Waiting for Fully Charged NC - Nook Color General

Ok...got my Christmas NC! I was given permission to play cook it? The last thing I cooked was a Blue Angel....if anyone remembers those??? Then life really started and I fell away from things. I have gotten a new phone since then, using stock Evo. too afraid to play with it. But I reviewed the instructions for the NC and auto-nooter and think I can handle it...
I'm trying to jump back into things (thus slow and behind on current lingo) and am excited about turning my NC into a tablet! My stupid question for the day is BN instructions says I have to fully charge my NC before using. I'm not really planning on using it....just cooking it! Do I really have to fully charge it? It has about 67% charge now.
I did try and research this and came across two responses:
1. You have to fully charge or the battery will have issues
2. You don't have to fully charge but should fully discharge and then recharge soon after.
Thoughts?
TIA!!!
Edit: Hmm...have to update signature....apparently I did cook our 8125s....hmmmROM date is 2006....it has been a while!!!

Prey tell, what kinds of issues arise if you don't let it charge fully? I don't remember letting it get to 100% per se, but have noticed no huge issues...

To the OP its really just up to you, obviously it wouldnt be good if it died in the middle of update/Nooter but its rated at 8hrs so 50%+ probably wouldnt hurt.

The start up guide says to wait till 100% before playing with it.
The only thing i could think of is perhaps the battery wouldnt be able to hold a charge/not last in the long run?
Even saying it sounds stupid to me, probably just B&N covering there end, but eh ive got no experience in batterys, i just know i normally let new devices charge while playing with them the first go havnt noticed them having issues.

never done it, never had problems...
I remember reading somewhere that you SHOULD never flash anything with the battery life under 15%........Come to think of it im pretty sure it was a DEV over in the Shadow forum here at XDA.....may only be true for WinMo phones but since reading it I always make sure my phone is atleast at 20% before flashing.....

He wasn't asking for that reason but for calibration purposes. My phone is always near a charge (my laptop) so i've never really worried about it. It would be a good idea though if you spend lots of time away from the charger
Never heard it spelled out as "100%" specifically.. All I ever heard was to make sure the battery is well charged or you're on a charger, because power failure while flashing a new image could easily foul things up. Luckily on our G1s you aren't likely to brick (just recovery, flash again), but many other flash based devices can be bricked by an interrupted flash. It's just a good habit to have. You wouldnt start reinstalling Windows on a laptop with 30% battery and no outlet nearby, right? Same concept.

[Q] CM9 with Touchstone

Im planing on eventually getting a Touchstone for my Touchpad. I'm wondering, are there problems with charging the TouchPad on the Touchstone while running CM9? I would assume it just charges like normal since its a hardware feature. But does the software act up since it doesnt recognize HOW its being charged? I have read that people have had some issues like freezing up or the charger doesnt charge in CM9. What has been everyone's experience with it?
I used to have a lot of freezes and lock-ups when using the Touchstone -- primarily when taking the TP off of the TS. However, with any recent nightly it's been MUCH more trouble-free. I don't know that I've had another instance of this at least since we got official nightlies, and maybe even prior to that.
Right now, it's a little annoying that the Clock app always comes up when you start charging, but that's about it. I believe you can remove the Clock app to get around this, but I haven't tried yet. I don't know that I'd say it's worth what I paid for it, but it is pretty slick to just drop the TP onto the TS without fiddling with cables.

So you havent had any instances of leaving your TouchPad on the Touchstone and come back to find it drained of battery? Thats what I am mostly worried about since I have seen people post what happens to their TouchPad running CM9 and letting their battery die.
I've never had any issues using the touchstone to charge the TP when running CM7 or CM9. For me, it has always worked flawlessly.
I downloaded Dock Nothingness to prevent anything from coming up when you use the touchstone. Android interprets the touchstone as a dock charger so it can tell the difference between the two.
I also use dock nothingness.
I got a TouchStone before I put android on it. I have always left it on the TS to charge at least daily. I have yet to have a single issue with freezing or draining. I used it on webOS for a few weeks, very little on CM7, and CM9 since the very first alpha. Running alpha 2 now. Currently I have 311 hours of up time on the TP, I would guess 111 hours of that on the TS, based on what CPU spy is telling me. Nary a single issue here.
I don't know what (if at all) cases others are using. Because I got a TS I went with the HP official case. Had it almost as long as the TS, and leave it on the TP all the time. Pretty nice case IMO, soft touch, micro fiber cover cleans the screen, built in easel. IIRC, I read on some amazon reviews certain cases produced weird results on the TS.

