[Q] Gtab app for reading ms exchange and updating excel - G Tablet Themes and Apps

I there an app/way for me to access a work exchange email account and update excel spreadsheets on the run without having to pull out and bootup the laptop?
I am a total newb. I saw an app for working with word /excel/PowerPoint but it did not mention Ms outlook and the gtab was not yet listed in the release notes.
Would pay the 14.99 in a heart beat if I'm sure it will work.

dataviz documents to go.. works on the G Tab and is easily worth the 15.00, i will say this it does take a bit to navigate it sometimes, but i dont know about outlook ( my company uses an exchange server w web based mail)

If you run the Vegan Tab Rom the standard email client will access exchange just fine. Documents to go works fine for editing spreadsheets.

I am using a remote desktop protocol program very successfully for accessing my work desktop

What remote desktop protocol program are you using? I've been looking for a solution that would allow me to access my work desktop. The company I wok for uses Citrix' Secure Desktop.

Novell GroupWise wireless sync

I was looking for an app to do wireless syncing with my works groupwise server (their mobile server actually, which will communicate to the actual groupwise server). I found an app from omni:
http://www.omni-ts.com/mobile-groupwise/
But it has been discontinued after it was bought out. Has anyone done this? I know about the PDA connect software from novell, but I'd like to do it wirelessly over my data connection. Any ideas?
Good luck with that. We have Groupwise, and it was a pain to do.
We use software from Intellisync that does a good job though. I would check with your IT peeps and see if they suggest a software.
Novell has what they call "GroupWise Mobile Sync Server". Its essentially Nokia intellisync re-labled to work with GroupWise. Its a server which pushes a client to the PDA, then allows you to do wireless push. You have to set it up on either a dedicated server or your own machine. You have to have valid support contract with novell to get the license key. Also, it only works with GroupWise 7 and you have to have SOAP enabled on your post offices.
It took me a while to get it all working, but it works once its up and running. The push client integrates with the pocket outlook on the phone (meaning you can't have active sync at the same time), but it works pretty well.
Hope this help, drop me a pm if you'd like more details.
I'm very interested in any solutions you might have come up with on this. We use GW7 at my company, and I'd love to get my Tilt to sync with it wirelessly. Unfortunately, the corporate solution for this is Blackberry, and I don't rank high enough on the ladder to get a license on the BES server, so blackberry connect seems to be out.
I've tried the latest intellisync from their website, and successfully configured it to sync with my tilt through activesync. I enabled the 'push sync' feature, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work, as it doesn't seem to have anything to keep the phone connected to the desktop app. The push sync says it's successful whenever the phone is connected thru activesync, but as soon as I disconnect the phone from the usb cable, push sync begins to fail every time it runs.
I've seen some pointers that cingular xpress mail supports (or once supported) groupwise, but it doesn't seem to offer that as an option when configuring the current version.
I can install outlook and use it as a client for groupwise, but that still doesn't do anything for the push sync aspect.
Suggestions?
Yes, you can do over the air push sync of everything (mail/calendar/contacts/etc), I have gotten it to work. The product is part of GroupWise support, so if you have a service contact with Novell, you can download the install and the product key. You need a dedicated sync box(I used Windows 2003 server box), which has a SOAP connection (a protocol which need to be enabled on each post office within the GroupWise system) to the main system. The configuration on the Window server is pretty straightforward, once you configure it and point it at the main GroupWise system - you should be able to push a client install to your phone via SMS. Here are some things to check:
- All post offices which should use MobileSync have SOAP protocol enabled (on unique ports)
- Firewall ports are forwarded/opened properly. You'll find these if you search the Novell Knowledgebase. I can pull my list if necessary.
- You have an SMTP server to relay for sending out SMS install links.
I'll try to help with more specific questions. Hope this helps.
Ahh, sounds like more than I was looking for. I was hoping for just a desktop redirector type app. Sounds like this is more of a company wide solution, rather than just something for one person.
I did get GW PDA connect working to sync with the tilt, so at least I don't have to pay for intellisync. (Especially now that it's a dead product now). I'm just not getting push sync, but I can live with that.

