Screen flicker - Nook Color General

I'm wondering how many people have screen flicker mainly on dark screens. It is getting annoying on mine and i am probably going to go and exchange mine and hopefully they will let me open a few and inspect them before the exchange. I have to have the brightness at 0 in order to not have screen flicker noticeable all the time, but i can see the screen flickering even while typing this.

Take it back. I bought one and my wife went back to get her one. She went thru 3 before finding one that works. 2 had screen flicker, 1 had wi-fi connectivity issues and FC's. I have a feeling B&N is re-shrink wrapping returned units with hopes that some purchasers will just 'eat it and smile'.

Mine didn't seem to flicker before root, I guess I'll have to unroot and see if it does and then return it.
I've already returned one for a bad pixel...

A possible problem

Hello guys I never noticed it but for some time I noticed something strange on the screen of my galaxy S. Putting it in landscape in the upper left corner i see the notification bar as if it's printed on the screen. I don't post any screen because in these you can't see what you see on the screen phone and that's what worries me
Sorry for my english
Thanks

Well since the picture is already burned in to your screen, the only way to fix it is to change the display. If you haven't opened the phone etc. then you can just take it to a service centre. I'm quite sure that burn in is covered under the warranty, so you won't have to pay anything.
You could first try to take the battery out for a couple of hours and see if it helps.
If that doesn't work, you can try to somehow put a bright white on the whole screen on the phone and keep it about an hour.
If none of those solutions work, just take it to a service centre.

Well yes, you've had the problem once so you could have it again. But warranties are there to ensure that you have a product that functions as expected. If Samsung are willing replace the item at no charge under warranty then it's obvious this is not the expected behaviour. Based on that logic not only is it your right to get a replacement, Samsung aren't really expecting it to happen again, otherwise burn in would be expected behaviour and not covered under warranty. Anyway my point, although so far, poorly made, is that it's not expected to happen again. Well that and so few other people have the same problem, it's extremely unlikely that it will happen again.

Exactly. Burn in is probably quite rare, especially in LED and LCD screens. I was actually surprised when I read your post. Old CRT screens used to get burn in quite often if one screen was left on for a long time. But since SGS has an AMOLED screen, the chances of a burn in happening again any time soon is quite slim.
You can try one of them burn in repair videos that just keep flashing colours that they use to unstuck pixels on lcd screens. You can get the video from youtube or anyplace you can and set media player to loop for a few hours. It might fix burn in.

Actually that wouldn't work, since the screen is AMOLED. There isn't any crystals that get stuck in one position. In LCD screens the pixels are tiny crystals that move in a way that a color is reflected to the screen. Sometimes these crystals get stuck in one position and so they show one color constantly. AMOLED screens have tiny LEDs that provide the colors to the screen. These can't get stuck, but they do wear out or burn out which leads to the colors not being produced correctly, and for that reason it'll look like a picture is stuck on the screen. That's something you probably can't do anything about.
Ok i'll see what to do.
Thanks to all!

I just can't win, my 5th N7 has a whole new set of problems

So after 4 exchanges I was happy when I opened the box and found it didn't have screen lift, the speakers worked great, and it didn't flicker.
After using it for awhile I noticed new problems never experienced before...
1) It wouldn't shut down completely. You could power it down, but it wouldn't turn on unless you held the power button for over 10 seconds to force a restart or if you plugged in the charger the screen wouldn't come on showing it was charging. It seemed to happen most of the time, but sometimes it would shut down like it should.
2) The touchscreen would become laggy/unresponsive after awhile. This mainly happens while playing games such Nova 3, the screen becomes unresponsive and makes it impossible to play the game. Or it happens while browsing in Chrome, it takes a couple swipes to move around the screen or when you try to input something on the keyboard it will miss every other key press.
3) If I installed certain programs Wifi performance would die. For whatever reason when I installed Dropbox wifi performance on my N7 would suffer. Instead of getting steady downstream speeds it would be very slow and constantly pause during a download. I saw this anytime downloading an app in Google Play or it was impossible to watch anything on Youtube.
Tried doing a factory reset twice to track down the problem and it came back each time. Did a goog search and found many other people were dealing with the same problems so it isn't me.
The Google rep felt it was a hardware issue so they're sending me another N7... at this point I don't care if the next one has screen lift, if it doesn't have the above problems I am living with it.
The non responsive touch issue is a pain. Exchanging mine tomorrow. I canfix screen lift, but the lack of response, i cannot.

I have a new n7 with no problems at all no screen lift all I did was fit a screen protector on the front and buy a yobo high quality case for it loving it got from Currys uk.
I've actually just contacted Google about returning mine due to a screen issue, at first the screen was semi responsive, then stopped working completely, no longer can i control the device unless i fully remove the back, or have the lower left portion of the back lifted while I'm using it. I've contacted Google about an exchanged and am now waiting on a response.
The screen does not respond, if I go to the main screen and put the back on, it registers a constant touch on the lower left side.
I have tried developer options, hard/soft reset, factory reset, etc.
I am unsure about what to do other than what I have but it's clear that this is a hardware issue. I am no longer willing to use the N7 I have because it literally feels like it's falling apart as well, with the creaks and such.
Thanks to Walmart and Staples for allowing me to return a total of 5 N7's and finally landing a perfect one. They all hand the common problem like screen lift, unresponsive screen, screen flickering and cracking speaker.
My suggestion is to buy it add a brick and mortar store that has no questions asked return policies, like the ones mentioned. Trust me it at the end it'll all be well worth it.

