It's not just you; it's one of the features that isn't here now. Remember this ROM was designed for an eReader (the great thing is, with all the development, it's easy to forget). There are a couple apps in the market that try to replicate copy/paste using OCR, they might be worth trying until we get a custom ROM.

We need a custom rom like yesterday!!

"jaydon34 We need a custom ronn like yesterday!! Sent from my book color using XDA App"
The above was copied and pasted from your post on my NookColor. It turned rom into ronn, but that can easily be corrected.
I got the Copy Paste It app from the market (on mine, I had to check the setting to rotate screen clockwise or it would rotate it). It keeps an option to open it in the notification bar. Click on it when you need it and copy the text you want (it processes it as an image and uses OCR text recognition). There's a trial version of the app.
Now there's no way to paste natively, so you're going to need to be using a keyboard with a paste function. I'm using SlideIT, which has an option to paste on the special characters layout. Press paste and it's there!
Obviously this is clunkier than Android copy/ paste, but it's a working solution while we're on the stock NookColor ROM.

Just started using it not bad at all. I just wish it was a cross between this and thumb keyboard. This one feels just a little small in split keyboard mode

The process took less then 2 minutes from registering to downloading - have it now and about to install.
Looks ok.
I think Thumb Keyboard has a lot more functionality (directional keys, readily accessible punctuations, @ symbol, parentheses, .com key with extras [.net, .org, .etc) when longpressed and all other 'tabbed' symbols just require a longpress, too.
Just MHO.
Here are some screen shots just not a big fan of the full screen text input. Would also like split me keyboard in portrait.

Yeah, they definitely need to make the keys a little bigger.

Hated it, went back to stock. Takes way too much realestate in portrait, my main viewing format.

haha me too... why would you need this keyboard if you are using it in portrait? wouldn't stock work well enough? just wondering.... but the whole full screen force thing is bad, thumb keyboard does it too by default, but you can override it.

patience grasshopper. they are really fast about it, shouldn't be more than a few minutes. respect developers' wishes. if they wanted it out here they would have posted it here.
Trying it out now, so far I love the look of the app and it has been working great.

It needs some work still, I was on a closed beta (which I think I can admit), and of course, now use the open beta available on the forum.
But despite the issues with sizing and the alternate keys for symbols and stuff, the predictive text is still like the number one need when typing on a tablet, and it is so much more useful than stock. I don't use split mode atm, because of the key sizes, but I'm hoping I'll like that once they get it worked out.

The common theme seems to be the small buttons are an issue. Hopefully they will make th necessary adjustments.
I'm sure they will, it was among the first comments in the closed beta. I'm using standard layout for now.
Also, nobody can deny... SwiftKey's style on the Xoom is freaking awesome.

Remove 'recent apps' in notification menu?

Anyone know how to remove the "recent apps" section in the notification menu?
I dont use/want it and its just a big waste of space.
Running GingerX gingerbread sense rom =D.
Thanks ~MM20
Go into /system/customize (using root explorer or something similar) and scroll down untill you find notification_config.txt,
tap it, then menu then open it in a text editor and just delete where it says recent apps, then hit menu - save and close. Then reboot the phone and you're sorted.

you cant remove them. unless you install an external task killer.. which is not recommended.
Let me assure you that its not a waste of space, the apps are dormant after a while anyway...
Re-boot will get rid of all of them.
You can get rid of them if you're rooted.
You have to find the notification.config, txt of whatever rom you're using, and edit it. It's normally in the /data folder. Try searching for it.
That will sort it out

Columnar File Manager 0.1.2 Released 3/27/11

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bauxite.columnar&feature=search_result
UPDATED 3/27/11
Mostly just bug fixes, and file operations should no longer block the ui.
0.1.2 - fixed a rotation bug I introduced
It's my first app ever, so be gentle
Post any bugs found here and I can fix them, any comments are welcome too!
It doesn't support modifying root files, but it will eventually.
Thanks!
Cool! I'm downloading right now to check it out. Thanks!
Definitely a good start. Very clean and intuitive. One bug I found is after going a few folders deep in the sdcard, then using the back button to get back to / pressing the sdcard folder again doesn't do anything.
If a press another folder and then press sdcard it works.
I can give you logs too if you'd like.
Also, there is a typo with rename in the tool box. It shows "renam-e"

It's got that, open the Tool Box and drag the Rename icon to whatever you want to rename... it's a tad buggy, it may not show it being renamed right away until you reopen the folder.
Has anyone here had issues opening the app after first installing it? I got a one star review (probably the first of many) that said someone had issue with it.