Any way to "push" sync contacts/calendar without exchange?

Is there any way to get push sync for contacts and calendar without an exchange server?
The windows live push email works great but it would be awesome if it also worked with contacts and calendar.
Hmm not really, I mean theres:
Yahoo Go! 2.0 (Sync Address book, it can auto detect changes in your entire contacts list and sync them, very useful)
Seven: Syncs contacts of who ever, this may do what you expect. Haven't tested it.
Goosync: Syncs Phone's calendar & Gmail calendar
The only thing I know of that will do it besides ExServer...

Some IMAP account support IMAP-IDLE.
That's some kind of push mail. After connecting and authenticating, you'll stay connected to your IMAP server. (Using a very small amount of data)
When there's new mail, it will be downloaded to your device.
Of course, that's not a solution for your contacts.
google SyncML
zimbra
You can use Zimbra (reputedly-'open-source' software, bought not long ago by Yahoo!) .
It holds documents, files, notes, spreadsheets, mail, calenders, rss feeds, contacts, tasks.... and more; as well as syncing with mobile device, outlook, thunderbird (using an extension), mobile devices, macs, etc...
You can sync with a mobile device using IMAP or using 'push' via activesync.
Syncing with a mobile device currently only works with mail, contacts, and the main calender.
Funambol is one that use (also open source), it can be a bit of a heavyweight setup though, just depends on what of thing your looking for really, Funambol can be used on all types of devices and be setup for a "Multiple devices to One useer" sort of thing, so you can keep your Mobile Phone, WM device, Outlook etc etc al containing the same info.

now you can sync contacts, calendars, task and email over-the-air to your phone.
easy as abc .... by the way, the most impt thing is that it is FREE push email plus PIM management...
push using emoze
Emoze is a free program that will push both contacts and calendar. The only negative is that you must leave your home computer on as that is what pushes if you do not use exchange server.
There are many ways as you see. Some are server based, which is the way t go in my opinion, or you can you desktop forwarding thru many diifert companies. Intellisync makes a decent product & there is also Blackberry. I believe Meinyysis has written some great reviews & blogs about this very issue.

Its the best thing i came accross when i was looking for the answer to the same question, "Sync without exchange", its awesome IMHO as my friends and family use the server as well. Need to nuke your WM device whilst out and about but dont have your PIM backed up? Not a problem with Funambol, just tell the device to recover the data from the server, and there you go, Calendar, Contacts, notes.... etc etc....
That thing is a valuable peice of software that i wouldnt do without, only downside is that you have to have a PC running 24/7 to make the most out of it.

In my opinion this is not possible since you only have one activesync client.
Would be nice though....
ok heres is the situation, i have 2 exchange accounts, and i can access one via IMAP but then i dont have same sync up as an exchange
can one of the gods write a program for this
Gods any ideas - im sure nothing is out of your capabilities

just found the above link, havent tried it yet
made the registry change but cant see any ability to add any further excange accounts!
someone - anyone - GODS do you have an answer to this?
I have tried and tested this solution however havent had the required results!!! I have an exchange server (my own) and my laptop (work) and I am trying to synch so that I have all my calendar appointments on my phone and my own exchange server! When I synch with my work laptop I get all my own calendar onto the laptop but not on the phone!!! any ideas on how to work around this issue????
Basically I want to synch 2 calendars!! Surely there must be an easier way!!!
As far i know its not possible. it works like outlook. Outlook support (until now) only 1 Exchange account (if u use RPC-HTTP you can switch profiles). And on a PDA there is only one client available. And other technical issue is security, like blackberry, there is a remote wipe function (wipe your PDA if your PDA get stolen). And this not possible if you have 2 exchange accounts (in case of 2 different domains example 2 different companies). Policies on the PDA will be forced by the exchange to make this possible.
So to give you a conclusion, until now its not possible. However if somebody find a hack, it could be possible. But microsoft doesnt support it (yet)