Returning my 1st one screen lift and wifi issues. Bought from the play store in UK called up and right away they sent a replacement out just send in my old one after I get it. It was a C60 from Ireland so we will see if the next one is a newer batch.
Still on my first. Thank you sams club for getting all the good ones

I have one from Staples bought July 18th that is perfect, a little bit of screen flicker but it's once in a blue moon, haven't seen it do it in a while, it's a c60....my other N7 was bought at Wal-Mart August 4th, c60, nothing wrong at all. As far as I can tell from doing the bezel test it's perfectly flat, no lift on either one. I push down on the left side where people say the lift starts and it doesn't make any noises on either one. If I do have it it's pretty minor, as some people are saying we "all" have lift in some way. I'm just not seeing it...and I have a blurex case that doesn't cover the bezel at all, so I can see the edges at all times. There are some c60' s that are good out there. Heck, I've been reading on here people having major screen lift with the c80 batches.

Personally, I really don't think it really matters *where* you buy it... Chances are probably better that you'll get a "good" one with the later serial numbers, but as we've seen, even some of the newest serial numbers can have problems too...
Shame on Asus for such a lack of Quality Control, but it is a great little device if you get a good one though! Extremely fast and stable device...

I think my dogotizer is going bad...

A while ago I came across a YouTube video of a guy poopooing the Nexus 7 because while he liked the device he's had two have screens that suddenly went haywire. I fear my device is beginning to suffer the same fate.
Its a 32gb that I picked up from staples on day one of their release. Basically what happens is increasingly my swipes (long swipes... Not flicks) register as taps and sometimes don't pick up at all. Also from time to time the screen will behave randomly as if I'm seiping or tapping even when I'm not even holding the device. Normally turning the screen off will fix it but its gotten to the point that I'm now resetting the device a couple of times a day.
Basically I want to know what the best option is. Take it back to staples even though its been well beyond 30 days? Call Google support? Is there a known fix? Thanks folks.

Weird mark on my Nexus screen?

Hey guys I've had my Nexus since a few weeks before Christmas, not long after it developed a weird mark on the screen that would only show up when the screen had just been wiped with a screen wipe but also shows color discoloration if displaying white. I took it back to Carphone Warehouse where they have told me to keep checking for stock and they will replace it, but after a disgruntled call to CPW Customer Services a few weeks after constant checking for stock I found out they are no longer selling the tablet. Now I either have the choice to send it in for repair and if they can't do that then I can get a refund. It's not an annoying problem, I could live with it if I needed to. Anyone heard of anything similar happen to their 7?
I had a similar issue with my previous nexus 7. There were two marks going up the right half of the screen. With mine they were not visible if I gave it a good wipe, but as soon as a swiped my finger across the affected area, they became visible.
I got it replaced at pcworld. I would recommend sending yours in. Even if cpw don't have stock, Asus will be able to replace or repair it.

I also got 2 weird lines on my N7 screen. First I thought it were smudges from my finger but I can't remove it its only noticeable from a certain angle when my tablet displays a dark grey color though

Had it for less than a week and screen dead

Last night my phone got a text and when I took it out my pocket the screen would not turn on. It was just blank. The buttons next to the home button still light up and the LED light still flashes. Vibrate still works etc. I took the battery out and out it back in... nope the screen is buggered. It has no water damage and it hasn't been dropped etc.
Just thought I would post this in case anyone has any similar problems.
I'm so angry If I'm being honest... my phone store wouldn't even send it away for me... they asked me to phone customer services and pack it and send it away myself. I have exams etc so its something I refused to do. Thankfully another store helped me out but I have never been so angry at a combination of companies. I have already spend £100 up front for the phone. Now I have no phone and apparently there is none in stock so I'll have to wait until they are ready. Not even given a replacement.

I had a similar issue with my first S4. It randomly rebooted numerous times and I had it for a little under a day. I took it back the next day and swapped out my white S4 with a black one and all has been well thus far. My buddy also had an issue with his screen as well. He went to put a case on it and the screen flickered and died. He too had to get a replacement. Your situation is a little more drastic but it seems we aren't the only ones with screen issues.

It is ridiculous that the screens are faulty in the first place but if they could just give me a new one like yours I would have been as happy as larry. Did you lose all the apps etc you had downloaded? I bought ice age and everything =/
apparently my phone company only replaces new items within 7 days. If my screen broke tonight instead of last night I would not have been given a replacement and would have got a "re-furbished" one. ARRRHHHH I would have torn the place down if they had said that to me!
I've had got mine 4/29 and have had no issue except for that lag when to much crap is open in the background.

I had my phone for about 2 days and I noticed that the screen would flicker. Since it was my first Amoled I just figured it was something I would have to get used too. Well the flicker started to get worse and even made it difficult to read anything on the phone. So I took it into sprint and told them I wanted a new one, not some returned or beat up phone.
There was a problem with the screen after all and they did give me a new in box phone. Haven't had an issue since. With any new product it just seems you might get lucky.
