Mobiwol is firewall application that use the VPN interface for firewalling (without actually connect you to any VPN server)

I advise not to use Mobiwol, since this application itself is a security risk. 3G watchdog reports approx 50MB per day WiFi traffic used by Mobiwol.

From the mobiwol website:
Why does Mobiwol top the data usage chart?
It’s an illusion. Mobiwol uses your device’s VPN package to create a firewall. As every data packet sent or received by your apps passes through the VPN, all the incoming and outgoing data traffic gets attributed to Mobiwol.
The good part, however, is that Mobiwol now comes with its own Data Usage feature which allows you to check data usage for each app. To view the usage, choose Data Usage from the home screen.

no it doesn't. here is the reply from author:
Hi,
No, sorry it doesn't. Have a look at busybox if you have a rooted phone, maybe it offers some network related commands.
Cheers

I never said it would show the connections.
It will only show the total upload and download usage on 3g/edge/gprs (does not count wifi)
Three was a misunderstanding then.
I love TrafficStats and it graphs and everything.
hi you can bandwidth monitor you can try use protemac. com ProteMac Meter. It;s really nice prog)
How about AppTraffic Free? Shows each app data usage.
Apptraffic works great for me. Samsung Galaxy Note N7000.
I wish there was an ad-free version, however. The app itself uses a little data when it loads. Not much, but when you are watching every one of those bytes...
Onova, works and is free and is adfree

Android already shows the amount of data used per app. Go to settings, data. There is a whole list.

My data manager is pretty good and free!!
I like to use Network monitor mini as well to see the actual throughput i'm getting. Not broken down by individual app but still useful.
I have the same problem but I think I may have a bad app.
Is there no way to see which App is connected to which IP adresses atm? Or any chance to get info via Terminal emulator?
They informed me at work that my device is blocking about 30% of the net-usage so I wondered myself. And something always connects to internet on 3G too...
Hey!
I'm getting crazy here...
I do not have an internet flatrate on my phone, everything is prepaid, i.e. every time I access the internet via mobile data I lose money !
My provider lets me access facebook for free -> I sometimes use it on the go.
Eventhough its free I lose money through "Android OS" downloading stuff...
I'm using Droidwall and only allowed Dolphin to use mobile data. Android OS still has access somehow...
Does anybody know how to stop Android OS from using data? I don't have any syncs on. Even when using the option "restrict background data" i lose money though Android OS. My Data Manager also just tells me "dolphin" and "OS services"...
Hope you can help!

Thanks for trying to help but you cannot imagine how often i do a factory reset. This does NOT fix the problem of Android OS.
Have you enabled - back up my settings, etc. to my google account ?
In most ICS Rom are widget buttons where you can find "Toggle sync". Disable synchronization by this widget doesn't help?

I disabled the sync toggle from the power management widget...
Its driving me crazy! :/
Hmm, if you switched off general synchronization and it doesn't help, maybe try switch off synchronize in every application, e.g, weather, google play etc.
It's a bit strange, but maybe it'll help
Don't know if that would help, since i use Droidwall to block all internet accesses on mobile data exept Dolphin. AndroidOS still has access but i cannot figure out why...
Which processes are AndroidOS? Is there any Spy App that could tell me this?
Hmmm.... use a DroidWall from Google Play, if your phone is rooted.
After install, you can precisely set which app would you like to grant net access, and it is possible to allow access over wifi only.
Another what you can try is PermissionsDenied. Here you can set the net access via each app permission.
Now Im saying it thrice. I am using Droidwall!