cheers sand bunny thought I maybe attempting the impossible!!
Bearing in mind I have two exchange calendars - is there a workaround that may enable me to get my work calendar in my kaiser? Is there an app that allows you to send the calendar file to my phone in a single file format and then enable me to load into the kaiser calendar? Alternatively is there a calendar sharing facility or publish claendars that may enable me to use both calendars in my kaiser??
anybody got any experience of using the following app:-
http://www.odysseyinc.com/subpages/Software/On-Schedule/PocketPC.htm#multiple
seems to state it can do what I am after - have installed it and trying to get the thing to work though it appears pretty complex!!!

Do you use GPRS or UMTS 2 sync your PDA? Or do you use the computer?
I use UMTS2 - I tried that On Schedule software and it doenst appear to do what I need it to! I have tried the registry change and then synched with the desktop pc as well as the exchange server and that doesnt work!!!
Even sent a .ics of my work calendar for the next week and that didnt work!
Surely it shouldnt be this difficult!!!
i do this. here is what i do.....
I have an exchange server that i use active sync with. this server is at company 1.
i have XpressMail running at company 2 that connects to an exchange server.
I have 2 calendars and 2 email accounts that are always in sync. I also have 2 address books. pretty neat.
at company 2, my desktop PC is always on.
Id runner that is exactly what I want to achieve - how do you do that? is it something that XpressMail has built in as I cant get anything to achieve this with Outlook 2007, exchange 2007 and active sync!
XpressMail is a free feature on all AT&T / Cingular smartphones.
if you do not have AT&T then you cannot use it.
http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/solutions/email-messaging/xpress-mail-personal-howto.jsp
I also use Facade. since Facade has an xpressmail plugin, i get both calanders and inboxes on my home screen.
rules me out then! back to the drawing board!
has anyone used pocket mirror? http://www.chapura.com/downloads_trials.php
Perhaps this warning is unnecessary for most users here but be careful where you install XpressMail because your employer might have a policy against it.

I have it.
One exchange server is my company serveur (used by activesync on my laptop)
The second one (maybe it's the trick) is one OTA (mail2web.com)
Working like a charme.
I am synchronizing with my laptop which has Outlook account on a server, my home (stand alone outlook) and mail2web.
rom I have two exchnage servers one mail2web personal and one work exchabge server! I want to synch over the air for my personal exchange account however would be happy to synch via laptop for the work exchange! this is where the problem starts! does your solution resolve that? I only really want the calendar to synch but just cannot find a solution which intergrates with two calendars!
jdsx I would be happy to synch over the pc for my work calendar as I could do this at the end of the day! do you think chapura will cater for this?

1) Its not for Linux
2) Its paid, and i know there are solutions available which are opensource/free
ScheduleWorld
I use ScheduleWorld. It's free, and there are plugins for Lightning and WM. Google scheduleworld and sign up for a free account. Install the SyncSW plugin in Thunderbird. Install the Funambol and the compression *.cab in WM. It syncs Calendar and Address Book with no issues for me.
Hope that helps,

Just to add to eras2r's comment, as i was also going to suggest using the funambol tools as well, is that you don't have to use scheduleworld and put your data online. You can just run the funambol server locally, and use it as a focal point to sync TB and your device to.
As for a direct sync between TB and your PDA without the funambol server, i don't think there is anything else available yet for open-source/linux OSes.

Apologies to the OP - the result of skim-reading....

my only requirement is to sync the calender items in thunderbird (using lightning) to my kaiser in a linux environment....if there is no option for thunderbird, i can also try sunbird for my calendering stuff

Scheduleworld is a service on the internet. You install SyncSW in thunderbird and configure it for your ScheduleWorld account. You then install Funambol + compression cabs on your kaiser and configure it for your ScheduleWorld account. Both thunderbird and kaiser sync to ScheduleWorld over the internet, not to each other directly. It's not a local sync. (Or you can run your own Funambol Server if you'd like). Hope that helps.

