against the wall. I can turn the notifications off and on again in Gear Manager and it will notify me but then not again. Can any one offer any suggestions? I am up to date; the Gear is v. V700XXUAMK7 and the software on the Galaxy Note 2 is JDQ39.V700XXUAMK7 and has 4.3 Jelly Bean.
My notifications where very inconsistent until I figured out that I needed to use a modified version of the stock messaging app to get it to work correctly.
The modified version has a check box you can set to never turn the screen on when a message comes in and that version works perfectly. As long as my Note 3 screen is off when a message arrives using that version of the stock messaging app I get perfect notifications 100% of the time.
I have never been able to get the notifications to work right with any other messaging app (IE Handcent) so I stick with that setup and all is well.

Don't fret. I spent three days trying to figure that out and took two watches back to Bestbuy. Even the Bestbuy people could not figure out what I was not getting my notifications aftwr I spent 2 hours in the store with them trying to figure it out. After my third watch and one day being on the forums someine happened to mention that your watch will not receive messages unless the phone screen is off . . . . LIKE DUHH!!!!
I had to change settings in handcent for my notifications to get sent to gear
