I was looking for an app to do wireless syncing with my works groupwise server (their mobile server actually, which will communicate to the actual groupwise server). I found an app from omni:
http://www.omni-ts.com/mobile-groupwise/
But it has been discontinued after it was bought out. Has anyone done this? I know about the PDA connect software from novell, but I'd like to do it wirelessly over my data connection. Any ideas?
Good luck with that. We have Groupwise, and it was a pain to do.
We use software from Intellisync that does a good job though. I would check with your IT peeps and see if they suggest a software.
Novell has what they call "GroupWise Mobile Sync Server". Its essentially Nokia intellisync re-labled to work with GroupWise. Its a server which pushes a client to the PDA, then allows you to do wireless push. You have to set it up on either a dedicated server or your own machine. You have to have valid support contract with novell to get the license key. Also, it only works with GroupWise 7 and you have to have SOAP enabled on your post offices.
It took me a while to get it all working, but it works once its up and running. The push client integrates with the pocket outlook on the phone (meaning you can't have active sync at the same time), but it works pretty well.
Hope this help, drop me a pm if you'd like more details.
I'm very interested in any solutions you might have come up with on this. We use GW7 at my company, and I'd love to get my Tilt to sync with it wirelessly. Unfortunately, the corporate solution for this is Blackberry, and I don't rank high enough on the ladder to get a license on the BES server, so blackberry connect seems to be out.
I've tried the latest intellisync from their website, and successfully configured it to sync with my tilt through activesync. I enabled the 'push sync' feature, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work, as it doesn't seem to have anything to keep the phone connected to the desktop app. The push sync says it's successful whenever the phone is connected thru activesync, but as soon as I disconnect the phone from the usb cable, push sync begins to fail every time it runs.
I've seen some pointers that cingular xpress mail supports (or once supported) groupwise, but it doesn't seem to offer that as an option when configuring the current version.
I can install outlook and use it as a client for groupwise, but that still doesn't do anything for the push sync aspect.
Suggestions?
Yes, you can do over the air push sync of everything (mail/calendar/contacts/etc), I have gotten it to work. The product is part of GroupWise support, so if you have a service contact with Novell, you can download the install and the product key. You need a dedicated sync box(I used Windows 2003 server box), which has a SOAP connection (a protocol which need to be enabled on each post office within the GroupWise system) to the main system. The configuration on the Window server is pretty straightforward, once you configure it and point it at the main GroupWise system - you should be able to push a client install to your phone via SMS. Here are some things to check:
- All post offices which should use MobileSync have SOAP protocol enabled (on unique ports)
- Firewall ports are forwarded/opened properly. You'll find these if you search the Novell Knowledgebase. I can pull my list if necessary.
- You have an SMTP server to relay for sending out SMS install links.
I'll try to help with more specific questions. Hope this helps.
Ahh, sounds like more than I was looking for. I was hoping for just a desktop redirector type app. Sounds like this is more of a company wide solution, rather than just something for one person.
I did get GW PDA connect working to sync with the tilt, so at least I don't have to pay for intellisync. (Especially now that it's a dead product now). I'm just not getting push sync, but I can live with that.

hi guys,
I would like to use my kaiser with outlook web access which my company has. Does anyone know of a good interface software which can provide me with this feature?
If you have OWA that means you have Exchange server, so why not just set up Exchange ActiveSync?
try http(s)://exchangeserver/oma/ in IE
As a poster above said, it's much nicer just to use ActiveSync and get it to sync automatically with Exchange - if you have OWA configured on your network, 9 times out of 10 it will work right off the bat - just open up Activesync on your device and select Menu -> Configure Server... and follow the prompts. It's pretty good and is much quicker than running OWA in your Pocket Internet Explorer...
Edit: I forgot to mention that your Exchange administrator will have to configure this on their Exchange server - if they have Exchange SP2, it's quite easy and requires no more config on the firewall than has already been done for OWA. Don't know what kind of organistation you work in, but it's worth a question to your IT department.

