[Q] recover apps on sd card after custom rom install - HTC Incredible S

Can I recover apps that were installed on sd card after installing a new rom? Or at the least can I clean up that memory since its not being used anymore?

I used titanium backup to backup my apps and restore them once ive installed my custom rom

yeah been using titanium, no hassel at all

Once you install the custom rom reinstall titanium backup, search for previous backup folder, then restore your apps. This only works if you used titanium to backup up everything before you installed the custom rom.

what's the point of "Move to CD card". I did this for a game I have thinking that I'd still have the app data after I flashed a new rom. But after I flashed a new rom, that app wasn't anywhere to be found.

The point is it frees up internal storage on the phone, therefore you can install more programs.
It was never intended to be a backup/recovery tool.

[Q] Will I be able to back up saved games before flashing a ROM or wiping my device?

Subject says it all. I'm looking at flashing Cognition but I'm hesitant if I will lose all saved games. I have titanium backup but have only used it to removed at&t bloatware. Can I use that to backup saves? And if so.. how?

I use titanium backup and it has always restored my Angry Birds' saved games... I was three star-ing everything so I wasn't about to flash and lose it all either HAHA. I say use TiBu and you should be fine, though there are anomalies and I am not responsible for any lost saved games haha
Is there a "how-to" for titanium backup?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
TiBu -> Menu -> Batch -> Backup all user apps
Flash ODIN
Flash new rom (you can click wipe data, it doesnt delete your sd card stuff, in fact, i recommend it)
Install TiBu (if your rom doesn't have it included)
TiBu -> Menu -> Batch -> Restore all apps with data
Click install, install, install. Done.
If you're really anal (which i was for a while), put in an external sd card and copy the titaniumbackup folder from your root folder to the external sd card and then take it out. lol
Ah sweet. So if I'm understanding those steps... the internal sd card is not treated like internal ROM storage that is wiped when you flash your phone?

No, but if you did, for instance, an Odin 3 one click back to stock, and clicked the master clear button, or if you do a factory reset, etc., that would wipe the internal SD card. So, if your ocd like me, connect to your pc and mount the SD card, and transfer everything on it to the PC hard disk. Then repeat that whenever you're going to flash. Just in case, you know.
Backup all user apps or backup all user apps + system data?

Do all backup stuff. You can later select what to restore. You can go in and just restore browser favorites if you want.

Titanium Backup

All my apps that were on the SD card had their links broken even though the SD card was still fine.
So I wiped my install and started resetting things. One of my first steps was to reinstall Titanium Backup but my app list doesn't rebuild. If I install an app from the market, TB then connects that app to the backup history. I can restore data or old backups thereafter.
Anyone know how I can get TB to build my app list without having to manually install from the market?
Yes, I own the pro version.

I've been using Titanium Backup pro for 3 months and haven't met such problem... do a disk error check for your SD card Fat32 partition in windows, see if it finds any problem.
Did you backup those apps using another version of Titanium Backup? I wonder if there was compatibility problem across older and newer Titanium Backup versions.

[Q] Backup question

I'm fairly new at this rooting thing, I initially rooted stock, and then went on to a custom rom someone on the board made. However, I'd like to play with other ones, but I don't want to have to reinstall my apps every time. Is there a recommended way to backup, and what exactly should I be backing up?
I've installed Titanium Backup and backed up most of my apps that way, is that the preferred method and all I really need to do?
Thanks!!

I had a bad experience with using the "Backup" and "Restore" options in Recovery completely destroying my Nook's boot partition, so I'd personally stick with Titanium Backup. I paid for it, and it was well worth it. This let's me install any ROM and with literally a single tap, all my apps are reinstalled.
Titanium Backup is just amazing. It's probably one of (if not THE) the most useful apps ever for anyone who frequents XDA. And free, if you don't mind tapping for each app. Just don't restore system files etc (ie the "red" colored apps).
Depending on which recovery you are using, you may have to use the accompanying kernel...

Q I installed Titanium Backup and it is driving me nuts, it creates the folder on my SD card, says it's complete, but the folder is empty. I tried just the apps, apps and system, but still the folder is empty. The notification note says complete with the time, but still an empty folder even after I deleted it before a new backup.
Auto-nooter 3
Uninstalled TB, and reinstalled it, works fine now. Must have been a flakey install.
I find appbrain the easiest solution to reinstall my apps. Then if necessary, use titanium to restore data.

Personally I run all my ROMs from a MicroSD card. This way I don't have to worry about screwing up my Nook and I can pop the Card into my PC and use "dd" to make Images and Flash them back. It makes switching ROMs quick and easy and if I decide I like the New ROM I can use Titanium Backup to mass Restore(Pro key needed) all my Apps. If I don't like the ROM or if something bad happens I can just "dd" a Backed Up Image to get my my Old Install back and it's like I never switched ROMs. Aaahhh.... Life is good.
PS: I keep Two cards, One for my Everyday ROM, and the Other for Testing.

Rom manager

I installed rom manager today. When I do a backup of my ROM with cwm, it says that it can't find ext. sd card.
And the backups list in rom manager is empty, even though backup was apparantly successful...
I also tried booting straight to cwm and backup. List is still empty.

Ignore the cannot find sd-ext, it doesn't mean external SD card, it means EXT partition on the SD card.
Which ROM are you using? If stock (or stock based), the backup will be in /sdcard/_ExternalSD/clockworkmod/backup, but ROM Manager will be looking for it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, hence not showing in the list.
You can get round that using an internal based ClockworkMod from the dev section, or just deal with it.

[Q] Retaining calendar dates, texts and apps post flashing

Hi Guys,
I have flashed my Note for the first time, I've gone for Rocket Rom V21.
all is working fine, however I had to do a wipe for the rom to work, so I'm missing all the text messages, app/settings, and calendar dates.
I do have a backup from yesterday done with CWM.
My question is, how can I apply or retain all of the above on my newly flashed rom?
Thanks
I think that the backup you made is localised to your ROM. So you may be unable to use the backed up data in the new ROM. Or you might have to modify/move somethings. Best of luck

Well I have restored my backup sucessfully just to check it, because people always reccomend having a backup of your working system if you are going to flash new roms.
The backup is functioning perfectly with all my texts and calendar dates in tact.
So I have an opportunity to back up these items, so what would you reccomend to do this?
Should I be using Titanium backup?
Titanium Backup will backup all Apps and Settings. I believe the newer versions of titanium Backup can extract backed up files from nandroid (CWM) backups.
if you wipe then it wipes the internal memory (dont confuse this with the 11gb storage space) you need to back up the messages with an app that will allow you to do this
if you have root then i use mybackup root if you dont have root then there are plenty of apps onthe market that will backup and restore your messages
I suggest you restore the previous ROM; install Titanium Backup and execute a backup of "all user apps + system data"; flash again your favorite ROM, then restore the apps + data you want.
