After a failed attempt at installing Gingerbread onto my Bell version of the Galaxy S (i9000m) I was forced to flash my phone back to the standard 2.1 Eclair firmware.
I apparently chose the wrong firmware as the 3-button combo to get into recovery/download mode doesn't work anymore, and when I plug my phone into Kies it says 'this device's version cannot be updated' so I can't just get the fix through Kies.
I've tried flashing a newer version of the firmware onto the phone but I can't get it to work. Not only that, but since I can't go into recovery mode I can't root the phone anymore. I've tried a couple 'one click' programs for rooting but neither of them worked.
Does anyone know how I can fix this and get things working right again?
use adb!
Have U tried
adb reboot recovry yet?
U can download it from android web site (but I can't remember the detail)

So as the title says i am stuck in recovery mode, Heres the story.
Got a new Samsing Galaxy S Rooted it installed lagfix all went with out a hitch. Started to install patch to allow me to connect to adhoc networks before hand I backed up my system folder using adb pull. I copied the files for the crack to get adhoc working. My wireless on my phone stops working, I restore the back up I made using adb push and restarted the phone now it boots into recovery mode everytime.
The PC still connects to my phone and I can still use adb. Now how can I undo my stupidity or atleast fix my phone?
Cheers guys

that's a good sign at least
see if you can get into the Download Mode with the 3 button
then Flash it with Odin back to a stock ROM
Ok i am not sure what you are refering to by download mode what 3 button combo do i use to get into it? I was just looking at the Odin software and it sounds like it might do the job but where can could i get a stock ROM? My phone is running Android 2.1 would it hurt to try installing the leaked copy of 2.2 using Odin?
wiki my friend wiki

You flashed using Odin one click? And it said successful?
no just using regular odin v1.0 with the actual rom from samfirmware
and yes it was successful

Click to collapse
Try the one click then.
Used odin and the phone looks a little better. But samsung kies says "unregistered device".
At&t firmware update failed also
I see there are a lot of problems when flashing i9000 roms on the captivate
I need help also I have flashed I9000 on may captivate and every thing goes fine after that I have tried to install root to fix orientation problem and used GalaxyS_One-Click_Root_All_Models but it got into recovery mode and the volume up and down works and change the selection while power button can't select any Item and Every time I restart the device it goes into recovery mode .!!!!!!
Can any one help going out from recovery mode ???!!!!!
I was having the same problem I think mine had something to do with the usb port either it was physically damaged or something else was going on I finally got it as close to stock as I could turned the phone off and took it to att rep so it would only boot into download mode, he scratched his head then handed me a new one.
I originally had problems getting rooted, and posted here and got some wonderful help. Now, I'm having problems again... I flashed Cognition a couple weeks ago, and then two days ago I did Odin to stock and a Master Clear, used Kies to update to JH7, and flashed Phoenix 1.0. Then tonight I wanted to get Phoenix 1.5, so I did Odin to Stock again and a Master Clear, but when I tried to use Kies it says I have an "Unregistered device". I tried to do Odin again just in case I had done something wrong, but I am no longer able to enter download mode by holding the volume keys and plugging in the USB. I cannot enter recovery mode either. So now I'm stuck on Stock instead of updating to Phoenix. Big difference there. Any suggestions? I saw a couple threads on the unregistered device issue, but none of it made sense to me so you'll have to explain things in noob terms. Thank you!
edit: Was able to use ADB to boot into recovery and flash the original phoenix rom again, with directions from another thread dealing a similar problem. I'll just stick with that for now (or forever with my luck in flashing roms).
I have been able to previously flash custom roms such as Cognition V.2 and Cappy's GingerBread ROM, but just recently i tried to flash Cognition V.3 on my Captivate and im unable to even enter recovery mode to flash the new ROM. Ive tried all ways to get my phone in recovery mode including the power button and volume button idea. And when i do try to flash to recovery mode, the ATT world phone screen comes up and it seems to freeze on that screen until i remove the battery.
How can i get out of this problem? Any questions, just ask because im not the best at describing things like this.
If you backed up everything use odin to flash to stock and proceed from there.
I probably should have told you that i only have a mac...im stuck arent I?
Any way you can use boot camp to boot up windows?
I ran into a similar problem some time back when trying to install an upgraded rom. For whatever reason, I had to reinstall Rom Manager to get the clockwork recovery to work. Dunno if you use anything like this, but just a thought.
Additionally, if you get rom manager you can reboot into recovery through it, as opposed to using the traditional method.
its strange because even from rom manager when i press the button to send my phone into recovery, it still goes to the att screen and freezes..
Google heimdall sgs. Program to flash stock on mac. Not as easy as odin
So ive just tried to install heimdall on my mac and it says it cannot run because my mac is not updated...i ran an update scan and there are no new updates and im also running the most up to date OS for mac. What do i do??
You are going to have to ask that question on the heimdall thread
Hello,
I bought a used Galaxy S GT-I9000, firmware 2.1-update1, baseband I9000DTJG3, Kernel 2.6.29 [email protected] #2, build ECLAIR.DTJG4
I thought, no problems, I will upgrade it, however, I haven't been able to do it so far.
First, I downloaded the latest Kies, installed the drivers, but then it told me that Kies 2 doesn't support I9000. I deinstalled it and downloaded Kies 1.5 but then it wouldn't let me upgrade (this device's version cannot be updated error). So, official update is a no go.
Second, I tried to access the download mode with volume up, home, power, but to no avail, neither with volume down, home, power, or volume up and down, power. So I found the way to reboot into download with adb instruction.
Now, when the phone is in download mode, I connected it and installed the driver from Heimdall. I tried flashing CWM through it, but it cannot connect.
I also tried flashing rom with Odin, but it recognizes the phone when it's turned on, however, once it's reboot into download, PC sees the device, but Odin doesn't recognize it, so I cannot update the software from here.
I hope that the above is detailed enough for someone to figure out what is wrong with the phone, and how can I update it at least to GB, but I prefer CM10.
Now it's really buggy, Facebook sometimes works, sometimes not, applications lag, and I know that Galaxy S is a good phone, otherwise I would've bought something else.
I have managed to root the phone via ADB, and I also installed ROM Toolbox. However, it shows no recoveries available and I don't dare try flashing ROM before I have access to a recovery, as my phone boots to recovery only via adb command, no 3button combination works.
I cannot find CWM Rom manager to install on my phone and flash recovery as I9000 is not supported.
Thank you greatly for your support.
