Titanium Backup - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All my apps that were on the SD card had their links broken even though the SD card was still fine.
So I wiped my install and started resetting things. One of my first steps was to reinstall Titanium Backup but my app list doesn't rebuild. If I install an app from the market, TB then connects that app to the backup history. I can restore data or old backups thereafter.
Anyone know how I can get TB to build my app list without having to manually install from the market?
Yes, I own the pro version.

I've been using Titanium Backup pro for 3 months and haven't met such problem... do a disk error check for your SD card Fat32 partition in windows, see if it finds any problem.
Did you backup those apps using another version of Titanium Backup? I wonder if there was compatibility problem across older and newer Titanium Backup versions.

[Q] Will I be able to back up saved games before flashing a ROM or wiping my device?

Subject says it all. I'm looking at flashing Cognition but I'm hesitant if I will lose all saved games. I have titanium backup but have only used it to removed at&t bloatware. Can I use that to backup saves? And if so.. how?

I use titanium backup and it has always restored my Angry Birds' saved games... I was three star-ing everything so I wasn't about to flash and lose it all either HAHA. I say use TiBu and you should be fine, though there are anomalies and I am not responsible for any lost saved games haha
Is there a "how-to" for titanium backup?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
TiBu -> Menu -> Batch -> Backup all user apps
Flash ODIN
Flash new rom (you can click wipe data, it doesnt delete your sd card stuff, in fact, i recommend it)
Install TiBu (if your rom doesn't have it included)
TiBu -> Menu -> Batch -> Restore all apps with data
Click install, install, install. Done.
If you're really anal (which i was for a while), put in an external sd card and copy the titaniumbackup folder from your root folder to the external sd card and then take it out. lol
Ah sweet. So if I'm understanding those steps... the internal sd card is not treated like internal ROM storage that is wiped when you flash your phone?

No, but if you did, for instance, an Odin 3 one click back to stock, and clicked the master clear button, or if you do a factory reset, etc., that would wipe the internal SD card. So, if your ocd like me, connect to your pc and mount the SD card, and transfer everything on it to the PC hard disk. Then repeat that whenever you're going to flash. Just in case, you know.
Backup all user apps or backup all user apps + system data?

Do all backup stuff. You can later select what to restore. You can go in and just restore browser favorites if you want.

[Q] recover apps on sd card after custom rom install

Can I recover apps that were installed on sd card after installing a new rom? Or at the least can I clean up that memory since its not being used anymore?
I used titanium backup to backup my apps and restore them once ive installed my custom rom
yeah been using titanium, no hassel at all
Once you install the custom rom reinstall titanium backup, search for previous backup folder, then restore your apps. This only works if you used titanium to backup up everything before you installed the custom rom.

what's the point of "Move to CD card". I did this for a game I have thinking that I'd still have the app data after I flashed a new rom. But after I flashed a new rom, that app wasn't anywhere to be found.

The point is it frees up internal storage on the phone, therefore you can install more programs.
It was never intended to be a backup/recovery tool.

Nand backup size/delete

Hi,
I after a few hours of failure I flashed my first ROM, Firefly 3, yesterday. I did a nand backup beforehand, but I didn't use it to restore because I wasn't sure how it worked, so I used Titanium to restore my apps. Now my built in memory (not internal sd) for apps is full whereas before flashing I had about a third left. How much space does a nand backup take up and can I delete it?
Edit: I looked in settings and it says I have about a gigabyte free, yet when I try installing an app from Amazon it says it can't be installed and to try clearing space. Any ideas?

The nandroid backups basically take a snapshot of the current state of your phone. When you restore a nandroid backup it restores the phone to the state that it was in before, so in your case it would be like you didn't flash firefly. These backups don't take up too much space and they shouldn't be hindering you from installing apps. I am not sure why you are having this problem, did you restore the system data when you used Titanium Backup or just the apps+data?
Thank you for the explanation.
I only did apps and data. Some install some dont its very strange. Also I shouldn't have had to install them, not sure why they weren't backed up and restored with Titanium backup.
I am also having other problems. When I boot swype force close. Some apparently force close when I open them and lots of them including some that force closed are now gone from my drawer. I think fixing permissions may have been the cause, I'm not sure it said it should fix force closes.

[Q] Trouble with "My backup pro"

I would like to restore my applications off of some backup files created by my backup pro, my issue is that I cannot restore them because it says that SD is either full or to disconnect from PC and make sure that the SD is mounted correctly.
If anyone has any alternate methods of restoring APK and data files or help they can provide that will be greatly appreciated. I will be searching the forums until then.
I installed .APK files but would like to restore all data as well, I copied all files from phone to PC can I just drag and drop data and all should be good?
I have SGS Captivate rooted with Corn Kernel v7.06

You might have to suck it up and buy tibu add well. I had bought system tuner pro (which is good) after getting on here I realized that I should get tibu.

That means there is a problem with your sd card. The error message isn't very detailed, but that's what it is, short of your sd card being full.
The program needs cache space to unzip the backup and such.
I have used my backup pro over tibu and wouldn't change that. My backup pro freezes apps, backs up apks and data either separately or in one shot and also backs up favs,mms/sms, calendar, etc....
The only thing I use tibu for is to remove system apps.

Thanks for all of your responses, much appreciated. If that is the case "there is a problem with your sd card" then how am I to test that theory? like how can I figure out if there is something wrong with my SD and by SD you mean my external SD??

TiBu will do that too. Plus wifi connections, bt pairings, move apps to sd, or vice versa. And do it quicker than My Backup.

Both Titanium Backup and My Backup have free versions (as do many apps). Try the free versions first before jumping in with the paid version. I don't have problems with My Backup (I use the Root version).

True, titanium does offer a free version. However in order to unlock its true power, you need the paid version. My Backup Root is pretty good. I used to use it before i bought TiBu. Buy TiBu is,imo, the better of the two.

Sms backup restore help

I have tried to restore my backed up sms I haven't had success using different apps. Is it impossible? I just upgraded to kit kat from being on jb. The messages were backed up in jb. Will it be possible to restore them into a kitkat rom? Or stock kiitkat?

Different apps store the backup in different formats, so you can't use one app to make a back up and another app to restore it. You have to restore with the same app you used to back up. (Unfortunately, some apps could use the external SD card in 4.3, but can't in 4.4, so you have to copy the backup folder from the external card to the "internal card" to restore. That can get tricky using the phone itself, so connect the phone to a computer and copy the folder from external [Card] to internal [Phone].)
The app I used can read it but won't restore them. Unfortunately I didn't use titanium backup
I had the same issue with SMS Backup + when I upgraded to KK. The fix for me was getting access to APP OPS. Apparently access was hidden in some recent updates . I found an app in the store that gave me access again. Once there I found SMS backup and gave it permission to write, read, send etc.. Once I did that it backed up just fine.
Hope this helps