Hi,
Something I have already done but they all sends us to the exchange server ...
The issue is that niothing changed on the exchange server and I was able to sync wth my S710 .... why no with the TYTN2?
Hi there,
I get the same problem on my Tilt only not all the time. Usually my phone works fine, but then about once a day I go into active sync and notice that I have this error and I have to soft reset my phone and sync again. Then it goes away for about another 24hrs. before I have it again and have to soft reset.
I posted a topic about this and have tried googling it also to no avail.
If anyone has figured it out I'd appreciate it.
It sounds like you don't have permission to sync with that phone.
Try going to the your oma (outlook mobile access) site with a computer, then your phones browser. I'm not exactly sure the url of your outlook mobile access, but it should be something similar to this:
Webmail URL = https://companyurl.com/exchange
OMA URL = https://companyurl.com/oma
If you can access the basic oma mail, you should be able to access exchange to sync so check your settings. If you get an access denied error, contact your nearest IT person.
Dave
I fixed it by opening up Outlook 2003 on my PC, going to Help and then running "Detect and Repair". Has worked flawlessly sense then. *knocks on wood*
more info
what did you do to fix the issue in outlook 2003. Is that on you pc at work or at home? My issue is the same, except that my pc at work is connected to the network it does not access the exchange server over the web. I have been beating my head against a wall since I got the phone, and I can't get it to sync over the air. And was your phone hooked to the pc when you did this?. Thanks
Hey guys,
I ran across this great product i'm testing right now that seems to be working flawlessly, it's called Kerio MailServer. I setup all our windows mobile devices in the house (5) and all sync flawlessly. The neat thing is you dont need to run server OS, it installed on my spare XP box. Very cool.
Just thought i'd share for anyone looking for a cheap direct-push email solution.
http://www.kerio.com/kms_home.html
Not bad and its not that expensive either if you already have the hardware and constant internet connection.
How easy was it to set up? Did you use your own domain or is it pulling email from other sources first?

Well I have a linksys router with the DD-WRT firmware that updates my dyndns.org address, thats how the mobiles get into the system, and Kerio just polls all my pop3 mailboxes and dumps them into the corrosponding local user account.
It was really easy to setup, unlike my small business server exchange. I think it took me a grand total of an hour to install and set everything up, that includes installing the Outlook connector and importing all my .pst files into the user accounts.
Works like exchange, but installs on XP. Its lightweight, and easy to setup...
I think when my SBS finally goes out (if my home tests all work out) im just going to install this on a server 2000 box and be done with exchange. Finally
My employer hosts a webmail enabled Microsoft Exchange mail server. I am able/allowed to conntect to this server using https://webmail.myemployer.com from all web browsers and from all locations I have ever tried (I travel a lot), except ofcourse from my X1. Neither Pocket Internet Explorer nor Opera works; same result (Error Code 500: Internal Server Error).
I have retrieved the certificate from the mailserver, copied it to the X1, installed it and restarted the phone. Same result (doesn't work, same error code).
Is the access to webmail enabled Microsoft Exchange servers restricted on the X1? Can Exchange block access from cellphones? Is anyone reading this able to access Exchange webmail via SSL?
My ultimate goal is ofcourse to get the mail/calendar/tasks/contacts setup via ActiveSync but realize that I probably need to get this part with the webmail to work first. Colleagues of mine have successfully set it up on their iPhones, but ever since my first encounter with McIntosh back in 1984 ("an error of type -1 has occurred - Abort - Retry") I just can't stand that crap. I have no idea, but I doubt iPhones use ActiveSync.
if you know your Exchange webmail address, a WM phone can automatically configure Exchange. Open ActiveSync and on the right softkey menu, click "Configure Server" and type in your webmail address, username, pw etc and it'll automatically set up your server for push sync. If it works on an iPhone it is definitely enabled.
Close, but no cigar. The ActiveSync setup doesn't work and returns 0x85010004 "Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator." I have verified the right settings at least five times. It doesn't work.
Activesync needs to be configured separately on the exchange server to work wirelessly.
Have you tried to put /owa/ at the end of the URL in your browser?
Yes. No luck. When I enter the URL above in the address field of a browser and press enter it eventually (in the successful case) changes into something like https://webmail.myemployer.com/exchweb/... but this is not the case when trying to access same URL from the X1 (then it simply stops with the 500 error code).
Is anyone reading this able to access MS Exchange webmail over SSL with the X1?
This is strange. Have you tried your account on an iPhone? There might be a problem that is isolated to your account only.
Edit: If you are using Exchange 2003 this might be a server problem. Refer to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379
Yes, I Have
I access my company email account via MS exchange webmail on my X1. We dont use a 3rd party website, just type in the IP address of our server followed by "/exchange", dialogue box pops up for username and password and im in. Nothing had to be set up on the phone but, IE does not work ...has to be Opera and Im currently using the version that came with the phone.
I also had the same issue of Outlook Mobile Access disabled at Exchange, but Outlook Web Access enabled. Try Seven"Out Of Office" OWA connector or eMoze, both of them worked for me. Seven enabled GAL/Directory lookup as well...
