[Solved] Unbricking Australian Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've just inherited a bricked (black screen of death) galaxy s that was bought from 3 Australia (as far as I can tell its not sim locked cause they were using it with vodafone). It doesn't have the 3 combo to get into download mode but I've found the usb jig so that should hopefully help me get back into download mode. I am just wondering what the best firmware i should flash with odin once I get back into download mode.

Eclair 2.1 JM9, from there I would go with a 2.2.1 custom ROM in the dev section.

I can vouch for the above recomendation. it is exactly what i did to unbrick my sgs.

Do I get it from the forums or from samsung?
did a very quick google check but didnt find anything with download, so if you could point me in the right direction that would be great!

from samsung here

sorry not sure which f/w you are looking for jm9 is not there but jm8 is .. and that is a full f/w
also can try the new canadian jl2... it is supposed to be great at unbricking phones.

Jm8 has always been my fix firmware for some of my stupid attempts at customization always does the trick on unbranded virgin sgs Australia.

Thanks for you help guys, I found JM9 a little below JM8 so I'll give it a try first its also a full f/w.
While I have your attention! Does anyone recommend a custom rom? I am currently using cyanogenmod on my nex1 and will probably use it on sgs if there are no other recommendations.

any one help me. my phone after flash XXJPU, it die.
my phone don't received sdcard ( internal ) and i try flash some other Rom but still not work (

Just thought I'd let you know (and any other aussie who has this problem) that I managed to get it working using the usb jig and JM8 from the link above and the CSC from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847765 (sorry can't post urls yet), however I had to use the re-partition option in odin for it to work after reboot. I'm now happily setting it up after flashing darky's rom.
Thanks to everyone that helped.

[Q] Flash T-mobile SGH-T849

I picked up a T-mobile Tab when I was in US and I want to use it in Europe with all European functions. Can I flash it to become equal to an European sold model?
Do I need to get the SIM unlock done first?
After I have done this, can I use KIES to do normal upgrades?
Thanks!
Bump
Still interested if anyone have flashed a US-Tab to Euro and then got it to work with Kies (doing upgrades etc).
I'm aware of the differences in modems support, but that is not an issue for me.
follow the steps
I have bought a T-Mobile tab a week ago and i have changed the Firmware with the European version to enable the dialer and then unlocked the phone with the hex edit by rotohammer first post.
So here is what you need to do
1) flash a euro firmware (get the latest from samfirmware.com)
and follow the instructions carefully.
2) unlock the device using the hack provided on the post here

Samsung SHG T849
I am a newbie. If I am in the wrong forum please redirect me.
My problem is that while flashing my t-mobile Samsung G tab using odin3 the power in my house went out and I am now bricked.
I get a logo that shows a graphic of a phone 2 dots and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle, another 2 dots and a graphic of a PC.
When I try to get the download mode I cannot but I could get into a mode "Power reset or unknown upload mode" when I press both the 'up' and 'down' volume key at the same time as when I press the 'power on' key.
The logo would recycle every few seconds even if I try to power off.
I tried to let the battery run out and when I recharge the tab. the same thing repeats.
You need to re-flash using Odin!

I figured I would have to do that. Unfortunately my Sammy would not power down. It kept looping, off and on and when it was on, it gave me either the 'logo' or the 'power reset' message, both of which I described above. I even let the battery run down and upon recharge it immediately went into the loop I mentioned.
I tried to connect it to my PC but the PC would not recognize it at all. I checked to make sure I have the right drivers and I do.
I am hoping some one would know how to get the boot sequence working without having to physically open the pad.

If you can get back to that screen, which is download mode, you can reflash Roto-JME and get back to a working Tab.
Samsung SHG T849
I had to wait awhile to reply because the tab went dead - no power. I tried to recharge it but it did not hold enough power to let me complete the task.
I am recharging it for 24 hours hoping that it will hold enough charge to let me complete the task.
In the meantime I located several sites for Odin3 v 1.7 but I was unable to get the same pack as ayman019 had which probably came from you rotohammer. will it be possible to get the link so I will have the right software/firmware?
(I located P1000XXJHA.rar files but I am having difficulties unzipping it. Each time I try it asks for a password. or would not even allow me to unzip it at all)
hi just curious,
can i flashed samsung tab t849 to samsung tab p1000??? it will not brick my tab???
pls confirm before i flash the tab, thanks

Hi,
T849 from T-Mobile accidently flashed with wrong firmware and tab become totally dead. Repaired boot with Riff Box, so I can enter in to download mode now but couldn’t find Roto-JME or stock firmware. All download links are dead or deleted.
Would you share Roto-JME please?
Thank you in advance.
The link from rotohamer for tmobike stock is over. you have to update your tab to gingerbread 2.3

Horrible guide. Setup for failure and no support.
There is hardly any need for this old firmware. You can always run any European GB rom for P1000 as long as you keep T-Mobile modem you get 3g or use jpz modem and you get voice.
And with roto modem switcher you can even switch between voice and 3g.
The link in my signature is overcome links. It has gb jq1 rom and method to flash it.