Thanks for the replies. When I do get the Touchstone, I will probably look into putting llama or tasker on my TouchPad so when it gets to about 20 percent, my device will shut down. Like I said, thats the only real worry I have with it due to what I've been reading. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put it on there anyway.
I like how WebOS plays a sound to confirm that it's charging on the dock. Is there an easy way to do that in CM9? Other than that, I love it.
I did just load the nightly two days ago, and yesterday the battery was drained after sitting on the stone all day. It could just have been user error, though. I'll see tonight when I get home.
I have a Droid X2 and I know when it gets set on its dock it makes a sound. All devices are different though and I dont know if that option was built into CM9 or not.
BTW, no problem with the 4/16 nightly using the stone yesterday.
Just got a touchstone, can't wait to stop using that stupid cord
you guys think leaving it on the dock all the time will mess up the battery?
No.

I was leaving mine pluggen in the wall almost constantly. Since I do the same with my phone, I didnt see a problem with it. But I went home one day and had some problems getting it to turn on. It finally did and since then, I've just been shutting it off when I dont use it. I'm a little paranoid about it not coming back on. lol. But leaving devices plugged in dont usually hurt the battery. I think they are pretty much made for that now a days.

Charging topped out at 60%

Got another refurbished One yesterday. It's working fine, though I woke up this morning to see the battery is at 60 percent and not going any higher. It was on the charger for 7 hours. I looked at the battery history chart and literally hours ago it got up to 60 and flattened out, never going any higher or lower. Please tell me I have another bad refurb :-\
Try this. When your sure its as charged as its ginna get. Leave your phone on the charger. Use root explorer. Go to data/system, find batterystats.bin and delete it. Reboot your phone and wait till the green led comes on (or it reaches 100%) then unplug your phone. Not saying it will work but it sounds like your battery stats need to be cleared manually. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the idea. So far it has charged beyond 60%, but it's now topped out again at 62%. It was at 62 the whole way into work, and now here at work it's charging and still sitting on 62. The One charges slow, but certainly not this slow haha! This is the 3rd or 4th refurb I've had, I'm losing count. Bout time for my local Sprint store to bite the bullet and just give me a new one I think.

The only thing I can really think of is that your battery stats are still bugged out, because there's no reason this should be happening. Look around on the Play Store for a battery current widget, and when it hits 0mA (no charge coming into device), reboot into your recovery (since based on your response, it sounds like you're rooted-- please correct me if wrong!) and find the appropriate wipe battery stats option.
Take it back to Sprint.

I had the same issue with my first one. Out of the box it would not charge beyond 39%. I let it drain completely and charged again overnight and it only went to 42% and would not last more than a few hours. I took it back to Sprint and they swapped it out and the new one has been fine. They must have some bad batteries in their production.

I think CWM and TWRP removed the battery wipe option in their recoveries. I'm just going to take it to Sprint, I'm tired of fooling with these bad refurbs

Atrix HD has been getting HOT lately

I've had this phone for nearly a year (8 gb AT&T version). It is completely stock running Android 4.1. Lately, the phone has been getting extremely hot with even low to moderate use, to the point of having to even stop using it for about 15 to 20 minutes to let it cool down. and the battery seems to be draining a lot quicker than it ever used to be (5 to 6 hours).
When looking at the battery stats, it says that "Android OS" is eating up most of the battery, which seems atypical to me; usually its the screen that eats up most of the battery.
So is there anything I can do to fix this? I know rooting and installing a custom rom would probably help the battery life, but because the device is still under warranty I don't even want to take the chance with it, because my contract expires in October and I don't want anything to happen to my phone in between then.
Like I said, the device is still under warranty so is overheating/lower battery life a plausible reason to get a replaced phone? Also, would I have to go through Motorola to do this or through AT&T? Any insight is greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Battery is a reason and I'm sure it overheating is also so if you do in fact have a warrant and don't want to run a custom rom I'd bring it to att.

I agree with echofiive. I've noticed the overheat warning when ambient temperature is very hot.
I'm not sure your condition would warrant a replacement though

I live in New Jersey, so its typical summer weather but I don't think the weather is the cause, it just gets really hot from normal use. I'll give an example, I was sitting in a car a couple days ago (not the driving) and was bored so I decided to play some candy crush. I played for maybe 5-7 minutes until the phone got too hot to even touch. I never got any error messages or anything but I had to put the phone down because it was too hot. I also checked that the battery went down about 5-6 percentage points, just for playing a simple game for 5-7 minutes; candy crush is not a very demanding game like some 3D games are. the same thing happens when i'm just using the phone on facebook/twitter/browser etc. for around 10 straight minutes, I end up having to put the phone down. I was never having this problem before which is why I am concerned and my warranty expires in less than a month so I want to try to get a replacement before the times is up.