Alternatively dump TBird for Evolution and install "Synce" on your linux installation.
It allows you to sync contacts and calendar info using any PIM based software to your Win CE device.
PS: Google is surprisingly helpful with this....
Info for FinchSync, opensource and you should be able to get it to work with Synce on Linux

I am running on Windows 7 and DESPISE microsoft outlook, is there a workaround? Scheduleworld is a fail, and I just wish this thing wasn't so old by I love Windows Mobile. Please help!

[Q] mail client activesync/traveler?

ok so search isn't working for me atm..
has anyone had issues with exchange activesync with the native mail client?
more specifically, i've been trying to setup Lotus Traveler manually by using [mycompanyhost].com/servlet/traveler
but it's not working.
on the other hand setup was a breeze on my Nexus 7 with seemingly (only looks-wise i'm sure) the exact same native mail client using the same settings.
if not the native mail client, then...I don't see any free alternatives on the playstore.
p.s. there's no way i'm using the official traveler client lol
thanks

I've got the Traveler ported on my phone. I don't understand exactly what's your problem. You couldn't install the Traveler or configure it? And what is the role of the activesync in this story? Maybe I could help you if you're more specific.

hi piskr
well i'm trying to avoid the Traveler client actually since it hits the battery life pretty hard
instead i'm looking to use the native Email client on the Razr i to setup a Traveler account by way of exchange/activesync
this is done by using the manual method of setting up Traveler where you enter your username and password and server yourself rather than say letting the Traveler client do it for you
but this method fails with the Email client every time saying it couldn't connect to the server
i just think this this is not normal behaviour since it works perfectly fine on a lot of my other devices e,g, most recently, my Nexus 7, where I attempted the exact same setup only minutes after the moto failing.
so I'm just wondering if anyone's run into this or know a workaround even.
K-9 mail only does webdav
and it seems most other activesync-capable mail clients on the store are paid apps
things ive tried:
clearing Email's data and cache
adding the account via Settings instead of Email's wizard (same thing really)
making sure Data sync is on when I do all this
Traveler manual setup:
Server field: [companyhost].com/servlet/traveler (dependent on your server settings)

Hi,
I must say that I've never succeded to establish LN client as a normal email client though I tried with my previous phones (Defy, Defy+). But I constantly use the Traveler client for email and calendar. I never have such experience regarding battery drain. On the contrary: comparing my battery use with others published here I'm far above average. I don't use bloatware, heavy wallpapers and don't play games though. But I use a lot of productive software (3 navigation systems, voip, 2 mails, cameras, tv client...)

then i take it you don't use push, but instead sync periodically?
My experience with the native android email client isn't good as well. It eats a lot of my battery.
To be honest: For connecting a company client I would suggest to take a look at the app TouchDown.
It is not cheap but from my experience it's the best client I ever used and it could replace Lotus Traveler as you can read here: alternative Lotus Traveler clientandroid/

No, I use the mail as a push. I even receive mail on phone before it arrives to computer client. Mails are truncated though and I expand only those I want. Calendar synchronizes every 10 minutes. But look please at my consuption. In the time it was measured I read 2 mails. I advise you to give the Traveler a try again. Then monitor the consumption and find out whether is the Traveler really the one which drains the battery or is it something else?

Hi,
I'm an IBM Domino administrator.
I'm using the native email client with my traveler server but results are not the same depending of devices.
I'm using a Nexus 4 (Stock rom, non rooted) and it's working well :
For login I'm using the Lotus ShortName
Password= internet password
server= myserver.mycompany.com/servlet/traveler
Port 443
SSL Options : Accept all certificates
If it still not working for you, please tell me the Traveler server version ( Im using latest one : 9.0.1 If3 )
The problem with native email client is if your server require validation for your device, then admin profile cannot be installed before your admin has validated your device.