I guess it's not much solace, but I'm experiencing the same. I know a bit about Android/Linux/etc., so I took a look at the firewall rules. Theoretically it is possible that some packets are leaking through the rules of DroidWall (or the firewall rules of "avast! Mobile Security" ... but they are mostly the same as DroidWall's rules). Later I'll test this by adding a custom rule that logs everything that gets past DroidWall's rules and see if any traffic shows up that should be caught by DroidWall. I'll report back my results here.
Ok, I got to the bottom of this. In my case I was seeing very small amounts of data usage and it was attributed to the "Android OS" app/component in the "Settings / Data usage / Mobile" screen. As it turned out, the small traffic was caused by regular DNS requests (since I had "avast! Mobile Security" installed which always allows outgoing DNS requests ... regardless of your firewall settings).
I wrote a pretty thorough post on my experiences in my blog: muzso.hu/node/4943
P.S.: I do not have yet 10 posts on xda-developers so I was not allowed to insert a proper link to my blog post (but I guess a copy&paste is not too much to ask for if you're interested in the details)
A few weeks ago i finaly got myself to install a firewall (noroot firewall), and it is amazing just how much other apps are sending your information and getting stuff from the internet... ES file explorer alone is trying to use internet every few seconds non-stop, so i just unblocked my computers ip address to browse pc files via wifi and blocked everything else, and android itself is creating a blocked access list with the size of chat with 100k users... Using firewall is also an easy way to block all the ads in offline apps. Are you guys ok with all the apps using so much internet ? Do you also use firewall to block all the unnecessary internet access from all the apps ?
Also, what kind of android stuff can be changed by app updates of by letting apps to access the internet ? Like when operators are trying to block note 7 and limit the battery capacity, is that done via app update or does it require full android update ?
Good day!
As stated on the title, how can I remove ads in my Huawei P10 without rooting my phone? I know Adawy or Adguard can do the trick if you're rooted, but how if I'm not?
Is there a way we can do this via ADB shell command? I don't want to use DNS66 or any VPN that will eat my battery or RAM usage. I hope someone can answer this query. And I hope this is possible.
Thanks!
Hi.
As far as I know, there is no way to prevent ads from your phone without root.
Greets
I'm using blokada. It's just like dns66 and the others.
It's just open source, heavily developed and does not eat all my battery or resources.
blokada.org
I prefer Adguard on non-rooted devices. It's basically internal firewall and the reason it shows any battery usage is because its heading all the data through this firewall - but it's not really consuming much of the power. As a matter of fact it usually prolongs battery life if properly set up. Works like a charm with EMUI 5.1 tiles.
The pro version could cost just about 12$ for lifetime if purchased made in RUB. Strongly recommend to try a free trial.
Thanks for your feedback guys. I will consider your suggestions.

Thanks for this suggestion but this only works when you are connected to WiFi since you can modify your WiFi settings. But, how about if you're using your mobile data connection? I can't see any option where I can add Adguard DNS servers in mobile data settings. Any recommendations without using a third party app like DNS changer?
The only way to block ads without root is via a VPN - but most of those, including the ones mentioned above mean you have to rely on a 3rd party having access to all your traffic.
I'm using NetGuard and this uses the local VPN on the phone without an external server (unless you want to include one) - its by the same dev who wrote the amazing Xposed module called Xprivacy:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-netguard-root-firewall-t3233012
I think there is another way doing this. Is there anyway to mount /etc/ on computer, probably using adb?
If that is available as option, could generate hosts file using adaway no rooted device and copy manually file.
Could that be possible on locked device?

Hey, guys. New P30 Pro owner here. I'm having a bit of an issue with VPN ad blockers. I usually use Blockada, but that's now working. I'm getting ads in Chrome. Here are my findings:
Blockada - ads randomly slipping through on various websites and in some apps.
DNS66 - Not working at all, for some reason.
Block This! - Works well, but seems to slow down page loading.
Adguard Premium - I haven't tried this yet. Last time I used it on my S10 Plus, it had a disasterous impact on my battery, though it usually blocks ads reliably.
I already made battery exceptions for all of these and enabled the host files, etc. They just aren't all working as expected.
What are other people using on their P30s and what are your findings?
Thanks.
I'm using dns.adguard.com in the phones private DNS settings and it seems to be doing a good job of blocking ads. I am not currently using a VPN and this has had zero impact on battery usage.

It seems to be blocking ads system wide, not noticed any in the week I've been using it.
Okay, 2 things:
I figured out why Blockada wasn't working in Chrome. I had to disable the Async DNS flag in flags. I should have remembered that.
Second, the adguard DNS only works on WiFi, so that's not an option.

This is how I did it: Settings > Wireless & Networks > Private DNS > Configure Private DNS > Type: dns.adguard.com
It works perfectly on wifi and mobile data. The only time I've had to turn it off is when I was trying to connect to free wifi in a pub.

This is how I have it set up as well. Does seem to help but you still get some ads
I've been getting good results from Windscribe VPN as well - it has ad blocking/tracker blocking built in and speeds have been decent.