Yes I use the stock charger with the stock cable. I occasionally charge on my computer, but thats only once in a while. And even though I haven't gotten a overheat warning yet, I'm sure if I used it for just a little longer than I usually do I could probably get it (and burn my fingers in the process). Wouldn't that warrant a replacement? The phone obviously isnt supposed to get that hot that fast, and the battery isnt supposed to drain that fast as well.

Hmm, the problem seems to be battery related then. Some sort of short between terminals?
I guess you could take it down to the store and explain the situation. They'd probably have to open it up to have a look. I have a feeling that by swapping a new battery it might get fixed.
And as for battery usage, my Android OS is also consuming more battery than the screen so that really isnt a valid indicator. Im not sure exactly how hot your phone is getting because a warning message should pop up on your display.
Let your phone completely discharge till it switches off. Then recharge till it hits 100%
Try this cycle atleast twice and then use it and see how it works out

Yeah I'll definitely try to do a few power cycles. I may be able to get bette battery life that way. Not sure if it will help with the heat but its worth a try. And I will probably still go to AT&T just because I still have warranty so I might as well give it a shot.
Maybe its just too hot for my general comfort, maybe thats normal for a dual core phone, it just seems hotter than usual. I do have a case (that I usually dont use) that I can put on to maybe make the phone not feel as hot while I use it.

Should i charge my N9 when i get it??

Phone arrives in 3 hrs..
Should i charge up the phone streight away..or use it on the residual charge thats in the battery till it dies...yhen fully charge it up...

I've never been able to receive a new device and let it charge all the way up before using it. Today will be no different for me, I'm playing with my new Note 9 as soon as I take it out of the box. IMO, battery conditioning is not necessary. I've never worried about it, and I've never had problems with battery life.
Hello for battery calibration is recommanded to charge it at 5% to 100%
Just enjoy it. Mine came with 60 pc and charged at 15. Never done any ritual dance or calibration and never had a problem.
Got mine with 55% and used until it died. Like the others have said, I've never worried about when and how long I've charged a battery and never had issues.
There are tons of info on this online. General rule is you do not want to charge 100% nor run it down to 0%. This is bad for the battery. I just try to keep my phone away from 0 and 100. Usually at 40-70. Accubattery app is pretty helpful in this regard.

I agree. Except for the fact that science shows it's right. People are actually paid to do this research, unlike us posting on a message board with our opinions that make zero sense. Do with your phone as you like, obviously, but don't disregard the science out of hand. Most people don't care because they keep their phone for a year and dump it, if you want to preserve battery life and keep a phone for longer than a year it makes good sense to follow the science.

It really doesn't matter for todays batteries.
You should all watch this video for the truth about modern cell phone batteries.

I would say this:
After you are done setting up the phone, erased cache in recovery and ready to play with it, do this first to avoid calibration issues...
1. Use the phone and let the battery get drained to zero and shut down automatically.
2. See if it turns on (without charging) by pressing the power on key. Probably it won't but if it does , use and let it drain till it shuts down.
3. Now charge it fully without switching the phone on.
4. Turn it on , plug the charger and charge it again for the remaining charge to fill.
5. Use the phone and don't charge in between at all. Let the battery get drained to zero and shut down.
6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5.
7. Plug the charger, switch it on and charge till 100%. It's calibrated now, I believe.
....
After this, DO NOT repeat this 100 to Zero and Zero to 100% charging 'coz it'll shorten the battery health and if you plan to use the phone for say above one year, 2 yrs etc. Now on, Do not let it go below say.. 20 % and above, say 70,80 %. Keep charging in the middle whenever you feel like. It'll keep the battery healthy and will last longer.
Some people are so damn stubborn. The researchers... nevermind.
I didn't want to let my phone die because my friend's note 8 bricked because of it. I trickle charged it and managed to get it to start again after an hour. But then he left it on and it bricked again. So I didn't want to risk it. I had a portable charger so I let it juice up while I was playing with it lol
Just use the damn phone.
The other advice is to keep your phone cool when new as you're updating and transferring data etc batteries don't like heat.
Let it die, let it stay without electricity for 3-4 hours and charge it. Let it stay at %100 for 1 hour.
the legend says u should chatge it one u take it out of the box
don`t believe that.. i got my s7 edge and i didn`t charge it first time, i played with it until itvget 12% charge then i charged it to 100%
i didn`t get any problem with battery at all