Thanks. I tried adding /exchange without luck but was able to atleast get to the login page with the following URL (which I copied from my laptop after successful login): https://webmail.myemployer.com/CookieAuth.dll?GetLogon?curl=Z2F&reason=0&formdir=2. I can enter my user name and password and even click on "Login" before I get the 500 Internal Server Error message.
Strange...
I've also looked at Seven and emoze. Didn't even know they existed. Thanks for the tip! Seven seems operator dependant and as my operator charges €10 per month for it, it kinda fell out of the picture. Emoze can successfully fetch my e-mail through the OWA (webmail.myemployer.com + usr + pwd) and it works like a charm.
Almost...
Emoze has some pretty severe issues with its calendar synchronization in that it handles repeat calendar entries incorrectly. Emoze will keep adding duplicates of these in an eternal loop (about one duplicate per minute). I had to use a tool called Allcleanup to wipe all calendar entries. So a warning there. Also, emoze will add some corny "this mail sent by emoze" on all outgoing e-mails and this seems to be unavoidable, even in the pro version. Plus emoze handles character sets incorrectly (Scandinavian/German characters like ÅåÄäÖö are not translated correct). But if you "just" want to be up to date with your inbox, emoze works fine I guess. I now use GoogleSync and ActiveSync with Gmail and Calendar, emoze for work mail and contacts.
Morning,
I've looked high and low to find a resolution to this on the stock rom.
If someone is able to provide a work around without mentioning 3rd party apps like touchdown I would be very grateful. At work we run Exchange 2010 and there are a number of users with android based phones who are now left high and dry. Some are desires, some are nexus ones however I believe I am the only one running 2.2
I am open to putting a rom etc however would need concrete evidence that this is a genuine option and not a 'might work' scenario.
The IT team are also open to suggestions that would allow android phones to sync up without sacrificing corporate security.
How about using ActiveSync (the push mail)? I'm using Exchange 2007 with AS and this works fine, and I see no reason why it should not work with the 2010 version.
To setup go to Settings > Accounts & sync > Add account > Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync > Enter email address & password > Correct userID (DOMAIN\username) if necessary & modify AS url (is on the next screen) (also tick the use any certificate option) > done!
This has always worked fine for me on my N1 (even on Eclair). Keep in mind though that users will need 3G and/or WiFi on your network.
When using WiFi on your corporate network, make sure that the url you entered for the AS server has an appropriate A-record in your DNS-server pointing to the correct internal IP address.
For 3G, make sure you AS server is available on the public internet .
In my situation I'm using 1 URL as2007.mycompany.com which points to different IPs depending on what network I'm on (e.g. on the corporate wifi, it points to a 10.x.x.x address, but on my WiFi at home it points to the public IP on the internet)
hi grunthy,
I have definitely tried the activesync route and played with server ip's, webmail url, domain, username aliases etc and the errors are always 'unable to open connection to server' or failed to authenticate
Hi,
Of course a lot depends on your Exchange AS configuration. Myself I'm pretty sure the implementation on Android works, but you might have to import the certificate after all, as your Exchange AS server might not like the fact that Android 'ignores' the certificate.
The best thing you can do is check with your IT department what the exact requirements for AS access are. Maybe your account needs to be activated for it? They should also be able to provide you with the certificate if needed .
Good luck!
success!
we've got android and non WM users connecting via a different server url, basically (from what IT have told me) it's connecting directly to the exchange box which removes the need for some security protocals. Sub folders, calender sync, contact sync all works.
I don't know if I should better start a new thread, but I also have problems with our new Exchange 2010 and it fits into this conversation:
I get the same error-messages tyroneee describes.
Before we changed to Exchange 2010 we had 2003 and I didn't have any problems at all with syncing my phone. But now it no longer works.
I tried the way Gunthy` describes to add a new account, but these options don't exist in my menu!
Settings > Accounts & sync > Add account > NO Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
I only have "Twitter", "Facebook", "GMail" and "Work" in this list.
When I select work (which is closest to what I want), I get told to enter Mail-Address and Password, on the next step the server address and domain and then it again fails to connect.
Is there anywhere a hidden tick which I have to activate on Froyo to enable active sync?

Did you remove Email.apk? If so, that's what is causing it. Helped a user in #cyanogenmod who had the same problem and had done that.

Nope, I didn't remove it. It really only happens when I want to connect to an Exchange 2010 server.

If the menu option isn't even available, how can it differ between 2010 and earlier?

I don't know, it just does.
Other AS and Exchange servers are running without a problem, IMAP and POP too. Just Exchange 2010 is making errors.
Edit:
The IT noticed, that really something with my exchange mailbox isn't good anymore and they are now fixing it. So it should work in a few days ^^;
Froyo Exchange 2010 Fix
I am the Exchange administrator for the company I work for, and 3 days ago installed Exchange 2010. And Poof... no more Froyo Android devices work with the new system.
And so far, the ONLY fix I've found is to run this command against the server:
Remove-ActiveSyncMailboxPolicy -id Default
Provided default is the only ActiveSync policy, this leaves the system with NO policy, and then they all work..
Seeing as how I use a DROID with Froyo, I was able to figure it out. BUT, good luck getting your exchange administrator to leave this, seeing as how I have to find a better solution lest I end up using touchdown myself.

if you only need Mails use Outlook Web Access
if you need you contacts/cal, sync your Outlook with Google and then sync with your N1