It is planned, however I want to ensure the file operations are rock solid before enabling it. The last thing I want is something to go horribly wrong on someone's system folder.

Problem I'm having is with the Market download. I'm unable to download the app to install it. I can download other apps yes.
Installed it today, installed just fine. Seems to work ok, good start and thanks for posting. I like the look, fits in well with honeycomb UI.
Very nice! Just installed and it works fine.

Will be trying this today. Very excited.
ASTRO betrayed me, the week I paid for it, it became abandoned (though three Android versions and eight months later, Metago still claims its not abandoned and updates are coming)
Bauxite:
First off, a very nice first iteration!
Now, the things that "appear" to be missing which are keeping me with a copy of ES File Manager - feel free to tell me if they are in here and I just didn't find them:
1) Zip File Extraction into a folder named the same as the file (except for the .Zip of course)
2) Rar File Extraction into a folder named the same as the file (except for the .Rar of course)
3) Ability to see my shared drives on my home LAN and copy files back and forth
4) Integrated Image Viewer
Anyone familiar with scanlated Manga will understand where this list comes from
Looking forward to new updates

Read Out of Text Messages

So I had my bionic in my car mount and received a text message. The phone then preceded to read it to me.
I haven't seen this anywhere but is there a way to gain this functionality when walking around?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Settings text to speech and accessibility should help and handcent sms allows only text message readout on the press of a button if memory serves
I kind of wish I could disable this feature.
It kind of got me in trouble one day

I can imagine....
I went through the settings and there isn't anything there to configure when its available.
The Casio G-Zone Commando has a "read out" app that will read any unread messages when you press the app icon. I have looked for the app but can't find it. If I'm able to find a Commando ROM ans extract the apk, do you thing it would work? Hmm, I guess I know my evening.
I have never liked things like handsent or third party apps that do what I already have a core app to do. It just seems like bloat
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I agree but they work well as a temp fix until you find the solution
I think this would be a pretty cool thing if I could get it to work.
It didn't take me long to find a commando system dump, but a couple of hours later I am no closer to finding the apk.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help. On the commando there is an app called "read out" and it has the same icon as the text messaging app. If you touch the icon it will read your unread messages to you.
I figure (total guess) that it is interfacing with the picotts.apk like the bionic does in car mode. The bionic has the picotts.apk already, so I want to try installing the read out thing to see of it works.
Does anyone know what the read out apk is named? Or if this would work?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Give me a link to what you are working with and I will take a look, but I am no dev so no promises
Also this seems to work well https://market.android.com/details?id=de.exesmobile.messagereader

I saw there were a couple of apps, what I liked about this was it's almost more of a widget. Nothing opens you touch it and it reads. The down side to an app is if I have to open an app to use it I might at well read the message myself.
I appreciate the help. I know I probably sound like an idiot
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
So I was able to check out a Commando and the "read out" is a 1x1 widget, not an app. The commando is the only phone I have seen this on.
Is there a chance that the pico apk is different on the commando and has that widget? If so can I install that version and have it work?
I like the widget because I don't want every message read out. I don't see the point in a seperate messaging app, because I could just open and read the message. But the widget I could find useful if I'm on Bluetooth or busy with something and don't want to stop and read. Just tap the screen and continue doing what I'm doing!

Sucks. Any devs got some free time, and want to work on something a little unique?
So you think that's it, its a different Pico apk?

Check out VLingo in the Market. It has a setting that will read your SMS messages for you. There is even a handy widget to turn it on and off.
I like Car Dock Home v3 for full customizing and use Tasker for everything. It would be trivial to create a task that says to read an incoming text out loud based on docking status or location or time or whatever, and even automatically respond.

How to hide files?

So in short I have a couple of revealing pics of my girlfriend and a movie of her stripping, LOL... On my old phone I was able to make a folder, place a file in there called .no media and it would hide everything...
The .nomedia works for the pictures now but the one video still appears. How can I hide this as well?

Rename the extension of the video to something that isn't a video. e.g. .mpg to .bak
use root explorer to open when you want to watch -> open with certain app.
Yea no problem, I'll go ahead and send them right to you... Will the movie still work if I rename it to a .back file?

Apps use extensions to identify what files they should open, they do not mean that they can only open those files. So yes, just rename, open it with, and then pick your favorite video app.
I would like to know also. on the g3, i was able to lock the pictures/videos with a password. Im sure there are many apps that can do this, but which is the best?
Such a hassle. Renaming it didn't work I'm not sure why. I just deleted it. I see my girlfriend without clothes on enough anyways
