Setting a group that will ring even on silent? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to set it so where say my wife and my dad can break through the silence mode?
My old POS Nokia could do this through setting up groups and I didn't know if this was possible.
Running leaked 2.2 Froyo, no custom ROM just leaked 2.2

Sounds like another job for Tasker.

Ascending Ringtone...?

Is there an app that can make the ringtone volume ascending...?
Thx in advance.
you could probably use a wave editor like audacity to edit your ringtone, then use a fade in effect that would slowly raise the volume to max level
Good idea. Is there an app which will do it automatically on the G1...?
You can check any of the ringtone makers on the market, but I doubt they can do that so you would have to do it for each ringtone.
we need a thread where everyone posts awesome ringtones. I'm getting burnt out on the default ones.

Thanks for the idea... Still think this feature is pretty basic by today's standard and should have been included in Android by now...
Cheers and Happy New Year!
I have never seen this feature stock on anything, nore would I want or use it.

My old samsung phone had it, and I liked it. The phone would start by vibrating then start ringing softly and get progressivly louder. I didn't need to keep changing volume settings if the room was getting louder or softer. That was one of the first things I looked for on my phone when I got it.
I remember an application that changed the ring volume based on ambiant noise, but that's not what you were asking about but could help you in your last situation.

It's been a standard feature of just about every Nokia made in the last 10 years!
Never owned a nokia so....
Motorola Cliq has that option BTW so it can be done. May be someone can port it to G1. I've never used it but sounds like a good option to have.
Cliq is on 1.6, correct...? So it's a custom feature by Moto...?
Is it included in 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.1...?
Cliq is 1.5, I don't think it's even going to get upgraded to any other versions... yeah Motorola sucks.
You can use Ascending Ringtone App that collected on this package:edited...
MOD Edit: No linking to warez. First and final warning
There's an app in the market called 'Ascending Ringtone' for $.99 that claims to do what you're asking.
@mahdian please remove your post, we do not support warez here.

flashlight alerts froyo

This is a very cool app that could even be considered an accessability option, it uses the flash to alert for calls & msgs I used it with 2.1 and it even worked on some 2.2 roms also, I dunno maybe his girl won't put up with his devvin but he replied to my email saying he didn't have time to fix it but he will post the code somewhere so somebody else can pick it up... both versions were paid apps (both I bought)
If he sends me a link ill post it...
If somebody happens to fix it let me know ;-)
Bhang
kinda a bump but not really
I haven't heard from the dev and didn't find anything with a quick google, I'm suprised there aren't more deaf/hearing impared people, people working in loud enviroments, etc
It also alerts you to calls from a distance even when you can't hear the ringtone.
Maybe nobody is intrested enough, it worked on a few nightlys but hasent worked for a while now, maybe its an easy fix, but for me its an almost impossible.
Doesn't the powers that oversee android want to add as many accessibility features as possible?

[Q] [q]Volume too Less! ! & suggestion

hey guys, got hold of my cappy a couple of weeks back....
running on JH7 and rooted.....i use one click sideload wonder machine.....no lag fir anythng applied.....using launcher pro....unlocked
all at&t bloatware removed
1.) i find the volume too less.....sitting in a restaurant i missed most of my calls....only on vibrations am i 'sometimes' able to take the call----is there perhaps some kind of a mod to increase it...maybe some settings ( all my settings are maxed out)......can u suggest me some ringtones which are 'audible'??
ive started usin an app called volume master---i maxed out everything in that too...still too less
2.) my notifications sound always gets reduced to 25% no matter what i do...i max it out....then after some time i discover its again 25%....its barely audible!!! whats wrong with that
3.)my facebook sync doesnt sync any contacts...keeps on showing error....i do get updates...activites is working fine.....but sync isnt....ive set the sync to sync every 1 hour....
4.) any idea when the offical froyo will be released?? i don wanna try out cognition....and will i loose my unlock code after froyo??i live in asia...no at&t!!
suggestion--can we create a Questions thread for simple everyday ques...i feel weird to make a whole new thread for some silly ques that can be simply answered!! just suggesting
30 views and surprisingly no views....whats up pple??
I am not sure why you are having those specific problems. Most of the people are saying to copy your unlock code down somewhere before you flash, but that once its unlocked you are safe. I have problems with cognition roms making my volume quiter than I9000 roms, but I have less bugs with cognition roms than I9000 roms. *shrugs* hope this helps...

No one knows when the official Froyo update will appear.

[Q] DTMF tone length

I apologize if this has been discussed/answered elsewhere. A search didn't bring up anything. If it has, please link me to the appropriate thread. Thanks!
I'm currently using Simply Stunning 5.4, which is Android 2.3.4 and based on CM7. For some reason, the custom phone settings menu has removed the option to adjust the DTMF tone length between Normal and Long. CM (and possibly Gingerbread in general--not sure) defaults to short tone length, which my Verizon voicemail inbox refuses to recognize for my password. It acts as though I haven't pushed any buttons, even though I can hear the quick tones. When I back up and flash a stock 2.2.2 ROM, which has the option in there, and I change it to Long tones, I can access my voicemail no problem. But that's a hassle just to check voicemail. I love Simply Stunning and Gingerbread! There HAS to be another way to access this setting...right?
It seems like it should be as simple as a line of code somewhere with =1, 2 or 3, and if I could just change that number to 3 for Long or whatever, things would be great.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
After a bit of research it looks like a little over a month ago, in CM nightly 15, an edit was made to android_frameworks_base to force phones to always use short DTMF tones. My question is, is there a way I can edit android_frameworks_base (if that's even a file somewhere or section in a file) to undo this and use long tones? Or, can I install a different version of android_frameworks_base and keep the rest of the ROM? That seems like a big ol' conflict that wouldn't work, but what do I know?
The workaround I'm using now is nandroid backup, load a stock FRG83G ROM, change the tones to long, check my messages, reboot into recovery, restore the nandroid backup. What a hassle to do this every day though! There HAS to be an easier way, aside from the obvious "Find a ROM that's not built on CM." I'm definitely getting closer to doing that, but it's also fun to solve things like this. Anyone?

[Q] i9000 sounds profiles

Is there any chance of getting sound profiles on the galaxy s?
I mean like a lot of other phones have, eg, a profile for work, general, outdoor, silent, etc.
I noticed that cyanogenmod 7 had this feature, but I just wanted to know is there any other way to get this feature?
Or is there any way to get it running from cyanogenmod on another rom (stock or custom) ?
Thanks