I have an SGH-T849. Trying to unlock it. Cant find any positive guides for custom roms or anything. Everything is only on the p1000 so I am taking my chances and flashing p1000 firmware so I can fit in.
You will be alright.
I am holding in my hand a T849 now running AOKP SGT milestone 6.
The T849 is exactly like a P1000 except the modem hardware.
I don't know about network unlocking though.

I flashed my phone using the rom I was using weeks ago: XWJM5 (using 512.pit, SERJM1 CSC and XXJM3 modem) all the files are in the JM5 download(single folder) from samfirmware.com
I used adb to get into download, then I selected repartition whilst flashing. ( not sure it's worth noting there's a sbl.bin file in the phone package that gets written to the device)
once i had JM5 up and running i checked whether the 3 button combo was working - it wasn't.
i then followed post 1 to the letter.( no .pit, select bootloader etc) - it takes just a second to run.
Now I just have to decide which ROM i want to try next -JPH awaits !
Well Jimsey, guess what.......... JOB DONE!!!!!
Did exactly what you said - except i added 1 step, (don't know if essential but i've heard reports that it saves some people needing to do a wipe/reset in recovery mode) :- i did a factory reset just prior to flashing of JM5. Other than that tho, i followed everything you did above TO THE LETTER!
Mind you, it wasn't good for my health i swear. It rebooted after flashing JM5, and a load of yellow writing came up saying all the little files it was initialising etc etc blah blah, and then... in RED writing it came up with - CANNOT ACCESS MULTI LOADER FROM TMU, or something like that.
Well, i felt the blood drain from my face. Then it booted up, damn that was scary!
You're right about the combo fix as well, when i flashed that it is as you say a dodgy two seconds, then a few more seconds on a black screen, i swear my heart didn't beat during that time!
Anyway there you go guys, i've just (narrowly avoiding a coronary) flashed my stock T-Mobile UK from BOJG3 to an unbranded, smooth as silk XWJM5, and on top of that flashed the standalone bootloader from post #1. And it works. I have the handset in front of me and it's all lit up on the home screen!
A big thankyou to Jimsey, for being the first pair of feet to jump!
Also to Richthofen for his bootloader fix, and his superb support in all this.
Well, don't know where next, JPC/JPH i suppose, but not yet, i need a drink to recover from this bit first!!

[Q] i screwed up and need help!!!!!

so heres what i did, i got a stock captivate, used odin to flash rom to galaxy i 9000 and its really buggy. i wish to flash back to stock rom and update to froyo then unlock it so i can use it on t-mobile. when i say really buggy i mean i cant get anything but G network maybe E if im in the middle of portland or salem, but always have full receptoin. now can anyone help me fix this so i can use it with t-mobile? if not then i would like to flash it to another rom but, it wont go into download mode since i dont have a home button to use. should i get a jig and do all that other stuff ive got to do or is there another way? can anyone point me into the right directoin. either post they know of or from experience. i would greatly appreciate it ive spent a few days searching and havent found much info thats helped.
Oh wow... First of all, flashing a i9000 ROM is really NOT GOOD. i9000 ROMs are for the i9000 phones, not the i897 (Captivate). As far as unlocking goes, I hope you haven't screwed up your IMEI (and such) data on your phone somehow while flashing different ROMs onto your phone. Unlocking can be done on both 2.1 and 2.2, but you will need the unlocking codes from AT&T themselves (easiest way).
For the download mode, if you can't get into the download mode via ADB... I would definitely try a USB Jig. Try the alternate key combos to try and get into download mode as well.
Owch. This is what happens when you don't read before you do things.
Hopefully you can get yourself into Download Mode so you can flash via Odin back to the stock ROM.
you do realize that by unlocking it and putting it on TMobile you will not get ANY 3g?

well i was fallowing advice from an idiot and a few other idiots who backed the info and was happy with what it had done with their phone. little did i know till a little bit ago is that it was for germany not usa. ok so i need to do some research on adb. now since i want to use this phone for t-mobile and do get into download mode should i flash to captivate stock then update to froyo then unlock or just flash to vibrant? im not going to be using this phone for calls or internet browsing unless on wifi and using skype. its only going to be used for texting and games and video and pics and all the other wonderful options this phone has. t-mobile has a pre paid texting only plan thats only $15 a month. and everywhere i go has free wifi, if not ive got my own way of getting wifi if ive got my laptop for ad-hoc with braodband card.
do i need to change anything with the phone if i just plan on using t-mobile???? cause it is considered a global phone or whatever and not locked cause it shows i have t-mobile or att or sprint network to choose from as before the flash it only showed att. or should i just fix this one and flash it all back to stock and sell it to buy a new used phone lol
thank you for your help and advice/ its greatly appreciated
just flash back to stock 2.1...unlock it and u can flash any awesome rom.most save your imei and nvdata...i was on darky 8,1 and used t mobile, even used all carriers in india
to get to dl mode use adb or jig....never flash i9000 roms directly, if u want, u can flash i9000 based custom roms we have in dev section..

i think its better that you first go to stock rom xwjs3 with the boot loaders.
you can download them from sam firmware,
and then check in kies the csc must be normal again, if so you can flash the rom you want..
i had the same problem and i think it is because with xxjvk you get the new boot loaders, and you must go back to the old one for you're rom

A flash wont fix a cracked camera lens .
Kies cannot deal with a rom that does not match the correct product codes and hardware ID of the original device network data .
If you require Singtel firmware you need to source it from somebody that backed it up as you i take it did not back up your firmware .
Alternative is to try the Kies registry spoofing methods posted on xda or the app from the market .
http://www.appbrain.com/app/spooffw/com.johnan.spooffw

If any of the firmwares overwrote your product code (not the salescode in the CSC!) then the only solution I know about is to put a factory firmware which has lower version than the latest available through kies (that to make sure kies can be connected and the fw updated) and as a second step you have to manually edit the nv_data.bin file in the efs folder(make a backup before you do this!) with a HEX editor. Find the wrong product code the jist replace the letters, write it back to the efs folder and reboot. You should be fine.
And don't forget to flash a carrier specific CSC via Odin!

[Q] Can not register on network problem

Since a few days it is impossible to use my Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000 as a phone. Whenever i try using it, it doesnt register on the network.
I am running DarkyROM JVH v10.1 baseband version I9000XXJVO Firmware 2.3.3
If i try to register on the network is searches and searches and searches... but doesnt find anything.
What "worries" me is the fact that when i start up the phoe is tells me its a Samsung Galaxy S II, which it surely isnt!
Please advice.

There is your problem..
Re-flash stock firmware with pit and re-partition, When complete, check you can register on the network.
If so then avoid the ROM which you are currently running.
EDIT: When you say the phone says Galaxy S II, Is this not a boot animation taken from the SGS II ? Or is it the actual boot screen which says its a SGS II ?
Call me stupid ;-) but i didnt save my stock-rom....

No problem.
Head over to www.samfirmware.com and grab one from there, flash it through odin, Instructions are on that site too.
Thanks AzzleDazzle, but now comes up another problem.... Probably very basic, but for me, its all abracadabra.
I have an European Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000, but if i look at the site there are many roms u can download. From Android 2.1 to Android 2.3.4 for "my" device. Which is the one i should use? My ID is I9000XWJVH, which is according to the site an unknown H version.
Please advice once more, thanks in advance!
No worries, Make sure you download a firmware specifically for the I9000
the last 3 letters eg JVH is the firmware version, JV.X. represents gingerbread 2.3.3 and above.
Gingerbread is the latest release, so i would go for one of them, The one at the bottom of the page on samfirmware will be the very latest, Which i think is JVR
So look for I9000XXJVR.
flash that in ODIN and job done you should be back up and running and with the latest release.
The rest is upto you . i.e going to a custom ROM / rooting ect...
i feel more and more like a noob....
I started Odin, and there u can choose for the pit file, or for the pda file (which is the one i should use i guess), but also u have the choices of re-partition auto reboot and f. reset time. Which of those 3 (or non at all) i should use?
I dont know what has happened. I choose for only reboot after flashing. Flashing went okay, but now it seems to be stuck in a loop. The Galaxy S screen gets followed up by a Swisscom screen in a seemingly endless loop.
Worse, with volume down - power on i can not come in the download menu anymore...
Any advice would be much appreciated now.....
Also when trying a re-partitioning via Odin it doesnt work?
Found the solution. Using Odin 1.8 did the trick. I used Odin 1.3 which probably couldnt flash the 2.3.4, while when i tried with Odin 1.8 it worked flawlesly.
Thanks for your help!
